Used (gio,GT-S56600) for assert. so if you got assert error while intall zip package you must change assert script on updater-script into:

reboot to recovery mode

I was tested this cwm recovery with 8x format my sd-ext
and after format it, i try to use S2E. and S2E working perfectly.
i hope sd-ext corrupt can fixed with this version of cwm recovery

LE: just flashed signed_cwm-5.0.2.7-flashablezip-ext4only.zip. worked ok. ext4 is still there. it didn't get formated. but can tell you anything about the buggs cuz it was allready working for me

on rfs+ext4 version i made sd-ext filesystem on ext2.
it cant read ext4.

maybe better call it rfs+ext2 then...otherwise deceiving?

I installed cwm 5.0.2.7ext4only, formatted the card from pc in ext4 but if I format sd-ext from recovery it's ext3, it is normal?

Hey everyone. This is my first post. However, that's not why I'm here.
I'm trying to flash MIUI rom to my phone, but when I wipe data/factory reset, my phone displays:
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcb1k0p2
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure!
Skipping format...
Data wipe complete.
I don't know how to convert my phone to ext4..When I try to install zip from sdcard and press choose zip from sdcard, it says:
E:Can't mount /sdcard
Please help soon, I cant find how to convert my phone to ext4. Thanks in advance.

--Now using Odin to go to stock.
Then going to re-root.
Afterwards going to make sure that the ext4rfs.zip is in my sd card, then go into first boot of cwm.

You can Odin in this EB13 prerooted with CWM 3.0.0.6 which upon first boot converts to EXT4 then you can flash your EXT4 compatible ROM afterwoods and also Odin in CWM 3.1.0.1 later. The 2nd link is the EXT4 one.

Thanks but when I do that, it says can't mount /sdcard in cwm 3.0.0.6...

Note: Tried 3 different SD cards and still doesn't work.. I just want this MIUI ROM to work!!
(Only reason I wanted to root)
2nd Note: I can use cwm 3.0.0.6 but I cant fully wipe data because I get an error(forgot it)
However, I did install MIUI Rom but got errors since its 3.0.0.6 and not the latest version or ACS recovery.. Helpppp :/

Use ext4 and rfs version, formattor is not needed

Just as a FYI, RFS is essentially used by the stock rom only. If you come across a rom thats based on stock, chances are it will use RFS. An example would be the ArpegGioMod rom by Darkshado. If you want the most versitality, go with what voetbalremco said.

My CM7 Install guide.
-Note: Install every zip named: "update.zip" and place on the sd.
1 Download latest and install ClockworkMod Recovery (signed_cwm-5.0.2.7-flashablezip-ext4only.zip > ext4 internal partition, you should use cwm with ext4only). ( Place it on root of your sdcard. reboot to recovery mode. install this cwm from recovery)

1.5 reboot in recovery en factory reset etc. (And cache wipen. See note 2)
2 Flash Cyanogenmod 7 ROM :
Download and copy the latest CM7 ROM to SD Card
Reboot to Recovery Mode
Select install zip from sd card
Select choose zip from sd card
Select the new CM7 ROM
Select Yes - Install update
Wait till the Installation is finish
Select reboot system now
3 flash Cyanogenmod 7 rom update. Same way as stap 2.
NOTE 2:
It's not automatically wipe your data. if you want to install fresh rom, you must wipe data before install it! If you from stock / custom rom based on rfs filesystem, u must flash ext4-formatter.zip before flash CyanogenMod. link & instruction can fount on This Thread. otherwise you'll stuck on android logo because it cant mount rfs filesystem! have problem after upgrade from earlier cyanogenMod? you should wipe your data!!

Sd card can be formated with a uttility form windows or from recovery.
4.5 Make a nandroid backup if you like! (Ore first a Tatanium backup of new progams installed)
5 Install & Enable a2sd Darktremor (Clean up sdcard a bit first if you like)
(This programs comes with CM7)
go to terminal emulator and write:
su
a2sd zipalign
a2sd cachesdreset.
if u want use a2sd extream (move data to sd-ext):
a2sd datasd
6 Install & Enable Simple2Ext (S2E)
(Personally i did skip step 5 and 6 for now.)

Last note: If you want to be able to install a other rom that uses a frs internal system partition it would be best to install a original rom. A rom made by Samsung (OTA its called i think) After that you're internal partition is on rfs format again.

as for mine i stop at step 11 because it worked already without modifying scripts..
my point is ext4, i just read in merruk you need to flash ext4 using CWM,, because ext4 is a zip file,,
is ext4 is same as ext3 ext2,,
i have already ext3 running using a2sd,

Its not for the sd card.. Your mentioning ext2/3 for the 2nd partition of sd card.. Flashing ext4.zip wipes data and cache and converts it to ext4 from rfs.. It increases performance but a noticeable little battery drain..

Its simple. After having your desired custom ROM flashed you can apply merruk kernel with ext4.
1) Flash the merruk kernel using kernel updater or using odin(refer merruk topic)
2) Flash ext4 . It wipes the data and cache.
3) You need to flash your custom rom/stock ROM now as youll get boot loops
4) If you still encounter bootloops after flashing stock/custom ROM, flash the merruk kernel again.
5) Reboot and check the kernel version in settings->About phone and make sure its merruk 2.0
6) Thats it. Profit
I recently upgraded my phone from Stock 2.3.6 to Maclaw 4.0.4. I accidently flashed the ROM twice using CWM 5.0.2.6 without mounting my SD Card (/sdcard)(Not sure if it is important). Anyway, after Wiping data/Factory reset and wiping the Dalvik Cache, I rebooted my phone. After a successful reboot, It displayed a message saying "Encryption Unsuccessful" with a Reset button (which basically didn't do anything). What I did trying (Hopelessly) (using CWM) to remove this error was:
- Re flashing the ROM
- Formatting the sdcard and partitioning again
- Formatting everything (/system /data ....) and re-flashing
- Removing the battery (Hopelessly )
And with every step I re-wiped data and dalvik and rebooted with the same error.
I am thinking of restoring the stock rom and then re-installing this ROM but I'm not sure if it will be useful.
So any suggestions?

Where are you getting the ext4 formatter file from? If it wasn't designed or compiled specifically for the Galaxy Gio, it may not work. Have you tried the file found on this thread? It may be rare, however the ext4-formatter.zip file you downloaded could have become corrupted. If the file on the link above doesn't work, google 'Galaxy Gio ext4 Formatter' and some results should pop up.
Or instal phiexz cm7.2 there is his ext4 formatter inside :screwy:

Problem:
I can't flash any custom rom successfully.
At first, I use CWM but I can't wipe dalvik cache.
Then, I switched to RZ recovery and it can wipe dalvik cache for me.
I wipe dalvik, data, cache before flashing many new roms, however, it just doesn;t work....just stay at s5660, some kind of screens
[solved]:
1. install EXT4 formatter via CWM5.0.2.7 rfs+ext4( I am using Stock RFS system ROM)

If you have error status 6, unzip and repack it (save only or compressed best)
2.wipe data/factory reset and wipe data
3. advance-> wipe dalvik cache
4. flash a ext4 only CWM
5. flash MIUI ROM and it was successful
