Captivate Glide is compatible with microSD XC 64GB [Edit] - Samsung Captivate Glide

I just received my brand new SanDisk microSD XC 64Gb.
Took some time to copy all data from my previous 32Gb microSD.
I ejected the 32Gb and replaced it by the 64Gb ... Glide wasn't able to detect the card ... at all !
On windows, file system info is : extFAT (not FAT32).
I read somewhere that most of the latest phones are compatible with this new 64Gb card.
Does this mean that current Glide ROM doesn't have the extFAT drivers embeded ?
I'll try later this 64Gb memory card on a HTC doubleshot (MT4GS).
So, more to come !
Edit : it works .... microSD 64GB needs to be formated with the device (Glide) !

You probably already know this but, the manual states that it supports up to 32GB Micro SDHC only.

Yes, I do know this.
But it has been reported that latest HTC and Samsung devices (Galaxy S II) can read/write this type of microSD card, even if user manual states that device supports only 32GB SDHC.
So I was wondering... why not our device...

I remember seeing that if you format the card on the phone first it should work and recognize all 60ish GBs. This was on a SGS2 though.
Edit: Here is the video where I saw this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYUg14u_co8

Do you actually get the 30MB/Sec transfer speed the Micro XD card supports on the Glide? Just wondering as it normally does not support that card so are you reaping the full benefits in size and speed?

Size: My previous 32GB was full. I copied all that stuff on the new 64GB and added a few more (large) files. So it does the trick, for now.
Speed : I used SD Tools and it gave these results:
Writing speed : 7.1 MB/s
Reading speed: 18.9 MB/s (with a peak at more than 23MB/s)
This is no 30MB/s but it works great.

Thank you for confirming this, I'm liking this phone even more now!
So it's not slower than a officially supported MicroSD card? have you noticed any read/write lags, delays or any other issues?

No, no lags at all (for now).
I can listen to music (stored quite a lot on it), watch movies with a decent bitrate.
It is not the fastest card I've ever seen, but it does its job and brings large storage capacity !

* Up to 30 MB/sec read speed. Write speed lower. Based on SanDisk internal testing; performance may be lower depending on host device. 1 megabyte (MB) = 1 million bytes.

My 8GB Sandisk only managed 3.9MB/s Write and 8.3 MB/s read using sd tools so I think these results are great and definitely show a bright future for this phone.

I ordered it from Amazon, it's own its way!

Bought a 64gb Sandisk Sdxc from the online shop you have linked: it never worked, with any mobile up to a Galaxy S3, not just my Captivate Glide, nor my friends smartphones.
Also, using the sdxc with the provided adaptor didn't work either, with many different computers. The SDXC is never recognized by anything.
Every time I have inserted the card on a device, it started overheating.
I have asked mobymemory to either replace the item or refund my money, they never replied.
To me these makes them a bit shady as sellers, not likely to be legit, if not total scammers.

Actually this 64.GB works really great.
Got it working in the captivated glide, and now it works as well in my S3 !
Fyi: I also used it with a S2 (no format required after initial format with the Glide).
No overheating in any of these devices.
The only thing you have yo keep in mind is format the sdxc with the Glide (at least once). Then phone will be able to use it. Using the adapter will allow you to use it with Windows platforms...
Don't try to format it with windows... Glide won't recognize it at all.
About mobymemory, I bought from these guys a few memory cards (micro .sd, CF, ...) : never had any issues with these. Right now I think they are quite reliable.
Hope it helps !

The stuff you wrote is obvious. I am speaking about the fact that it's impossible to format; that the adaptor doesn't work, and that the SDXC overheats, doesn't matter where I put it. Their service is completely unresponsive.
Good for you that it worked (for you), but given I bought from them after solely reading your post, I am not accusing you but I want to warn others, so they can compare two very different experiences with the same online store (they look to be an ebay also) and product, and make their decision.

Anyone uses these type of memory cards on ICS? Any experiences?

Iconia Tab A100 + ICS + Sandisk 64G = Success

I purchased a sandisk 64G microSD for my Galaxy S2 Skyrocket. Out of curiosity I tried the Sandisk on my ICS 4.0.3 Iconia Tab A100 and it worked fine, no issues. Just an FYI for those who want the ultimate amount of storage. I had to format the SD first....

thanks for the advise, what class is your sd card?
Class 6, 64GB the sandisk red and gray one (I can't post links apparently, <10 posts).
I got the iconia for $159 from Daily deals about a month ago and so far it has totally exceeded all my expectations. Truly a great tablet.... The SD was on special for $59 including shipping, from adorama, which wasa deal also! This unexpected ability to work with a 64GB SD means my iPad 3 is now staying home!

I was having issues trying to use a SanDisk 32 GB mini. It would format in Fat32 (would take forever to format) and would appear to work for a while on the A100 but then I would start getting strange "unable to write" error messages from different apps.
I am not sure of the class, could having the wrong class card be a cause of my problems?
Thanks!

Its a mod. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422158.
Please fill the card, I've been down this road before, sometimes the size will report correctly but after the data actually exceeded the devices working specs the data becomes corrupted. Please check it out.

There is no reason for it to not work. If the system can use the card and mount it the swap will work. That being said, it may still only use 32gb if the cards capacity. The tegra2 itself is rated for 64gb however the iconias other hardware may not handle it so well.
If he could report back at 40gb if it works OK then that would cement it working or not. I mean like fill it with whatever to 40gb, slap on a movie and watch it for corruption. I'd test it but I only have 32gb and smaller.
Tapatalked from my Galaxy S II.
OP here. I'm not going to try the memory swap, as I have no need and don't want to break anything, the associated warnings are pretty dire.
I have ~19GB free on the 64GB MicroSD and no problems accessing, reading and deleting files.

128GB micro sd memory card

Hi, does anyone know when microsd 64GB memory card will be in the market?

Android support memory card up to 2TB (2000GB) so 128 GB is no problem for SGS 3

128GB cards will work, as to when they'll hit the market who knows. I'm hoping no later than October-ish this year, which would be one year after the 64GB cards. I will get one at release regardless of cost and confirm they are working in various handsets for everyone. Cannot come soon enough for me, had my 64GB since a few days after they were released and just not adequate for my needs.
The Galaxy SII Skyrocket is only rated to handle a 32GB microSD card, but easily works w/64GB microSD cards also.
So I'd be willing to bet the SIII would do just fine with a 128GB card.
My wallet on the other hand... :silly:

uhs is only supported if the card reader supports this feature, sandisk also mention about this.
you can still use the same card in a non uhs compliant reader, but will only get the class 10 specification and speed.

It would be handy for people that want to play blurays either on their phone or through the HDMI out. Or for audiophiles that listen to lossless audio which takes up around 10 times the storage (which sound absolutely AMAZING with the wolfson DAC and voodoo). Or maybe they just want to never run out of storage?
A 32 gb card will only hold around 100-150 lossless songs, and an avg size mp3 you could have around 1000-1500. A HQ bluray rip avg size is around 8gb, which can only be played on SDXC because regular cards aren't formatted to allow playback of files over 4gb.

your screenshot is showing your internal memory test. If you want to test external memory then you have to pick /sdcard/external_sd instead.
To respond to OP: I got mine from Amazon, cost me 54 EUR for SanDisk UHS class1, class 10, XC I 64gb. 32gb Sammy MicroSD HC class 10 is performing a bit better for me (just a slight bit) but lacks the space, and SanDisk one is performing as a beauty here.
ps: if in need of my screens for test on Sandisk, let me know.
Is it worth getting a 64gb card for sg2?
I ask as I've seen many reviews tgat say data can be wiped as it's not suitable.
I'm in the market for a card though can't decide if 64gb would be overkill, but at same time would negate deleting old files vids etc I may need later...
Sandisk seems the way to go, any thoughts?

Depends on your need for storage space. I had 12Gb of music on 32GB one and photos and vids just zeroed it, let alone apps/games on it. I have no problem with 64GB now. I guess, it's each to his own. And if it is going to be self_wiped, then it will be my loss there, but I don't see any problem at this time, nor my microsd performs bad or has glitches.
Having SanDisk only for a month now, I can say I'm pleased how it's performing in terms of speed and stability. I can't predict what comes next but I never had any microsd breaking on me, or any problems in the past (had from 2 t o64GB microsd from SanDisk, Samsung etc... over 4 years time span).
Hope this helps a bit.

Owner of SGS2 here (visible in my sig.): If you pick /sdcard on SGS2 it's measuring internal storage (16GB one), if you change it to /sdcard/external_sd, then it's testing external microsd card. Dunno what SGS3 does and what not, it's on ICS as a base...

I just bought a sandisk 64gb sdxc. Can't wait for it to be delivered!!! $60 AUD on Shoppingsquare, which i think is good value
And now for my 2cents worth:
Is 64gb an overkill?
Yes, but that's what I said about my 16gb card 2 years ago, and now I have no space.
Besides, i envisage apps, music, videos to get bigger as it gets better in quality.
e.g. with 64gb i can afford to have lossless audio.
Also, I have now in my room, 1gb, 2gb, 4gb, 8gb micro sd card.
I probably would have spent less money if I upgrade to a much higher capacity each time.
not to mention they are now just sitting there being wasted.
Usb adapters, lik SanDisk one, FTW / then you have a "switchable" USB key...
I don't have any wasted microSDs at all, but still has 2 x 4gb, 1 x 8 gb and 1 x 16gb micros's...
Gonna put in an order for one of these. Thanks for advice!
nice!

Hi,
Storage media of any type does not 'self-zero' itself. When it is full it stops you from writing data. Think about it: Would Sandisk still be in business if it did?
A likely reason your Sd card are self-zero'ing is because you bought a counterfeit card from a shop like Amazon or Ebay.
This is very common.
What happens? The fraudster buys cheaper 4 Gb SD Cards. He then modified the SD card firmware so that it reports to the operating system that the card is actually 32Gb. The O/S formats the card (typically a quick format by writing a few blocks at the start of the card) and you start coping the data across. Regretfully when you cross the 4 Gb limit of the card you end up writing no where. Seems that the data is simply zeroed or another error appears.
There are numerous of reports about this on Amazon.
Solution:
Don't buy SD cards from Ebay.
If you buy from Amazon then ensure that you buy from Amazon and not the Amazon MarketPlace.
Finally: If it is too cheap, then there may well be something amiss ;P
Also, I have now in my room, 1gb, 2gb, 4gb, 8gb micro sd card.
I probably would have spent less money if I upgrade to a much higher capacity each time.

Problem
i buy de sandisk 64gb and when i tranfer files from mi pc to the sd card i got slow tranfer speeds (around 5-6 mb/s). The sd is in fat32 that possibily affects the perfomance?, when i do sd speed test from the play store i got 13mb/s write and 30mb/s read.
Also i cant achive mounting correctly on ntfs with the app from the marquet ntfs mounter which is in xda

does not support, but it works fine if you format the card in the phone. exFAT does not work, however, so you are limited to files < 4gb in size. Kind of defeats the purpose of having such a large microsd card though
UHS1 is simply a speed classification typically used by high power cameras. C10 refers to the minimum write speed of 10mb/s.
This card will work in exfat format for stock GS3, however cwm or twrp recovery only supports fat32 which this card will format to.
I have used this card before so don't be reluctant to to purchase it.
I have been using this exact card since the date I got my GS3 (mid June). It works well with everything and never crashed. It also works with backup and restore within CWM. YMMV though. It is exFAT formatted.
Phone will format it as fat32 and all will be fine. Tested and works well.

What are you guys talking about? Have anyone actually tried this out?
I have this exact same card UHS-1 Class 10 (not the old Class 6 one) in exFat format and everything works fine in CWM and in Android.
EDIT: BTW, I formatted the card with SDFormatter on my PC, not on the phone.
S3 doesn't support UHS-1 speed but it does support exFAT format. The card itself came as exFAT, S3 won't even ask you to reformat it as FAT32. Just pop it in and everything works 100%.
Sweet, just nabbed one. I check the price every day also and was just about to post it here...beaten to the punch as usual .

I have this exact same card UHS-1 Class 10 (not the old Class 6 one) in exFat format and everything works fine in CWM and in Android.
EDIT: BTW, I formatted the card with SDFormatter on my PC, not on the phone.

SD formatter is awesome software. I had issues with a 4speed card jumping in my canon. The SDformatter, made it stop. Dunno how it works, but it does.
Saw this on another android blog this morning and picked up a 32 for the gf, and a 64 for myself. Thanks for posting guys.

Too bad it can't be shipped to Canada. :crying:
Be aware!
I bought the very same card at the beginning of the month and after 2 days of use the Card stopped working...
The card became unusable and I had to fill a claim with Amazon since the seller didn't reply to any of the emails I sent...
Just my experience guys...

[Q] Please. Which Micro SD Card? Galaxy Note 10.1

I bought my first tablet - Galaxy Note 10.1, 16g, a week ago. Latest updates to 4.1.2. I have searched the net, watched video's, read till I'm blind, called Samsung(No Help There), and walked away totally frustrated more than once. All the tech stuff about Class #,(4 verses 6 or 10) type, Samsung verses Sandisk, exfat, HC, HCCX, HCl, on & on.. It would all be fine IF there was a general favorite.
I want to buy the best functioning, best peformance micro 32 g sd card for general all around enjoyment the Note will best utilize.
Please, please suggest the best 32g sd card for the Note. Please be specific with brand, class, and type. I have learned so much from you folks. I am glad I found this site for most all my concerns. I will certainly thank you for taking your time to suggest the most appropriate purchase.:fingers-crossed:
Well, to keeo it short and sweet. First off, some have gotten it to accept a 64gb card but with a certain formatting and process to go through.
In my experience, I got this 32gb card for 22.00 on sale at a local wholesaler. It was accepted by the n8013 without any difficulty.
Sandisk worked for me.

It really doesn't matter as far as class goes and the tab does take up to a 64gb card easy enough. I just bought a SanDisk 64gb Class 10 card off NewEgg for $54.99 on their Shell Shocker deal of the day thing. You just pop the card in, go to settings, storage, scroll down to SD Card and format SD card. Basically it's just a FAT32 format, but whatever...
Anyway, that's it. After that you are all set to use it.
I also have a SanDisk 64gb Class 10. The class doesn't make a difference, all current cards will perform the same. You won't notice a performance difference on the Note. You just need to format to fat 32, as the other poster suggested. I would also buy from a reputable seller because there are a lot of knock offs with fake labeling on them. I got mine from Best Buy for $56. The 32 gb was around half the price.
A lot of people go with Sandisk because of reliability and price.
i have sandisk 64gb class 10 bout it from ebay £42 and converted it to iternal memory thanks to zedomax hack i have 64gb iternal memory

Ok Folks, I can not thank you enough for your time and advice. But I will anyway, Thank You ALL for responding. :good:
New Egg jumped back up to $80 and Amazon was $65 and then sold out while I was checking a few things..... So I ordered the Sandisk 64g HDXC SDSDQUA-064G-U46A. I just hope it works when I put it in the Note. I may be back for help if it is not as simple as you say. Then if it is, I hope I can intall APPS on it with out restrictions to space and all will be Dandy, right?
After a week of trying to find a case-Moko Slim fit, sd/usb/micro usb adaptor-JUICED Systems GT401-01, screen protector-ClearPleax, and now micro SD card, I am exhausted! Still need one of those mini keyboards, but need to decide if rf or bt is the way to go. Now I just need to learn how to use all the neat stuff on Note...I think I will be ready to use it for work..& fun. Thanks Again.
Using 64Gb sandisk class 10 ( black friday around 40usd ) - works fine..

Hey Jerry,
You only get notified if you subscribe to the thread (in response to your PM). Anyway, as I said, the formatting the Note uses for MicroSD is FAT32. You don't need to turn it off to insert the SD, but when you eject it, you would want to go into setting, storage, and unmount SD card.
You don't need partitions, but because it's FAT32, you are limited to 2GB or smaller files.
Anyway, that should answer the SD questions.
As for the keyboard, I have the Logitech Tablet Keyboard for Android. Works very well, comes with a tablet stand sorta built in the case, and it's full sized, so typing on it rocks. Costs $70-80 though.

False. I have a stock note 10.1. So does my mother and father. We all are running 64gb sd cards out of the box. Class 10 sandisk 64gb. Absolutely no formatting necessary. Plug and play.

From what I understand, you cannot install and run Apps from your SD card...
According to another poster here 'From what I understand, you cannot install and run Apps from your SD card...' I know some apps may not be willing to load from an extrernal card for some vendor reason, but that is the exception, is'nt it? For the most part, we can load, install and use apps with the 64gb card we ordered right? I know I have held off loading apps because I want them on the ext sd.

I have had the same success with three gt-n8013 notes. Its a complete falsity that the 64gb class 10 san disks need to be formatted to work. Plug and play.

Sandisk 32gb Class 10 heres a link http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-micro...&qid=1358903514&sr=8-2&keywords=32gb+micro+sd
Class 10 has faster data transfer speeds way worth the extra $6-8.
had a SanDisk 16GB and it went sour. never bought one tho somehow got them all for free
edit: they did replace it for free also, but I lost all my data on a so called reliable card

Got it today. worked without doing anything. 59.4g. How can I confirm the format is FAT32 or exFAT? I have read that it can be either?
