[Q] need SystemUI.apk from the Cy4noobsMod-7.1.3.1 ROM - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

I've downloaded and replaced the SystemUI.apk from Cy4noobsMod-7.1.3.1 ROM with the Cm7 semi transparent statusbar for galaxy gio (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423008 )
the problem is that the notification bar disappeared completely from the phone's screen.
i have the original kit of the Cy4noobsMod-7.1.3.1 ROM on my sd card and i extracted the SystemUI.apk file and replaced the semitransparent one that i have previously copied to system/app . i have rebooted the phone, but no luck, the notification bar is still missing.
any suggestions and ideas are welcomed

thank you for the advice, but i got used to this Rom and i intend to keep if for a few more weeks.
i was looking for a simple solution, just a quick method to restore the damage i have done, without having to do a factory reset or install another Rom. but i appreciate your help

fixed
after intense google-ing the answer was actually here, on the xda forum.
all the credits go to revcompgeek . i just copy/pasted the instructions. the original post is here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415075
Installation Instructions
Download SystemUI.apk
Make sure /system is remounted R/W. This can be done with Root Explorer or ES File Explorer. If you get a "Read-only filesystem" error this is the step you missed.
Replace /system/app/SystemUI.apk with the downloaded one.
At this point it is normal for the status bar to disappear. If it starts Force Closing repeatedly, pasting again should stop it so that you can continue to fix the permissions.
Make sure the file is owned by the root user and group.
Make sure the permissions of the file are 644, or read, write for user and read for group and other.
Reboot and enjoy!

to OP,
can't you just unzip the file on PC and copy Vending.apk to /system/app and then do the same for /data/app (of course renaming it appropriately here) without flashing?

I see you know how to do this.
Why don't you do it yourself?
It's so easy.
Unpack
Duplicate the vending.apk
Rename one of the file to com.android.vending-1.apk and push it to data/app
Push the vending.apk to system/app
That's it.

SMS Themes missing? [KPN]?

In the Messaging app when you pressed menu there was a SMS theme, for the Conversation Bubbles in Froyo, I was just wondering if it's only KPN that has these missing or does KPH, I suspect KPH is missing them too because it's older, I actually used these and Samsung removed them.. Im going to email them and ask where it went..
Yes, they did remove the sms themes in GB. Noticed it the first time I flashed to kph.

No way to patch it back?
Hi, I found a way to change SMS Themes(should work in any 2.3.3 rom).
The method may slightly convoluted but it works and the required Root and Root Explorer.
1. Download the MMS.apk file from http://hotfile.com/dl/125135991/4e5073b/Mms.apk.html by vertcam9.
2. Copy the file on the memory card.
3. Turn Root Explorer, go to SDcard and select Copy on MMS.apk click back button then go to the root.
4. Find the system/app/ set the mount at Mount R/O and find there oryginal MMS.apk file and change name to MMS.apk.bak.
5. After this paste previously copied file MMS.apk Paste option and change the permissions for Owner = Read, Write, Group = Read, Others = Read.
6. Restart the phone.
7. In the list of messages click on the option key and choose Send Again in the lower right corner. Menu appears on the skin changes click there and choose Theme what you like.
8. We go to the message and placed a check if the skin, if everything went ok should be changed.
9. Turn Root explorer go to system/app/ find there file and delete the MMS.apk
10. Change the oryginal file name to MMS.apk.bak to MMS.apk and restart the phone.
After this, we have the original MMS.apk with message theme.
If you want another theme repeat steps 1 to 10
not work in 2.3.4
Read! (should work in any 2.3.3 rom)
noway for working on 2.3.4?
Must we do step 9 and 10? I got working mms.apk with theme from step 8.

[Q] no Home apk after I replaced the existing home.apk with the new one

Hi,
This morning I tried to install the xperia S apk file to my xperia arc s running on android 4.03.
However before replacing, I took a backup of existing home.apk using root explorer.
I replaced the existing one with a new home.apk and then did a reboot.
After reboot I am not able to see the home.apk at all in the default application list.
I did a factory reset but still dont see the home.apk.
Now i am unable to see the screen itself. Kindly help me to restore the home.apk
Small query: Is it possible to install home.apk file from CWM recovery?
Please guide me
Did you changed permission before replacing the apk?
To make it working you need to change the permission of Home.apk then replace and reboot.
Permission should be like this-
r-w-
r - -
r - -
So I guess now your problem is that you can power on your device then but it is stuck @ boot logo right?
IF yes then you might try this.
Download this launcher from the link below. It's Zeam launcher and it's free available in the market.
http://www.mediafire.com/?991i94rx5kaxy85
After downloading, unzip it and put the apk. in to the following flashtools location-
Flashtools\Custom\app\ [I assume you have flashtools installed and also have root access]
Then open Flashtools and power on the device and connect it. Your device will stuck @ boot logo, no problem just connect it.
Then you should see that in Flashtools displays a message that "root access allowed"
Then @ top bar of flashtools you will see some icons. One of them is a curved arrow and that indicates apk installer. Click it and it should install the Zeam launcher to your device.
Then you restart the device and you will be able to use the phone using Zeam Launcher. You can restore the Home.apk as well.
This was the complicated way.
Now if u have CWM recovery installed and can boot in to recovery then you just need a flashable zip of the Home.apk
There are many Flashable Zip available in the Theme & Apps section. Download one from that. Then put that zip in to you SD card. Reboot in recovery and install that zip.
Since you can not operate your phone directly so may need a Card reader to access the memory card of your phone to save the Zip there.
Thanks a lot for your reply.
I guess I made the work more complicated but I could learn something out of it.
I actually could restore the home.apk in a bit different and complex manner as compared to your solution.
I entered the CWM more and did a factory reset and then did a reboot.
Once done, I got all the steps of registering mobile for first use
I could get into settings but couldn't get to the home screen to access applications. So I did some stupid work but seems like that was a life savior
I connected a headset and there was a pop up stating "a new accessory connected"
From that i could select an application for launch and I chose "Application Installer". I could now access the apk files from application installer and then i installed one home.apk (I guess its for xperia S) and then did a reboot.
I am now able to see the homescreen and everything but its the homescreen of xperia S. Now i got back into the root explorer app and then tried to change the permission of home.apk (xperia S) to the one you just suggested and then replaced the home.apk (default apk for xperia arc s) and replaced and did a reboot.
But I still see that home.apk is not replaced with the default home.apk of xperia arc S.
Is it possible to get back my default home.apk (xperia arc S) if so please guide me.
Sorry for being so stupid and messing up things here. This is the first time I am trying to work with a root device.
Aside from setting permissions and changing owner to "root", you need to go into settings, apps, all and clear the data for Xperia Home. Then reset. It's worked for me on both 4.0.3 and 4.0.4.
If you can access root explorer then i believe you can easily replace with the original Home.apk of Xperia ARC S
This is the link for Xperia ARC S Home.apk of ICS 4.0.3
http://www.mediafire.com/?s4m6f8d9dmqhp0g
And do this and it's a must as adielee mentioned.
Clear the data after replacing. I forgot mention it earlier.
Heya,
I had the same issue and this is what caused it; not enough free space on the system partition (/system).
Go to the /system folder an delete bloatware apk's and/or .apk's you don't need, like the clock widgets and/or the powersaver.
After I did that, I had like 8 Mb of free space and then I installed a new/edited home.apk & rebooted into to new home
After the boot, the system partition only had 500Kb free space while the home.apk was only 1.5Mb.
And yes, it is possible to make your own CWM installer for the home.apk
Take a look at this post; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23358807&postcount=94
Download the .zip file and copy your home.apk into the .zip (overwrite existing file!)
Worked Perfectly !!
I followed your instructions and it worked perfectly now!!! thanx auni & adielee!!

Task650 updated status bar icons

Guys and Gurls, I made this for myself but thought that I would share with the community.
I have modded the Data/Signal/WIFI and battery icons to be more like TouchWiz but have left all the other stuff as is.
BACKUP YOUR SYSTEMUI.APK JUST IN CASE. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!
Installation instructions.
You can either use a root file manager of your choice or use the file manager in TWRP. Either way, copy the included SystemUI,apk you download over to the system/app folder on your ROOTED phone. (i have not tried this on any rom other than Task650's) once completed set permissions and reboot. One little point to make, you have to set the signal to ALTERNATE in order to view the updated signal icons, also under battery, change option to circleMOD if you would like the same icon used in 23togglemod (circlebat i think). I have also update the icon in the Statusbar Toggles too, it now shows LTE in place of 4G.
note: if you use TWRP to copy the file, make sure you mount SYSTEM first or you will not have access to the folder.
PS I would have added screenshots of LTE (not in lte area right now)
Hope you enjoy,

[Guide]How to edit the icons in the statusbar (wifi, signal, etc)

Hi guys. I'll gonna show you how to edit or change the icons in the statusbar. My first Guide
There are two methods:
1.Using a 7zip,winrar,etc
2. Using an apktool.apkmanager bla bla
If you don't know how to decompile or recompile apk. Just follow the first method ( it is easier )
THINGS NEEDED
1. 7zip,Winrar, (or any other softwares lke these)
2. Gimp, photoshop ( or anything like these) ---> if you want to edit it
3. Root browser app like Root explorer, Es File Explorer etc.
~~
1st Method.
Now, Using a root browser, go to system/app and copy the SystemUI.apk to your computer.
Open the apk with the program you have.
Then go to res/drawable-ldpi. You can see many png files there.
Now time for you to edit bla bla bla. Make sure you will keep its original name and if you are finished editing.
After that, Put your SystemUI.apk to system/app. Make sure that the permission is right. It is rw-r-r. If it's not. press and hold systemui.apk for a while then an option will appear. Select permissions . In owner. check read and write. In group check read and same with others
(I dont know for the other root browsing applications beacause I'm using root explorer)
Smile and Be Calm. If Force Closes appear. Just reboot it.
2nd Method
THINGS NEEDED:
1.Knowledge in compiling and decompiling
2.apktool or apk multi tool. (apk multi tool is user friendly but I'm using apktool XD)
3. A root browsing tool.
Using a root browser. Take the SystemUI.apk from system/app
Decompile SystemUI.apk.
Go to res/drawable-ldpi.
Now edit or change what you want and keep or use the original name of the file
Recompile. Push it to system/app using a root browser and make sure that permissions are rw-r-r.
reboot and enjoy!
Note: If you are on stock rom. You must first deodex it
Don't forget to press the thanks button Hope it helps
