Best AOSP GB Launcher? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sup...
I just flashed salvage-mod 1.4 the other day and I extremely love this rom but I have a few issues with it such as the black messaging (i like white) and there is no silent state for the volume..
So what I really love about this rom is the launcher it has. Its the AOSP GB Launcher with settings to where you can change the number of screens (i prefer just 3) and has the 3D drawer and it runs so smooth and flawlessly.
I really want this launcher, but to be able to put it on CM7. I love CM7 but i dont like the adw launcher at all or any other launcher in the market. ADW Ex is great but the quality isnt great compared to the AOSP Launcher...
My question is... is there a way to get salvage-mod's launcher on to CM7? Like an apk? Or any other close alternative?
Or if someone could help me with the black messaging and silent state
Thanks!

I could be wrong but I believe that is the stock gingerbread launcher that comes with salvage mod. I think you can get it from the market. It could be Launcher Pro also. I prefer GO Launcher on AOSP roms for it's customization characteristics. ADW is good if you but the paid version. I don't know if there is a dark and light theme for the messaging app. If not you would have to theme it yourself or look in the themes section to see if someone else has already done it.

Just saying that it should be in the market. You said you really want that launcher on CM7. Look up gingerbread launcher or try GO Launcher. It has lots of options from number of screens to animations and many themes. Just trying to help.

Oh yes, sorry but all the GB launchers in the market dont have the options that the savage launcher has.

I'm sure those customizations are built into the framework. You're not likely going to find it for CM7. You can check the Themes and Apps section for the gingerbread launcher. There may be a modified version there. Kinda doubt it. Sorry

You can try using titanium backup back up the launcher and restore it to cm7 if the launcher apk was modified it will work if its a framework mod it wont work properly but its worth a shot

Not sure if it'll help at all, but I've done a similar thing with ICS when I wanted to use the Trebuchet Launcher instead of the source ics launcher. I extracted the Launcher2.apk from within the zip of the rom, and used it as a replacement in the exisiting rom. Just a matter of messing with the files within the flashable zip. Not sure if this will help you but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Hm interesting, I may give this a try

Your awesome!!!! It worked! Ima hit the thanks button!
Edit: For some reason it wasnt sticking after reboots so i took a flashable zip that was meant for one app, replace the apk with my launcher2.apk and its working. I did that so it could install under system

Try ADW Launcher EX

Glad it worked, if you have anymore questions/issues about making it stick just lemme know

[Q] AOSP themes and roms?

Am I absolutely blind or is this the only AOSP themed ROM that we have right now?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788150
and if so, does that mean you guys all really love TW that much?
You know you can add the vanilla lock on any rom. Did you know if you download home switcher from the market you can run the aosp launcher even if the phone is stock. I've noticed most people use adw and launcher pro

I know that if you've got ADW Launcher, there is a free ASOP theme available for it on the Market...BTW ADW Launcher is free also!
Yeah I was using Launcher2 on stock TW to begin with but I just missed the aosp lockscreen and taskbar. I'll just be using Bubs rom with launcher2 for now.

Emotionless Beast has a stand along zip of the aosp(vanilla)lockscreen, just DL and flash through Clockwork!

How do I change the bottom?

I've noticed screen shots where the bottom portion no longer contains the ( /\ Phone + ) at the bottom. Just wondering how I can do that. Yes I am a noob. Just recently rooted my phone and added the Azrael Rom.

Get a new launcher, like Launcher Pro or ADW.Launcher. It will replace the Sense launcher. I think that's what you're looking for.
Awesome

Will I need to do anything special with it like the Rom?

I recommend launcher pro. you can find it in the market I believe, and you would just install it from the market. To activate the launcher if it doesn't start on it's own after install, is go to menu>settings>applications>manage applications>click on the 'all'tab. Find htc sense. Clear defaults (not data). Press the Home button, it will ask you to use launcher pro or sense. check the box and select launcher pro.
If you're rooted, there are also ways to change this with the stock launcher as well. Look for "Rosie" mods in the themes/mods forum. Rosie is what HTC calls the sense launcher.
Nothing at all wrong with Launcher Pro or ADW either though. I used LPP for awhile and really liked it, but went back to Sense because myn has it themed so nicely (transparent app drawer looks great, and LP can't do that yet) and it runs so smooth.

+1
I swtich back and forth between Myn's regular sense theme and his themed launcher pro at least 3 times a day, haha. I can't make up my mind. They both have things I like, too bad they can't be combined. Have the scrolling dock on sense, and rotation of the home screen, I'd be thrilled.

Camera on Lockscreen?

I'm running Calk's E4GT 2 v1.2 ICS ROM. I thought ICS was supposed to let us put the camera app on the lockscreen but I can't find anyway to do it. I know I can get a 3rd party app like WidgetLocker to do it, just wondering if there's a way right in ICS though.

It's not a feature on TW.

I'm not using the TW Launcher though, I'm running the vanilla ICS launcher. Shouldn't that make a difference?

he probably means touchwiz as a whole not just the launcher. i think there is a flashable zip somewhere in the theme/app subforum to get the AOSP lockscreen that has the camera shortcut.
Ah, okay I get it now. Half asleep at work. I'll look for it and thanks guys!

ICS lockscreen question

Is it possible to "transplant" an ICS lockscreen (ie from juggernaut 5.0) and install on another ROM?
I'm using MALICE now, with Eugene's new kernel. I'm tech savvy with some things but a noob with this stuff.

my lockscreen is transparent. I'm not exactly sure what's the process, but I had a picture from my gallery on there, and I flashed another ROM or something along those lines and the screen is transparent, probably because I don't have that picture anymore? not sure? You can try deleting the picture after you set it?
Sorry I don't know the exact way to do it, but it is possible.
What I did was download go launcher
Then I downloaded go locker then found the ics theme lockscreen then I set the default launcher for whichever rom I was running(don't pick go launcher). And boom ics lockscreen on the rom and you don't even have to run go luncher you just have to download it for the locker to work....probably not the way you wanted but that's probably the easiest way...ha

@teo032
I think he meant transplant not transparent. As far as making your lockscreen "transparent" goes, all you need to do is go to cwm and fix permissions, then reboot. It will remove the assigned lockscreen .jpeg file to none.
@evanladoux
Implementing a lockscreen to be built in to a rom is very long process and it requires that you understand programming fairly well.
Yea lockscreens never used to be hard, but in GB witb samsung, its a pain.
M&S
Thank you everybody for your replies.
I was looking to get a built in lockscreen rather than Go Locker, which is what I just went with.
I was hoping it might be as easy as unzipping a ROM, & rename/copy/paste a few files into the DD folders.
Its fine until we have a fully functional TMO ICS. I use Wifi Calling a LOT, so, the current batch of ICS ROMs won't work for me as a DD, though I appreciate all the dev's work to provide (ie M&S .. too many to list)

[Q] Where is Android's default launcher?

First, I'm not as tech. savvy as you all here. I'm just a person who doesn't like HTC's Sense design and I'm not sure on how to get rid of it so I can have the true Ice Cream Sandwich experience.
So, I tried the idea the person had here: lifehacker.com/5600912/turn-off-htcs-sense-ui-on-your-android-phone. I went to homescreen and nothing changed at all. Then I looked through all of my apps only to find that there is no launcher.
I'm really iffy about downloading another launcher as that sort of defeats the purpose of trying to get/find the default launcher that should be here. What should I do?

Thanks but what are those? Are those alternate launchers? I don't want to use any alternate launchers, I want to use Android without all that extra stuff.

Alright, thanks for clearing that up. C: Just tried out the Nova launcher and it already works just a little faster and looks much nicer.
Well I feel the oposite. I'd rather have Sense than stock ICS launcher.
