[Q] DHD Flashlight as a reading light. - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey peeps!
Question First: Has anyone else found a LED flashlight app that works well on the DHD or Inspire that can dim the LED right down?
I want to use the LED on the back as a reading light so I don't have to drain the battery by using the screen but its simply too bright.
I am running an Inspire 4G on Revo HD 6.3.1. The stock flashlight app works well with the 3 levels avaliable and I don't want to kill the LEDs by over running them.
There are tonnes of flashlight apps out there, some using the led and some not. The ones I have researched either don't have a brightness adjustment on the LED or attempt to burn a hole in a sheet of paper.
The only app that I have found which relates to this is call "Reading Light" and is just an adjustable brightness grey screen.
If this has been discussed before please let me know and i'll request this thread be closed. I couldn't find anything regarding this aspect of the topic.
Regards,
Akida

I don't think this has come up before. Its a good request. I'd be interested in something like this.

Bump
Bump for confirmation of possibility please!
Btw .. how often am I allowed to bump? I couldn't find it in the forum rules.

CM 7.1 has a application called Torch which has two light levels. The dim one seems like it would be perfect for reading (it only uses 1 of the 2 flash LEDs). The bright level is insanely bright (much brighter than the Sense flashlight app).
There is an app on the market called Torch, but I don't think its the same one that comes with CM 7.1.

Hey that sounds like its worth a shot. Has anyone extracted the app from CM 7.1? I'm going to ask them for permission anyway.
Thanks for the info.

[Request] Lower brightness from led flash

Since froyo we have had the flashlight app that has 3 levels of brightness. Is there anyway to change the brightness of the flash when taking a picture?

I remeber a while ago I had an app that could turn off one of the flash LEDs. I can't seem to find it now and don't remeber the name. Any help??? I think it would help in night picture taking and avoid washed out pictures.
That's a great app, or at least a great idea for an app if the creator took it down, I would love to have that, and have the option of choosing which led to turn off, one for better lighting and two not to wear one out faster than the other, and the best of all make the flash less as bright.

[Q] How to make the screen Darker?

Hello, I'm looking for a way to reduce the screen brightness even more than currently possible. It is too bright for me to read at night at the moment.
Is there some way?
Check the market. There are way too many apps out there to do the task you wanted.
via xda app
I already have but none of the applications on the market allow me to make the screen really dark. It's still pretty bright even after using programs like AdjBrightness or ScreenDim.
I'm curently using Screen Filter but that only puts a grey overlay over the Displayed Applications.
Try this one: https://market.android.com/details?id=mobi.pruss.superdim
I haven't tested it though.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Already tried that, it is no darker than the lowest setting from the built in menu. Other Android devices can go much darker. I was hoping, that it is just a kernel issue or something like this.
How is it that sreec filter doesn't do exactly what you want? It gets very dark, doesn't it?
One other possibility would be to use Cyanogenmod or any other Rom that lets you set the light sensor levels manually. In my experience, this feature seems to save lots of energy. IF you manually set those levels to very dark, you may get what you are looking for ...

What colours has everyone got working?
For a while, installing it stopped all notification lights. I only wanted it for sleep settings. I changed some colours today (red and green) but then even what was left as blue stopped working.
Test only shows green too.
It just seems to be unreliable for now. I wish I could get tasker to turn off notifications.
On my phone (I9300) it worked, but not perfectly. There were some audio outputs activated. Like someone is commenting me, while I'm doing pinch out on the touchwiz launcher. Idk why, but that f*cked me totally up, so I had to delete this app -.-
hopefully it was a bug, but it was really annoying.
EDIT: A glitch inside this app activated partially the talkback feature, to be concrete.
HTC Desire S!
I guess its not working on HTC Desire S can anyone confirm I tried but nothing happened no change in light color!
I made a video for the Samsung Galaxy S3 LED indicator and the app Light Flow Lite!

Can you dim camera LED

I searched and found no info on dimming the camera's LED. I want to be able to use as a flashlight, but I don't want it so darn bright.
Still looking at different apps on the Play Store, but I think it would have to be some kind of hack for rooted phones, which I haven't done yet.
Any one have any ideas?

I don't think it's possible. When you use it as a flashlight android apps have a setting called "torch" and that's it. There is no modification for adjusting brightness. Also, I looked in the /sys/class/leds/ directory for the camera led to be able to enter your own value for the brightness file, but nothing exists in there for the camera light. I personally like the bright led for a flashlight. If I don't want something super bright, I use a screen flashlight that just displays a white screen and boosts brightness to Max. I personally use a red screen though.

The tricky aspect of what you are talking about doing here is that the Linux kernel is your entire power management for the device. There might be a a root flashlight somewhere in the market that could accomplish this for you, otherwise it would take some adjusting at the kernel level... which again is your power control for hardware
Thank you guys for the help and info. It's not the end of the world if I can't do this, but now I know what to keep my eye out for.
The kernel is the key to over clock and under volt, so I understand that the kernel would have to support that.

Finger print LED as Notification LED

Hi guys
I was thinking if it is possible to use finger print scanner LED as a notification LED? I know it may not be currently possible but just floating the idea for the devs who make things possible all the time
I know the LED is huge to be used as notification LED but some people would love to have an LED instead of a ringtone or vibration alerts, thanks in advance for any help in this regard
I don't know if this is possible but this is a fantastic idea.
If this is actually possible it would be awesome!
Great idea, but is there really a separate LED ? I had always assumed that the FP uses the green lighting from the display itself....

Yes I thought it was like that.
I think it doesn't matter if there's a separate LED to light up the display or part of the screen itself is used as a notification LED, but I think all possibilities are there, to choose the color, random colors each time or per app, position on the screen etc...
I don't really see the point in using those specific pixels as a notification LED when any other pixels on the display work just as well. And if anything, you'd want to avoid lighting up the fingerprint pixels too much since they are being used more at high brightness and therefore more susceptible to burn-in.

I want one to do like Samsung's edge lighting. That with Pixel Pulse would be perfect.
Amy work on this?
I disabled fps on my 6t because of the annoyingly high brightness of this green circle when your finger is close!
I don't think there is a led, I saw a video where they open the 6t and access the sensor module, it's just a camera sensor under the screen, the amoled brightness is boosted in this particular part of the screen, that's all.
Thanks God they didn't use a laser light, half the people would go (really) blind.
You can use an app like noled to simulate a led anywhere on your screen.
What about this app?

Yes, that is the app that a lot of us have been using with no issues. You just have to go into the settings and tweak it to your likings.
