[Q] MMS Reply All - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys - Quick question here. One of the things iPhones (blah, I know) do when sending a text to multiple people is to convert it to MMS. I use Handcent, so I can go into Message Details and see the numbers it was sent to. My question is, is there any way I can reply to all? I try to long press on the message thread, but that option doesn't seem to be there.
One feature that would be great would be a mapping of the numbers to contacts, and it would just be numbers if the contact didn't exist in your directory, but that's not the issue.

Quick bump for a brotha?

There are apps that handle multi messages like that. I'm sure they exist probably on account of the stock msg app lacking in functionality. I cant remember the name of the app though.

I currently use Handcent, so I was hoping there would be something in there, but if there is, I haven't found it yet. Thanks for the reply. Anyone else??!! This must be possible...

FroYo SMS...

Is it safe to say that FroYo's built-in SMS capabilities don't allow you to send an SMS to multiple people at the same time? I was able to do this in 2.1, but maybe that was just due to HTC's implementation of SMS, I'm not sure.
I'd hate to have to get an APP for this, but if I do is there anything you guys recommend?
Thanks!
I've sent to multiple people
type in the first number than a comma then second number
try that...

When you start a new message, select the "send to" area, and add your first contact. Select the send to area again, and add additional contacts...
Awesome thanks! I started playing with it some more and figured out what you guys had just confirmed
I guess I felt they could make it a bit easier, haha. After adding the first contact, I put my cursor after the comma that was added and had to two at least 2 more characters for my contact list to pop up again.
Maybe I'm just being picky xD
Anyway, thanks for the help! ^_^

[Q] Android Group MMS SMS Chat like iPhone iOS4

I have searched many forums and the market to no avail so I was hoping someone here could help.
Is there any way we, android users, can get a function similar to iOS4 users with their "group mms" option. To those of you not familiar, its basically a chat room like feature that uses your text messages. For example, if I were to create a new text on the iphone, I could add more people to it. Once it's sent out, if anyone replies, that reply will go to all of those in the group and so forth. In essence, a chat room is created where everyone receives a copy of everyone else's text.
At any rate, a few of my friends have iphones and I was hoping to be able to communicate with them in such a manner but neither the stock messaging application or handcent has this function. The few options that might work would involve having all of my friends download some new app along with myself and even that doesn't work all the time.
ANY help would be much appreciated.

this would be helpful for me also as i communicate with multiple people. As of right now i just email stuff out to them so we can all see the replies. To have this on text would be awsome.
I would also like to setup groups so i can just select 1 group to text. I had this on my treo pro and it disappeared when i went to these new smart phones.
As far as I know, there is no such feature currently available without the use of third-party applications (that use data to do it).
Sorry
Maybe someone will build that feature eventually lol
The iPhone's ability to 'group chat' is just Apple being smart about the fact that MMS message details contain all recipients. They simply made their SMS app able to receive all the recipients and reply to all as a group.
An Android app like Go SMS or HandCent (or Google's stock app) could easily be modified to work just like this, if someone would do it.

I wish someone would do it already, I felt pretty stupid the other day when I was in a group text with a couple people with iPhones and didn't know it.
App in the market called groupme works perfect even though this thread is super old lol.

Have you tried GO Sms Pro it has what you are looking for built in. Gave that a Try
I've been using GOsms pro for a while and i don't see this feature listed anywhere. Where is it?
I've have also been looking for this feature. The sad part is that it was possible on my old blackjack 2. All of the messaging apps that I have used so far including go sms and handcent only allow you to send texts to more than one person in one conversation, but when they reply, it goes back to being separated. Group chat should be implemented in android like it is on the iPhone.

bump for this.
I woke up this morning to a group chat with 3x iPhone 4S users and I had to reply to each of them individually.
I use go SMS also...
I think you have to be the one to start the group chat, just start a new text message and put in all the numbers/names u wanna text, hit send. it'll automatically group them together in 1 text
bump this i have the same deal , a bunch of friends have iphones...
The sidekick 4g has this feature built in. My friend group chats with me and other friends all the time. To tell u the truth it gets annoying having so many texts at the same time lol
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Any one have solutions for this? A lot of my friends use this on iPhone and its annoying not to participate. So I'll get a text and if I respond it only goes back to the originator, while I then get what look like individual texts from others that are clearly responding and going to everyone, and I'm assuming my responses would only just go back to the original writer. Even if I could just see everyone included and then include them manually I'd be ok.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I also have this problem, and its really annoying me. For me group texts are split into each persons single sms thread, when I would like them to be grouped. Do any of the devs think that they could come up with a solution? Honestly, I would be willing to pay to get this solved
I currently have a thunderbolt and it has SOAB rom from BAMF. With this rom I can see the people on the group list. However, when i was on a different rom I would only see the sender. Since now I can see the the group, I can respond in the thread and join the chats and not be left out. the way I did it was to respond to thread in an mms format. If you guys notice, the iphone group comes in as an mms. So my question to you guys, do you see all the people on the list when you receive that message? If so try replying in a mms format. You can do that by putting a dot in the subject line and it'll convert it to mms. The only annoying part about it is yo have to manually be converting a mms message all the time. If you dont, the sms message will go to them in a seperate thread. I tried to find an app that give you the option to chose a message wheither mms or sms without adding a subject line. The only app i found was verzion messages app which auto converts group messages into mms. However, the app doesnt work all the time. I hope it works for you guys cuz I am really happy now since I dont feel left
Mine does that, although to reply to all u have to long press and select reply to all, which I think is better the iPhone does it automatically,
On sense 3.0 messaging, but sense 1 allowed for group Txts to be sent, so I imagine it had a reply all as well

[REQ] App to pull/merge Google Voice SMS w/Native SMS

I wanna throw this out there, and see if this would be useful to anyone besides me.
I use my Google Voice number as my primary number. I don't even give out my main cell. So, all of my SMS' go through GV. I also text a lot from my laptop.. cuz it's easier. I know this isn't the case for everyone, and that's why I'm posting.
Granted, the Google Voice app has recently gotten a lot better, but it's got a ways to go.
I use Handcent because I like the customization options, e.g. personalized notification sounds, notif bar icons, popups, colors, etc. I also keep a nice backlog of texts since they're searchable.
But most of my SMS logs (on handcent) consist of responses, and not my messages, whereas the Google Voice app or webpage contains the complete logs. I don't know if the messages could be scraped, and pretty sure there's not an API available (and I'm def not a developer anyway), but curious if there is an "app for this", or if this would be useful to anyone.
Basically yielding:
Accurate conversation (sms) threads in Handcent or native sms app, as well as easier backup system (for Google Voice SMS, at least).
Tangent:
In fact, I'm not sure why Google wouldn't want to give the capability to sync ALL of your SMS' to google voice.
k. hope this doesn't get moved to General land.

ya, I've been looking since the days of WinMo 6.1..
I was just about to make a thread about this. I'm willing to make a app that does this, but I don't know the file structure of where google does things.
If you download the Google Voice App, you can see that some where they store all the SMS data about a txt, they just don't expose that to the user through the web interface.
My idea is to take the Google Voice SMS DB, convert it to the XML format supported by SMS Backup & restore and then merge the 2.
If this app existed or I could make it, I would be able to send through the web-interface and my ipad, etc. Now I don't cause when people reply and I'm at my phone, I have no clue what they are talking about.
---------- Post added at 04:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:51 PM ----------
actually, I'm going to make a thread in the dev-section about this.
I wouldn't post in the ddevsection. Its against the rules, as it doesn't belong in there.

well, I hope someone moves it then.
Just go to Google Voice, Settings, Syncs and Notifications, Receive text messages, Also via the messaging app. Now you'll get all you're messages through the stock messaging app or Handcent or whatever else you use.
In correct. Go to https://www.google.com/voice and send a SMS and then check your phone to see if that sms that you just sent is on your phone.
You will find that it isnt.

yes and that misses the whole point of this request.
I (and the OP) want to be able to use the web/iOS/etc... to sent/receive SMS via Google Voice. If you do that now, the replies show up in your native app/handsent, but your txt out are only in google voice.
I want to be able to txt from my iPad through my gv# and when I go back to my android phone, I can follow the convos. Also, they would get backed up with SMS Backup+

Oh oh oh, I misread. Yes, I don't think there is a way around this.
im also very interested in this. i text all day on my comp using gv and if i try to go back and read a convo with go sms i only se received texts and not mine.
if u are willing to just turn on 3g and open the gv app, however, u can view the convo in its entirety. still would be nice to do this without having to enable data.

Why wouldn't desk sms work from your iPad? All it's doing is forwarding stuff to gmail.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
the only missing piece here with GVI is that when you send through GV, you don't get the sent messages back on your phone. The only solution that I've been able to come up with to fix this is an app that syncs between the native GVapp and the native SMS app.
there has to be a db on the phone that stores GV data for the GVapp. If someone could find that for me, that would be just swell.
Anyone ever find a resolution to this?

I don't know about contacts but the Sense roms I used would allow you to move single texts or entire conversations to the secure box, hiding them until you enter your password. The aokp rom I use now has no such option.

As the previous person said. Theres an app in the play store called secret box and miui has it as a built in function. Havent played with the miui one too much. Not sure if it hides it or blocks it.
I hope my gf doesn't read this
Edit: the app hides the contacts, pics, calls, messeges. But play around with it cause I think it will still show at the moment it comes in. You don't need any surprises. Oh, and I'm talking about sms messages.

More to say have I. My drinking buddy rom is vu (i know its old but works n is sexy) which is sense. If that's you this works. Never seen the app.
Put the contact you ent to hide on you sin. Open people, click menu, click view deselect sin.
Wit that n the secure sms inbox, its hides. Will show on Sense lockscreen except weather or pics. But u may want hide some them too.
If u not sense, try app. Let us know. Some US secrets too.

I know Vault app use to let you hide incoming SMS from certain contacts, that is before Google Store changed its policy. It seems Vault no longer offer an older version for download. Any 3rd party apps that still let you do this? Thanks!

Block on stock app works great. They end up in the blocked folder without notifications.
I used to use the private folder in Go Sms Pro... But i use MOOD sms... It takes a little to set up but theres ZERO add spam and functions and looks way smoother.
Stock messaging app does this, no need for a 3rd party app. Open the message thread from the contact in question and hit the 3-dot menu, then custom notifications. You can turn off notifications completely, mute sounds, hide the content, etc. I have my kid's dad muted like this lol.

Private/hidden messages are very much different from blocking. The goal isnt to mute notifications. Its to seperate your main txt threads from your private txt threads. Stock doesn't allow this, not even when using Samsung's own secure folder app. So a 3rd party Apps like go sms... Mood... Textra... Etc are still needed for this level of functionality.
Ive always used Handcent Messaging. Has a private messaging feature that keeps certain contacts out of your main messaging window.
This thread just made my day... "Tryna" get back to work now...? BTW, Textra is a great app but doesn't support private folders, not that I've been able to find anyway...
I have used gosms and it was pretty nice. Dont know if thats still available but it a search.
I need help as after update ui 2.0 i am unable to turn off banner notifications
