New screen problems - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

So I just got my phone a few days ago and while browsing the web I noticed my screen sometimes loses color? Like it goes black and while lines like a static from a tv. Not that bad but it is getting worse. Should I return the phone or what? Is this the same problem with lines and blobs everybody else is having?

Your the first person I have heard have this issue. Best thing to due is return it back to stock if you have modded it and get it replaced. Something is wrong with your phone and should definitely be replaced.

are you sure maybe it's not the AutoBrightness acting up?
try with auto brightness disabled

Would that cause it? I usually have my brightness on high though, which it was at the time.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

this is definitely a new and unique, almist certainly, hardware fault. Reset factory settings and return.

Sounds like he's mistakenly referring to the known "checkerboarding" issue in the stock browser as black & whites lines from a TV...
Just my two cents..

No, that would not cause it. The symptom of that issue is fluctuating brightness not color dropping out. The problem could be a bad video connector or cable in the phone, or a bad display panel. Take it back while you can.

I don't use the default web browser.
I have noticed it the most on the game hanging with friends.

Make sure that it is your phone and not the app or game you're playing that is faulty.

Full brightness screen flicker

Recently I have been noticing vertical lines/interference when viewing a mostly white screen while on full brightness. Is this a sign my epic needs a visit to the repair shop?

I have the same issue, it happens a lot when I'm using the browser.
Sounds like screen burn in, a fairly well known issue.
Is that covered by the warranty cause the screen gets super hot as well I can't imagine what its doing to my battery life

If it was screen burn in you would get those lines all the time.

That's odd I don't remember it ever happening before recently oh well its still bright as hell on low anyways but it will suck outside as that's the only time I up my brightness I wonder if its a power issue with the cpu as it only happens most during processing market or web pages

This is an engineering flaw. When the voltage from the battery drops, when it is not fully charged, and the screen brightness is at maximum, and the screen has a lot of white pixels drawing power, the display controller loses power, and has trouble with sync.
The battery will also drain slowly, when the brightness is set at max, even when plugged in and supposedly charging. This is even more critical on USB charging.
These problems are hidden most of the time, with the Display/Power saving mode, and dimmer screen settings.
It seems the full brightness is not properly designed and powered, and this is a shame, because it really makes the Epic 4G's display stand out.

Lol! I just had this problem crop up on me today for the first time, and I thanked this guy because he described it exactly, low battery and all, but it was his one and only post from a year ago. Well, still, thanks. I hope you read this someday.

camera flash activating when shutting down

Hello,
Today when I restarted my phone, it got stuck on the "Goodbye" screen for longer than normal, then flashed the camera 3 times before shutting off. What is going on? Anyone have a similar issue? I am on stock, rooted.
Thanks

Is it really worth it to replace my phone for this? It has only happened once over 5 months. How much did it happen to you? Does it signal something wrong with the phone if it has just happened once?
If it doesn't mean that something is wrong with my phone, I wouldn't really want to go through the hassle of a return :\

Lol really? ..jeez some of you complain about everything and anything.

Anyone can replicate this. While your phone is on, hold power/Vol up/Vol down all at the same time for about 10 seconds. That forces a reboot and your camera will flash until you let go.

SAMOLED burn-in - anyone else had warranty issues?

I've sent my Galaxy Nexus off for screen replacement twice now - both times, the Samsung UK repair centre in Norwich has said there is no fault found.
It's really not that hard to miss - I have a large area of different colours where the navigation bar lives compared to the rest of the screen. It makes landscape video watching quote annoying.
Has anyone else had problems getting out replaced? Mine was just 11 months old when I first sent it off, back in March. This time around, it was marked as repaired and awaiting delivery on the 10th April - I called today to find out what's happening with it, only to be told it was still on the premises.
Not really the service standards I'd hoped for - the handset was over £500 when I got it.

burn in is normal. this has been beaten into the ground already.
use the search.
I know it happens, though I'd hoped using the pentile display would've eliminated the problems they had with the Galaxy S and S2. My question was has anyone else had issues getting the display swapped when under a year old?
I think at this age, it's a premature failure. Am I mistaken?
Thanks,
Rich

Are you using the damn thing as a nightlight/desk clock while you sleep at night???! Do NOT leave the screen on for more than 10min MAX with a static output. Be smart about this man.

No, far from it. Screen is always set to automatic brightness, with 30 second time-out. It's never been left on overnight, used as a sat-nav, or streamed vast amounts of TV or anything like that.
This is why I'm so annoyed - I don't mistreat it. And a phone of this calibre should remain defect-free for longer than 11 months, surely...

This. It happens. I never leave my screen on for more than 2 minutes, unless I'm watching a video, which then the status bar and navbar are hidden.
So it just happens, unfortunately.
Mine doesn't burn-in.but there are two brighter lines than other areas ,at the top and bottom of the screen.

orange blotch (bleeding?) when hot

so when my phone gets hot and i go into an app that has a white background, i.e. play store, i get a couple of light orange blotches that appear to be pixel bleeding of some sort. when i cool it down, i.e. put it in the fridge or freezer, it goes away. Does anyone else have this issue? any ideas whats causing it? im pretty sure it didn't happen until i switched from lifeless to aosp. but i think the only reason it didn't happen on lifeless was because my phone didn't get this hot
Could be the color saturation issues with AOSP. I know my screen had an orangeish tint when it got hot on AOSP but not on stock.

High pitch rattling during vibration. Normal?

Hey guys, I'm having an issue where when the phone vibrates, there is a high frequency rattle that comes with it. I am wondering if this is just the nature of the phone or theres something wrong with it. Care to share anybody?

That's fortunate for you. I plan on keeping mine for awhile though.
I feel it might be on all devices. When I shake the device, I can hear, I think, the auto focus shaking. The rattling might be a product of the auto focus shaking with the phone which is okay with me. I just dont want it to be loose pieces bouncing around in my phone.
