[REQUEST] 6.2.2 is out - BURRITOROOT seems not to work anymore - Kindle Fire Android Development

as the title says ...
kfu says "adbd cannot run in production builds"
burritoroot and superuser was deleted before trying again with kfu
6.2.2 update amazon:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/kindle-fire-updates/update-kindle-6.2.2_D01E_3205220.bin

Confirmed, now adb root access and recovery are nuked.
Edit:
I've been talking to jcase via irc, and he'll be releasing an updated Burrito Root shortly.

Wow. This is getting quite annoying.
And there is still no way to block OTA updates, unless you install CM7?

there are ways:
you could try:

or
unregister at amazon
or
disable wifi

Wow, after two weeks of constantly reading posts and watching videos I finally got the courage to install TWRP and flash CM7 last night. Timing could not have been better. Will now need to wait until an updated stock Rom hits the forums before considering going back. Unless anyone can confirm that that any of the current stock based Roms survived or how that OTA app worked out this time around? I think they are just shooting themselves in the foot with this block all Root attitude they have going. I would have been perfectly happy with the buy everything you will ever need from us device as long as it didn’t stop me from running apps I know the system can run but you have chosen not to allow me to run software on my own device as I assumed I had voided my warranty out the box, actually before I ordered it. Anyhow I have no beef with CM7 as it’s much preferred. I’m just going to port over as much as is available like Silk & Keyboard just so it still has some of the uniqueness of being a Kindle. I guess I lucked out that before I ever knew about Root that I bought a device with an unlocked boot loader and had Sudo installed on the stock Rom. Hell of a rant, Piece!
Edit: wow was I ever in a bad mood when I made this post. All is good now but for a second I was about to ask the developer who was working on porting the stock launcher if he could put together a version that links the top links to the corisponding area inside the Google Market and take Amazon entirely out of the picture.

patience young jedi

It won't be long, jcase is releasing an updated Burrito Root soon.

BurritoRoot rises again,

Rooted, didn't do OTA update, Can I stop the nagging?

I figured I'd start a post for this since some people probably don't want to update after doing the root process, or maybe it would break root.
Is there a way to delete the OTA update off your phone and stop it from downloading it again and nagging you to update?
you could always root after updating since it obviously doesn't stop you from rooting

I know, but I had a hell of a time getting done so I don't want to go though it again. It took a long time to get adb running in recovery, after that it was cake.
Think I found it, did its like the droid. Dunno if it will stop the updates yet, but still need to find the file it downloaded.
Went to
/system/etc/security/
renamed otacerts.zip to otacerts.bak
Anyone install the OTA update after doing root? Did it break it?
I would do it but, I already done this twice now and it was hard as hell to get shell in recovery
Damn whenever I reboot it goes back to .zip

Unfortunately, even if it stuck, renaming otacerts.zip causes horrible battery life. It will continuously download the update, over, and over. It will download it, check the certs to see if its good. See its bad, go again, and again...

Will it kill my root, I got superuser.apk installed already and that functions properly, will the OTA mess up anything?
don't know. I don't know anyone else that is doing what you are doing.
Re-rooting isn't that hard. I've done it 10-12 times before there was a way to make it stick. Just a little typing assuming you get access.
Chances are you may re-root again anyways as they come out with better packages to do it.

I'm not rooted yet so I can't say for certain, but you can almost certainly shut down auto-OTA check by editing the build.prop and or userinit.sh in /system. Those two files control most of the automation on your Droid! Good luck, and if I helped you, send me a 16gig SDcard so I can root too
i just deleted the otacerts.zip in /system/etc/security/ and now it says my system is up to day in about phone.
I can confirm that running the OTA after rooting will temporarily break root. You *will* have to redo the adb in recovery > payload before your root apps or superuser.apk will work again.
The good news is that you *can* simply redo it. No big deal once you are comfortable getting into adb in recovery.

Still not sure why you went this way.
Unless you installed Superuser recently, you don't have that much "root" and will need to do it all over eventually again anyways.
It would be a lot simpler, if you did the OTA first, then re-root your phone using the newer instructions which give you a more rooted SAFER setup.
If you didn't do the newer Superuser, you now have a potentially vulnerable phone that an app can exploit because they can do su and not need approval first.

I tried rooting my phone since the day root was achieved using a few different sd cards I have and failed every time. Last night I decided to downgrade and got my phone rooted on the first try. I'm no noob. I've established ADB on my HTC Vogue which is a WinMo phone running Android, I've rooted a My Touch 3G and a Hero but until I downgraded my phone I couldn't get root. At least not with my sd cards so for me running the OTA then rooting is just not an option. I will just deal with it until NAND write access is achieved.

Some of us are not able to easily get into adb shell, often taking days of trying (hundreds of reboots). I was finally able to get in, and don't ever want to have to do it again. I have wifi tether working, and that is plenty for me until they come up with an easier way to get into adb shell in recovery. I am assuming this guy is in the same boat (as far as how hard it is to get into adb shell).
It won't matter soon. Wait until the Unrevoked custom recovery comes out in a few days and then you can find a nice custom rom that won't bug you.

Doesn't matter now. You should be able to start flashing ROMs soon with the Recovery Reflash tool from Unrevoked http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
Those Unrevoked guys are really hooking us up
I too had an incredibly hard time getting into the shell... I finally down graded, was able to get in (I don't' think that got me in, as it all ended up in being timing that I just had to get).
anyways, i've now installed the unrevoked recovery tool and updated to the latest clockwork via rom manager.
Anyways... that nag screen is getting old, so which rom are people installing on their systems that's getting rid of the nag / is an updated one?
I do NOT want to have to go through the root process again, what a pain it was for me...

I'm Rooted, now what?

So, a Huge thanks to all those who worked on the method to get 2.2 rooted. I followed the directions and I am here, rooted. I used the Amon_Ra for my recovery back to 2.2. Now, this might be a stupid question, but What now? My phone looks the same, and I still can't remove sprint stuff. What are the next steps, I know i can install a custom "higher speed ROM", but can i just work from where i am now? I have the Superuser icon, but when i open it, i get "no apps in list" ? what do i need to install to start taking advantage of all that rooting has to offer?
Thanks for your replies!!

Choose a new fancy ROM, download it to your SD card and use Amon to flash it. Easy as pie.
They are many great ROMs from many great developers here. Everyone has their preferences, mine is Fresh. I've never been dissapointed.
Agreed.....I can tell a big difference in speed and battery life but now what? I also can't delete any of the Sprint bloatware and I am on Baked Sense 1.6.
I don't understand: Why would you root your phone if you don't even know what it does? Not trying to be a ****; I'm just saying.
Firstly, if you rooted, all you did was revert your phone back to 2.1 so you no longer have Froyo. (edit: nevermind.....I see you want back to 2.2; I'm guessing you flashed a 2.2 stock rooted rom to your phone). The superuser app is empty because it hasn't given superuser permission to any apps that require it. If you want to see your superuser app in action, download ShootMe or screenshot from the market, and you will see the app asks for superuser permission.
I rooted my phone because I thought it was ridiculous to pay Sprint $30 a month to use the wireless tether option that was built into the Evo by HTC and which I already paid for when I purchased the phone. Now I use my root privileges to do a lot more, but my point is that I had a reason to root my phone to begin with. Download wireless tether and try it.
If you want to uninstall apps, download Titanium Back up (that's what I use anyway) and go to town removing stuff. I am not sure if the free version removes apps or not because I got the paid one from the beginning, but now that you are rooted, it is well worth the price for the premium license. You can use this app to move stuff to your SD card and free up your phone's internal memory, too. You can also back up all your apps and system data which is handy when you flash from one rom to another and you have to do a full wipe of your phone.

Some of the ROMs have all that stuff removed for you, such as Fresh.
First thing to do: Head over to the developer forum and flash Netarchy's kernel, which will uncap your FPS. Do it ASAP, DO IT NAO!!!!1!!1!1!eleven. Then come back here and tell us how amazing it is.
thanks for the input
Thanks for all the replies! Rugedraw - i especially appreciate your indepth answer despite the fact that you are clearly somewhat annoyed by the question.
Here's the thing. The android revolution is ongoing and picking up steam. and i could talk about that all day long. Opensource, kick blackberry in the berry, and send apple back to where it was after its huge popularity boom in the 90s - struggling to overcome its fatal closed system flaw. Beyond that, I bought my Evo for 2 reasons. My 16 month son threw my blackberry into the toilet (nice work - i now appreciate it), and my tech guy at work has been raving about his rooted Droid x2. as of 10 days ago it didn't seem possible to root the 2.2 froyo, but he told be to be on the lookout. I figured this is a little like an arms race and that the sooner i rooted my phone when the method was avail. the better. (tech guy is in italy with his fiancee right now, or i would be asking him all these questions)
Soooo, it seemed to me, that in the spirit of owning an opensource device and joining the android revolution, that i should root my phone and unlock all the magic.
I'm no computer programming whiz, i dont write code, and i learned all of the terminology on this board in the last 2 days. So lost, but learning fast.
I did not root my phone for no reason. I clearly understand the utility of having superuser status (besides, most guys are wired to want that kinda thing regardless) - deleting annoying sprint apps that chew power, "re-tuning" the device to run more efficiently, and of course, free wifi tethering.
But, after completing the most excellent root method described in this forum, i found myself staring at a rooted 2.2 and wondering what the next step was. There are NO google results for "i've rooted my evo 4, now what?" so thats why i started this thread, figuring that I was not the only one in my situation
THAT enormously long winded explanation complete, I would love to aggregate the appropriate options in this thread. Method to wipe, list of Flash Roms for a rooted 2.2 EVO.
Again, thanks for all the replies,
btw what does "uncap your FPS" mean?
If you did unrevoked then I would flash the latest Amon-RA recovery image. No offense to clockworkmod, amon is just my preference.
Poke around the recovery console and learn how it works.
NAND FIRST!! haha, develop that habit before you flash anything (roms, kernels, etc.), just in case
-Flash a rom that suits your needs. Read their OP's and threads to learn what they are about and what the people that use them think. I would suggest you just flash the stock rooted 2.2, play with it for a week or two to see how root works and explore what you can do with it. Also look into backup methods so you are familiar with how to preserve your stuff when you flash a different rom.
FPS = frames per second. There are kernels that will lift the 30fps cap.
Read about kernels and how to take advantage of them.
I know I've been pretty general, just pick a trail and start walking, when you have questions ask em
I like your logic of titling the thread exactly what you searched for, usin yer brains to make this thread more beneficial to the next guy (imagine a thumbs-up smiley here)

It is highly recommended that you do what he says! You'll see a major improvement in lots of areas. In case you're curious here is my setup: STOCK 2.2 w/ Netarchy kernal. I chose the stock 2.2 so that I may do with it what I like. It's very fast and very stable.

You can remove Sprint stuff, just have to spend some time and learn to use ADB. Rooting an EVO is not the same as rooting an iPhone, you can pretty much do everything you can from rooting an iPhone without even rooting Android so the difference is not that great.
Most of what you gain from rooting Android is being able to do things the carrier doesn't wan't you to do such as install free wifi tethering, remove their apps etc... You can also install others roms where they have already done this stuff for you but from what I have seen on the EVO and 2.2 battery life suffers greatly on pretty much any rom other than stock rooted so there is a lot to be gained from learning adb and just working with the stock rooted rom to remove the apps you wan't to.
I'm in the same boat. I got my new EVO on Tuesday, it was rooted an hour later. Why? Because that's how we do things! First thing for me it was important to have tethering. Work blocks damned near everything. As I learn more about the Android system I'll get more use out of root.
I was carefully paying attention to the thread and particularly bluehaze's answer. I'd like to learn more about using adb to remove sprint crap. That amazon app is always restarting itself. If there an ADB for newbs guide around here anywhere? I looked but didn't see.
There are a few things that I use which make root a necessity.
- custom ROMs provide a setup more tailored to what you are personally looking for
- using wireless tethering without being artificially limited to Sprint's commercial offering
- backups! I can boot into recovery and make a backup image of my setup at any point. That way no matter what settings I change or what ROMs I test out, I can always go right back to my stable daily driver in 5 minutes if needed.
- custom recovery and superuser allow you to install things, uninstall things, theme things, etc. Nothing worse than not being able to change something on my own device
- speed, battery, etc. via tweaked kernels. I'm using Baked Snack's ROM and kernel now and it's way faster and nicer on battery than stock
nOObs need love too

[Q] Question/idea about getting root on stock Incredible with the OTA update.

So, I just got my DInc a few days ago and they did the OTA update at the store while setting up my phone. After 4 days of searching and trying to downgrade, I think I may have found, or figured out a way to downgrade to stock 2.2 without having s=off.
First thing is, the 2nd video on this thread shows how to downgrade if you did the unofficial OTA update, and provides a link for the files. Basically it seems to be a way to downgrade the hboot.
My question is this....if I was to follow that guide and do the down grade that way, would it be possible to the update zip from here, or use the one from this forum here, without basically bricking the phone?
I've rooted my fiances Droid 2 without any problems, and I've done a great deal of console modding and checking out firmware in computers and consoles and from what I gather, it seems that this would work in downgrading from the OTA update and being able to get root and not have problems. My problem is that I don't know much about the DInc enough to try it without an input from people that do know.
Any thoughts or ideas? Or anyone willing to try it and let me know? lol
Sorry for the outside links, but I couldn't find all the info on the forums here.
Unrevoked should have a solution to rooting the OTA ready for release within the next day or two. I'd wait for that rather than trying other untested methods.
That's possible, but then again, they may not be having any luck, or might come up with a similar mehod. Nothing is ever tested on the first try lol.
Im hoping someone else has either tried this, or knows enough about it to say if it will work or not. If I can get my phone rooted this way and not have to wait for Unrevoked to do it, that's ok with me lol.
It would work if you had an s-off hboot but I believe this method was already proven not to work with the s-on hboot as it doesn't allow downgrading. You'll get a message similar to "newer version found on device" or something to that effect.
Edit: The video in the link says you have to already be rooted to do this so no it won't work.
Not the first video, the 2nd one. Where it uses the sdk to push the files through.

Can I please get some basic Dev info?

Hi Guys. I took advantage of the amazon deal (Fire phone + prime for $159) today and basically just want to make sure the rooting/unlocking methods are up to date and safe. I've got 2 rooted aftvs and a stick plus a KFHD7 running CM 12.1--been an aftv user since just after it's release. For those that don't know, amazon took a pretty hard stand there--breaking root and really scared some people with efuse (malicious software). I had no issues but over the past 9 months have read MANY accounts of people bricking their devices.
But this is a phone so maybe amazon is a bit more open minded toward development? I guess to start...
1. Is firmware a factor at all in terms of rooting?
2. Has amazon broken root with updates?
3. I notice the CM 11 thread lists "safestrap" as a prerequisite--is there another recovery available like CWM or TWRP?
Sorry for the noobish questions. Really I just want to know I can dig into the guides when my phone arrives without needing to worry about something going horribly wrong, other than usual risks people take when modifying software. Thanks. Looking forward to this!
***Sorry I just realized this should be in Q & A and after looking around a bit I realize most of my questions have already been answered (I overestimated development). So maybe someone can answer this--with fire tv we block the amazon domains before turning on the device for the first time so it has trouble updating AND it WILL update right to the latest firmware. That's what I plan on doing here. Actually I already have but feels like I'm way to late to the game here. Is it possible I'll receive a phone with lower firmware? They probably did have a lot of overstock but this has had several updates since then. Well unless you have any tips I think I'm pretty much caught up. Sorry and mods can move this to Q & A or even delete it.

it's possible but you want the latest unlocked (i believe international) update available anyway. the version available before this was not even rootable. this is probably one of the few times you want to grab the latest update when you get your phone. always good to check though.

Just bought a fresh (unopened) Fire TV from November 2014 - how to approach?

Hey guys,
I never thought it could happen but I got my hands on an unboxed Fire TV from November 2014. (as the seller said it was preordered.. so it should have a very old firmware on it).
I'd like to root, bootloader unlock and put custom recovery on it, anything I have to avoid except not allowing the thing to OTA update?
And how can I get root the fastest and the most risk-free way? Block ota through router and then put towelroot on it asap I guess?

Check out the aftvnews.com web site, it has all answers to your questions.
No need to rush anything if you block updates on your router. Just follow AFTVnews.com/start and it will guide you through the whole process. The most important thing is getting through the initial setup without updating. The guide will walk you through that as well. Just select "no" when asked if you've completed the initial setup.

No, there is no root method for the Fire TV 2. (The gaming edition is exactly the same as the non-gaming edition.)
Staying on as old of a software version as you can is your best bet to ensure compatibility with a possible future rooting method. However, the Fire TV 2 has a lot of bugs, so you'll probably want to take the next 1 or 2 updates. See here for how to block updates.
somehow all my routers (and I tested a couple) dont really block the urls given on atvnews.com.
At least I can still ping them .. not sure if they block the updates though.
So how can I prevent updating when not sure if the urls are actually blocked? I read somewhere that I would have to pull the network cable at certain points and reinsert it later, can someone point me to where I find the info about that method? Thanks

Try downloading this file with your PC: http://amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuit...ueller-ota-51.1.6.3_user_516012020-signed.bin
If you can't download it, then your blocks are working.
Your other best option to block updates is to use OpenDNS.

You need a eMMc-Adapter or a person who had one. To root your device.
If you lived in germany I can help you.
A good guide is this one here -> http://solderwiresandplastic.com/
Or read this book here : [GUIDE] Hardware root via emmc chip (requires soldering!)
But pls keep your device on this fw!
