[Q] Enable Link2SD or A2SD? - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

Anyone know how to enable and install Link2SD or DT's A2SD on a stock rom? I know Darkshado's method, when you need to flash simpligio without the modem. But is there a way without flashing another rom? I'm also aware of enabling of enabling A2SD for the Galaxy Ace but if I try this on my Gio, will it be safe??? Please help. Thanks for your time!

Hi,
I'm using stock froyo 2.2.1 (S5660DXKC3), rooted and using link2sd.
It very easy to install the link2sd. i suggest using class 10 microsd. Here is the step:
1. Using a PC/laptop, create 2 partition in microsd, 1st is fat32, 2nd is ext2. Set both are primary partition. i use the partition wizard home edition (is free)
2. Set the 2nd partition size not more than 1 Gb, i heard that it will cause an error if more than 1 Gb. Mine are set to 0.8 Gb.
3. Root your phone, i'm using super one click
4. Install link2sd from market
5. Insert your microsd to your phone
6. Start link2sd, it will ask for the 2nd partition. pick the ext2
7. Reboot/restart your phone

If you want to use A2sd on stock rom, use must use modified boot.img. A2sd can't work on standard boot.img (CMIIW)

And use custom kernel

To enable link2SD or a2SD on 2.2 it is very easy.but on gingerbread, you need to flash a custom kernel(such as phiexz's kernel),because of the kernel doesn't support init.d script.

Use a SD card reader!! Not from your phone!! Also you need custom kernel.
Ok first partition your SD card. Use the program call MiniTool Partition Wizard. This is on your PC. There are guides all over the web for this but I'll sum it up for youse. Make a SD-EXT with the options > Primary > Ext4 > 4Kb Cluster size
Download Darktremor's A2SD and put in the root of your SDcard. Once done plug SD back to phone. Make sure phone is off. Enter recovery and find the a2sd zip and flash. Reboot the phone and it will bootloop for maybe 2 times. Then it should have installed a2sd correctly!!
Hope this helps

merci! I DO indeed have a custom kernel (ArpegGioMod ftw) but I bit the bullet and installed Link2SD, and it seems to be performing okay.. slightly sluggish fps with Mupen64, but nothing a little OC can't fix. lol

Just for your information, you don't need to have a custom kernel for Link2SD.
I'm using it with 2 primary fat partitions on (rooted) stock 2.3.4.
And It's working like a charm.

Has anyone noticed that on a reboot link2sd starts to relink apps and sometimes some apps are removed from the phone. I have always experienced this and I have reinstalled link2sd many times, but the problem still persists.

help with SD card ext partitions/app2sd

Guys, I'm running DJ Droid on mine, odexed, and I've enough space given I'm using Froyo's native apps on SD option using setinstalllocation on DJ Droid.
I want to try another ROM but most are deodexed and so seem to need app2sd.
I've never used this - if I use ROM Manager from my current ROM then I can partition up to 512MB ext size, and specify swap (0?) - is this enough?
Once I've partitioned the SD card, then how do I make use of it? Does it only work when you first flash an app2sd-supporting ROM on it - i.e. the ROM notices the ext partition and automatically makes use of it? Could someone help me out here? I have searched but am struggling...
Thanks
Ric
it automatically does the job when you flash the rom with the a2sd+....just have the sdcard with ext partition inserted and it will do it all on its own

So if I partition the SD card (usign ROM manager) and reboot without reflashing ROM nothing will happen, but when I next flash using a new ROM like the Neophyte one it will automagically start using app2sd without any intervention on my part? Apologies for confusion but the process seems to have evolved pretty quickly and so a lot of guides are a bit out of date...
Also, seen note of ext2 and ext3 partitions?
Thanks

I have already flushed the ROM and now i want to wipe and use the app2sd is it possible without flushing new ROM ?
Or i can flush the same ROM again after wipe the SD card ?

If your rom has a2sd AND you have your sd card partitioned, then you should be using it automatically.

Once you've flashed a ROM of your choice, download Quick System Info from the Market, this will tell you if your A2SD is working. For example, mine says A2SD storage - Total: 473mb, Free: 255mb.
Partition problem SD card with Rom Manager
Hi guys
Thanks for the replies, but currently now i have the issue with the partition the SD card.
I am using the ROM Manager to wipe the SD, (512, swap=0).
The device is rebooted with red question mark and boots again to regular state and actually nothing happens.
Thanks for assistance.

Ok maybe i don't understand something
But i flushed the Leo ROM 2.0C without wiping my SD card and i didn't partition the SD card to ext2/3/4. During the flush of the ROM i got notification that the ext partitions weren't found so the app2sd+ will not be installed.
So the situation now is what i have the device with flushed rom but without the app2sd+ .
In Quick system Information i see A2SD : Information not available.
I would like to have the app2sd+ working, like i understand in order to do this i need to wipe the SD card and partition it properly -> this is the problem i can't do it with Rom Manager, because it's boot with Red question mark, after 3 sec boot again into regular device state without any changes.
If i success in wipe the SD then i can flush the new ROM which will install the app2sd+ properly.
Thanks for the assistance.

I guess your ROM doesn't install a2sd when no ext partition is found at install time. Reflash it, and it should detect stuff properly.

I tried to reflash the rom but it's the same.
I have only the option to move the app to the SD card Applications -> Manage Applications -> Move to SD.
In additional i have checked some replies which still telling to use the Rom Manager (for me it's not exactly working -> red question mark).
In additional i saw some places where it says go to recovery -> partition SD ext2/swap. I don't have this option in the recovery.
Still don't have idea how to partition my SD.
Thanks

Well, then you have probably partitioned your card wrong. Try GParted, and make sure that the ext partition goes AFTER the fat one.

[Q] Can't use App2SD+ with CM7

I've used the new CM7 stable for 1 day, everything's fine except I can't use the A2SD+, after I flash the rom & gapps, the internal memory is 11x MB free/ 148 MB total.
This is my first time flashing a mod rom, so maybe I did sth wrong when I flash it, plz help me to check the procedure, thx
My phone is: SHIP PVT1 S-OFF(by alpharev)
HBOOT 0.93.0001
1, I root my phone with Unrevoked 3.32 from unrevoked.com
2, S-OFF with Alpharev 1.8 from alpharev.nl (burning a bootable CD)
3, Before flash the rom, I partitoned the sdcard (Kingston 8GB) with sd-ext 1024 MB, swap 0 MB, then wipe all things I can with the recovery that Unrevoked gave to me, and factory reset, then flash the rom by select .zip file from sdcard
4, Boot into CM7 then turn off, and boot again to flash the gapps
that's what I did, but after all, my internal memory still decrease when I install any programs, and the sd-ext directory is empty when I check it by Root Explorer
Are there something wrong?
BIG THANKS!
Use s2e app in market. Enjoy.

I heard that if the SD card has ext partition, the A2SD+ will automatically enable after flashing CM7. Should I have to install a program to enable it? or is there some setting I should do in the CM setting? thx

As far as I know, CM is no longer officially supporting apps2sd on ext partition (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Apps2SD).
I'm using CM7 with Darktremor apps2sd - woks just fine
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715940
Simple2EXT is on the Android market. That works.
But once you enable the options, you have to restart and wait a while for the things to move around here and there. After doing so, your phone will function normally.
I haven't used any other scripts because this did the trick for me. Just make sure you have an adequately-sized EXT partition.

THX, I wonder why they disable the support of app2ext in CM7, it's such a nice function to save the internal mamory..
the Darktremor installation seems a little bit complicated, I'll try it later, now I'm using S2E and it's easy to setup

Apps 2 SD problems for Sandvold's ICS

I installed ICS for Desire (Sandvold version) and A2SD script. Everything working fine with the ROM (except for known issues), but the a2sd script gave me very little free space. The apps from PlayStore downloads very slow and I get "low memory space" errors too soon .
I'm using: Stock HBOOT, Amon Ra Recovery, 1GB ext4 for sd-ext, 0GB swap. S-ON.
8GB SDHC Class 4
The Apps 2 SD scripts in GB ROMs works fine for me, but no in ICS.
Could a Class 10 Micro SD solve my problem?
Does anyone know how to solve storage problems in ICS?
Yes, solution is to install GB...

If you chose "STOCK A2SD" in the installation. Then, you need to mount the A2SD "manually"
I mean to activate the the built in a2sd as follow:
open terminal and run these commands:
su
a2sd install
To move dalvik cache do:
a2sd cachesd
Recommended way to answer Y N Y

I format my SD card using AmonRa Recovery.
I asked about class 10 microSD because I read Amarullz script works better with it (I only used stock a2sd script), I wonder if my problem could be solved using amarullz script with class 10 SD, or am I mistaken?
First I suggest you to repartition your sd using 4ext recovery.
I have a class 10 transcend 16gb sd card and Amarullz script worked perfectly for me (while I was using it).
Just install m2sd from zero-cool and it works good. Scripts from this link works good http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124

Hi ronin_85. I have exactly the same configuration as you do and I was happy when I managed it to work after several attempts. (I added S-OFF via revolutionary yesterday, but it will not make a difference I guess). This is what finally worked for me - I partitioned my card also with Amon RA Recovery - 1 GB ext 4, 0 SWAP, rest FAT32. I did a full wipe and flashed Sandvold's BETA 0.17.1. During flash I chose "Stock A2SD". After the reboot I did not fill in Google data (I skipped the step) because I did not want it to start installing (restoring) my apps by itself. I went to terminal, used the commands mentioned above with the combination Y N Y (I tried several combinations but only this one worked correctly). After that I rebooted my phone one more time and started to set up the rest of things... Right now I can say that so far it seems to be finally working for me. I have several applications installed and free memory still holds almost full :victory:.
Try out the INT2SD script from the Aroma installer. It gives you more space than the stock A2SD

Can't boot 2nd time into any ROM

Doesn't matter what custom ROM I use, after the installation they all work until I restart the phone again (I restart the phone after clean ROM installation to see if it will boot, and it never does). After flashing any ROM I flash CronMod INT2Ext4, I have 512MB sd-ext (8GB SD Card). Can anyone help me with this? I would be thankfull.

Why would you flash INT2EXT4 on any ROM that you flash? By the way, do you delete the already existing a2sd scripts from the ROM before flashing INT2EXT4?

try flashing the rom without flashing INT2EXT4. Most roms have built in a2sd scripts, which allow you to move apps to an sd ext partition.
Also, how did you create the partition, best done with 4ext recovery or gparted.
512MB is also quite small, might want to consider 1-1.5GB.
As above, just flash Rom without another a2sd script as most have them built in or activate with terminal commands, check each thread. Which Rom are you using?

making the partition using cwm may have been your problem. Use this guide to remake the partition. Im assuming you want to use VJ's CM10.1 ROM. If this is the case, there is no need to use INT2EXT4. Instead use the preinstalled a2sd script.
After flashing the rom, you can activate a2sd by doing the following:
Open terminal emulator provided in the rom.
Type the following commands
su
a2sd install
Y
N

Ok, thank you, now just one more thing. I have to remove the previous sd-ext partition and I can't do that on PC cause disk managment doesn't recognize it, it shows 6.87GB free, I think it should be about 7.3GB cause its 8GB SD. Can EXT4 recovery do that or should I find some program on PC?

In 4ext, there is an option to "Remove all partitions and start from scratch". Im guessing that deletes/wipes your fat32 partition as well, so back your files up.
If you want to delete it without the fat32 being formated too, you can use gparted. But thats a bit time consuming and a hassle.

Int2ext ect,, do any work properly?

hi all,
the main reason for me unlocking my arc s was to mount an ext4 partition so there was no more agro with running out of internal ram.
ive tried various roms with various kernals and various scripts, the closest i got to one working was latest vengeance + latest viper + int2ext4+
but it kept lagging on video and internet..
i really liked viper but hdmi missing so waiting or 6.5....
ive just put lupusv16 + UHD4 + UHD mod and it is very impressive, the screen is better almost as stock with bravia2, hdmi very good and camera also very good, the question is which script definatly works properly with this setup? i dont want to move swap to int, just link ext4 on sd to int ram ??
cheers

Hi,
i plugged my 8gb sd card into my laptop and wiped it, then created a 6gb fat 32 partition, a 1.7gb ext4 partition & the remainder about 300mb as swap. then mounted fat copied hd4 rom, hd4 mod and int2ext to it. then into phone, booted to recovery, installed rom as per thread, rebooted phone, left it 20 mins, booted to recovery, flashed hd4 mod, rebooted phone, left for 20 mins, booted to recovery, installed int2ext script. rebooted phone, then it hangs on boot..
from what ive seen the int2ext scripts are difficult to get working correctly with no lag, fc's ect.
cheers
barkx
First of you are on ICS 4.0.4/stock fw 0587 aren't you.
Cos lupus kernel ver16 is for ICS.
Like what angel said both has got to be primary.
Your 6gb/primary/Fat32
Your 1.6gb/primary/Ext4
You should delete link2sd,or any other CronMod extension versions from your sdcard before you flash the CronMod INTEXT2.
After done flashing go to mount n storage and format sd-ext.Reboot.
If everything goes well look in titanium backup or setting/storage.It will show the internal memory you just acquired.
If you get bootloop after that then wipe cache and delvic cache and reflash it again following the above procedure again.
But I don't think you'll come to that.If all requirements are met than its a piece of cake.
Try it again. And one more thing,it doesn't lag if not it only faster from my experience using it.
Tell us of the outcome.By the way clicking the thanks button would be sufficient enough to anyone who assist you in the future here on xda.
Cheers.

If everything goes well look in titanium backup or setting/storage.It will show the internal memory you just acquired.

thanks dude,
its working, i formatted it with recovery and it worked?, i then checked the partition on my laptop and it wasnt bootable but it still works?
i then deleted the ext4 partition on my laptop and repartitioned it and didnt make it bootable and the phone booted straight up working.
i did use int2ext+ this time and not int2ext
dont know why it didnt work before unless something had put a file on the partition?
anyway
cheers

Had you tried use an app for linking the ext rather than just install a script? I know that it's basically the same but still...
By the way, this is what i do, and its working:
0- Make a nandroid backup
1- Install Mini partition tool wizard
2- Clear the sd - Clic on apply
3- Create a new fat32 partition (13355 MB, 13GB) Default cluster and set as primary - apply
4- In the unnalocated space make the ext 4 partition (2GB - Journal) set as primary - apply
5- Copy the backup into the sd
6- format everything like when you install a new rom
7- restore
8- Download link2sd and select the ext partition
9- Reset
10- Move apps to it :/
My sd card is class 10 but honestly i dont feel so much difference with a class 4 :/

If not works, maybe you should try asking to jader coz he made the rom you use

Thanks for taking the time to reply
i re installed rom & mod again, tested game and it was fine, so its def the script, i used int2ext this time instead and it was slightly better as it leaves data on internal for speed so im going to leave it untill i get a class 10 card then try int2ext again.
cheers
