Wifi-Direct - LG Nitro HD

Ok so does anyone actually have Wifi-direct functioning? Anyone even try it? I have an HP printer in my truck (work from my truck in the oilfield) and my computer picks it up and prints to it no problem. My phone, however, scans for awhile but never finds it. Any thoughts/advice?

It's not an app, it's in your settings just below Wifi Settings.
Settings> Wireless and Networks> Wifi Direct Settings
I work in the oilfield and drive a Ford F-350 quad cab long bed. It's a boat of a truck. LOL It has dual batteries and a 3000watt inverter. The inverter has three outlets and then there's another box with two outlets in the front floor. I run my laptop, printer, two-way radio charger, etc off of it. Oh ya, there's another two-outlet box in the bed of the truck.
Anyway, I'd really like to be able to print from my Nitro via wifi-direct.

Oh rite, now u remind me of where I saw that. Well I can't help as of now since my wireless printer is not functioning. I'll try at work tomorrow and see what I can do.
A boat of a truck....I can only imagine lol!

The key is having a printer that does wifi-direct. If it's a network only printer I don't think it will work. Let me know if you have success though.

HTC Thunderbolt video out cable?

So I just got a new '11 Ford Explorer Limited and it includes a composite input. I was able to connect a camera and get it to display itself on the touchscreen so I was wondering if I can mirror the TB screen onto the touchscreen. Is there any cable available?
Sadly the TB has no TV out so no you cant.

I second that...
I'm not sure which sucks more, the lack of a video out, or the fact that the auto industry is about three generations behind on everything when it comes to consumer electronics... composite input eh? How handy, I guess I will connect my portable VCR to it... <sigh>
so with a certain app, this wouldnt work?

Yeah but with having a phone in hand/research, something could change. Search that.
Someone on another board says no....
forums.androidcentral.com/thunderbolt-accessories/79809-does-droid-incredible-micro-usb-rca-cable-work-thunderbolt.html
well it says Im not allowed to post hyperlinks on this board yet so you will have to piece that together but someone bought a cable to try it and:
"Nope, the cable can't be used with the Thunderbolt.
The micro-USB plug on the cable is non-standard in shape and contains two extra nubs that prevent it from being inserted into the TBolt.
It was worth a try."
One round-about option if you are determined to do this, is to utilize the "DLNA" capability of the TB. That is the "reason" there is no video, or even better, HDMI out on the TB.
You can buy this from HTC:
http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/35642/htc-dlna-bridge-gadget-tube
I imagine you could find other DLNA to composite video adapters out there, as well.

agreed. these cars should come with hdmi. and how about a capacitive touch screen. so annoying having to press down on the screen so hard. feels like my old wimo phone
You can only use it for media on the device. That is one reason for hdmi/compsite or whatever video capability. I want a video out to stream from netflix and or vulkano. This is part of the reason I may* jump to the bionic when it comes out.
It's cool that it has DLNA I guess if your TV supports it, but I think it was kind of a bad decision by HTC. First of all 99% of Thunderbolt owners probably don't even know the phone has it, most of them probably don't have DLNA capable TV's, and HTC's "media link" adapter for people who don't have DLNA TV's costs like $150. I would rather buy a $10 HDMI cable and be done with it.

Oh yeah, I think it's a bad decision too. also thinking about the bionic...

Ever try to pair up your bluetooth keyboard to your Epic 4G Touch? (It's Awesome!)

Was just reading a post on gizmodo about best wireless keyboards link here... and finally found good use to my lenovo bluetooth keyboard sitting in the closet... it paired up with my phone absolutely no problem, now I can take notes and type like never before...
Take that, tiny blackberry keyboard.
Done it with a Logitech Android Bluetooth keyboard and a Thermaltake Bluetooth mouse. Awaiting arrival of my MHL adapter so I can hook up to a spare monitor.
going to buy a asus, transformer prime for that!

I'm also tempted by this concept. I think there would be a transition period where I moved all of my media and everyday use to my phone (with a keyboard and mouse and full size monitor)...and I bet it would be rapid and I'd only keep my PC for the only thing anyone uses PCs for anymore: Content production.
The only time I *need* a PC is for work stuff: Photoshop, Vegas, excel. Also Audition and a few other pro audio apps out of work...and I'm sure the excel thing could be taken out the the equation pretty quickly.
Everything else? Media consumption, web browsers, communications, etc...all on the phone and/or tablet now. To be able to take my main computer with me would be fantastic...it would also make PocketCloud infinitely more useful on a full screen with a full desktop interface (kb/mouse/full screen).
This is going to happen. Between "the cloud" and our own smaller clouds (home networks, SAN/NAS/Home Servers, media sharing hardware, etc) keeping a quad core 300-500 watt behemoth around is getting less and less necessary.
The only grey area so far is 'games', but, most people consume those on game consoles so that's likely a moot point.
...an interesting time to be alive in many ways, technology especially.
Yeah I did this as well. I never could pair it to my original epic.

It provides its own WiFi network to which up to 3 devices can connect but also has an extra element that allows it to use a bridging mechanism to let your Kindle Fire be connected to the Internet and the Wi-Drive at the same time (not possible with the otherwise interesting AirStash with nice features of its own). You can be using media from the Wi-Drive while looking up something on the Net.
Besides adding storage to the Kindle Fire this way, 3 people can be wirelessly conected to it at the same time and be watching 3 different movies (or the same one) with what customer reviewers describe as smooth response. But it lasts only 3.5 to 4 hours per session, on the battery.
The sharing function is a real plus for families.

I've streamed original 1280 x 720 videoclips shot with a FlipMino HD from the Wi-Drive -- to a Kindle Fire, a Samsung S2 phone, and a Samsung Tab 10.1
They all streamed smoothly. But I don't have an iPad2.
It depends on how you do your file. I've seen now conversion software that is unstable on the intended device and which is not playable from the Wi-Drive and looks like it's torn apart on any of the 3 devices I mentioned.
Positive results came with DVD Catalyst 4 to downsize, and from Emicsoft's easy 'join'ing of mp4's.
I experimented with both the original videoclips and joined ones, which even if called 'lossless' changes something due to the resulting somewhat smaller file.
The FlipMino HD uses 60 frames per second.

The Nook Tablet has the SD slot and costs $50 more + the cost of a good SD card. (It also has better specs in total.)
The Wi-Drive can be shared by 3 devices at a time, accessing the same data or different data. Can't do that with an SD card, but it all depends on your need for that. Some are sharing it on trips, for kids in the back of the car.
But it still lasts only 3.5 to 4 hours tht way.
Someone else mentioned it acts as a hotspot. Actually, it doesn't serve Internet data. It just serves its own stored data. Other devices connect to the Wi-Drive as a sort of cloud and it provides the wireless access to itself -- but not to the Net.
It can, though, be used with a connected device while the latter accesses the Net. It uses some kind of bridging mechanism to do that.

Here's the good thing. You can use the Wi-Drive while it's plugged in. Doesn't matter if the battery's drained. People on vacation can use it in their hotel rooms that way.
I just did the setup to use the Wi-Drive and be on the Net at the same time. It's easier than I thought from reading it the first time. You just put the Wi-Drive on your WiFi network (using the Wi-Drive app on your Kindle Fire) and then the Wi-Drive reboots.
After it's done, and ready, you use the app on the KFire to connect with the Wi-Drive again and then check the Wi-Drive's network connections status and there's an icon that, if it shows up, means you're both on the Net, via the Wi-Drive and also able to access the Drive. The other ones I've read about don't do both at the same time...

Are you sure you can use it while it's charging? Did you actually try it?
The article states that you can not.
His caveats are that with two or more people using it at a time, constantly streaming, it runs for only 3 hours and then must be re-charged again and you cannot recharge this with the miniUSB adapter while using it. He doesn't say how long it lasts with one person using it.
That was actually one of the things that was turning me against it... would love to know if it's not true.
Though honestly, I will probably just wait for a stable ICS ROM that will, hopefully, by then have the usb host function working.

It turned out that the customer reviewer was wrong about not being able to charge it while accessing it. I've just replied to his review because I AM able to charge it while running a movie from the Wi-Drive. At home. With the power adapter that came with the unit. However, Kingston is clear that you cannot charge it and access it if you are using the USB cord with a computer. It has to be with the power adapter that comes with the unit or is Apple Certified.
The reviewer was describing not being able to charge it in his car once the battery was run down. I called Kingston tech support to find out if there was something different about its use with car adapters, and a Level 2 tech support rep said that it does charge it while you're using but the car adapter has to be up to a certain standard and the best thing to do is look for car adapters that are Apple Product Certified.
I haven't been able to test that yet though!
So anyone can confirm if we can use wi drive while charging with power. adapter?

It comes with its own charger. The chargers need to be at a standard, they said, which qualifies for 'Apple product qualified' ... The one that comes with it definitely works.
There's also a trick that's needed which I mentioned and the customer reviewer added to his updates. And that's to make sure it's off without the charger plugged in.
Turn it On w/o the charger plugged in. Then turn the Wi-Drive back On to let it get activated. At that point, plug in the power adapter .

[Q] Connect Epic Touch to iPhone compatible car stereo?

I just got jvc car stereo http://www.bestbuy.com/site/JVC+-+5...back/4005163.p?id=1218447374174&skuId=4005163 from best buy.

My question is: Do anyone know if there is an app or some type of usb adaptor that I can use to play my music on iphone usb accessories?Or any other method?
All these devices are iphone compatible but we android users(majority) are left in the dust for now, although they starting to support android but cost double the price.

Probably will work on my jvc,jvc and kenwood merged into one company so their stereos are almost identical. There is even jvc/kenwood app in the market that supposed to connect to kenwood receivers.
Im gonna try it tomorow and see if app and methods above work.
Most car stereos now come with an auxiliary port as well, you can play music from almost any device using an auxiliary cable.
WHat I'm looking for as a bluetooth-to-ipod-dock adaptor.
Sprint used to sell one on their website, but, I can't find anything about them anywhere. Everything takes a goddamned ipod dock. I want to get a new head unit for my truck but I refuse to pay the extra $150 for the bluetooth receiver when all I want is an am/fm radio with a blue-tooth input. screw wires.
Unless anyone knows a good $100-$150 head unit that comes with bluetooth and puts out 35-45w. Nothing fancy.

The Sony head unit I bought several months ago seems to fit that bill. You're checking Crutchfield.com right? That site is awesome for aftermarket car stereos. I think I paid $140 for the Sony XPLOD I bought with free shipping and the kit for my car included. I forget the watts, but it has Bluetooth and front USB and Aux ports. There's lots of other options around that price point from other manufactures as well.

I boycott Sony any chance I get, but, thanks for reminding me of Crutchfield. I haven't seen that name since I was a teenager and spent all of my money on my car stereo...for years, lol.
There are plenty of bluetooth options that at 14-20w, but, I think I still have an old MTX 25 watter around here that, when bridged down to 1ohm-stereo, will show those speakers who's boss.
Thanks again.
Ok so I got a Kenwood kdc-248u back about 6 months ago. At the time I was on T-mobile with my HD2 running a nice miui rom. I decided to plug my phone in to the usb port because guys like sticking things in things... Now it didn't give me track info, but it was playing what seemed like the files that were in my google music temp folder. Even lacking the track info (just showed a number) it was fantastic because I had my music on random while my phone was charging. The skip track and pause work too. I left T-mobile after the first time I was "capped" for using too much google music and at the slow speed nothing works. Hence coming to Sprint. BUT my Sammy no workie with stereo. Tried many methods including the above mentioned. I was waiting for the official release of ICS because I had read that google music and ICS are supposed to integrate better and offer usb support. But now I am running a FC14 rom and still no sign that my phone and stereo will speak the same language unless some the fine devs here decided to take up the challenge.. Cheers!!!

A possible alternative..?
I ran across a device called a Mimic while I was building a PC into my car that might be helpful. The Android version is still in development, but the idea is right on track.
As I understand it, any phone that can export video (may require micro-HDMI...) will be able to hook up to this and the touchscreen and car speakers will become the phone's display, control and sound output.
To keep the radio / CD function of the existing head unit, the screen will have to be mounted outside the dash or as a pop-out in the 2nd slot of a double-DIN dash.
Kinda pricey, to be sure, but it at least appears to be a step in the right direction...

I have been having constant connection issues with my phone for over a month. I have reflashed the correct doom kernel wifi modules for CDMA and that helps for anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 days then it acts up again. I have FTFd and reinstalled everything from scratch in hopes that helps... which it did but only for like a week. If I sit next to my router its top notch but go in the other room and its dropped to 2 bars and wont stay connected.
I used wire to the underside of the wifi sticker as a sudo antenna and it seemed to give me an extra 30-50 feet of range but after 2 days its abck again. So I took out the wire, and found the pdf I attached. I have confirmed by looking at my old old laptops wireless card antennas inside that they connectors are the same and if I take thge wifi antenna from my laptop and put it to the connect in the PDF it snaps in place but its too big to let me put the phone back together. So lets just say I have a wifi issue that doesnt seem to want to be fixed. And I am just really tired of fighting with it and running out of ideas.... scrathc that.. I have run out of ideas. I just dont know what to do. And my only choices for other kernels are Stock with overclock, but no recovery, or stock kernel with no overclock. I have never been able to get the CWM installer to work ever........ anyways sorry for the long reply just tired of this.....
