[Q] Defective Microphone- Have had Nitro Since Launch, Now I am Not So Sure - LG Nitro HD

Alright, this is very disconcerting, my faith in LG may be gone.
PREFACE:
I have had this phone since launch and have been on this forum since the day it was started. I have rooted, debloated, and changed launchers. I have no dislike for LG, so please do not call me a hater or a fanboy.
PROBLEM:
Starting a couple of days ago, during calls the person on the other end would only hear static and clicking. I finished the conversation through text. I called somebody else the next day and it worked fine. Today, I was talking to someone for about ten minutes then the static happened and I had to finish the conversation in text. Since the person I was talking to is a close family member I troubleshooted and kept calling them, and then a phone of one of one of my roommate's so that I could hear the problem first-hand. It sounds HORRIBLE. Since then I have used a voice recording app to test the problem.
TROUBLESHOOTING:
I have done the following to determine that this is indeed a hardware problem:
-Turned off all data
-Unlocked ALL "debloated" apps
-Restarted many times
-Put only the original battery in(I have two spare official batteries)
And the problem persists.
QUESTIONS:
-What should I expect will happen with the return/exchange process?
-My original battery has the pink water damage thing turned pink. This phone has never touched water, I think it happened because I have kept the battery in my wallet, which probably has gotten sweat on it. Will LG try to be a **** about this?
-Should I unroot and otherwise restore this phone to stock? If so, how do I do this?
-Is there anything else I should know?
-I need a phone to use, if I cut my SIM card to fit into my old iPhone 4, how will I get it back in?
Thank you, and if there is a possibility I could just return it I may. I LOVE this phone, but I have never had a microphone defect in any other phone I have ever owned. I am starting to wonder how such a large company like LG can allow something like this to happen, rightly so, I am very unsure of the longetivity and overall "completeness" of this phone.

The only other quick and easy thing I would suggest to narrow down the issue would be to try a wired or bluetooth headset.
It's pretty easy to find micro SIM adapters for sale online for 1 or 2 dollars.

I feel like I have some comforting responses to many of your concerns.
First of all, you should have a 1 year manufacturer's warranty against hardware defects. You should be covered.
They will most likely look for the water damage indicator on the battery, but if they are all official batteries then the store clerk won't know the difference. If it says LG on it then you're probably fine.
I saw an "unroot" option in SuperOneClick, but I cannot verify that it's functional for the Nitro. Yesterday was my first root ever. I would find a way to unroot it to be honest. Then do a hard reset and take it in.
As for the SIM going back to the iphone 4, it can be done. I just pulled my SIM and snapped a couple of pics to show you how to cut it and still use it. I didn't cut it myself, it was done by an ebay seller that reactivated my Unlimited Data plan and mailed me the card. He thought I had an iphone 4 so he cut it. I then told him I didn't have the iphone 4 so he set it back in and sent the whole card. It's worked in several phones since then.
I say if you love the Nitro then don't worry. AT&T should honor the manufacturer's 1 year warranty. I've never dealt with it so I don't know how they'll handle it, but they should take care of you.

Just a heads up, the battery is supposed to have pink + signs on it. When those bleed and the sticker is just an ugly mess of pink blotches, that's when it touched water. Not sure what yours looks like but I figured there may be a chance you are seeing the pink + signs and thinking you are screwed.

Thank you, what I was seeing was indeed the little pink crosses.
@gmkelly - thanks for the tip, I tried it out and my wired mic does work.
After unplugging the mic, I set it aside and when I checked again, the nitro's mic was working. I made a call and halfway through the issue started up again. Since then, I have replicated the issue multiple times using the recording app. The mic will work, and then usually stops working again after a few minutes of it being on, usually about 3.5 minutes. Thus the problem is intermittent, and I can replicate the problem for an AT&T rep.
What I really need to know is what to do about it being rooted.
EDIT: Dammit, I am having trouble replicating the problem now. Is there a chance that something in the headphone port is causing this. Ahh, I have a program to write for a C++ class and this is not a good time for this to be happening. Been recording now for 10 minutes and the mic is still working fine.
EDIT 2: Does anyone think showing a recording of the static to an AT&T rep be enough evidence? If anyone wants to hear some static you can get an earful here.

Oh btw, I recalled something an AT&T rep asked me when I was sending back the Atrix for an RMA. He didn't ask me to check the battery for water damage by looking at the pink crosses, he asked me to look for a white dot on the phone itself. The same white dot is on this phone. U can see it right above the middle screw to the right of the SD embossed sign. That white dot will change color (I forgot what color he said, maybe pink too) if the phone is water damaged.
I think nowadays the battery moisture indicator does not really apply anymore. At my job, we have tons of BB batteries that has indicators showing moisture damage but works perfectly fine. It's most likely just because the batteries get warm n moisture can build up by it.

Ok I'm sort of confused. Is this only happening with something plugged into the 3.5mm headphone jack, or are you referring to the actual built in mic on the bottom of the phone?

anywho, do u have an at&t authorized repair/warranty center by where u live/work? I say bring your phone n recording over to them n show it to them, let them hear it n explain this happens sporadically. If u want, tell them u can call their phone there n let it sit for 10 minutes or so until it happens again. But just make sure it can be recreated in their presence though. Otherwise u should just call 611 (or is it 511...411?? ) talk with them n wait till it happens over the phone lol!

The mic in question is the Nitro's built in microphone.

Thanks, the Chicago Warranty center is a couple blocks from my work. It looks like I may be able to get "same-day, face-to-face warranty and technical support." This certainly is good news. And thanks for the info about the water damage indicator, white gold!
I guess my main concerns now are backing up and unrooting.
-I guess I will have to purchase titanium backup and go that route. Anything special I should know about backing up?
-As far as unrooting goes, I think I can recall seeing some post about it on this forum, I will have to go hunting. Are there any known successful methods?

Easiest way to unroot is to download superoneclick 2.3.3 and click the unroot button with usb debugging enabled on the phone. I have done it several times without fail.

Which method did you use to root it? I know in the SuperOneClick program there is an "Unroot" button.

use malninion's unbricking solution to unroot your phone and restore it to factory if you are concerned about a root getting in the way of an exchange and are unable to deroot. also, all exchanges of this phone under warranty are for refurbished units, LG policy.

Refurbs are fine if they still hold the 1 year warranty. Do you know the details?

The LG rep and the ATT rep I spoke with yesterday said the refurbs are better and they carry full warranty. I *thought* I heard the LG rep say our phone has a 6 month warranty, new or refurbed but it very well could be 1 year. Both reps said all refurbished phones are tested v. 10% of new phones are tested. Not sure how that makes a refurb better but that's all the details I was given re: the exchange policy.
Also, I went through the troubleshooting of mine on the phone with ATT, that agent issued a return authorization that I could have used locally by just bringing the phone in and getting a replacement. I got the impression that there would be no on-site attempt to fix my phone, just a visual inspection of the glass, case and water damage marks.
I was able to fix my phone so I didn't have to go through with it all.

Maybe it's 6 months on a new one. I think I heard 1 year, but I guess I'm not positive on that.

It does not matter which method you used to root your phone (doomlord or superoneclick), superoneclick can unroot the phone fine without restoring the phone via Mal's guide. I use doomlord to root and superoneclick to unroot on my phone.

Or, you can simply remove the super user icon from the app drawer and they won't even know the phone was ever rooted (unless they go into applications and search for it, which I HIGHLY doubt they will even bother). About backing up, how many apps do you have on your phone? Does it really matter if u have to reinstall them again? If it does, then get TiBu free edition n manually accept every reinstallation process.
As for contacts, sync them all to your gmail acc, n your emails should already be synced anyways. For sms/mms, get go sms pro (free) and it has the feature to backup your sms/mms to the phone which u can then back up to your computer.
Don't bother with restoring to factory settings, just hand the phone to them, removing any icons of apps that might indicate you are rooted.

Anyone know if speaker crackling is covered by insurance? (ATT)

Like the title says. The speaker crackles at high pitched volume sounds. It never use to be this way. Ive got a Tilt 2 for ATT. I know things like the phone not working properly is covered but im not sure if the speaker falls into that category.
It is, I got my 3rd Fuze replaced by a Tilt 2 because of the speaker issue. You probably mean warranty.

The phone has a 1-year warranty through AT&T. You should be good for a warranty exchange.
Cool thanks. I actually just called but the lady wouldnt go any further with me because I dont have another phone to call her on besides my Tilt 2. She wanted to do "troubleshooting" steps. Sorry but I dont think there are any "troubleshooting" steps you can take for a f-d up speaker. lol

All they'll have you try is to likely soft reset the phone, then maybe hard reset it and see if the speaker is still messed up. They also want to verify that the moisture indicator shows the phone hasn't been exposed to water. If the speaker is still messed up and the indicator is fine they'll just exchange the phone.
i recommend going to a device support center, much better than dealing with someone over the phone because they are required to ask you to go through troubleshooting steps that are pretty worthless and do not produce anything.
go here, scroll down, click your state and see if there are any near you. mines about 20-30 min from my house and worth the drive because if your device is covered and there is a problem, they just change it for you on the spot.

[Q] Sending TP2 to HTC for repair under warranty. Couple questions...

I bought my TouchPro2 through Mobile Phones Direct.co.uk, back in June '09. Just recently it started giving me problems with the ExtUSB. Have to fiddle with it just to make it take a charge, and I've given up trying to get to to connect to PC via USB.
Today it has got to the point where sliding the screen up or down too fast turns the phone off. Then I have to press power button to turn it on again.
I understand HTC supply a 24 month warranty. At least that's what my warranty card leaflet says. I already check the water indicators on the bottom of battery and next to MicroSD slot, they are both good (white with red crosshatchings.)
I have two concerns thought.
1) Is there a way for me to confirm that the Rom/SPL etc that I am using are the official ones that won't validate my warranty. I am pretty sure I never did any modding to this phone, only to my old Kaiser. But to be sure I would like to double check. ANy advice on how to do this?
2) My major worry is that my phone has loads of scratches on the screen, on the corners where paint is chipped. The battery cover is in a bad way too, the top left corner has a small crack and the metal strip in the middle of it has broken off around the camera lens.
So I am worried that HTC will tell me that whatever my problems are are because of normal wear and tear and therefore wont fix my phone. The thing is though all these problems are merely aesthetic which is why they never bothered me too much (at least once the first scratch is out the way anyway). My phone worked fine for ages despite these superficial defects (I never used a screen protector or case, phone used to go in my pocket along with coins, keys etc., and of course it did sustain the occasional drop).
Can anyone advise me as to whether this will be a problem? If HTC refused to fix/replace it then I would rather not send it in, to avoid the fee for returning it.
P.S. Also I don't know if I still have the paper invoice to prove purchase, will the emailed invoice be proof of purchase if I can't find the paper copy?
Oh yeh and finally, I don't have any insurance, so I am completely dependent on this warranty being honoured.l
I returned my Pro2 to the UK centre earlier this year. They don't need proof of purchase believe it or not, they never asked me once for mine, however, the electronic one will be fine as say you bought it on eBay, you wouldn't have a paper copy necessarily.
Also, I was using using a different stylus, had many programs like HD Walls and REStart and so on packed in there. Changed the home screen, even edited the files in the Windows directory that mailla used, altering them to say "Kev's Messages" and so on, and they never said a thing to me. My reason for returning is that the hard keys weren't working, they repaired it and flashed a new ROM on it and they never once had an issue with the "state" (if you will) that my Pro2 was in. Also I had many scratches on the battery pack and so on so I think you'll be fine! I hope this helps!

arguing on phone to some dude now.
they originally sent me email saying device wasnt in warranty choose 1 of 3 options
1) pay 160ish £ to repair device
2) pay 20 to have device returned to me
3) allow htc to dispose of device
obviously didnt want to choose any of the 3 options, so i rang htc. spoke to someone who repeated options to me, saying if i did nothing then my device would be disposed of. I said i want to escalate matter, he told me theres no point, they'll tell me the same thing. I said i want to escalate anwyay, he told me to fill out service escalation form from htc website. found this at http://www.htc.com/uk/serviceescalation.aspx (even though its not linked to, anywhere in uk htc site)
filled that out on 6/10/10. never got any reply or anything. last friday 22/10/10 i got another email asking which option of the 3 i wanted to choose. rang htc back, told em how come no ones replied to my service escalation form, first person told me that the guy i originally spoke to (6/10/10) WAS the guy who escalated the issue, i was like WTF?? she said hang on, passed me to someone else, who said it had been escalated , i just didnt get the reply, but that he had in writing from the people who the matter was escalated to, that phone wont be fixed under warranty, i started complainign, saying i filled out the escalation form because i wanted to speak to someone who was higher up, and that i gave my contact details so i expected a reply FROM THEM. He then said he'd let me speak to his superior, which i did, and that guy repeated the same, first saying what form did i fill out, calaiming theres only customer care form on the website, but i told him original guy i spoke to told me to fill out the service escalation form, which i found (only by googling and guessing url).
I told him check the phone convo which should have been recorded, and he would see that i was advised to fill out SERVICE ESCALATION form from HTC website, which i did. he said he will check photos to see if the visual damage is minor enough that they will continue to repair anyway, (i doubt it , coz it had one pretty deep scratch in the screen, and back battery cover was cracked in corner). He also said he'll get original guy who i told me to fill out esclation form to call me back tomorrow.
I think theyre lying, noone seems to have done anythign about my escalation form. They say that the matter was escalated and that they have it back, in writing, that phone is not under warranty, but then why didnt anyone tell me anyof this, i wasn't contacted despite leaving contact info in contact fields of escalation form.
GRRRR, i knew this would happen, any excuse to get out of fixing the damn thing, i keep saying that im not bothered about the aesthetic damage (scratched screen, small crack in battery cover) since my phone worked fine for ages WITH these problems. i want them to fix the fact that my phones extUSB connector has gone dodgy, and that phones turns off, when i slide it open.

BEWARE unless guaranteed in writing they will flash the device with the latest win 6.5 rom and you will lose everything.
Even if they agree not to touch it, still often hard reset!
I'm fighting them for a LOT of compensation - for time, ignoring written instructions and £80 of telephone calls. Wil sue them if don't get anywhere this week.

None of those things violate the warranty. Just hard resetting clears all of those. HardSPL and flashing a custom ROM violate the warranty.

[Q] sprint store with a rooted evo

so I have the screen separation appearing on the bottom right corner of my screen. I am rooted with CM6 and wanted to know should I unroot and go back to stock before taking my phone to Sprint Service center? If so, where can I found the stock latest 2.2 to flash my phone back to stock?

I got the screen replaced on my Evo last week due to dust under the upper left corner. I took it in just like I use it...running Fresh Rom and the Riptide theme. They won't say anything about being rooted unless you are bringing the phone in for a problem that may be related to rooting. Screen seperation isn't that type of problem. They didn't even mention it.

I said in my post "I got the screen replaced on my Evo last week". They removed the screen (outer glass, bezel, digitizer and LCD are all one assembly) and put a new one on. Took about an hour.

Did they charge you?
If there is no physical damage (scratches, dents, water damage) it should be replaced for free.
While that guy was lucky, I would DEFINITELY unroot before taking it in. Rooting voids your entire warranty, and if they see it, even if your problem is hardware related and not software related, they can void the warranty and you will never get it fixed. Better safe than sorry.

you need to unroot, not just flash a stock ROM... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=800582 but first check if your s-on/off (read the link to find out more)
Forgot I had a nandroid backup saved on my computer of my phone while it still had HTC rom.
Turned out my glass on the front panel was version 1 which means my complete phone has to be replaced.
So now I will have Android 2.2 with HTC rom and will have to learn to root that. It was so easy to root when I had 2.1 but I'm sure I will be able to handle it.
New Evo on Thursday!

I called my local Sprint repair center and asked what their policy was on rooted phones. Like the OP said they didn't care as long as you aren't having software issues. If you are thinking about taking your phone in call the store and ask it won't hurt a bit. Now if you think they are going to replace your device save your self a trip and unroot first because the phone will need to be returned to stock before they will exchange it. The employees were actually impressed with what had been done with the phone and were very cool about it. Think about it they work on phones hopefully they like what they do, they think its cool too.

I rooted a new one yesterday and used unrevoked without issue. It has actually gotten easier then when i had to use adb push and all that.

So, since I am getting a new phone out of this and my phone is still rooted, should I go back to completely stock?
All I did was flash back to my very first back up with HTC stock rom.
Will just having my Evo flashed to that first backup be enough when they ship off my phone after they hand me over my new one or should I fully restock my phone?
Does the phone go back to Sprint or HTC?
fully unroot and return the phone to stock it is easy to do its like 2 steps and takes only a few minutes.
people act like it is an hour long in depth process to root and unroot your phones its 5-10 minutes to do it and better not to take chances. All it takes is for one guy having a bad day to be a **** and make a note voiding warranty etc. Also in your case now is it really worth risking having to go home and unroot it then run back out to do the swap if they need you?

I went in today to get my button crack fixed, made an appointment, took some time off work, and the second I got in there the guy berated me for having a non-official extended battery and said they wouldn't do any work on it because its rooted - even though my problem had NOTHING to do with software.
unrooting right now and then going to a manager. generally sweet customer service... not today.

Ouch hope they didn't flag your account...if so your SOL unless you know someone or find a hella cool manager.
Always unroot it only takes a matter of minutes (or should) and can save you a lot of hassle.

I've given back a few rooted phones for non-root related issues (speaker bad, kickstand won't stay in, LEDs don't work - 5 evos total so far) with no issues. Did the same with a lot of flashed TP's (12) and TP2's (2).
They can void your warranty for rooting it, sure, but they can't over the battery. Just tell him you don't know anything about it and you bought it that way on craigslist. That doesn't protect your warranty, but unless the guy has just decided to be a total d-bag they'll probably replace it anyway.
Also, the employees behind the counter are just people too. Being nice and not acting like you have a sense of self-entitlement to anything you want goes a long way. Believe me, I know first-hand. Customers' attitude factors in fairly heavily in how they get charged at the computer shop I work at because the techs set the prices on jobs.
Just be nice, don't be an a-hole yourself. If they say they won't fix it - fine. Say thanks anyway, be polite, and leave with it. Go home, unroot it, pick a different sprint store, and go complain about your original problem again. Five bucks says they'll fix it no questions asked.
It sounds like some of you need to read the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. The very notion of "my entire warranty is voided because I'm rooted" is completely illegal and anyone that tries to tell you otherwise could find themselves in some legal hot water.

Not true, if you modify or alter a consumer product to a point that it performs significantly different than the manufacturer intended, the manufacturer is under no obligation to warranty it any longer.
I'm pretty sure this topic has been addressed many times and there is no set answer? I vaguely remember reading a legal article on it as well. It would be nice if there was an official statement made by both carriers and phone manufactures.

While that guy was lucky, I would DEFINITELY unroot before taking it in. Rooting voids your entire warranty, and if they see it, even if your problem is hardware related and not software related, they can void the warranty and you will never get it fixed. Better safe than sorry.

That is not entirely true. They can not void your warrenty for issues unrelated to rooting. If you brick your rom, sure that is legit for them to do that...but if my LCD fails, and is unrelated to the rooting, then no they can not. If they try to do that, you make sure you fight it.
I had a repair center in my town refuse to fix my speaker on my mogul with low volume problem, because I had a scratch on my battery door cover. He said my warrenty was void to to "Physical damage."
After a phone call to Sprint, and apparently other complaints that service center lost thier contract with Sprint. I ended up with a touch pro 2.... (Although I just wanted my mogul fixed , I was never happy with the TP2, and bought an EVO )

What do i do now that HTC has screwed me over?

Just to give you a brief rundown of everything that's happened..
I'm 17 and saved up for a few months to buy a HTC One X. Needless to say, it's probably the most expensive phone i've ever owned, since all my other phones were hand-me-downs and old phones from eBay.
This morning i wake up and go to work as usual. Just to find my phone's display won't switch on. As you can imagine, I'm tirelessly panicking and try the 3 button combo.. to no avail.
Using Fastboot to reboot didn't work either.
This phone turned into a brick overnight, and i have no idea what happened??
Just before i left for work, i did check my phone and it was working alright.. Then five minutes later, it won't display anything.
The thing is, I can't take it back to HTC either because this is my 5th replacement phone!
First one had black glue smudged on the LCD it's self,
Second one had the screen not glued down and wasn't aligned,
Third one didn't even have any glue applied and the case wasn't even attached properly,
Forth one had this problem where the screen's LCD would dilate if i touched it - even lightly,
and this one is my 5th, the antenna wasn't properly connected and now the screen doesn't work.
I've had terrible luck, and i don't know what i can do?
If you can give me any information to get me out of this, it would be much appreciated.
Although i still can receive text's and calls fine, it's just the display..
Since you’re unlocked and running a non-stock kernel and ROM, maybe some of the dev-ish folks can help you resuscitate it if it’s indeed a s/w problem.
If it’s a h/w problem, what to do depends on where you bought the phone and how old it is. If it’s within the remorse/DOA period maybe you can exchange it. It’ll be hard for whoever you bought it from to see you’ve unlocked it if nothing’s showing on the display.
If it’s outside of the exchange period you’ll have to send it in for repair. If you can’t bring it back to life to flash it back to stock you’ll have to throw yourself on the mercy of HTC Asia in getting it fixed unlocked. HTC's different repair centers seem to all have different policies related to warranty coverage for h/w faults on unlocked phones. If it is a dead display maybe you’ll get lucky.
You might want to put a note in with it telling your “I’m 17” story and how devastated you are something you’ve worked so hard for has failed. Repair techs are people too. Good luck.

I shook the device out of frustration.. and it started working for a few seconds.
What's going on here? Is it a faulty display/connection? Is there a way to possibly just send it to a nearby phone shop and get it fixed?

Are HTC refusing then? That seems a bit off/ illegal... Surely under the faulty goods act (I assume the law isn't THAT different in Australia to UK) they have to take it back as it CAN'T be a year old and they can't prove the issue was caused by your mistreatment. It doesn't matter how many phones you've had... Also, where did you buy the phone from? I think you should be able to return it through the shop as THEY sold you the phone, not HTC... They are still under an obligation as they sold you the thing.
Plus, the 'I'm a 17 year old and saved up for ages thing' might work too! I'd try not to get too technical with the law if you go down this route though!
Best of luck sorting this out. It's within your rights to get a replacement (you bought the phone new, I assume?) so I'm sure this will eventually work out. Don't give up! You just need to speak/ write to the right person...

What rom were you on?
I remember my One X not charging at all while it was turned off completely although it showed Orange charging led.
It could be that you ran out of battery and phone not turning on. Due to no charging effect.
@Op,
Reading your story there's one thing that's crossing my mind.
Could it be possible the battery run dry during the night?
It sounds stupid but those things you forget easy when you're in a hurry or stressed.
I don't read anything in your post you tried to charge.

Yes. But not in every region (yet). Do a search. It's been disucssed. Also, it appears Samsung's going down the same path.

Aware of the discussion... Using the xda app and didn't pick up that the phone's been 'HTCdev'd (my fault for not reading properly - sorry, folks!). Still not sure HTC/ Samsung can legally 'sign your rights away' though. Still, not a discussion for here...

How or who fixed ur antenna problem, could be related if handset wasnt but back together properly.

I'm really hoping that someone can come up with a solution to this problem. Back in September, my mother purchased a s6 edge+ under the At&t Next plan. Everything worked fine until November, when calls started dropping and people were saying that either they couldn't hear my mother or she couldn't hear them. There's also a lot of static when making calls.
The first thing we did was take the phone in to an AT&T store for repairs and they figured it was an issue with her sim card. After replacing the sim card, the problem went away, but eventually came back. Going back to the store a second time, a representative suggested taking it to tech support. We did and they couldn't do anything except get a warranty replacement. However, when the replacement came, it had the same issue.
Now my mother is practically ready to rip some heads because basically, no matter who higher up she talks to, they're saying that the only thing they can do is keep sending replacements. There's a complete refusal to offer a different type of phone or any other kind of help at all.
My question is does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it? If not, is there any other route she can take or is she stuck paying for a phone that is defective?
This is what I would do...
Well, the only thing you can do that I know of is to try and sell it like it is or for parts.
Be honest in the description but be satisfied with the income because its actually pretty high.
1. remove all personal info including all synced accounts to the phone
1a. Make sure you take the sim too
2. soft reset
3. hard reset
4. clear the cache on the device
5. reboot to make sure everything runs smoothly
buy a new phone.
That's what i'd do. Not a XDA expert. Maybe if you hold onto it for a few months a solution will come up.

There issue could either be, A - service where she is at is lacking for the phone, and/or it is how she's holding the phone; holding near the bottom by the base of the phone, it does cause interference with talking on it when using. Try having her holding near the middle to avoid call interruptions or even using a headphones for calling. Reason for holding it differently is because the antennas of our phones are located on the bottom, hence holding the bottom of the phone will cause call interruptions. Furthermore, the only thing that AT&T can do is offer a replacement.

For the most part, she uses a Bluetooth headset. I also use at&t and call quality is fine for my Nexus 6p
Yes, but she has a 6 E+ correct? As I said, the antenna of the phone is located on the bottom and thus holding the bottom WILL cause call quality to be little to none leading to dropped calls. It sucks so I use a headset to avoid that and/or I hold it differently. That is the only thing 'bad' about it.
Yes, yes, comparing 'other' phones isn't going to help to justify call quality; it's redundant. I gave the two best options to fix the issue; hold the phone differently than the bottom and if it still doesn't work normal, keep on bugging AT&T for replacement(s). Those are the options. If you don't like either of those, (just my hunch ?) sell it and hope to get enough money for a new phone.
