No accounts setup in CM7 - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, whenever I flash CM7 (either the stables or nightlies) I never get the setup options.
So I can't log into my Google account.
I have tried doing it manually but the Google account does not show neither does Facebook or any of the other options.
Trying to log in through the mail app presents a "could not find server error"
Does anyone have a solution for this.
I've tried searching the forum for a similar post and Googling the problem both with no luck, sorry if It's a repost

Ninja'd lol
P.s if you don't want your market to keep updating then open the gaps zip and remove the market update then repack before you flash it.

Thanx sooo much!!! Can't wait to try it

when i first rooted last year, it took me ages to realise this. I spent ages, about 4 weeks looking for all the apps to download - and couldnt work out why the market wouldnt accept my gmail account i just added to the mail app, this was before i discovered XDA that has since made my life a lot easier

It's been months actually, I resorted to jokerdroid when I gave up on finding the solution. And like you I've found this lifesaving forum. Is there a way to get Facebook and twitter intergration back or should I just download their apps?

Gapps only flashes the Android Market. It doesn't literally flash all the Google Apps(Gmail, Goggles etc.)

I don't see why it should cause problems

Just realised my bad oversight of not not hitting the thanks button, alas a new challenge presents itself, this xda app has no 'thank' option.

GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk – Installs Calendar sync provider. Registers specific calendars on device for use in other Calendar applications.
GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk – Installs Contact sync provider. Required for Google Talk application to function correctly.
GoogleFeedback.apk – When a program crashes, option to log crash report.
GooglePartnerSetup.apk – Unknown, most likely used on initialisation of device.
GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk – Widget on home screen for quick search. Also has voice search shortcut, and search type box.
GoogleServicesFramework.apk – Core for Google services backend on phone. Required for nearly all Sync functions.
googlevoice.apk – Google Voice app. Useful in countries where Google Voice is supported.
HtcCopyright.apk – HTC application to display copyright information, can be used on non-HTC devices as well, but useless.
HtcEmailPolicy.apk - HTC application to display copyright information, can be used on non-HTC devices as well, but useless.
HtcSettings.apk - HTC application to display customised settings, can be used on non-HTC devices as well, but useless.
kickback.apk – Unknown. Does not appear to be useful.
LatinImeTutorial.apk – Tutorial on how to use the touch screen keyboard. Chances are you already know how to use it.
Maps.apk – Google Maps application. Latest version also available on Market.
MarketUpdater.apk – Specific software updater for market, automatically runs as required.
MediaUploader.apk – Background service which launches everytime you run an upload function (ie. Picasa / Facebook / Emails)
NetworkLocation.apk – Uses cell triangulation and/or wireless networks to help speed up GPS location. Toggled through Location settings.
OneTimeInitializer.apk – Most likely OOBE, not necessary.
PassionQuickOffice.apk – Office suite. If you have other office suites, then not required.
SetupWizard.apk – When you enter details for your Google Account initially, this is called.
soundback.apk – Unknown, not necessary.
Street.apk – Street View, called when zoomed in on a location on Google Maps and want street level view.
Talk.apk – Google Talk, chat program. Is critical when using Android Market to download apps. Many downloads will not initialise with Talk being logged in.
talkback.apk – Possibly similar to Feedback. Does not appear to be necessary.
Twitter.apk – Twitter application and/or widget. Latest version is available from Market.
Vending.apk – Official Android Market.
VoiceSearch.apk – Voice search, can be called from shortcut, keyboards or via app drawer.
YouTube.apk – Youtube application. Latest version can be found on market.

It added the market in my case, maybe your g-apps wasn't compiled correctly

Why would it be called gapps (Google Apps) if it only added the Market and not the rest of the Google Apps?

No Latitude Widget

I made a search but couldn't find a similar topic on xda or Google. I started using latitude today via Google maps but noticed that I don't a widget called "Latitude" on my desire.
Any idea why this is the case ? It should present, right ?
I don't know if there is a specific latitude widget (I haven't found one), but if you go into (google) maps and press the menu button, you get an option for latitude.....
Hope this helps

Yes I am using that, but there is also latitude widget. I found out that the widget comes with the new google maps (v 4.1), however in my country the application is not present in market section due to the licencing ang legal stuff (according to an announcement by google). Which is very odd because I am using google maps w/o problem, workes flawlessy. why can't I update it, beats me ?
I need to find free app maps 4.1 and install it. Hopefully thw widget will come.

Applications Safe To Remove

If you find applications which are safe to remove from the ROM, please post them here, along with what functionality is lost, including which "app" as it shows in the drawer, gets removed.
I will try to compile a big list in uniform format later on. Please only post if you have actually tested it.
Spreadsheet Of Applications Removable
I have removed all the hub apps social hub, music hub, game hub, etc using root explorer method I can confirm that it is safe to remove these with no problems system/apps is where they are.
would love a full list of this, i think this is going to be a commonly asked question. i'm still not 100% what i should be getting rid off
I've frozen or removed all of the above and AP Mobile, Yahoo finance, AccuWeather, Buddies now and Video maker with no issues using AntTek App Manager.

what sort of functionality loss this you notice? Can you please tell us, i'm planing to get rid of most of stock apps when i get the phone but like to know what will be affected.
So.
Being a new android user, I messed around with my phone without a full understanding of what would happen if i uninstalled a core application. I assumed incorrectly that Titanium Backup would allow me to reinstall applications, and then uninstalled the stock clock application thinking that it was one of the many clock widgets.
Could someone upload their stock Clock application apk here, or advise me as to how I can restore the stock clock without having to flash the original ROM?
Do you mean this apk?
i'm no expert either but if its the one you deleted then pushing it back via adb should do the trick.

Anyway to remove the Agenda widget? Can't find that anywhere in Titanium...
I think its part of one of the calendar listings. One is the set of widgets and one is the calendar app. Whatever one doesn't have "open" available when you click on it is the set of Widgets.

[GUIDE] Google Music Beta in the UK

Figure this may be useful as the stock music player installed on the Galaxy Nexus is all setup ready for the cloud based goodness of Google Music, but it's a service supposedly only available in the US at the moment.
To work around that, try the following (worked for me, YMMV):
Download the appropriate version of Tor Browser bundle for your platform from:
https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html.en
Install, load up the Vidalia control panel and click "Settings"
Navigate to the advanced section, click "Edit current torrc"
Paste the following into the bottom of the torrc file:
ExcludeNodes {be},{pl},{ca},{za},{vn},{uz},{ua},{tw},{tr},{th},{sk},{sg},{se},{sd},{sa},{ru},{ro},{pt},{ph},{pa},{nz},{np},{no},{my},{mx},{md},{lv},{lu},{kr},{jp},{it},{ir},{il},{ie},{id},{hr},{hk},{gr},{gi},{gb},{fi},{es},{ee},{dk},{cz},{cy},{cr},{co},{cn},{cl},{ci},{ch},{by},{br},{bg},{au},{at},{ar},{aq},{ao},{ae},{nl},{de},{fr}
(This will force Tor to use a US exit node)
Save the settings, restart Tor.
In the Tor tunneled Firefox that's now running, visit:
http://music.google.com
If you get an error about it only being available in the US, go back to the Tor Vidalia control panel and click the "Use a new identity" button (to pick a new exit node) and refresh the page. Repeat until you get a Google music login box.
Try signing in with your existing Google account - this worked fine for me but there seem to be conflicting reports about whether it works in all cases for non-US accounts.
If not, you may have to setup a new GMail account solely for Google Music use. Be sure to create the account using the Tor tunneled Firefox so that Google think you're in the US when you sign up.
Once you've logged in to Google Music once and accepted the T&Cs (maybe grab the dire Busta Rhymes freebie track to check its all working) you can ditch Tor - Google Music will quite happily now let you access and upload music from the UK.
Load up the Music Player, link the newly Google Music enabled account to it, enjoy.
thanks
streaming on my device is quite nice, but i have to wait until the song is fully loaded to start it (in Music-app)... little bit annoying
A much easier way to do it is just use a proxy website (like those ones to get around school/work firewalls). The majority are based in the US.
I used the first link that came up on a Google search to sign up for Google Music back around the time it launched. Less hassle than downloading software etc.
The only real problem is that you can't access the store, which means you can't get any of the free music or buy anything.
You still get the syncing and upload abilities though, which is quite nice. I just need to sort out my music collection now before I upload it
I know that's probably a bit stupid but I can't install the app from the market. It downloads correctly but when it wants to install the app it says it isn't signed properly or so. Is this because it isn't developed for the desire? I would like to use it until my nexus arrives.

Found an interesting thread about it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350164
I keep getting an 'error at line 1' message when I click on OK. Even without entering any extra text I also get it
The 'error at line x' is something to do with Windows 7 (possibly x64) editing the torrc file. Had the same issue...
Easiest fix is to go to the Tor folder/data/tor/ then open 'torrc' with Notepad manually. Edit the file by hand, save and restart Tor and it'll accept the changes fine.
I used TunnelBear on my PC to trick Google into thinking I Was in the USA, then accessed Google Music over the internet and registered for the service.
Then on my phone, I downloaded the Music APK from this XDA page and installed it on my phone.
Works fine for me for playing music on my phone and music off my computer which has been uploaded to the cloud.
Play still won't give you access to the music section though as it's not licensed still for UK use.
lol. what's the problem: i'm using music beta since last november here in germany even though its not even released here.
Hmm, used Tor and got my account linked to Google Music. I'm now uploading an album just fine, but when I try to use the Music Manager to listen to the songs, it still says it's only available in the US.

[Q] kwbr v2.0 and facebook contact sync

Is anyone else running this ROM and having trouble syncing their contacts? I have the latest Facebook app installed and running smoothly but when I go to add a Facebook account (settings > accounts and sync > add account > Facebook) it acts like a broken link.
It does state in the ROM thread that media apps were removed. Could that be the cause (lack of Sense for Facebook)?
I'm a Desire HD user myself but the Wildfire Facebook app doesn't seem to have the same contact sync options within the app itself.
Any help gratefully received.
have you downloaded the FB app from the market?
Yes. I had originally restored it via Titanium Backup but when I encountered this problem I uninstalled and grabbed it directly from the market. Didn't make any difference.
and everything else syncs fine?
Yes. I've not had a problem syncing anything else although Facebook is the only 'media' app installed. Other items that sync (google contacts / hotmail) have no problems.
I'm not very familiar with sense. What app does it use to sync Facebook contacts? Does it just use the Facebook app (like in AOSP roms) or is there a sense-based app that runs in the background?
There's a couple of apps, friendstream.apk and friendstreamwidget.apk I'm not sure if you need both pushed to the /system/app folder or if theres anymore things needed, im pretty sure I've seen a Facebook for htc sense before too. Best bet is to download a full sense Rom and compare then steal the apps you require and push them to there relevant folders.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
When u press sync it will start the sync adapter for facebook. Probably something like
com.facebook.android
I don't sync my fb contacts because there are too many so am not willing to test this so if anyone could confirm that would be great.
If you load up your fb app, can you just log in? this will sometimes add the account to the phone.
Also, try clearing data and cache from app manager in settings, uninstalling then re-installing

Thanks for the suggestions Scratch. I'll have to s-off the wildfire for that so I'll give it a crack tomorrow.
I've tried everything short of the [extreme] action suggested by Scratch Arkoze. Will let you know how it all goes.
Hi,there is a workaround via unzipping rom and copy, paste apps required if you don't fancy s-offing.

Ok, so I took the good advice given to me by slymobi and Scratch and added:
com.htc.FriendStreamWidget.apk
Friendstream.apk
HtcFacebook.apk
SocialNetworkProvider.apk
from a different ROM (REMPuzzle) into the /system/app folder of the kwbr 2.0 zip, reflashed and viola, the sense/facebook syncing seems to be up and running.
Thanks everyone.

from what I understand, you only need to have com.htc.FriendStreamWidget.apk if you have a widget set on screen, I believe it does not affect the Friendstream.apk but I may be wrong if someone can clarify?

Google maps vs Locations from new calendar address

When creating a new google calendar event on the phone there is a pin that opens the HTC locaions apps.
Can I change it to Google maps?
Thanks,
Danny
PS
I have already installed "Select Other Map for HTC" which solves the same problem but for the contacts address.
If you are on a custom Rom, and have the option of removing HTC locations, then this will generate the prompt to use google maps
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Great idea, but I'm on the original ROM (and don't have any intentions to change). I'm not so familiar with these kinds of things.
Any other suggestion?
Thanks,Danny
I know this is an old thread, but I was looking for the same thing. I am on stock as well and ended up by just disabling locations. You can do it in settings > apps .
