[Q] Select network manually - Samsung Captivate Glide

Hi there,
I have AT&T SGC and manual GSM network selection and other network settings are disabled. I want to be able to choose which network to connect to, especially when roaming. Any ideas how to enable them? Does Rogers ROM have this limitation?
Thank you

To answer my own question - Rogers ROM seems to solve this problem. The option for SMS delivery reports also appeared. Rogers ROM is so much better than at&t!

Yes, I confirm that. Had the same issue with AT&T ROM, switched to Rogers.
Works like a charm !

ROM difference between i927 & i927R and 4G symbol

Hi,
Being in Australia the Captivate Glide is not available locally so ordered it online via a parallel importer.
I was supposed to receive the AT&T version but due to no stock I received the Rogers i927R version.
I cannot root the device as my work place prevents it since I need to use it for work related messaging.
1. Is there a list of differences between the AT&T and Rogers ROM's ?
2. I'm on Optus which uses 900/2100MHz, so the phone will connect on 2100.
Using an App called Network Signal Info I can see data connection switching when I'm moving around as normal, but the data symbol in the notification bar doesn't match when on 3G as follows:
NetInfo | Speed | Notif-Bar-Symbol
GPRS | 55kbit | G
UMTS (3G) | 384kbit | 4G <-- doesnt say 3G
HSDPA | 7.2Mbit | 4G
This a bug or ROM incompatibility ?
Thanks.
The only differences I know of is that the Rogers ROM is carrier-iq free and the tethering option is unlocked.
In my AT&T version, I can't find any way to manually toggle between 2G and 3G networks. However the network info apps/widget show it's automatically switching between EDGE, HSDPA and HSPA.

It would be handy to sometimes by able to force 2G to save battery.
Anyway, can the Rogers ROM be flashed onto the AT&T Glide and still work ?

Good point.
Sounds like I should stick with the Rogers one they sent me rather than swap it for an AT&T version since the Rogers one will be most compatible without having to 'root'.
Carriers in Australia seem to allow tethering by default as long as you have a working App for it.
Thanks.
Which parallel importer did you use, do they have an online storefront?
Hope the Rogers version pricing comes down as fast the AT&T one. That's I went for At&T, down the line I'll end up flashing it with an open ROM. Mostly because of OpenVPN support.

Indeed that's why I asked, since I don't use any data packages.
I checked my mom's S II, appears to be an AT&T carrier limitation. It won't even scan for other networks. I set her S II to 2G.
Earlier I wasn't concerned with the AT&T ROM, but this one is annoying, I could save some serious battery time by switching to 2G.

They've been very helpful and responsive, trying to get stock as quickly as possible.
When they couldnt get the AT&T Captivate Glide they sent me the Rogers Galaxy S Glide.
Seems that was the better way to go.
AT&T locks down their network and band select while Rogers does not. AT&T uses an "H+" on the HSDPA network to show status while Rogers uses a "4G".
Learned by flashing Rogers ROM onto an ATT cglide. Changed the model to 927R as well. Went back to ATT when I noticed the loss of the ATT wifi options.

So even after rooting the phone, there's no way to manually change bands while on the AT&T ROM?

I'm using the Rogers version in Australia.
I have all the normal WiFi options and have used it at home and on public ones with no issues.
I think, just guessing, that Tynar is talking about the customized WiFi options on the AT&T ROM I have read about which gives you access to their own WiFi network.

Yep, I since had a look at the User Guides, of which there is a different one for each version Rogers and AT&T. The ROM's have been customized to show different symbols for mobile connectivity.

Ya... Thats at&t limitation, I guess... But atleast in my sister's AT&T Thrill phone (running Froyo + rooted with SuperOneClick) the "NETWORK" app (LINK) from AM/PlayStore works and helps in selecting 2G only or 3G only whenever needed...
But even that app is NOT working on my rooted CapGlide... May be because this phone has only rooted-ROM and not rooted-Kernal (as told by rooting guide in cap.glide development section)... Experienced members please help... I badly need 2G only for battery backup and 3G only for good speed as 3G coverage in my place is not great...
Thanks...

With AT&T Rom, you don't have that option.
You can flash Rogers Room (Untouched or Custom Rom) where you have the option of manually choosing network and choosing 2G/3G
Switching to 2G would really save on battery life.
So the notable differences are...
1. The AT&T ROM doesn't allow band switching or manual carrier search and selection. While the Rogers ROM does not have this restriction?
2. AT&T allows WiFi tethering, while Rogers doesn't?
3. Both versions come with Mail for Exchange apps?
4. Skype, G+ Hangouts, Google Talk, Voice and video works on both?
Please add/correct any other big differences. I'll make a table and put it up on Wikipedia once we have the notable differences, that could cause issues with international use.

[Q] Can I use AT&T i747 on Bell in Canada?

I have an unlocked stock rooted AT&T i747 running 4.1.2. I want to use it on the Bell network. When I put in a Bell sim, it shows it has service, and the pda.bell.ca APN shows up, but it can't find the Bell network, only Rogers. Just wondering if anyone else has tried the same thing and had success or no? As it is I cannot call, text, or browse... Please let me know if there is anything I can do.
Is there an option in the network settings to select lte or wcdma?
Did you check to make sure the phone isn't listed as being blacklisted?

I haven't located any settings about WCDMA or LTE. On my i747m I'm used to being able to toggle between 2G/3G/4G. Nothing like that here. Bell's IMEI check approved it, and it's not on the national blacklist.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434995 has the APN, I assume you already looked it up but can be useful.
Getting service but no data is usually just not having data turned on.. So obvious question: Do you have it turned on in your settings/pulldown menu?
If your APN checks and data is turned on, you might have to give Bell a call (don't have to tell them you have a US variant).
Thanks for your input. Data is definitely turned on. However, please remember that it's not only data that isn't working. I am also unable to call and text.

Can you check to make sure your baseband matches your bootloaders? If it does, I'm out of options for now. Bell (or someone else) can probably help you further.
Sorry for not being overly knowledgeable...
How can I tell what bootloader I'm running?

Ok. I found how tell what bootloader I'm running. The baseband and bootloader do match.

It seems it should be that way... the phone is unlocked, but when I put a Bell sim in it it says emergency calls only. The only network that comes up to set as default is Rogers. Can you advise me as to how to make 100% sure the phone is unlocked?
Are you running a custom ROM? Can you change the network settings to wcdma only?

Which carrier are you trying to use the phone with? If it is Telus/Bell/Koodo/Virgin, it should work without changing anything.
The only networks that support GSM are Fido and Rogers.

The ATT should work on Bell and Telus. My Bell i747m could roam on ATT when I travelled to the USA.
Just to confirm: you can connect to the Rogers network but not Bell or Telus?

LG G3 (D858HK) MMS not working in Australia

Howdy,
I can't send or receive MMS on my LG-D858HK. Everything else is working and I'm with Virgin Mobile (Australia).
*Confirmed all mobile settings are correct; I visited the Virgin Mobile store twice for this.
*MMS works if I put my sim card in another phone - tested it with Samsung Galaxy S3 and Sony Xperia Z.
*Signal strength is good, 4 bars on 3G network.
*Have tried factory reset.
*Firmware/Apps are up to date.
*I'm locked to Asian regions in some stock apps.
*On the lock-screen it says "No Sim Card, No Signal", but still works.
What should I do? If I want to install a different firmware/ROM, which one do you suggest (I don't care if my secondary sim card slot is disabled)?
Thank you for your help.

I know for my G3 i had to manually add the APN
Yep, I had to enter them manually as well, following the instruction on the Virgin site. I went to the Virgin store yesterday afternoon, the guy checked all the settings (including APN) for me. The guy at the store couldn't figure it out, so he suggested I might want to look online for a different firmware/custom rom.

So what does it say when you try to send a MMS to yourself?
It would be stuck trying to download the mms. It's the same if I try to send mms from my g3, it would stuck on "Sending...".
I fixed it! I switched back to the stock sms app and everything worked like it should. Google's Messenger app is having issues with MMS.

Ported AT&T from Cricket (AT&T), nxtgenphone APN gives no data?????

So I jumped on the AT&T/DirecTV Unlimited data deal and ported my phone today. It all looked normal and I got the activation texts and such - it even populated the nxtgenphone APN info (though it was deselected and I had to select it). Anyway, I've had no data at all. As a test, I switched the APN to phone and data works, but the speeds appear to be much lower than what my wife's iPhone is seeing on the nxtgenphone APN. Anyone got any tips?
I'm running Viper 2.5, latest US unlocked firmware and US unlocked selected as carrier, and it works fine on AT&T other than this......only other thing I can mention is when I select preferred band or whatever it shows WCDMA/GSM and if I change it to WCDMA/GSM/LTE it reverts back for some reason. Any help much appreciated. I've called AT&T and they're like, uh, we don't sell the HTC 10 so can't really help you... grrrrrr.....

I'd suggest ruu to stock us unlocked rom and see if the issue persists.
Or, try clean flash of viper.
I have no issues using US unlocked on AT&T with both stock rom and ice.
Thanks for trying to help. I just finished trying stock RUU and same problem. I'm convinced, as I was before, that this is AT&T's issue. I've read numerous posts this afternoon that because the HTC 10 (and other phones) aren't in their "LTE approved" database, nxtgenphone APN won't work, or it will only give HSPA speeds. Seems like everyone who has resolved it, or didn't run into the issue at all had another AT&T LTE phone they could use for the IMEI on the account, or the rep entered the model as an iPhone or similar to make it work. Really, really frustrating, as they refuse to help me and I'm starting to think I should just terminate in the 14 day window and do T-mobile or Verizon.
I have at&t and everything worked out of the box, I've never been on stock rom, always on Viper I did the unlock and s-off without a sim and never had an issue or called at&t to activate the device I just transferred my sim from my note 4 to the HTC 10, no provisioning issues at all, VOLTE works, LTE is fine as well while on a phone call... No issues... If you need anything to compare let me know

Thanks for replying. They did confirm it was a provisioning issue and they fixed it today. They had to do something different, as the default HTC 10 provisioning and IMEI check didn't fix it even when they tried it a second time, but they were able to adjust something and LTE definitely works now. VoLTE working here, too. Thanks!

i had a similar problem. after a software update was applied automatically, I lost wifi calling b/c my inserted SIM is not tmobile despite the device being unlocked. So, I inserted a tmobile sim and used ODIN to flash the latest stock firmware, and then i got wifi calling back. I'd test it first with a Tmobile sim (i bought one off ebay) and then restart the device. If that doesn't fix it, you may have to reflash stock firmware like I did.

I had a similar problem and couldn't even find the wi-fi calling option, let alone enable it. Here's how I fixed it: I enabled Bixby and updated it. Then I said "Hey Bixby, enable wi-fi calling..." and not only did Bixby enable it, she located the settings. The setting lives under "Call Settings" which isn't accessible in any other way than by using Bixby (at least from what I can see).
Now wi-fi calling is enabled and I now have a whole host of additional call settings available to me.
Hope this helps.
