Can we use this thread to update it with information of headphones with media controls (play/pause/mic/volume) that WORK as is with the phone? Obviously the headphones included with the phone are a given.
Thanks!

I am currently using klipsch S4i, it is special design for iDevices but they release the android one Klipsch Image S4A. I bought mine about 4 months before they released the S4A. You will not disappoint with the sound it produces. You can see review about the S4i on youtube, the sound quality is the same for S4i and S4A. They just specially design for different devices.

I have some cheap sonys. Like $30. Play/pause works and skip. Prev and volume doesn't but no biggie. Important bases are covered.

I am currently using the ibeats that came from the HTC sensation XE on my GN but I am eyeing out on this one. You can also download the app from the marketplace and customize the headset functions to your liking =)

i have the beats by dre ibeats and they work perfectly

Currently, only one button headphones work with android. Three button headphones only work with Apple devices. As i understand, this is a limitation of the Android OS, though i wonder how hard would it be for a dev to patch this functionality.
Most 3rd party players from the market (doubletwist, poweramp) have built-in controls so that you can play/pause/skip/etc via the one single button.
I am using a pair of Shure SE535 with my phone and only my center button works, the other two don't function.

I have the Bose MIE2i earbuds with 3 buttons. The pause/play button works fine but the volume up/down does nothing at all. But they sound great!

S4a has only one button, though it can be assigned multiple commands using the free Klipsch Control software from the market - you can customize the button, including double-press, etc.
I haven't used the controls much yet but they work with the Galaxy Nexus, which was not the case from my old Galaxy S. the sound is quite good from these headphones.

Not true - the iBeats that come with the Rezound work perfectly. Problem is, I can't find any Monster iBeats that have the three button control, all of the ControlTalk ones I find are single button.
Anyone have a link to the iBeats as sold with the Rezound? In Google Music (only app I tested them with), play/pause and track/forward back worked as it should.

Agree, I get mine for 50% off and I love them. They are just.. well amazing.

Got a pair of Sol Republic Amps that work. Three button remote, Play/Pause (Double tap = Next, Triple = Prev), and then volume controls.

I just picked up a pair of Etymotic Hf3's from Best Buy (on clearance for $80, reg $180) and using Klipsch control. Works great! I am pretty sure three Klipsch app works with a lot of headphones.
I think there is another similar app in the market by Jay's...haven't tried that one yet.

fyi who ever tells you to buy the ibeats by Dr. Dre are not doing you a favor. The sound quality on those headphones is terrible. I bought them and returned them within an hour. My $17 Phillips ones sound better then the ibeats. They are the worst headphones I have ever tried. Also they were not defective I had them exchanged as well before I returned them. They don't get loud at all.

I highly recommend this headset. Comfortable and high quality. Works better than expected.

I'm about to pick up a pair of the S4i's (thank goodness for friends who work at Future Shop). Awesome sound, and the centre button works with the GNex (and I'm pretty sure you can customize it with the Klipsch app, or another, just like the S4a).
Bonus of the S4i is that it'll still work to use with my iPod shuffle (relax, I only use it for working out)

I just picked up a pair today from BB an hour away from my location. They were only available there. So far, loving the crispness of these, and just wondering what you did to get the volume control to work?
Btw I bought these because I went through all these headphones and these were the only ones that looked really good at a great price. And you said they worked with all the buttons. If not it's no big deal, I'll just return them and find something else. Plus the bass is really lacking, I read it in the reviews but didn't think it would be this flat

Earphones w/ in-line mic ? Compatible?

Are headphones w/ in-line mic compatible with the EVO?
I'm not big on Bluetooth pieces and was wondering.....
Thanks.

NO, DON'T! IF YOU TRY TO USE THEM THEY WILL EXPLODE IN UR EARS!
But seriously, they will work fine. If they have an inline button it will even control your media apps.
If it works with an iOS device or Blackberry, and is the standard headphone jack (ie, not a headset jack) size, then it'll work.
</thread>
Yes they will work (using it now)but test them before buying as apple has started putting drm chip in some of them making it so you can't use mic /button on non apple hardware (I found that's true in some non apple brand ones too) and had a pair that didn't work with mine

i bought a pair of the klipsch s4i headphones. the play/pause button works, but not the volume up down buttons. the headphones rock, though. and, the mic on them works fine and dandy. i'd give 4/5 stars (only taking one off for the aforementioned volume up down problems) for the evo. they're designed for iphone, is why some button incompatibility.
they sound great though. i love them.
+1 on the Skullcandy fmj's, probably one the better sets of headphones I've used. Wear them all them while on my bike, great sound, blocks some of the sound of my loud pipes. I'd highly recommend them.

I think that the Evo just doesn't have any support for volume up/down. The mic and play/pause button are non-Apple standards (they existed before the iPhone was announced) but AFAIK the volume control is Apple specific.

Headphone control adapter

Does anyone know of a headphone adapter with control buttons on it that works with the galaxy note?
I want to be able to skip tracks and change volume while jogging.
I am looking for an adapter that will work with any headphones rather than headphones with built-in controls.
I have seen plenty advertised as working with iphones, but nothing specifically for android.

After a bit more research i have gone for the jabra bt3030. It seems bluetooth is the better option as the controls are standardised.

In general, the headphone with mic and controllers branded "for iphone" work also for android. Of course, it is a bit risky.

you can try the Sony Ericsson MW 600 bluetooth, it does what you are asking for and can work with any headphones.
Unfortunately reliability is a little suspect, after a few months of use mine quite simply... died

QFT. Having previously wired custom iphone headsets (and seen other posts regarding it), they will not work on android.
Buy a single-button iphone headset and Headphone Control (or jays headphone app) from the market.
Seriously though, the DAC on the GNote is bad enough that the Bluetooth audio was really not much worse than the headphone out. And I'm an audiophile
Finally please be aware that even though headsets will be marketed as compatible with both only the center button will work. You need Android specific volume controls
Maybe this is not answer you looking for,
But i'm using Poweramp apps and i can use gnote included headset's buttons to control volume, skip track or stop player.
any of the bluetooth solutions work well. I have the sony MW600 and also a pair of sennheiser BT headphones and both have headphone based volume, as well as buttons for pause, fwd, rewind.
just keep the device on max vol and adjust your headphone volume with the buttons.
there is also the new apt-x samsung dongle (hs3000? 300?) but unfortunately the note doesnt support apt-x (yet?)
Jabra BT3030
I use the above mentioned Jabra and it works like a charm...
Thanks everyone for your advice. The jabra bt3030 arrived today (25 euros delivered on ebay in Spain). Just went out for my first jog with it and it worked perfectly. The great thing about this solution is I can use the headphones of my choice.

I'm using a set of etymotic headphones designed for iphones and my mic doesn't work either. I think there is a small converter you can plug in between the phone and the headset that should make it work, but I don't need to use the mic and haven't really looked into it.

Same problem. It seems that headphones with the 3 button apple control do not work (mic + buttons except for the center button sometimes) and they don't even allow the phone's microphone to work while plugged in. I have used apple headphones and klipsch image s4i's.
The center button works fine for me. It's the only one that does. Using CM9, not sure if that makes any difference.
I use Klipsch Image S4A
best headphone for me so far
klipsch s4a
I had the intention of picking up the klipsch s4i when i was in bestbuy. The one i never go to happened to have the s4a which i did not know about. I've only had them a few hours but the main issue is finding a working remote, install the klipsch app and you can customize what the buttons do! Amazing headphones once again from klipsch, worth every bit of $45 premium sound and a android compatible remote with mic. I highly recommend them.

[Q] Headphones with in-line mic that work with Android/One X

I'm looking for some headphones, specifically in-ear ones, that work with Android and have a built in Mic and volume controls. I know that many of the ones made for iPod/iPhone don't work with Android properly so I want to make sure I don't make this mistake. I'd quite like the earphones to be good quality ones in the price range of £30 - £90 if possible. I've looked around but not found much. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm using ones from my SGSII. Work perfectly, nice deep base, mic works perfectly fine as well.
Overall, I'd say my SGSII headphones are surprisingly the best earbuds I ever had. To my ear, best frequencies.
So perhaps you can just buy SGSII replacement buds.
Beats in-ear earphones. At hmv they are reasonably cheap. I'm pretty sure you can find ones for less if you try gumtree or eBay. Just make sure they're genuine, Fake ones WILL break within a few days (past experience). http://m.hmv.com/product/details/171063 <---- those are really good quality, and well within your price range.

You should try these out. They are called a-JAYS ONE+, and they are made for android. They also have their own android app where you can customize the button to perform different functions (change track, adjust volume, launch apps etc) the app is called JAYS headset control. The headphones are really good themselves. I would have posted the links, but since I'm new I gotta wait. But I hope it helps

I tried looking for good over ear head phones everywhere for while, finally bought beats by dre Solo HD, however only one button works, the only way i got everything to work was by downloading app called Headset button form google market, which has allowed me to control everything on the phone.
1 click pause song, ans and disconnect call
2 clicks - next song
3 clicks - rewind songs
hold the button - volume up
click + hold button - volume down

Headphones recommendations...

Hey guys,
i love the stock in ear headphones but i'm struggling as to why samsung and apple can do remote control but HTC seem to only have 1 button!
I'd like to control volume, and also skip songs and go back, etc.
Anyone got any recommendations of headphones and how to get that functionality?
Cheers

Hi,
It will be hard to find an headphone with the remote control.I see the Beats headphones made for the HTC Sensation,it have 3 buttons specially made for HTC Devices. You also have the official HTC headphone with 3 buttons on the htc accessory website.
Most of others headphones on the market will be for Apple devices,it have 3 buttons but only the "accept/reject call" work on the One.
If I had to recommend you a good one,try the v-moda m80 silver(Smaller) or the V-moda m100(Bigger).it looks great with the One with some silver metal builds quality. The sound quality is great even you 're listening hip hop music or classical. It comes with 2 cable:1 for the Apple devices and 1 for Android devices(just with 1 mic button) and it's kevlar made, very hard to break
Look for :v-moda crossfade M-80 white overview, review on Youtube for the official videos
By the way, there is also an app called:"headset button controller" on google play store,it was great and I used it on my old HTC models, but didn't try on the One.You can assign some function on one button like double/triple press or holding.

Fry's has these for $140 this weekend. I'm trying really hard to resist. That's more than I've spent on what I consider my audiophile headphones.
I already have the Plantronics BackBeat GO, which has a similar form factor. They fit well, are mostly inconspicuous, and have good audio for a non-AptX headset. However the 3 hour battery life and lack of multi pairing are keeping me from putting them on unless I'm doing something where the cord gets in the way (for me, mostly lab work). I considered the LG Tone+, but I think they look doofy and I question the quality of the earbuds.
