[Q] contacts not going to cloud? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

1st of all, I'm on the ACS ICS
After the last time I had an issue, and had to do a nandroid restore, I realized none of my contacts are being sent/stored with he cloud. I lost all contacts I had entered into my phone since the last backup. What am I missing here?

You have to choose store contacts on Google each time you add one not phone. When you choose phone and wipe it, you wipe you contacts. Choose export contacts to Google (your gmail) now to have them there next time.

yeah...that its NOT even an option. It simply saves to phone, ONLY. There is no "settings" under the contacts "menu" to change it either

If you have a valid gmail account and are logged in (can you dl from the Market?) When you save a contact it should ask save on phone or save on google.

In contacts, hit the menu key and export, just export them to sd card for now.

Is there any chance that it once prompted you to choose Google or Phone, and you selected Phone AND checked 'default'??
I selected Google and checked 'default' and it no longer prompts me- it just saves to to Google without asking.

As far as "default" perhaps, but you should be able to switch back at any point, no?

BTW, for now?
Util WHEN? lol
I want this fixed, and it to work the way it was designed. Even the iPhone apologists agree this is one of the greatest advantages of the Android phone design, and now it doesn't work for me

Until you figure out how to clear your defaults and how to export them to your gmail. Go into settings>applications>manage applications>all and see if contacts, logsprovider, phone or dialeractivitytab have the option at the bottom to clear defaults. If you have not set any it will be greyed out.

NOPE!!!
No defaults in ANYTHING. I checked anything pertaining to contacts, phone/storage, and dialer.
I have lost sooooo many numbers because of this

Stop shouting man. Well then do as I suggested and export contacts to the sd card before you flash a new ROM. I would Odin back to stock EC05, create a contact and see if it asks where you want to store it. If the Google option is there then root, flash your ROM and redownload your apps or restore apps with Titanium but do not restore any system data.

Need to wipe, but I have a TON of numbers.

I want to upgrade to the latest Fresh ROM, but it requires a wipe.
Is there a way to backup my contacts and restore them after the wipe?
if your contacts are synced to your google account then they will be automatically restored after you login on first boot. to check, login with your gmail, click contacts, and hopefully they're listed there.
otherwise, search the market for contact backup and you should find tons of apps.
I'll do that, thanks!
All you got to is go to your contact app is called people the hit menu and export to sdcard if you want them back just do the same put this hit import hope that helps

On a side note, you can take that file you exported and import it into your google contacts.
Yeah that too

Multiple Google contacts...plz help!

Not sure how it happened, but for most of my contacts I have about 3 identical google profiles for...I noticed this when I go to send a text...I get about 3 cell #s, 3 home #s, etc for each person...wondering if there is something I'm missing to clear out? Thanks in advance, just mildly annoying

Might be a stupid question but..... have you checked your google account? Are they on there multiple times too?
Do you have more than one gmail account linked with your android phone? If so, do you also have these contacts on separate accounts?
Go to your contacts app and hit the menu button and check your display options too. See if something weird's going on there.
Or you can delete the data for your contacts through the Application manager and let it resync in case data was corrupted some how.

I actually get the same thing but I'm heavily modded and just live with it. For me I'm on 1.1 of Srf and running the honeycomb theme of amosher. Also sync across two main mail accounts with my mandatory Gmail account not being one of them.

Clear the google services framework data.
First, I must apologize for posting in the wrong forum...meant to put in Q&A...sorry. And thanks for the suggestions...I cleared the data in the contacts storage, clear google services framework...reset the sync...unfortunately nothing worked...just weird...shows like 3 linked google accts under every contact...I can delete them manually, but upon reboot, they come right back...oh well, guess I'll just deal with it too...thanks again!

Go to the sync settings and uncheck the Contacts option on all but one of them and then reset it again.
Login to Gmail on a PC and try merging duplicates under contacts/more actions.
Nicenice...yours was the winner...thank you! & thanks to all who responded, I appreciate it

Happened to me once.. I've always had my contacts on gmail, but I once used a different back up app that restored my contacts, suddenly, I had two gmail entries for every person.. both on my phone and in gmail.. solution was to go on gmail on a comp and delete dup contacts

Contacts gone!!

So my dad has the EVO 4g I'm pretty good with tech stuff but this I just can't figure out, his phone was acting werid so I did the first trouble shooting you do with anything power off power on however when we powered it on all the contacts were gone, when you look at view theres 900 contacts but with no phone number any ideas

Does he have a google account setup?? Because if he did is only a matter of signing to your Gmail and they all should be stored there.
Yes he does I thought the same thing I was like its fin Google backs it up but nope not there either
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
This may sound funny but could it be possible that he has more than one and you're not using the right Gmail account? Well in any case you can go into that Gmail account that he used from a computer and check if those contacts are there; now if the're not then I think is fair to say they're gone almost for sure... Now if they are there then we can figure out a way to get those back in there.

Is he on a stock rom or have you installed something non-stock for him? Also, as stated above, log in to contacts.google.com and see whats there. If they are there then go into accounts/sync, disable google contacts sync then reboot, connect to good wifi connection, and re-enable contacts sync.
If they aren't showing up in contacts.google.com theeeeeen I might try another reboot. Or maybe fix permissions if you are rooted and your recovery supports it.

Can't create new contact?

I apologize if this is a known issue, but i wasn't able to dredge anything up. Seems that I'm unable to create new contacts in my list. It works otherwise, i.e. I can call and/or text using the touchwiz shortcuts, but a no go for adding new numbers. It just freezes and then force closes.
Running 4.04 FH13, stock and unrooted. Next step is to delete them all and try to start over. Thoughts?

I dont think deleting all the contacts will help. Try removing your google account and then resyncing it. You could also try clearing Contact Storage data before resyncing to see if it helps.

Best contact backup app

What app do you guys use to back up your contacts? ( I know Google can store them, but I like to have my own backup)
I'm looking for an app that will backup their number and their current contact picture.
I've been using mobile backup 2, but when I go from a ice rom to a jb rom I lose their pictures.

Why do you need an app just export them from your phone and save the file thats it. Then import when you want them back?.... Not for nothing but with the simplicity of Google backing them up I don't think you are going to find people who need to back them up since its kinda useless... Like I said you can simply export/import them manually from your phone

The file is the same isn't it also you can import it into regular google. I guess you are and like to make things more difficult for your self than necessary I see as well. My Backup Root will handle it if you feel like you must do it
Contacts are automatically synced with your Gmail account.. There is no easier way to backup your contacts than that!.. As soon as you sign in on your phone your contacts will be there too
