Arc S 6MP vs 8MP? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just make a comparism by taking a picture in my room between the 6MP and 8MP.. I could see the 6MP shows more high quality than the 8MP.. but WHY?

Did you check the image in a larger screen? Laptop, tv etc.
I can just crop an 8MP image to get a 6MP one.
And you have a narrower field of view when using 6MP 16:9 photo size than 8MP.

i dont understand lol

In short. Quality is just the same. when selecting a 6mp the camera app just cut a 6mp portion from the 8mp.
Good example is..
1 Whole Paper = 8mp
1/2 = 4mp
1/8 = 2mp

but the 6mp fit 720p or 1080p screen, and 8mp doesnt

Simply because of the aspect ratio of 720p/1080p screens is 16:9. 8MP of the arc is 4:3.

then why people choose 8mp while the 6mp ratio is a size for computer resolution?

8mp is bigger you can make it smaller if you need to. 6mp is smaller you can't make it bigger

That's the same reason why I always prefer to take a far foto and then cut it rather than using digital zoom...

the pixels on your screen maches the picture

Is this a software problem? 5mbpx and 8mbpx shouldn't be this huge of a difference.
Did you let it focus? I've taken fantastic pictures.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Yup, manual focus by touching on "Toast".

What exactly is your problem with those pictures?
Focus point is different in both pictures btw, the darker pic has it on the "Lenovo" and the lighter picture in front of the cup, I think.
Both really. The camera module isn't all that great and better software makes a difference. I rested the MIUI camera software, camera FX and stock and stock software was by far the worst. That being said my old incredible took better pictures overall with the MIUI app.

Taking a picture of a scene with a lot of black and white can confuse the metering system of camera every easily. You would need to frame exactly the same scene to compare them. The camera is trying to average the whole frame to 18% grey, so if you have a lot of black in the scene, then black part will be closer to grey than black. A lot of white part will also be closer to grey than white.
From sample pictures I've seen GN's camera seems to lack some contrast, but gets more details out of darker area than other cameras, which also induces more noise in a poor lighting situation.
Not sure if this will do justice, hope it's not too compressed.

I think this picture also shows what I said. It shows more details from shadow areas than pictures from other phone cameras, but because of that it appears to be lack of contrast (washout look if you will). I think it's definitely correctable via software if they choose to do it.

thanks static and koolbon i think you might have nailed it. i will do another test on dark and light - this time letting the camera meter the same way as the NS. in my first test, the GN metering/focus was on the cup.
its hard to take the exact same frame, NS had the camera offset from centre.

Camera Comparison Shots

I know we have all heard about how 'bad' the camera on the Galaxy Nexus is. Most of the negative reaction to the camera is purely based on the megapixel count, not actual comparison shots. So, I thought it would be neat to actually see how the camera does in comparison to other smartphone cameras. I had a chance to test the Galaxy Nexus in comparison to the Samsung Galaxy S II, HTC Rezound, and HTC Droid Incredible. I took a picture of my cubicle wall with each, and then cropped each pic to a portion of the flag on my wall. I did not zoom in or out, merely cropped. Here is the result of my test:

Granted, this was a limited test in just one scenario, but I thought the Galaxy Nexus held it's own here. Anyone have any comparison shots they can share?
I could post a comparison, but it would be between the GN and nothing and the GN would win.
As it's the only phone and camera I carry everywhere with me and therefore it's the best one at any given time that I need a camera.
Gnex photo looks the sharpest. The stars are a little washed out compared to the GS2 though.
Wth is with the yellow tint from the Rezound?
I think people are basing the quality of the photos on Mega pixel alone. They see 5MP compared to 8MP and just disregard the actual quality of the picture.

i don't have a direct comparison, but here's a couple of panoramic shots.
this one was taken with my Rezound:

Yeah, the color on the Rezound, at least indoors under artificial light, is a little off. I took several shots and they all had that yellowish look to them.

Is the ZF2 camera supposed to be this grainy?

Is it maybe cause of crappy lighting? every time i take a room in my pictures are all grainy
Im using cm13 and all normal settings on google camera

me with stock asus zen ui
the pictures took by my zen2 also grainy
even worse in low-light condition
Sent from my ASUS_Z00AD using XDA-Developers mobile app
Yeah, low light always make photos grainy, on every phone.
Low light photos are usually grainy. Photos taken in CM are grainier than stock because CM doesn't have full access to all the camera optimisations. The zenfone's toshiba sensor is also pretty poor in dealing with uneven lighting - bright areas get blown out and darker areas get very grainy. I enjoy the photos the zenfone takes in well-lit situations, and just accept its limitations otherwise. It's just a phone camera in a cheap phone, after all.
Yup. Without Pixelmaster's optimizations, you'll get those kinds of pictures.
Grainy pics are due to using a high ISO. On a SLR you fix this by manually turning down the ISO, opening the aperture, and increasing the shutter speed. ALL CELL PHONE CAMERAS SUCK, so if you want better photos buy a Nikon DSLR.
Sent from my ASUS_Z00AD using XDA-Developers mobile app
Yes that is normal for ZF2, and you get same or even worse pics with PixelMaster (what that apparently does is first smudges the grains out and then applies a sharpening filter, so if you zoom in it looks like the picture was painted with a brush). Even if you reduce the ISO and change shutter speed to 1/2 second in manual mode the result is still grainy.
Yeah, I turned off optimization to get rid of the painted look. The digital modifications were awful. Much better to modify the pic in Photoshop.

Question Anyone has JPG/Raw Samples of Fold 4?

Hi,
thinking about getting an fold4,
i'm wondering if anyone could share some full jpg/dng samples? Just landscape or city scene or something
Hard to find some, i just found some processed/resized images here and there in review.
Would make me happy
Thanks & have a nice sunday
I've actually being comparing the photos from the 4 with my old S21U. Essentially the S21U shots are a tiny bit better, but not enough 4 is surprisingly close. Excluding x10 optical zoom ofcourse.
No perceivable shutter lag, though AF isn't as quick as on the S21 U, especially for close up subjects.
Overall am very happy with the shots out of the Fold.
x3 lens full res jpg, first is HDR shot, 2nd portrait mode hand held.

Main lens portait mode and night mode.
thanks a lot,
the grass is not really there, just a muddy greenish plane
but hdr and 3x zoom, still seems quite wide for 3x lens.
the second shot looks better, but. even there is dithering?/ too less color resolution?
portrait mode else looks quite ok to get photoraphs without too much crazy-going colors?
s20 ultra pictures always looked so unrealistic.

If you are talking about the sun set shot, the exposure was unbelievably challenging, I'm actually really happy with what the camera was able to produce. To the naked eye, all you can see is blinding sunlight .
Here are some 'normal' shots, the over warm colors is simply a Samsung thing....see below, wide angle, normal, and x3. These shots are basically the same as what my S21 U would do. Clearly no x10 optical.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the cameras on the Fold 4.
I also have the S21U and I think the HDR is better on the Fold 4.
Maybe the CPU.
Anyways I took good looking pictures, that was a thing I was worried about
Next time I'm gonna take both my phones to make a real comparison.
Here is some samples in 12 mpx.
