Australian Galaxy nexus bad signal and drop outs - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I just received the galaxy nexus and got it from optus Australia, ever since geting it 4 days ago the reception keeps dropping out and data fails to work at optimal speed as it used to in my HTC wildfire or my iPhone 4, I've flashed android revolution hd , kang, and currently using foxhound and all have updated apns. Wonder is my device just a doggy one or is everyone else in Australia getting the some problem?

Try putting a different baseband on your phone. You should be able to find your countries carrier on the forums here. Just search.

LMAO! Rough man.
On-topic though, all good with mine on Telstra bud. Have you tried the latest APN at Ausdroid? Not sure if the Optus one has been updated recently... May also work if you try setting your radio to AUS by default, link and how-to coming shortly (I'll just find it).

haha im with telstra, brought it from optus.

do you happen to have any links to the baseband download? thanks.

I figured that as soon as I posted You should resurrect that Australian traders' thread in the MP.
- Go to the Dialer
- Dial *#*#4636#*#*, go to Phone Information
- Press MENU, "Select Radio Band" and select AUS2
- Reboot for good measure
This is supposed to optimise your radio to maximise use of the 850MHz band and stop it hopping off to 2100MHz in Metro areas.
Also use the following APN settings:
Name: Telstra Internet
APN: telstra.internet
MCC: 505
MNC: 01
Authentication: PAP or CHAP
APN type: internet
Some people recommend putting 'wap.telstra.com/wap' in the Server field. You should only use this if you need the Telstra portal, otherwise it just adds another link into the chain that isn't really necessary. TelstraOne will work just fine without it.
Let me know how you get on.

Yeh I've got same problem but after the update to 4.0.2 it got slightly better , I'm also on optus but got my phone from mobicity.
Its little annoying.

when i click the AUS2 Band and it came up with "Set [AUS2 Band] Unsuccessful is there an issue wioth my device? :S

also, i acccidently changed the network prefered type, what should it be?

hey ive got it all done, ill give you a heads up tomorrow and see how it runs for a day, because previously i was in the CBD and it was still slow as hell so ill give you a heads up if i have any problems, but the signal is on full when it was on 3 bars before

Not necessarily. Perhaps flashing the DVKK6 baseband (Telstra) may help. Unsure. If it has an Optus radio they may have done something to prevent it favouring 850MHz. This is just speculation on my part dude, it works fine on my Telstra unit. Perhaps this is one of the 'optimisations' Telstra made on their model.

No worries man, I hope it goes a bit better for you. I'm rural and getting 3.3mbps down, 1.2mbps up which is marginally better than my Galaxy Note. Considering I'm probably on a 5.7 or 7.2mbps backend, that's pretty good. No drop-outs either.
Good luck buddy.

ive had probles flashing the DVKK6 Baseband, it came up with "cannot load (radiio name in this case the DVKK6.img) is there something wrong with it? :S

Make sure you use the trimmed .img in post 6, not the one from the OP. Unzip it first (before you try and flash it) as it contains the MD5 hash also and this will stop the process (or worse).
Use fastboot to push it to your Nexus.

alright, thanks, it worked! thanks juzz! number 1 to come to! haha, ill see how i go with reception for the week. Cheers.

You may need to change your SMSC buddy. I think it's in the menu where you change the radio to AUS2. I'll need to look up the correct number for you once I get to work. Sit tight man
EDIT: Okay. Enter the *#*#4363#*#* code, then go into phone info. Scroll to the bottom, you will see a field for SMSC. Refresh the field, and see what it contains. Mine is this:
07911614786007f0
You could try putting this in if yours is different. Let me know how you get on.

That's fine. It will only handoff to GSM where there's no 3G. As long as you're on AUS2, preferred order is 850, 2100, GSM

Lost 2g after flashing to JPC on Bell i9000m

After messing around with the nvdata and associated files for hours to get my sim card recognized after the flash to JP3 I got my phone working with help from xda I managed to get hspa working but not 2g. So on the highway I can only use signal for emergency calls. Can anyone give me a hand with this please.
I had to go out of down directly after flashing hence not having time to figure it out.

Bell does not operate on EDGE (2G) network.
I must only be getting hspa then. It works in any of the cities but not on the highway.

I discovered the same thing yesterday driving from Edmonton to Calgary and back. I found Electroz posts and spent today flashing firmwares etc. I bought an unlocked version of the SGS and used Kies the first time to update. That was about 3 weeks ago and it applied DXJG4 which I figured, based on the revisions letters and numbers, makes my phone an Asian based unit.
I am guessing here but my hunch is that the DX version doesn't have the correct radios for Bell. I went the Bell site and checked my IME for compatibility and came back as a no go even though Bell has activated my sim card and I get my normal service etc.
Today I ended up flashing with WJM7 and used the Bell CMC. I followed Electroz #*272...... procedure....it was also part of the WJM7 flashing steps. With the Bell CMC the APN section had three different ones available but not the standard pda.bell.ca so I added that one and that is what I am using now.
The other three are AGPS, Browser and Tethered Data and are pre-configured. I had read a thread from a few days ago where a guy was getting charged huge sums of cash by using the inet.bell.ca settings and finally after fighting with them for a couple of days, bell tech support got him using the pda.bell.ca settings. They assumed he was tethering iirc. So I am leery of trying out one of these other APN's.
When I enter the service menu it is showing the network status as WCDMA 1900 Band 2. Is there another way to check the functionality of the 850MHz band without having to actually drive out of town to test it?
Thanks

Phone Keypad *#*#0011#* While viewing your band switch from wireless on then off from your top notification bar and you'll see it switch to 850 band before quickly going back on 1900 Band 2 when you hook back up to HSPA
Thanks Woolios. Tried it out this morning. All lot of numbers are changing in there when toggling the WiFi on and off but I can't see anything that indicates 850 being active.
I get a 3G briefly at the top of the screen but the line where the WCDMA and State are just disappear at that time and then reappears once HSPA connects.

+1 mkurzum is right about fixing the problem as I've goon through this whole step with flashing JPC and finding out it looked very nice but did not function with telus infact the only Wireless provider it would locate would be Rogers... Pft of all networks to come up lol but anywayz. The method I described about will tell you if your phone is switching from 850 band to 1900 or VS if your not seeing the 850 then your not connecting to it and should follow the above post. Don't forget to back up your apps
I have no problem getting my 850 to work on another build like jm6 when using a different csc/modem file. I am trying to get it to work with jpc.
None or at least very few of the key pad codes such the star-pound thing work with jpc on my phone.
It was the 850mhz that isnt working at least. But other then going out of town I don't know how to test it.

Are you sure its a GSM network? As far as I know, the galaxy s is incompatible with cdma networks. I could be wrong tho.
Sent from my LG-P930
Movistar in Spain uses GSM, not CDMA, but the bands are not the same for 3G, that'e your problem. You won't get 3G on Europe, only in the US with AT&T, Canada with almost any carrier, and any country from Mexico to Argentina.
Maybe in Australia/India you can have 3G, I don't know, but there are some members with a Glide from India, they can answer this better than me.
Thank you, I'm stupid, I should havechecked that before buying the phone

I think I may have good news for you, check this:
http://www.unlockit.co.nz/mobilesettings/settings.php?id=27
There's a good chance you have to set the APN settings manually, the above link shows you how to do this. These are the settings that tell your phone how to get onto the data network, if those are not already in the phone or set automatically. Give it a try, your problem has occurred more often and this was the solution!
Setting the APN manually should get internet working, but since the phone doesn't support the bands needed for 3G in Spain, that won't solve the 2G only problem. Still, working 2G data should make it at least fairly usable until you acquire a phone that supports your local bands.
Perhaps not in Spain then, but it works elsewhere in Europe. I live in The Netherlands and I get 3G. Haven't looked into the frequency bands, but it all works perfectly here. There are several other European users here, and I've never read anything about not having 3G because of frequency band issues.

[Q] Signal issues i747 on T-mobile. Any help or suggestions appreciated!

I have an unlocked AT&T i747 on T-mobile's $30 100 min unlimited text, and 5GB 4G data plan.
It is running a fitsnugly nightly build of CM 10.1 for d2att
Was previously running Leankernel and now i'm running Ktoonsez's kernel
I unlocked using this method.
The Issue: My signal switches between H+, 3G, E, and rarely G. All while being in the same spot. It spends 90% of the time on E.
This happens in areas of great reception, indoors and out.
Rarely will H+ happen and 3G is very sporadic too.
I live in the heart of a major city (Boston) where T-mobile is prepping LTE so I can get their 3G/4G on the refarmed 1900MHz and without AWS.
My IMEI is listed in the status section.
What I've tried:
Before doing any modding of my phone, I previously backed up my EFS/IMEI with Andromizer (XDA link). Restoring it hasn't changed anything.
Changing network modes (LTE/WCDMA, LTE/GSM/WCDMA, GSM/WDCMA preferred)
Enabling/disenabling data roaming
Changing APN settings (The choices were T-Mobile US and T-Mobile US LTE)
So would flashing Tmobile radios help? Tmobile/d2tmo ROMs?
TL;DR: MY ATT I747 ON TMOBILE WONT KEEP THE H+ OR 3G SIGNAL AND IT SUCKS AND MAKES ME WANT TO CRY. PLZ HELP PLZ PLZ PLZ
Seriously though, any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone! If you need anymore info Just let me know.

This is pretty frustrating. I changed my modems to an older ATT one, and now I only get 3G sporadically and 90% of the time its on G. So odd...
Also I'm pretty sure I'm specifically not supposed to flash a T-mobile modem....

Try *#2263# and change WCDMA band preference to WCDMA 1900 and run a speed test... I don't know the spectrum numbers for NYC but it might be constrained with the pending LTE launch on Band 4. If that works keep in mind that 1900 doesn't penetrate buildings very well - that being said, it should still be faster than .5Mbps as T-Mobile has better tower placement than Sprint who uses the same band for EVDO.
Otherwise you can try a different baseband. I like MD5 but LI8 is a close second for me.
EDIT: Fixed command from the incorrect 2663 to the correct 2263

Yeah that's what I was afraid of. It seems like you're in a fringe area. 1900 is the default used for non-3G calls (its where GSM resides)... You could try flashing another radio but it sounds like you have a legitimate signal issue. Flashing another ROM could potentially fix it but its doubtful.

[Q] C6506 LTE Issues

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone else has experienced a similar issue. I bought this ZL (C6506) from newegg brand new and loved the hardware. Needed to get software on par so I rushed to get CM10.1 on it. Never noticed which model it was on stock or if LTE ever worked but on CM10.1 it says it's a C6503.
I've spent all last night making sure I did this right. Unlocked bootloader and rooted using the latest Flashtool for Mac. Installed CWM and then flashed CM10.1 kernel before flashing the ROM. Still says I have a C6503 and there is no LTE to be found.
In Settings under Network Mode, the phone keeps pushing itself back to "WCDMA preffered" even after I set it to something else. I have the phone on fast.tmobile.com for the APN.
This is uber frustrating and I'd love some help getting this to be the phone of my dreams. Great form factor...now I just want the LTE speed and CM software to complete this package. Thanks all for all you do.

i checked as soon as the model number started showing "C6503" in the phone. box seems legit. newegg doesn't even sell the C6503. i may just revert everything and RMA it.
Confirm your model on the tag inside the SIM/MicroSD compartment , you need to unfold the tag though. Check out the Xperia ZL tear down video to see what i'm talking about: http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/07/08/xperia-zl-disassembly-video/ .
If in fact it's a C6506, try flashing one of the stock 4.2.2 rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332539
All CM and CM based ROMs will say the model is a C6503, the builds are not made specifically for each model but the baseband is not touched.
Did you flash a baseband from another phone? Check under Phone Status what your baseband is.
You can also try using the *#*#4636#*#* secret menu, under phone information, and pick LTE only from that screen.
Are you sure T-Mobile has LTE where you are? Even if the APN is wrong, under the Phone Information menu you should see the phone attach to LTE. If it won't connect to data, change the apn to fast.t-mobile.com.

Confirm your model on the tag inside the SIM/MicroSD compartment , you need to unfold the tag though. Check out the Xperia ZL tear down video to see what i'm talking about: http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/07/08/xperia-zl-disassembly-video/ .
If in fact it's a C6506, try flashing one of the stock 4.2.2 rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332539

at this point i'm not sure what i've done. baseband version says "9x15A-ACEFWMAZQ-30110041-23". i really hope this may be the root of my issue. i'm based in atlanta and i have tons of friends on tmobile picking up lte while i'm still on hspa+ or some sort of 3g in the same spot. have not seen lte at all. how would one go and reflash the radio? thanks.

That's the same baseband version I have, so your radio is fine. Did you try doing the LTE only option?
You could also have an old SIM card, can you get LTE on another phone with your SIM card?
