galaxy w tv-out? - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

i put a question on the Samsung question page for the galaxy w about how to get the phone to connect to a tv without allshare as we don't have that option.
it seems hard to word it how they want as they declined the question first time round but eventually accepted it and stated that i could use a 3.5mm to rca tv out cable but didn't state if anything needed to be done to enable a setting anywhere. now they won't allow the extra question so i just tried it in the tv but no good.
am i missing a setting somewhere maybe?
the posts that generally come up if i google it are for the galaxy s which has a specific setting for tv-out but the W doesn't.

bump, any ideas guys?

Don't know why but I do have all share on my phone if its missing from yours I guess you just have to add it.
see this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465668

thanks for the reply mate.
i do have allshare but the tv doesn't utilise it as it's a Sony unless i am missing something.
thanks again, any other suggestions guys?

i spoke to samsung today who at first said the W could use a 3.5mm rca cable and to just enable tv-out in the display settings. when i told her that setting wasn't there she said she'd look into it more and get back to me, guess what, she didn't.
is this maybe a software thing with the hardware part being possibly capable of doing it or the opposite?
thanks guys

As far as I know, you can't do that directly.
I think the only way is to hook your computer/laptop to the TV and then use something like this method described here - howtogeek.com/howto/42491/how-to-remote-view-and-control-your-android-phone/ to stream the live video feed from your phone to your computer - and thus to your TV.
But again, I'm not entirely sure that you can't just directly hook the phone to the TV.

hi all!!! everyone have a nokia cable tv to try??? or a micro usb -> hdmi to try it??? i want to buy but i'm not sure if is good for own galaxy W....sorry for my bad english

Got to admit it sucks not having TV-Out when they say you do. I'm sure the phone is more than capable to do this.

I just tried the tv-out thing with a hdmi adaptor made by samsung and it dosent work at all.

I tried that and all I could get was sound and no picture. I even tried it by plugging the leads into a scart converter and still no luck. Care to explain how you got it working as I can't see any TV-Out option at all like in the Galaxy S?

RGA cable.. it had red yellow and white right.? maybe try to mix with other colors.. like red cable place into yellow. yellow cable place into red. and white cable place into white make a combination until it get color or as i read... they said... go to display.. then tv out.. ( not very sure coz i dont have my 2.5m-3.5m jack converter .. ( since i gonna use my old nokia RGA cable jajaja ) ( and sorry for my very bad english )
BTW.. someone said on other forums..
Code:
I do agree that there is need of 3.5mm jack to the RCA TV out cable . [B]you have to enable tv-out into the display settings.[/B] you can also use DLNA if the your TV is having support for that. It is working great with this particular phone and Samsung or LG devices.
thats what they said

Yeah it had the red, yellow, white. Unlike the Galaxy S there is no option under display to enable TV-Out or in the AllShare either.

Ive tried too with an tv out cable from an old samsung omnia hd,it didnt work, even with an n95 nokia cable, nothing happened.seems that on the wonder, this posibilitty,is not part of his hardware.much of that,i dont know ....

Honestly speaking there is no support
o O From My Ancora o O

Seems strange that Samsung in their 'Galaxy W' page of questions say it is possible with a rga cable. Just a shot in the dark and probably wrong but would it be feasible to take the TV-Out apk (if that's what it's called) from the galaxy S and put it on the W to try. Looking at this page but can't see it so probably not. Also way above my knowledge.
Just spoke to Samsung US support and the guy I spoke to said the US version does support Tv-Out through HDMI cable. He couldn't confirm though whether the European version did!

Visitor: I have the Galaxy W and in you q & A page it says it has TV-Out but I need a RGA cable. Well I've tried this but there is no tv-out option on the phone under display. How do I enable it
Daniel: I understand that you want to connect your device to the TV. Is that correct?
Daniel: Did you purchase the device in US?
Visitor: no, uk
Daniel: As we are in chat support troubleshoot technical issues related to Samsung US devices. We do have details about Samsung US devices. We do not have any information regarding non U.S. devices.
Daniel: Yes, some US Galaxy models do have TV-out and can connect the device to TV using HDMI cable.
Visitor: ok, thanks. But can you confirm the us version supports hdmi out?
Daniel: Yes, US model does support HDMI cable.

NO its unfortunate but there appears NOT to be an HDMI cable coming for our phone. The only wired method for video is Composite and maybe S-Video, but that will NOT be HD.
Your best best is DLNA. I would highly suggest getting a device that can run either XBMC or Boxee as both support an always evolving list of codecs, removing any worry of playback though DLNA.
What are you dislikes abut adding a DLNA capable streamer to your TV?
so... i have a brand new 50" 8000 series Samsung plasma that DOES support DLNA. does that mean i can stream video off my phone?!
EDIT: omg! this is awesome. streaming wireless...perfectly! using allshare.

Is this confirmed working with the vibrant? It says needs software update to work, last time I read that was for the dock and it required 2.2.
This again? That cable is old news. It was confirmed to NOT work. Samsung also said themselves that it won't work. Unfortunately, not all areas of the internet have been cleaned up appropriately. The site linked to in post #4 even says it won't work until Samsung makes it work.

Anyone get USB on-the-go (HOST) working

The European SGII does USB hosting with the proper adapter. I ordered this one
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005GGBYJ4
nothing happens when I connect my phone to a FAT 32 formatted thumb drive. The thumb drive works in my Acer Iconia.
I wonder if I got a bad adapter or if Sprint disabled On-The-Go.
I can't seem to get it working either. Anyone know a way to enable it. I really wanted this phone for this feature.
from what I've seen on youtube the "host" message pops up as soon as the cable is plugged in. No enabling required. These were all European SGSII though. Samsung's own Epic 4G touch claims it works
http://www.samsung.com/us/article/tips--tricks-epic-4g-touch#CLIP
No host for Sprint & TMO
Client only per PDADB.net
AT&T will get the OTG host capabilities.
WHAT! WTF. That means the samsung site is wrong or Sprint actually went out of their way to disable this feature.
There has to be a way to re-enable it like what was done on the HTC HD2. I hope the source proves useful in providing the solution to unlock the feature which is advertised.
The review model AnandTech had appeared to have USB host working ... so if it doesn't work on store models, it should be a firmware issue.
Note that I don't have an E4GT, I'm just thinking with you.
If on the E4GT, you can find "DSLR Controller" in the market, at least the firmware reports that it is supporting USB host ... (if it doesn't, the app will not show up in Market)
Thanks for the issue. How difficult would it be for someone to work on a firmware modification? What does it entail? Where would one start?
crap. that was also one of the main points i decided to upgrade. also i had just moments before ordered that same USB host...
DSLR Controller beta shows up in the market from my phone.

Well then, as I said, the phone is actually reporting to Google that it does support USB host. Maybe they made some other mistake ? The Xoom on Android 3.1 has the same issue, USB host only half works (fixed in 3.2)
EDIT: Also, have you considered bad cables? I have read recently a lot of these OTG cables are pretty crappy and may not work. Note that popping in just the OTG cable without anything attached should already flash a notification at you (though the actual popup only happens when you connect a device)
yes I considered it.
my original post "I wonder if I got a bad adapter or if Sprint disabled On-The-Go."
I have another cable on the way so I will rule it out. It would still be nice to see if only me and JAmerican have this issue, Is it disabled? Did we get broken phones?

I doubt our phones are defective. I believe Sprint disabled the feature. The cable I have works because I used it on my Treo 800w and had no problems.
Just tried the cable and drive in a E4GT demo in a Sprint store. No host message.

Samsung shows USB Host support here:
(sorry, cant post outside links, yet)
samsung.com/us/article/tips--tricks-epic-4g-touch#USB
I have five different OTG cables, none work. Must be a firmware issue.
I do have three SGSII OTG cables.
Update: Just emailed Samsung Support... We wait...
If host is disabled (and it looks that way) I doubt there is anything we can do about it. There is NO mention of USB Host on any Sprint website or publication. It does look like the hardware is capable so maybe someone will grab the European drivers and roll them into a flashable update.

I fear that Samsung will just remove it from their site and deny such a feature exists on the Sprint version.
there could be hope http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265429&page=18
I believe that Sprint/Samsung disabled this feature because when I checked the Samsung website it showed the micro USB to USB cable and from one day to another (the supported devices) changed from the Epic 4G touch to the Att and T-Mobile variants

Micro USB to HDMI (new link)

Hi,
Is this item will work with our phones?
Link changed:

That's from a Mac to a TV
Sent from my HTC_A510c using Tapatalk
Yep. As far as I can see, this is a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI cable. This will NOT work on your phone. The cable simply won't fit in your device.
Wrong link
Sorry wrong link i copied ,this one i'm talking about.

A quick Google and YouTube search showed me that there are more people who use such a device and that you can indeed use it to connect your phone (HTC WildFire S) to a TV. So it should work. But before you buy it, make sure to check if your TV has an HDMI jack and make sure you have an HDMI to HDMI cable, else you should buy one.

I am asking for wildfire s
I checked out the ends from the pics and they are indeed micro usb. So theoretically it will work. But in practice... You'll probably have to be the guinea pig to try it. But if you succeed, it may just make you a legend 'round here.
In my opinion you might need to code a it in a rom so that it recognises and gives you something "out" on the TV

I'm sure they are talking about there own MHL cables. Which they product for few htc devies. ( like this one http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_item.aspx?i=209996 )

I don't think it'll work. I asked them about the MHL functionality of the MicroUSB port of the HTC Wildfire S and the guy said that it can't be done. Sure, you can try, but I don't think it's possible... It would most likely be a waste of money. But then again, if you feel like you have too much money, go for it.
EDIT: If you do go for it, I cannot take responsibility when it doesn't work or when it damages your phone, bank account balance or whatever. It will be YOUR responsibility..

I really have no idea what you're trying to say, but ehhm, the guy I spoke to at the HTC Helpdesk told me it is possible to link your phone to your TV with DLNA, if you have the proper equipment for it (he said you could then share your phone's screen via WiFi).
I know DLNA thing. my tv have dlna. but i want to play game or use apps /web browser on my tv (+bluetooth keyboard etc)( LIVE STREAM). I searched on google and saw wildfire s using 5 pins micro usb and this cable is 5 pins to 19 pins . I think im going to order a cheap cable from ebay.
But still maybe i will need tv out app (few android devices have settings for tv out) so rom makers please go for it

You need a MHT Compliant Micro HD to Full HD Cable. Many of the cheap cables in the market are made for Galaxy S2 with its 10 pin layout. They don't work for Galaxy S3 with its 11 pin layout. If its work related and want reliable cable then I'd suggest buy from Samsung or a Samsung Branded one on Amazon.
If you want Portable Android on TV then take a look at Smart Stick in my signature.

I'll ask here instead of starting my own thread, I have a similar question. I had TW 4.1.2 and a S3 specific hdmi connector cable that worked just fine for plugging my phone into my tv. I've since switched to a CM11 based rom and the cable no longer works. I want to play movies from my phone on my tv, What's the best way to do this?
