[Q] [Help] current CM9 versions couldn't use ad-hoc - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For CM7, I've successfully let my kindle fire connect my WiFi hotspot of my android mobile through ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher.apk.
I've tried several versions of CM9, seems no current versions could find/connect ad-hoc WIFI, ever using ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher.
Anyone got the same situation? or get any solution? thanks

Just to confirm that I can connect my Kindle running the latest ICS to my HTC sensation hotspot service.

use ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher or any other tools? or directly?
Would you share which version of CM9 you use now? it's appreciated if you could add the URL. thank you

As far as I know, his sensation hotspot service runs in infrastructure mode and is not adhoc. I don't understand your post either, because all hotspots are infrastructure, unless someone went and changed the name for marketing purposes.

That one for sure has working adhoc. Not sure on the others.

It would have adhoc working. But no hw codecs, renderscript or other 3.0 kernel goodness.

Well that's no good. 3.0 kernal goodness is a must now. Any way the kernel can be updated to include adhoc support?

I was told about this merge in the CM sources:
http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#/c/15209/
Apparently, as of 5/5 CM has merged ad hoc access into their wpa 8 source.

Mlb at Bat 2012

Anyone been able to get video streaming available on the new at bat app? I'm a mlb.TV premium subscriber and have access on my Touchpad running CM9 which is not officially supported. But no option to watch on the officially supported DInc2 running Liquid Smooth CM7. I only have access to audio, no TV option...
Update: mlb.com support was clueless so must be something in the build.prop in Liquid Smooth ... I edited it to show as a Nexus and works perfect now. Just need to see what the difference is between mine and a stock DInc2 build.prop file

im running a custom recovery on mines can i still update?
Do u have international version or us version,? You should have the option under settings / more settings if your using the latest jelly bean rom. I don't see the harm in trying the intended updated.

Samsung haven't released a firmware for the us model with allshare capabilities yet. Sorry. You can always upgrade to jelly bean and install Flash from else where

You can flash any UVALH2 roms which is still ICS and will have this feature. That option is not Jellybean specific. I recommend the one below assuming you're rooted.

Allshare cast was added to the latest ICS OTA (T999UVLH2) and not Jelly bean specific (there's no need to upgrade to Jellybean).

Or you can flash a custom rom based off that version if you have custom recovery (CWM or TWRP).
Current Version of ICS
Version:
Android version 4.0.4/Software version T999UVLH2
Approved 8/16/2012
New Feature
AllShare Cast
Improvements:
Resolved the error, ‘Enter MAC address' after entering the correct MAC address in the Mobile HotSpot configuration page if the MAC address entered did not contain the colons ) or spaces.
Resolved issue where the contents of a Home screen folder would be rearranged alphabetically after a reboot.
Resolved issue where the name does not populate when trying to add a contact with NameID information, you must manually add.

I think allshare cast is to be used with an allshare cast dongle so it may be looking for that. Do you have the dongle? I dont think any samsung TV has this feature on TVs yet. It basically allows mirroring of your phone to your tv just like using and HDMI cable but its wireless. There's also allshare play where you can connect to a TV via DLNA and play video, picture, and music from your phone to your tv.

[Q] Personal Hotspot?

Just wondering, is there any app or Rom that let's me host a hotspot even if I don't have 3g or wifi connection? I have heard that you can do this on the S3, so can we do it on the Fire? Does it even have the necessary hardware?
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium
You want to use your kindle fire as a personal hotspot?
The S3 can share its Internet from its data connection.
The fire had no data connection (absent WiFi)
This not possible if I understand you correctly (which I had trouble understanding what your asking)

Wi-Fi is not absent, cellular connection such as 4g is absent. You might be able to create an ad hoc network between the fire and another device but it would be pretty pointless except for sharing GPS location from phone to kf. The kf has no network capabilities other than Wi-Fi.

That is not what saying absent WiFi means
Saying absent WiFi does not mean WiFi is absent. Two different phrases in the English language with absolutely opposite meanings
In this context it means aside from wifi

I have never heard of such an odd use for the word but I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Where did you pick up this really peculiar definition for the word "absent"??

Sounds like he wants to set up a mesh network.

Removed because this argument is rediculous and because of thepooch's post below. You are simply wrong and I refuse to continue a conversation about the English language with you.
Haha guys stick to the subject which I think is pretty much moot. As far as I know the kindle is not capable of generating it's own hotspot.

See that one I can handle, as it uses the word with its correct definition I.e. to be missing. I have just not been able to find a definition of the word that in any way resembles "aside from".
This post has indeed gotten way off topic lol

.-. I intended to say that the s3 is capable of hosting a wireless hotspot without 4g, 3g or wifi. So it's a wifi hotspot that doesn't provide Internet connection. A local connection.

I have been able to connect the kf to a cell phone that has no cellular service just to transmit GPS data for navigation software but never been able to get the kf set up as an open connection even using the same software.

I just tried on twa_priv's ROM to setup a hotspot with Wireless Tether (root required), and it did not work. So I don't think that you can setup a hotspot on the KF

Just saw that the Nexus 7 (and possibly the Nexus 7 2013) suffer from gradual slowdown. Lagfix (from the Play Store) was recommended for it.
I'd like to get one of these, but I don't really need it - I have my Kindle HD that I enjoy immensely - I don't have a fast enough 'net connection (DSL) to stream video and I don't play a lot of games. Darn, I hate being practical ...

If you're talking about the TRIMM support type of fix released just recently, I'm not sure if it works for the KF. There is a page on it in the portal and I'm waiting to see the update before I try it myself.
Has anyone tried it yet? I'm quite interested.

404 - so it's safe to run lagfix on a KF1 running CM10.1??
Well, I just checked on my KFHD, and the kernel does not support TRIMM, so it probably wouldn't work for the KF1 either. I'm not sure if Hashcode plans to add support in later versions, but it's something to look into.

Tethering to ps3 on jellybean?

I've done a lot of research and I'm aware of foxfi able to do this by enabling the proxy built in but will only work when I a ice cream sandwich Rom or later.. To my understanding jellybean rid of this useful feature to become useless.. Is there any workaround anyone have that works.. I can't even get the Internet sharing from my wired note 2 to pc to share out to work.. It sends out a ad-hoc signal which I've read that ps3 don't read.

Yes you can Wifi Tether. You must be rooted though and install a custom ROM. Go over to ptmr3's JediX or Jedi Master ROM over in the Android development section and give one of those a run! CM10.1 works great as well (i find that AOSP ROMs have faster USB Tether speeds).
You can tether your Wifi Connection to a USB Hub on a Desktop (Not sure about PS3) and it will work fine. 4G/3G works great as well!
I can't seem to get it to connect the best thing I can have it do is use foxfi and it will see it but won't have a Internet connection thru the ps3
