[IDEA] Windows Phone Badge - Windows Phone 7 Software Development

Hi,
It's a simple Idea which I got while travelling yesterday.
While I was travelling, my co-passengers loved the way I use my phone and WP design and responsiveness. However they don't know that WP7 exist and didn't have enough courage to ask me, though they kept on looking my phone by comparing with thier android.
So I got an Idea, We can have a very simple app [Windows Phone Badge].
1. Create a Landscape tile [like Pictures/Calendar] and pin to Homescreen
2. This tile should display "Windows Phone 7.5 Mango" with caption "Put People First"
3. Ability to change background colors for every 3sec/duration.
That's all. As application it has nothing except settings to select the duration for live tile update.
It's simple and very interesting app which is a Badge for WP users.
Anyone interested to develop? [hardly takes 1 hour]

Is the point of this just so the user see's its a WP7 device, or is there another reason?

Just it's a Wp7 device with some live tiles experience.

There could be a problem. I think only OEM's are allowed to make 2x1 tiles. Devs cannot do that for their apps.
This is what I managed using custom tiles maker.

is that so?

I'd suggest a simple solution to the OP. Try using a wp7 lockscreen

Nice work justhink. M not sure if I'd use this but this can help the OP for sure.

It's awesome. But can you add some tiles to that wallpaper and make it clear black

here is a transparent wall paper version and a solid dark background version

Stars pack. These are also 75% transparant:
The lockscreen becomes transparant when there is an animation, so when you touch it is tranparant.
Download:
WP7 Wallpapers.zip
Stars Pack.zip
Windows logo pack.zip
How to:
1. First download the zip file with the wallpapers.
2. Mail the wallpaper you want to yourself.
3. Go to the mail with your Windows Phone.
4. Tap on the pic in the mail. This will download it. Like pictures in e-mails.
5. Open the pic.
6. Don't save it to your phone. Tap 'use as wallpaper' from the options.
7. Now you have a nice lockscreen.
It won't work with password on!
Let me know what you think about them.
really like the idea of this, just one question, when I set it as wallpaper and wake the phone up (Not touching it) it shows the wallpaper as it should but in the background it shows the full image of the lockscreen off centre faintly in the background..
It's quite hard to explain but I don't yet have a camera I can take a picture of.. although when I do touch the screen to open it the opacity shows and looks nice..
I'm running mango if that may mean anything.
Cheers,
MVP

Glad you like the idea. It isn't working because of Mamgo. They took it out of Windows Phone 7.5. But maybe I will make wallpapers without transparency for Mango.

WP7 Wallpaper Design Template [PSD]

Hey all, just a quicky here, but, for everyone out there who likes designing wallpapers for Windows Phone, I've made a quick mockup template that includes the dark overlay, lockscreen text, notices, and system tray icons that will co-exist with your wallpaper on the phone so you can more quickly test how your wallpaper will work with text on it, or just show to people as you develop it so they can see what it'll actually look like in use. Been trying to find something like this for a while, but it's pretty hard to find resources for the lockscreen as opposed to app design.

Which contest are you talking about?
Re:Contest
BiapLorScarp is talking about WPCentral's wallpaper contest for a Focus S, although I've been working on getting this schlepped together since before then. Would've been handy to have back in September when I made a series of wallpapers to match an art show I was putting on, for example. Finally just had some free time to get it done.

how to do this??
This looks cool...how did u do it????
Erm... Photoshop???
well i made the tile graphics in photoshop true, but if ur implying that the screenshots r just photoshop mock ups then..no!!
these r fully working double width tiles..
which so many have said cant be done..
The screen shots were taken with the screenshot xap found on this site in the apps forum....
How to:
change .xap to .zip
find the WMAppManifest.xml file and edit the following lines
<TemplateType5>
and
</TemplateType5>
to read
<TemplateType6>
and
</TemplateType6>
then create ur tile with your favorite program and save it with the correct name and location mentionen in the WMAppManifest.xml file
the size of the double wide tile should be 356x173
thats it
have fun

what ive done is take all ready exsisting xaps and edit the tiles to my liing..if one looks closer at the screenshots you can se the name of the actual apps the tiles are linked to..i know how to reove the name also but its not so important.
as for creating and sharing..well i posted the method i use so im sure anyone cane make thire own..
and for live tiles im actually trying to figure that out now with an app that has live tiles..
this proceduer only works for 3rd party apps where one can download and tweak the original .xap
the new message tile is pre-installed so i dont think that will work
but my wide tile for Whats app has a counter which works
ciao
tutorial: http://www.rudigrobler.net/blog/2011/9/27/double-width-tiles.html
It's pretty easy to use the double wide tile but it comes with a few downsides:
by default, the app creates TemplateType5 in the WMAppManifest.xml file
It also mentions
<TemplateType5> and <TemplateType6> are the only supported TemplateTypes available to ISVs:
· <TemplateType5> is used for squared tiles
· <TemplateType6> is used for rectangular tiles
Only square tiles support automatic modification of the transparent background to reflect currently selected theme.
What i can infer is that if you use TemplateType6 you can create a rectangular tile image - it just can't be transparent...

This means you can use the double wide tiles but not if you would like to submit the app to MS for marketplace as only MS and OEM partners are allowed to use it and the transparancy.
Awesome. I want to do this.
Interesting, we should have this.

Windows phone notifcation Concept (Dev.)

I wanted to respond to someones else's post about Windows phone's notification
system and I ended up creating something and showing it to a few people they
thought it was cool enough so I like I'd share.

}
here is a quick explanation ,
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The notification tile/hub acts like a normal tile on the homescreen . It flips
and rotates different notifications as shown in the gif, but based on the
setting it can also be static.
when double pressed like launching an app it expands to fill the rest of the
screen , all this happen on the home screen. The remaining apps darken like it
does when moving around live tiles and the notifications show up as shown int he
second image. you close it and it returns to the normal home screen.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SIDE NOTE:
I have zero developer knowledge but am quite good design and using a cooked
ROM version of WP7.8 I can olnly imagine what can
be done with Windows Phone. Any one who finds this cool enough and have
developer experience can contact PM me. Maybe we can work to
have this work on Windows Phone .
Good idea:good: (+) I wait for beta test:cyclops: (I'm not a developer but I can tested it).
very good idea!
hopefully some coders like ultrashot,heathcliff74 and of course all other coders have time to look into it...
First one is debatable, but I dislike the notification tile concept, the live-tiles itself are notifications, so there is no need for an extra tile to 'mirror' the other tiles.
It's sort of contracting to the Live-Tile concept even.

I agree with you that the live tiles itselfs are notifications... but with a notification tile, you dont need additional tiles like E-Mail, Messages,..
One Tile with all notification, where you can see all incoming mails, messages,... and i would be great if you can open your mails from this notification tile directly
Exactly.
If we have eg. four email account we have to add to homescreen four tiles. In Windows Phone Notifications concept we have all email box in one tile + messages.
Looks awesome, but wouldn't every single app need to be patched to send notifications to the tile? Like Facebook, twitter, blah blah?
Interesting concept, but very hard to make. I don't think there is an easy way to intercept notifications from other apps. Expanded view is also something new on the platform, so it could require OS itself to be patched. Personally, I don't think it can be done, but good luck with the project.

Yeah i thought so too, the most difficult part will be to intercept notification from the apps, which seems quite impossible .. but one can only dream,

Question Change lockscreen clock!!!

So I am sure this has been asked many times, I just cant seem to find it, lol.
I hate the digital square clock thing on the lock screen and from what I can tell and read there is not an easy way to change this. Nice!!
I am rooted, any suggestions on how to change this to a normal digital or analog clock? I am not sure why would there not be an option for something as SIMPLE as this?
I hear this changed in Android 12, but in 13, its a new "feature"?
The only way to change it currently is to leg l leave some kind of notification as unminimized. I know in another thread in this section someone mentioned a particular app for creating a dummy notification you can leave displaying all the time. Having a notification that displays on the lockscreen makes the lockscreen small as in screenshot below.
Now if you don't let notifications display on your lockscreen, then there's nothing you can do about it for now (until / if someone finds a way).

Thanks, will look into that. Any idea WHY this would be restricted this way, lol?
I just use the built in screen saver and have it set to the digital clock. Down side is that the screen saver only works when the phone is charging/docked.
You can try AODNotify or
Tasker can help you change the size of Android 12's AOD clock
A new Tasker project allows you to choose between the small and large clock designs on Android 12's Always-On Display.

With A12 Google removed a lot of the customization options we once had, such as setting a specific icon layout in the status bar and choosing a font style. Samsung still retains these features.
In A12 the lock screen clock is new, while in A13 there is supposedly new options being developed that will allow you to change the display format. It may also arrive in A12L.
Your best bet is to install a 3rd party AOD app to customize your lock screen or wait for a custom ROM.
