[Q] Back to stock rom rooted - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Need to get back to stock rom, or GB2.3.3, already rooted and want to keep it that way, spent las 3 hours looking here and nothing is working, downloaded 4.53.651.1_Rooted_Odexed_Signed and that didnt work, gave me FCs. The stock odex did the same. what else is there?

So you have already flashed a stock ROM based on the latest OTA and you are getting problems? I have been reading that the latest OTA has bugs and people who have never been rooted have been getting restarts and FCs. Perhaps the reason for your problems is due to the OTA itself and not a corrupted stock rom. I have flashed the same 4.53.651.1 rom as well (expcept it was deodexed) on my spare EVO; however, I have not played with it to see if there are any problems with it as I do not have enough time and I am just getting ready to get rid of it. If you would like the deodexed rom, I can dropbox it for you... Let me know.

Did you do a total wipe, except the SD card?Theres a reason your getting FC's,heres a good sock rom with the new update... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412005 ,also concider partitioning your sd card... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158993

yeah did a full wipe and partition first time, with the first one, and then the same with the second time. Going to try the one you linked.

How to get access to copyrighted apps in the market place after ROOT?

Ok, so I did part 1 and part 2 of Toast's root for full NAND access
I also flashed to the latest radio
how do I fix it so I can see apps like NYTimes, etc? Thanks
I have the same issue. Any details on this would be greatly appreciated.
Not sure if I completely understand, but I am fully rooted (Toast 1/2 Nand etc). I just searched for NY times in App Market, downloaded, installed, and it works fine.
I have new Radio, and Running Bugless Beast Rom.

Well, you have a custom ROM loaded, so that would change the result. I too have the latest radio, but I'm still using the stock ROM with my recovery. There has to be something we can do fix this issue. I don't want to load any custom ROM's because I haven't seen one that appeals to me. I'm wondering of users that have kept the stock ROM, but have it rooted via Toast method have this issue or are they using apps that aren't effected by this????? Someone has to know of a fix or a file that we can copy over the one that has broken us.
Well at least we know there is a cure for it. Either run a custom rom, or talk to the dev who made it work in his ROM to see what he did to cure it.

I agree, but that's why this thread was made, in hope that someone who knew how to fix this issue would chime in here and let us know, so that we didn't have to bother anyone for a fix....
Wishful thinking I guess....

I flashed the flipz OTA Update 1.32.651.6 in recovery mode, and then flashed the radio but it made my phone go in a constant re-boot. I did a wipe, Dalvik wipe and a cache wipe and success!!!! I was booting with no issues AND all the apps that I wanted in the market were showing up with no issues + I had full root access!!!! I lost some of my data, but that's a small price to pay... Good thing I had my backups! Thanks again to XpAcErX. OP should link to this post for future reference.

[Q] Help I deleted a system file

Hey I got my phone rooted, so I installed Titanium Backup, and then I uninstalled the stock browser, the download manager, and also android.downloader or something like that. And I broke my phone - now Google Play just crashes instantly.
I've tried reinstalling the firmware, and resetting to factory, but it's still the same.
Is there anything I can do, other than take it back to the store?
Help!!!!!
EDIT: It gives the error "Unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped."
did you do a nandroid backup?> if not we need to know the exact application you deleted. future reference DONT DELETE. just freeze then its just a simple unfreeze and a freeze also stops the app from running. you will not get more available memory by doing this because this is on a different partition. Also never delete or freeze anything referring to com.android they are core funtions that are required for your device to run properly.
You deleted a process?!
My money would be that android.download or whatever process you deleted was required for Google Play to work. Hopefully you made a Nandroid before modifying processes. If not, you'll have to flash a stock ROM to get it back.
Alternatively, if you backed up system data with Titanium Backup, you might be able to find the process in there and restore it.
Echoing drksilenc, don't uninstall things through Titanium Backup unless you're positive it won't mess something up. How can you be positive? One, deleting processes always causes problems. Even freezing them can be messy. Don't do it. Two, in the case of an app, you'll know it's ok if you've had it frozen for a week or so and the phone hasn't acted up. Even with system apps, though, I recommend freezing rather than uninstalling. It's safer, and you never know if you might want/need that app again.
It gets worse.
I went down to the Bell store (my phone's actually from Bell, but they're similar to the AT&T ones, right?) and they wouldn't exchange it. So I tried going into the Clockwork Recovery, and wiped all of the little folders in "Advanced Settings." Because I noticed that Bell's add-on apps kept coming back, why weren't the other ones I deleted? And now it's a useless brick, says SAMSUNG and that's it.
Brand new one-day old superphone, totally wrecked. I don't even think there are any stock ROM's out there for this thing yet.
I'm a meathead.
I'll try reinstalling the firmware again that I did before, maybe I'll get lucky.
Nope, still nothin'.
So now I'm going to do something really crazy. Somebody on the interwebs says you can flash the SGH-1317M with the stock rom for the GT-N7105. Says it's the same thing except it's the international version and that it's even better.
I went to samsung-updates.com and searched for the Note 2, and sure enough, it's on their list of ROMs for the Note 2. So I'm downloading the GT-N7105, and I'ma gonna install it, unless someone here tells me different!

Any rom in our dev section should fix you try clean rom ans stop using titanium vackup. Why are you debloating roms when devs did it for you already and obviously you see you have no clue what you're doing?

Just flash any rom in the android development section usinf twrp or cwm, it will rebuild /system and fix any issues. In the future dont delete or uninstall system apps, just freeze them if you think yiu dont need it. Freezing stops the app from running ans taking up any cpu or memory so its almost as good as deleting (it still technically takes up space but this phone has plenty of space) with nine of the dangers. If something stopped working like play store, youvcan defrost the apps yiu froze easy enough.

Yes we promise lol and dont freeze or delete anything just leave it to the devs and only download stuff from this forum i317/i317m
Sadly, failure
I downloaded CleanROM Lite 1.0.zip, put it on the SD card, and used Clockwork Recovery to install it. The installation went without a hitch, but trying to boot the phone, all I get is the SAMSUNG logo still. So I did a factory reset, wiped the cache, wiped the Dalvik cache, and did "fix permissions", but it's the same.
So I'm downloading the other ROM ("Stock Root - De-Odex") and will try that presently.

These roms take a while to boot how long did you wait. Look you didnt break your phone from deleting apps just flash the rom and wait it will boot. Remember these roms are 750-800 mb worth of data to boot not 250mb like aosp roms, takes few mins to boot

You might have been right. I'm so used to it just freezing up that maybe I wasn't patient enough and just assumed.
But it works now! I flashed the Stock ROM, and it booted up with no problems. Then I flashed the lite one again, and it works too. So now I'm going to try the other ROM on the dev page, see how it looks.
And it's still rooted, so hooray!
Thanks for all your help.

[Q] ROMs Failing, Start Fresh?

Ive tried several ROMs over the years on my ATT GS3. Lately Ive been using the Liquid Smooth ROM. About 4 months after install I started getting screen flashes/colors, random restarts, the phone was getting hot and Ext SD card errors so it was pretty much unusable. Went to try some other ROMs and cant get them to flash. Tried Beanstalk, ProBAM, and Goodness Reborn and they fail immediately. Ive downloaded from different mirrors and the file size is identical. Ive tried flashing from internal and still wont work. Also updated TWRP throughout this process and didnt fix it. The only one that does flash is Synergy but im not a fan of 4.1. Would rather have 4.2/4.3.
Any ideas on why these ROMs arent flashing? Ive tried multiple times.
I dont know the ins and outs all that well but it seems something is corrupted. Would it make sense to odin back to stock/unroot and start fresh? Follow this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2186967
Or is this a fixable issue without going through all that?

From what it sounds, it could be a bootloader problem. Did you ever update to 4.1.2? All 4.3 ROMs require at least the 4.1.2 bootloader, which you can get without Odin'ing 4.1.2 from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2321310
As always read, read and read. If this doesn't help, I recommend maybe trying out CWM (I'd restore back to your TouchWiz backup since that backups from TWRP and CWM aren't compatible.) If that still doesn't help, then by all means, Odin to stock, OTA to 4.1.2, root and go on. As always, this is just information from one member to another, so I am in no way, shape or form responsible for anything and everything that could go wrong.
The 4.1.2 ota update just came out today so no. I'll try that in the morning thanks!

Fail immediately? As in you're able to flash them but can't boot properly or you have glitches?
Sounds like a hardware issue to me. Hope you got warranty.
I click install, select the zip and it starts working for a couple seconds and fails.
Just updated the bootloader and ProBAM and Goodness failed. Tried Beanstalk and it completed fine. Gonna try it out for a bit. It is 4.3 so not sure what the issue it with the other ROMs yet
Beanstalk is up and running. Thanks drx!!
edit
Just dl'd Carbon ROM and CM 10.1.3. Both failed immediately when I used TWRP to flash them. Updated bootloader, updated SuperSU. Should I go back to CWM?
What am I missing? If there are no other ideas is my only option to ODIN back to stock and try again?

Try Task650's rom. It's the most stable and smooth I've used. Also, he has good instructions on what bootloader to use.

Moved to internal and flashed fine. Rebooting now.
Spent most of yesterday on AirDroid moving files back to my external. Came back and it looks like it killed the battery. Plugged in, rebooted and now my ext sd card wont show up. I bought a 64GB Samsung microcard off Ebay. Formatted on the phone and started tranferring files fine. Was going slow but working. Really dont want to format and start over but the phone wont even see it so I cant format it from the phone.

[q] help with nandroid issues

Please forgive me if this is in the wrong spot or if I broke some forum rule, I have never posted here but I have read a ton, thanks for all the help you guys have posted by the way.
First off I am not by any means an expert on computers and rooting but I have a decent understanding of the basics and can easily follow online instructions to root. I obviously have a d2att, I recently rooted it. I was happy with it unrooted for nearly a year but when samsung released the 4.3 update my phone really started sucking. Eventually I decided to root just to get a rom that functions better. I have been running gummy rom kit kat, I think its the nightly from march 10th, I have had no real issues other than some random reboots here and there. My mom begged me to root her d2att because she also was tired of the buggy samsung 4.3 update. I eventually rooted hers, even though I really didn't want to, knowing that I would get calls about every little issue and I would have to run and fix it... anyway
She has had issues that I have not had, she says that her phone randomly turns to silent periodically and causes her to miss calls, and she also says her bluetooth is intermittent. I don't use blue tooth at all so I wouldn't know but I have not had an issue with randomly going to silent. I have tried a lot of custom roms over the past 2 months since I rooted, including CM11, CM10 (all of them), AOKP, slimroms, of course Gummy, and a variety of others. All of them have had some major bug that is unbearable, from not connecting to wifi or not sending and receiving MMS, except for gummy which I have only had the random reboots.
Okay, so when I rooted mine originally I made a nandroid copy of the original rom after I rooted it, I didn't realize but somehow this nandroid file created to my internal memory instead of my sd card, so when I loaded a custom rom it was deleted. Like I said I'm far from an expert and that was a huge mistake. So anyway when I rooted my moms (same phone) I made a nandroid of her stock rom after the root and saved it to my computer, tablet, flash drive, external hd... etc.
Now that she is having problems with the absolute best ROM that I have found functionality wise, I thought I would restore her stock rom and debloat it, try my best to get it running better. I used her nandroid back up and restored my phone to it, only to get a ton of errors, everything was force closing. I kept getting the popups that "unfortunately ... has stopped" they were nonstop. Literally all I could do was hit ok and try to do the same with the next window, finally I get rid of those and the phone wouldn't run any apps or make any calls etc. So I rebooted to recovery and went restored my nandroid that I made earlier that day and all is fine with my phone again.
So here is my questions. First off when I made the nandroid of her stock rom I renamed the file STOCKROM, that way I would def know what it is and to not delete it. Will renaming a nandroid file make it not work correctly?
Also would a nandroid back up of her phone simply not work correctly on mine? I thought it would but it def does not. Maybe there is saved data that doesn't match my sim card.. I have no clue.
If I used this nandroid on her phone do you think it will work corretly?
If I messed up the file be renaming it, does anyone have a backup for stock that I can possibly use?
Last but not least, any recommendations for custom roms for d2att? I really just want speed, and no bugs
I am really sorry about the excessively long post, but I wanted to fill in the background info before I asked my questions, in case it was needed. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.
Again please forgive me if I broke a forum rule or posted in the wrong spot, I don't typically post on any forums ever, I just tend to read the posts of others. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY AND ALL HELP, GREATLY APPRECIATED.

If you decide to go back to stock 4.3, this thread should help. AT&T I747 UCUEMJB Stock Restore
I've never had to use a nandroid and definitely have not tried one on a phone different from where it was made, but from reading in the past I don't believe that renaming it is causing the problem. I believe it is probably due to either trying it on a different phone or the file structure may have been changed when you moved it to the pc. Hopefully someone more experienced will chime in regarding the nandroid on your phone. If it is still on her phone I think it may work.

You MUST have the UCUEMJB or UCUEMJ2 bootloader and the UCUEMJB modem installed before proceeding or this ROM will not work properly. Your data and wifi may be broken if you do not do this first. These are available here: Bootloader and Modem Options

if the above link doesn't work, you can odin the NE2 firmare. I'm not sure you go to MC2 after being on 4.3 or above, even if it was AOSP. Here's Garywin's NE2 link: thread linky and Samsung's official: page linky. If you use either of them, it's a lot harder to restore back to MC2; Apparently Samsung did something with the recovery. Plus, you'll get Knox and you'll get the warranty void when you root; probably not a big deal since you've probably had the phone for over a year.
