Free tethering on stock rooted rom - Samsung Captivate Glide

Could I get that? I'd really want to use built in feature, not 3rd party app.
It shows "mobile data isn't available or invalid sim" when I try to turn it on

Hi, I have the same problem, anybody has the solution for that?

Did it work before you rooted?

The Rogers ROM has unlocked tethering but I'm not sure if you can use it with your provider without getting in trouble.

Rogers ROM has tethering enabled, but I believe, a Rogers customer needs a data plan of at least 1GB to be able to use it.
if you are rooted and unsure if your tethering is enabled, view /system/build.prop and look for the line
Code:
ro.tether.denied
false means tethering is enabled, and vice versa
not sure for ATT Glides but you may have this too
Code:
ro.wifi.hotspotUI
0 means disabled and vice versa
Reboot if you did enable (change) those build.prop lines

I have the AT&T stock ROM rooted and it happens the same to me i look in the system folder and I find that in the AT&T ROM it said
ro.tether.denied=false
What these mean? How i can fix these?

I posted how to do this. Here's the thread I think.

Basically if you are already rooted use titanium to remove the tethering manager package.

Stock Gingerbread question

My GF has a G2 with stock gingerbread now running on it from the OTA. She wants wireless tether. Are these my only two options?
0- Pay for the tether add-on service.
1- Downgrade to Froyo and then flash a rooted GB ROM ?
2- Downgrade to Froyo and then flash a custom GB ROM such as CM7 ?

Pretty much your only options are to pay for an app or flash a ROM where that feature is included however, from what I've read, people have been getting billed for the feature when using the app, at least on TMo

Well the tethering feature is actually unlocked on the G2 (it comes preloaded on AOSP Android), but if you use any decent amount of data on the phone or computer, they'll start pressuring you to buy a tethering plan (even though they never actually block tethering). I personally tethered on several ROMs, stock rooted included, for several months before ever having issues.
Flashing a custom ROM or pre-rooted OTA-based ROM won't necessarily save you from the tethering problems. As I've sleuthed through and found out through the course of this thread, they can sniff out the user agents you're using on your computer even on custom ROMs and redirect your websites (this is easily fixable (read the thread) but nonetheless they are paying attn).
Either way, you shouldn't be paying for tethering. If you have no problems being able to root, then you should and put a custom ROM on there for more functionality (including WiFi tether) in general.

Thanks. That's what I noticed. She has working tethering via the AOSP stock ROM. So I'll just leave things along and once they start pressuring her to buy a tethering plan I'll consider flashing a custom ROM. As a side note, I've been tethering (via AOSP stock ROM and custom ROMs) on my Nexus devices for years now and T-Mobile hasn't said a word. Maybe 'cuz I'm not a heavy user.

Yep pretty much. As soon as you start using a lot of data they start looking and they'll check user agents and can block it. They don't try very hard though.

[Q] New tethering block on JB?

Hello everyone,
I know of the other tethering thread but they all seem to address the older ICS version of software.
I have the truly unlimited plan and was able to tether with the custom apn before (unrooted btw)
I have since applied the new JB upgrade to the device and it seems when I go to enable the tethering it checks with tmobile first before enabling.
Any ideas on different programs or way to block it from doing that?

[Q] Is rooting enough to get WiFi Tether to work?

I like the current version of touchwiz.. so I don't mind staying with it
I do however want WiFi Tether... can I get it to work on Stock Rooted or do I need a different Rom for it? If I do I haven't been here in a couple of month and Im really don't know what's the most stable Roms and which ones look similar to Touchwiz and that support WiFi Tether
Can someone please help??
Also.. any easy way to root using a MAC?? I remember witht he EPIC 4G to be a nightmare rooting a device using a MAC computer
I don't know about using macs, but you will need to root then flash a .zip in recovery to get tethering working. A lot of custom roms will have that feature already enabled.
If you're looking for TouchWiz roms, just look for ones over 1gb
The smaller ones won't be tw.
you may need busybox installed. But that should be must have if rooted anyway.
beyond that, it's just trial and error with the WiFi Tether settings. I suggest using Reload Driver 2.
I recently purchased a new GN2 and had to re root. I enjoy stock Touchwiz so i tried this exact thing.
Rooted using the guide at galaxynote2root.com
Installed the Trev-E wifi tether app and it works fine.
Since I'm stock with no potential Sprint spyware removed I also installed Hotspot Shield VPN and run that prior to tethering (may not really make a difference)
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
Download the MC2 rooted nodata, flash through Heimdall and then get the Trev-E Wifi Tether app.
Has everything you need.

Working Solution [Enable WiFi Tethering on Stock ROM 4.4.2 I317-UCUCNJ1]

Hi All, I have been successful in enabling WiFi tethering on my i317 (AT&T Note - II) after flashing a Stock 4.4.2 ROM (Baseband: I317UCUCNJ1) recently. I am posting it here with a view to share with the community members if this helps to the users stuck at enabling WiFi tethering after flashing stock rom.
Prerequisite: You need to have a ROOT access on your i317
Steps to follow:
#1: Install 'Wanam Xposed' from Play Store
#2: Install 'Xposed Installer' once asked at the first initialisation of Wanam Xposed when your open it
#3: Install/Update Framework once you open Xposed Installer
#4: Once framework is updated, click on 'Download' within Xposed Installer and search for 'Moto X Hide Carrier for 4.4+' and install it
#5: Now go to Wanam Xposed, Click on System, and Tick Mark on 'Disable Tether Provisioning'
#6: Reboot your i317 and you are done
IMP: Please allow your device to reboot whenever it is asked/suggested by any of these applications.
I am hopeful that this will work for you.
Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, this is not working for me. May I ask, are you a tethering customer with AT&T? I mean, is this supposed to bypass the fact AT&T likes to charge you for tethering or is this just a way to make this work with the new update?
Also, are you using a third-party tethering application with this?

That's a sad news. No, I am not a tethering customer of AT&T. I am not sure about the security that they have enforced at SIM Level. This solution actually bypasses native (device level) security enforcement. Nothing else.
Since I am not an AT&T customer, I won't be able to work around this.

Quick question about rooting, custom roms, and using an ATT phone on the t-mo network

Ive been using an Att SGH-SGH1337 on the T-mobile network and i want to root the phone, now I know the bootloader is locked so as far as roms are concerned that is limited. Although rooting and using stock 5.x is something I wouldn't mind, or even a t-mobile touchwiz rom would be even better, if possible so i can use t-mobile network features like wifi calling.
So since I use a t-mobile sim if i root and install the stock att rom with root, will i still get access to the t-mobile network?
Lastly once rooted is it possible to use a t-mo rom on this phone to gain things like wifi calling and mobile hot spot?
Is that even possible as i have read that the ATT variant has a locked bootloader so only touchwiz based roms work anything aosp based will not work?
Thanks in advance Also the most recent guide posted that i was going to loosely follow is http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/how-to-installed-custom-lollipop-rom-t3135396 if that is anything i should not do i appreciate the help.
