[Q]Internet and keyboard problems - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello :
Problem one :
After i flashed 4.0.2 official radio (provided by erfant (i thing thats his name ), my mobile data internet seems to get bit slower.. Can new radio affect that ? I have full strenght 3g network signal.. Wireless working great..
Or there is something else i can do to speed it up ?
Checked speedtest now.. Ping is 700 ms (not regular) download speed is 4mbits (its ok, regular), upload 2.2 mbits (regular also)
And my signal strength indicator is gray.. (when network connection is turned off..)
Problem two :
When im using stock ICS keyboard in landscape mode, im experiencing heavy keyboard lag. But only in landscape. In portrait it is good ! .
and i dont want to replace it with 3rd party app, because i simply love ICS keyboard.. Help
Thanks in advance folx
EDIT : First problem solved by reseting APN.. second remains

Ok, so you are telling me that no one else is experiencing problems with laggy keyboard while in landscape mode ?

Nope. Does it happen ALL the time or with just one app. Sounds like it's possibly an app issue.

I happen all the time .. When im in messaging app, when im in gmail app, in browser, you name it ... Damn..
p.s. I must say, not boasting, that i am very very fast typer..

It's a long shot, but go to settings ---> language and input ---> spell correction <---- uncheck
See if that speeds it up. You're on stock 4.0.1, right? I think that was some cause for keyboard lag on that version of ICS.

Im on 4.0.2 stock..
I did uncheck spell correction, and it seems its gone (the lag).. Thanks

Glad it helped! If you get tired of the stock keyboard and no spell check, give SwiftKey a try. It's pricey, but I have really enjoyed it for the past several months, especially if you'll let it learn from your E-Mails, SMS, Facebook, etc. I'm stuck on it for sure. Haha

Amazing, Just Amazing!!! H TO 3G TO G maybe solved!!

I have just installed Evils Custom Barebone rom v5 on the dev bord for desire, its a rom build that has no sense, just helixlauncher2. Now before i installed this i had the stock rom running and that always kicked my network preference to G and if i set it to HSDPA only, i would get scratchy 3G/H... Since installing the bareback rom, which has no sense running at all, i am on 3g or h constantly, and when i load a web page it always kicks into H.
I must also add that after i rooted i also updated my radio (baseband) to the new one released, the asia update
This could mean that sense applications or sense itself is forcing our phones to 2G networks as preference, I know this idea is out of the box but its looking that way, especially in my case.

very good news! although it's most likely the radio update that has fixed the problem! (i had the issue with the HD2 and it was discovered that it was not the fault of the Sense services that the connection would drop)
please keep us updated as it can take a while for the connection to drop, it can stay stable for hours and then drop like crazy.
thanks for posting but do keep us updated!
thanks!
Its definatly not the radio update mate as i still had the problem straight after rooting and updating to the new radio..... The problem only was solved when i installed the custom barebone rom, i now have HSDPA on tap, instead of blank spells when i had wcdma only on previous to the custom rom.
I just added that if people want to replicate what i did, then they have the full picture
Plus constant 3 bars of 3g reception

strange
well please do some further testing and report back! download a 50mb file while surfing the net and see if it drops
if it doesn't then there is a fault with Sense which HTC must fix.
ok gonna test now, also just made a phone call which was liquid! pure liquid!! No breaks or anything... I think we may be on to something here guys! something thats pretty big!
This rom is avoid of any sense, sense looking like what is killing our connections;(
JD
Started to download 114mb nvidia graphics driver, whilst on 3 bars it was downloading very fast, then it dropped to two bars, and it hung, after downloading 2mb, then it popped back up to three bars, downloaded another 2mb and then dropped back down again to two bars. When surfing it always stays three bars. It looks like tmobile have put a cap on how much we can download in bursts.
Im still noticing 95 percent surfing on hsdpa improvment.
JD
also i think removing sense and all of its RAM burden helps the phone to make better and faster decision's. This could be whats happening here
Also reporting a better WIFI signal strength, wad usually one bar from my room, now is now a constant 2 bars on signal icon
Stock T-Mobile ROM, never had any issues?
This seems to happen with every new HTC release. Could it just be poor network performance?
Why do I never have issues? Live around Nottingham but work all over the UK, no problems with HSPA.
Ok, i unchecked under location, determine location by wifi towers.... Went to download that 114mb file again,
Worked 100 percent.
downloaded in just under 10 mins no hang))
so its solved!!

Paul some people are having intermittant G/3G/HSDPA
My problem was solved by not having Sense And with the CM Mod being uploaded as we speak i will see if its to draw with that as well.
But im definatly getting faster, always H speeds now, and the only thing i changed was the rom

i must be lucky i dont seem to have the issue
So if some people have it and others don't how can it be device and not network related?
It's OS and Network related.
There's an open bug on the android development site about it. I don't know all the ins and outs but the OS seems to have some difficulty re-acquiring dropped signals. So if your network has dodgy 3G coverage you're more likely to experience this.
I'm sure it's far more complicated than my explanation though and involves all kinds of fascinating intricacies regarding the type of 3G coverage and automatic switching between the different connections yadda yadda...
Yeah its pretty deep, all i know is it has been fantastic since Sense has been off my phone

Just to clarify here, switching rom and radio on your phone did not solve the issue as there was still a dropout, but what has fixed it is disabling the location, what do you mean location by wifi towers?

I had the same thing happen. On first boot, wifi would work perfectly until I disconnected and tried reconnecting again, it would connect but nothing would happen.
You'll also notice that when this happens, the wifi icon and signal strength icon will no longer change its colour. For some reason it only happened the first day I installed CM7, but after multiple reboots, installation of some apps, everything works fine now.
edit: I also changed my governor to SMARTASS2, (122MHz min, 806Mhz max), but I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

I saw your thread about yours freezing at 806Mhz.. the only thing I can think of is maybe you have a different CPU revision that doesn't overclock too well.. or maybe different RAM which also doesn't allow for higher overclocking.
Got to wipe over this until its finished. cant believe im the only one.
Am I the only one with the WiFi problem.
no mate i have them too! not just wifi but mobile data also it says its on but does nothing and also the colour doesnt change sometimes, same for overclock anything past 600 freezes up.
We should port this conversation over to development (Cyanogenmod 7 thread) - since it appears to be an issue specific to that ROM(?)
I'm having the same issue - running Alquez Cyanogenmod 7 (beta 1)
It's working great. Running smartass2 min 122 max 806 with no problems...
...except that either wifi AND mobile data can theoretically be connected, yet the browser and other programs/syncing can't connect to the internet.
i cant post in development i think i need at least 10 posts lol..
i know its silly but the rules must be obeyed. i just unistalled awaiting the fix.
I tried everything i know, but no joy.

Same problem with me as regarding posting in development..
And same problem with internet connection switching on and off without warning on cm7. was totally chuffed i got it untill this happened. Both the cell signal and the wifi/3g would go grey instead of green when connected..
Got frustrated, changed to tmous ROM, and now hae a different problem; need new radio, 3g not working!
Hopefully cm7 gets solved soon...although apart from my own issue with radio reflash(i think thats the problem?) I really like TMOUS...it is very sharp, and a lot smoother than the ported cm7, in my opinion..
Anyone find a solution, post it!!! Thanks..
Here s one thing i "think" helps...trial and error, as usual...
1; Keep wifi turned off, only keep 3g connection on.
2; Install 3g watchdog (I got Pro version) . This is an app that monitors the 3g connection, and i am inclined to believe may help keep it active. Now, mine is greatly improved with connection, thanks to these factors. Oh, and a few reflashes and a few reboots...
Hope it helps? It has helped me...

whatsapp messages delayed. pleasseee help

i have searched every possible threads and browsed Google for hours to find for a solution. but i couldn't find any. i have a stable WiFi connection, yet, my whatsapp messages are delayed.( they are not delayed if i am using mobile data). if i send a msg now it takes forever to send it.moreover if someone send me a messsage , i receive it lately, probable 3,4 messages together. i have also noticed that my WiFi do not stay active when i use whatsapp.probably this is the reason my messages do not get sent instantly. the two small arrows in the WiFi bars disappears.which means data are not being sent or received.i have to open the play store or browse the internet to make the connection active. why is it that when i use whatsapp the WiFi connection becomes inactive but when i browse,WiFi is healthy? is there any way that i can force WiFi to stay active and connected when i am using whatsapp?or is it possible to increase the priority of whatsapp to use the max WiFi strength just like browsers and play-store? i really can don't care about battery if i can use whatsapp properly.is there any modded whatsapp apk which can force max wifi to stay active etc etc... i am really frustrated. any help is highly appreciated.
p.s: i have changed kernels, from Franco to trinity than Franco again, unchecked "avoid poor WiFi connections", set WiFi sleep policy to "never"
Sounds more like a problem with your WIFI router then the phone itself. Have you tried to reboot your router?
WIFI High performance widget might help you to keep the WIFI alive when screen off.

Did you tweak the Wifi parameters with your custom kernels (low latency mode)? Have you tried flashing back stock kernel to see if that fixes the issue?
not yet. but my question is if the wifi network was the problem then my brothers htc one x running ics and galaxy tab running gingerbread should also face this problem in whatsapp, ryt? but they dont.is it the rom i am using?do u think getting back to stock might help? any recommendations? i love xenon
I know exactly what you're talking about because I experience it as well. It doesn't matter what ROM, (stock, CM10, PA etc) kernel, (stock, Franco, Trinity etc) or what WiFi network I'm on (work, home, coffee shop etc) but whenever I'm on WiFi my messages in WhatsApp are delayed when the application isn't open. I've basically concluded it's the app itself that has a problem with WiFi. I have no fix, I just keep hoping that the next update will fix it.
The developer website isn't very helpful either. Basically suggesting not to use WiFi if the other fixes they suggest don't work.

No idea unfortunately
I know it was running fine for me on ICS, but I noticed it changed after JB. I run the version of WhatsApp offered directly from the website which I think is different from the Play Store, so I don't know if it was a version change, or something specific to JB.
If I know I'm going to be using WhatsApp I stay off WiFi. Not ideal, but it's the only thing I've done that's "fixed" it.

If you always had this problem since the day you bought the phone and on stock (not sure if you flashed a custom ROM right on the first day you owned it), probably not. But if whatsapp worked fine before and the problem was introduced after flashing a custom ROM/kernel, I'd say returning to stock will probably fix it.

I've used whatsapp since day 1 I have my gnex. No issues whatsoever, not on ICS nor on JB. I also don't see this forum flooded with people complaining about whatsapp, so I'd say it's a specific problem linked to your whatsapp account and/or phone.

Beats me. However, with millions of users and billions of messages sent per day, things obviously can go wrong. Try contacting whatsapp support.

I've used Whatsapp for a very long time, previously on an HTC Desire S and now on my GNex GSM and never had issues.... I'm on stock JB rom but I've tried several others with diff kernels and no probs whatsoever. Until today. Faced the exact same prob as the OP described (whatsapp msg's go thru or come very late on wifi but do so fine on 2G/EDGE - however everything else works just fine re gtalk msg's/browsing etc and whatsapp works fine too on my brother's SGS3 on wifi).
Was going nuts googling about it when my brother informed me that he'd changed the home ISP and now our wifi router was pumping out access from a new ISP's modem. So I tried switching back to the old ISP to test (swapped the cable modem that connects to our wifi router) and whatsapp works fine again. Then my brother switched back to the new ISP's modem and same problem for me on whatsapp! So we factory reset the router after upgrading it's software to latest from the manufacturers website and now, finally, whatsapp works fine for me on both ISP's modems.
Maybe you can try messing with your router (factory reset or look thru its settings or try another ISP input just to test?), maybe it will help. It's a strange issue though. (FWIW my router's a cheap one by TENDA and my phones wifi sleep policy is set to always on).

Translate, what does that mean?
Sent from LT18i with custom firmware by myself.
2nd in the list switches to the 3nd , then 4th goes to 2nd.... (keeps on going) verry weird, maby i should make a vid of it.
If you mean the list of networks keeps changing, it is because the signal strength might be changing and Android does list them by showing the stronger ones first.

Dialer not calling...

So weird problem... I use sense dialer (sense 6 4.4.3, stock Rom,rooted s-off bootloader unlocked, elementalX 18.0) I dial the number, hit call, nothing happens... Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Anybody have a similar problem, if so, what did u do to solve it?
Best chance would be to get a log cat.
Sent from my One.
Fastboot flash the boot IMG that came with nusense or use flashify. If the problem is no longer there then the kernel you flashed is causing some problems. If it doesn't matter which kernel you use then try flashing the latest full firmware.
Right now it seems to be working, I'm not 100% sure, but I think I narrowed down the problem... I have snapdragon battery guru installed to control how much my apps sync, and the dialer apps (s6 dialer, Google dialer, exdialer) were set to sync "only when used".. since I changed em back to sync "when it wants", the problem seems to have gone away.... @ least 4now...

The only time I have ever had this happen it was because the phone thought it had no network connection capable of call. Any chance you are in a crappy area when the problem occurs?

Nope, surprisingly this [email protected] my house which is 1 of my best connection areas, constant full signal and constantly on 4g.. and I successfully reproduced the problem by going into snapdragon battery guru and setting any of the dialer apps to sync "only when used" and sure enough it started hanging again. Soon as I reverted back to sync "when it wants" and it was working fine. So fyi to anybody using battery guru, don't mess with the dialer apps sync. Also noticed if I change 1 dialer,it changed the settings on all dialers (ex: when I changed Google dialer to when it's used, EXdialer also changed to when it's used)
