[Q] Hulu Plus...working? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I have tried the multiple methods on XDA, including the modified Hulu APK that is supposed to work on "most" devices, but still can't get Hulu Plus to work. I have also tried using the modified libflashplayer.so, but nothing as Hulu still states my device in not supported. When using the modified APK, it did allow me to use Hulu, but as soon as I would try to play something it would say "Buffering" then crash. Any ideas? I am currently running Darkside v2.

I have Hulu Plus working fine on ANY ROM posted here for our model. The buffering, then crash is from ad free. Simply run ad free, then hit revert, to basically uninstall all the ad free stuff. Voila...no more buffering then crash. I also simply use Titanium Backup to restore Hulu Plus on every ROM install. Don't use anything from market since it's still currently NOT supported, which is ridiculous at this point. I can put up with ads. There is a method I saw back somewhere that does modify the ad free host file so that Hulu Plus will run along with ad free killing ads, but it wasn't that important to me. You may be able to google "ad free host file and Hulu Plus" for that. But again, just hit revert to run stock without ad free and Hulu Plus runs using your modified files.

[Q] Disabling Ad Blocker for specific ads

Flashed Calkulin's ROM which I believe has ad blocking enabled, which I would like to keep on at all times. However, recently installed Hulu Plus, modded for all devices, and realized that the adblocker prevents Hulu ads from showing, which causes an error/FC. Any idea on how I can allow ads ONLY on Hulu Plus?
Thanks!

You would first need to find out what ad sites are being used by Hulu. Then remove or comment out the lines in the /system/etc/hosts file that contain those sites.
The problem is, I doubt Hulu is only using a specific set of ad sites.
Darn...guess I'll just wait until our device is listed as a supported one...

Wired Magazine and other Conde Nast magazine app issues with custom roms

I finally installed an ICS rom and I realized that the Wired magazine app is not working properly with sign in button disabled that allows you to access your subscription. I had to return back to stock rom just for this app.
The app seems to be only compatible with Kindle Fire stock rom, but there are reports of successfully running it on CM9 roms on other devices. Would there be a way to fool this app telling that it's running on a compatible device?
So, do you know a solution for this or would a developer be willing to investigate this issue?
I'm currently running wired just fine on Reloaded ROM based off CM9. All I did is adb pull the app off my KFire before I wiped, then pushed it back after flashing; and installed like a normal app. Flawless.

I downloaded the apk from a thread on here somewhere. The issue I had was that you need to remove the adblocking hosts file to be able to sign in. If you leave the adblocking hosts file, the wired magazine app fails out with no internet connection and also the sign in link is not there.

I'm having the same issue. I don't suppose you remember which forum that apk was in, diggitydogg, do you? I did a google search and couldn't find anything.
I found the gq apk file in a thread here. I installed it and it recognized my previous purchases. I tried sign in and couldn't. I kept getting an error message. Then when my one magazine downloaded it tried to open it and got a fatal "force close " error. Now I can't get past the logo screen without getting the same error.
I'm surprised more people running cm7 haven't had these issues.

This is the post with the Wired Magazine apk attached.

It works fine for me once I remove the ad-blocking hosts file. It would be great to find out what the specific entries are that kill the app. I love having the ad-blocking ability, but Wired is more important to me
BTW I'm running [3-6-2012] gedeROM v1.55...
UPDATE: I edited the hosts (system/etc/hosts) file and removed all entries that have "adobe" in them and it works fine now. There are 5 or 6 of them. I could add them back in until it breaks again and see which ones are necessary to remove to get this to work, but I have to get back to my "real" work

[Q] Rooted Kindle Apps do not show up in home>apps

Hi,
Last month I rooted my Kindle. I decided to give it to my girlfriend to use but (for obvious reasons deregistered it from my Amazon account). Now after it has been deregistered she is unable to get the apps that i had on there (she has registered her own amazon account). The apps are still on there after a little exploring i did on ES explorer. They will not show up under home>apps where all the other apps are. Root access was not removed from this Kindle but the Superuser icon and Google Play Store icons were (along with the rest of the apps i downloaded from Google Play Store). I can still use the apps if I go into ES Explorer under Tools> App Manager and click on the app it will give me an option to open and it works just fine. I just opened up Google Play Store and downloaded the "Craigslist" app and it shows up under the apps page. It is just very inconvenient to do it this way and I want to know if anyone has any idea what is going on. I am completely lost!
Thank you!
Have u tried using an alternate launcher like go launcher HD? For the record, you can not just simply install alternate launchers from the play store and have them work out of the box, minus the exception of using other ROMs like kinology or cm. You would have to copy installed apk from
/data/app to /system/app and fix its permissions to avoid boot loop. I advise using something like kindle fire first aid or a app called kindle free for it though. Also thought I'd mention if you choose this route and are on amazon is x.4.1 or higher, you won't be able to set the background, I made a fix for that. If you decide to try using an alternate launcher, I'll send u a link to it, word to the wise though, if you choose to use an alternate launcher it is advised to run my wallpaper fix first or your system partition may run out of disk space and be unable to complete the fix. I really need to put my wallpaper fix in my signature... Anyways post back if you would like to try this.
Also thought I'd mention the apps are probably not showing up because of ownership issues, just a guess though, because I tried to run a free app from my mom's kindle 1st gen on mine and it refused to even open saying I didn't own it... Free app... Irony... Anyways that's just a guess, I'd love to test this theory using my moms account on this kindle but I currently have cm 10.1 installed so I can't without reflashing.

Hi,
Thank you for the response! My Kindle is running 8.4.3. I am thinking of just doing a factory reset and re rooting it because i have the program all set up on my computer, just need to re run the program. Then i will have a clean slate to work with. If my logic is correct i should be able to just start from scratch again which is relatively easy compared to finding a new solution. Let me know what you think.
Thank you
I'm confused, wouldn't you still need to login to your account to re download stuff from the cloud causing the problem all over again?

Amazon cloud works great. My girlfriend has her own account and can download any of the apps she wants off of there. The problem is that the icons dont show up for Superuser or Google Play Store. I can still use Superuser but i cannot touch the app icon to go into it but i know its still running because Titanium Backup was asking for its permission. Also when i go into Google Play Store i am able to download apps and have them appear on my kindle apps page but the original Google Play Store is not there so i have to go into ES Explorer to access Google Play (im trying to make it easier for her by having the Icon for Google Play Store on the home app page). I am having issues with Google Play and Superuser (which isnt a big deal that i cant touch the app to open it) but Google Play Store i would like to show up on the main page.

Oh OK I get what your saying now, that is strange, I'm starting to wonder if I misunderstood you from the beginning. Yea if doing a restore still for some weird reason doesn't fix it just use an alternate ui, I kinda don't like the carousel anymore myself after flashing a normal android os on mine, but restoring the os should work.

How to delete ads from Fire TV?

I recently setup a VPN on my desktop that bypassed my OpenDNS account. I didn't release that it did it for my entire network. I did the internal updater block, so luckily I didn't lose root. But now I am getting ads on one of the games I downloaded to the Fire TV. Is there anyway to block these and delete the package that it downloaded?
I use AdAway on my phone so I installed on FTV and it works for blocking ads well. I dont know which ads it blocks because I have always had it on there. The only one that I know is the showbox app. It had annoying ads across bottom and after video was done. They are completely blocked now. Hopefully someone will answer the question about how to remove the package it installed.

Adblock plus for Android. This is the latest version, 1.2.1 and I find it's not blocking adds on my AFTV, so I went back to an older version.
UPDATE:
I find the above link app doesn't block anything for me, so I went back to the one I was using before:
https://mega.co.nz/#!9w1GiSaT!ntXn4kiQWiEoTiFaeBDE9cRFHoWa5-U0qxGk13KOg3Q
This is version 1.0.1 that I got off of the piratebay. It has the Fanboy List, which is what I've been using to block stuff.
Also going to point out there is the Lucky Patcher, which can try to remove ads from individual apps, amongst other things. Google for it. Grab any version from a source you trust, and it will auto update to the latest version if you give it a min after opening it. Needs root of course.

Yup. Install adblock. But then the whole thing hangs when it tries to play the ads. They are sneaky.

Lack of apps on Goolge Play with CyanogenMod ROM

Hi,
When I search for apps on Google Play, quite a lot of software are not available, compared to other tablet/phone (e.g. Samsung).
I can manually install the apk and it works fine.
Is there anyway to make those software show up on Google Play?
Thanks

Try the Market Helper app. It works well for me (it did, anyway), but YMMV. Make sure you've got root access enabled in developer settings and/or SuperSU installed, as the app requires root to do its job.

I usually choose to fake/emulate one of the phones in the Phone section (the HTC One X+ works for my purposes, but you may want to change that if the Play Store blocks apps you're interested in). Make sure that, if you're using a Marshmallow/CM13 ROM, you grant the Market Helper app access to contacts, phone, and storage via the app's listing in the system settings; without those permissions, it can't do what it's designed to do. Also, when the app sends the device info over to the Android Device Manager servers, you may get an error message saying it can't send the device config (this happened to me recently, but I was able to successfully spoof the device in the past). In that case, the app won't work until the developer updates it, and you'll have to use the old-fashioned manual apk download & install process (or use a third-party app store).
Thanks for the tip on permission. That error did pop up.
Once the spoof is activated, Google Device Manager did show the latest activity is from the fake device. However, Google Play Store still hide the apps. For example, Plants vs Zombies 2. Tried several devices, including those I have for real and have the app in Play Store but none of them can pull out the apps.
Is there any other steps?
Thanks

Clear the cache for the Play Store app, and also try force stopping the Google Services Framework app. After that, if you still can't get it to work, try giving the device a couple hours to let the Play Store adapt to the device spoof.

Tried all suggestion, except the clearing cache does not work on CM13. Still not getting the apps showing up.

which CM13 ROM/build are you running? You might want to clear app data for the Play Store if you can't clear the cache itself. Also, I'm pretty sure the device spoof is reset on reboot.
