Galaxy Nexus with random inputs. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello, I have been experiencing an intermittent issue, that is become very frustrating when trying to do anything with the phone; text messaging is unusable at this time.
This issue has happened on the original version of android, and current version which is the KANG Milestone 2. I also have Franco Kernel. This is a GSM model running on USA AT&T. It has happened everywhere. At home, work, etc. It doesn't matter if I am close to another electronic device, if I am holding the phone, etc. Sometimes I can go days without having this issue, but it seems like lately it has increased.
I uploaded a youtube video, but cannot post the link, if someone can post it for me. here is the information after the website address watch?v=HbCs9_JUQFE
Basically it will keep inputting buttons or key presses, or switch my homescreen, etc. If it were a hardware issue wouldn't it happen all the time?
Anyone with advice or have had that issue? If you need anymore information I can try to get it to you if the phone will work with me.
Thanks!

I may be wrong, but it looks like there's something wrong with the digitizer. A wire maybe coming loose or you could have more problems than that. I'd go get it swapped out if I were you. Could be a simple fix, could not. Why risk opening your phone when its still in warranty?

i got an issue with random inputs on my galaxy nexus too.
i activated the setting to show touch-inputs in developer-options and recorded a small video
as you can see i happens along the right side of the screen and you pretty much can´t do anything while this is happening (when you´re in an app, the screen will just scroll around like crazy and do random stuff.
edit: new users can´t post working links...

Looks like a hardware defect, that one you'll want to send back.

[HELP] Screen Freezes very often

Hello,
I've tried searching for the problem but it seems like no one else has the same thing happening to them.
My screen freezes pretty much every other time i turn on the phone. The lock screen would show up but I can't swipe to unlock. It also happens when people call me and I have to swipe to answer the call. To fix it I have to turn the screen off and then back on and then it starts to work normally for the remainder of the time I have the phone on.
I have it fully rooted and have wiped and reflashed multiple roms (icluding original rom) but it still persists for every rom.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Im starting to think its a hardware problem.
I've been battling this problem too, I feel your pain. In my case the screen only locks or doesn't work correctly every so often, I would say on 1 in 5 calls. It also happens every now and then when I get texts. I tried different third party texting apps too, Handcent, Go and Chomp, all three would do it. Just like you I tried all kinds of removing of apps and widgets, different ROMs and wipes, formatting SD in case it was corrupt, different kernals and radios, even deleting and recreating contacts in case they were somehow corrupt, nothing fixed it. Finally the other week I got Sprint to send me a replacement. You know what? It did it too and it was a different HW version ( 0003 instead of the 0002 I had ). I was even able to make the new one do it with no SD or connected to any accounts such as FB or Google, and I hadn't messed with it either ( read as no rooting or anything which my previous one I had done ). I've had to get with Sprint and they have yet another one on order for me now, I really hope it does the trick. I posted on this site for advice but got almost no response, but I got quite a few on PPCGeeks. If you want to read my thread, do a search on that site for 'intermittent wake up problems' or something to that effect. End result was that everybody who read it said it was most likely hardware related and so that's the route I finally went down, but in my eyes it seems like astronomical odds that the new one is doing it as well. Good luck to you, I'll let you know if the next replacement fixes me up.
Update : I got my second replacement yesterday, turned it on and nearly cried...I've never seen such bad separation at the bottom under the soft buttons before, though I know this is a known problem with EVOs. My 0002 had it a little but my first replacement ( which was an 0003 model ) did not at all. This latest replacement is an 0003 model as well but it was stunning how bad the light leakage was. I didn't even bother trying to activate it to see if it would fix the much more important problem of not being able to answer calls though...I'm sorry if I sound like a whiner, but it's just ridiculous how bad it was and I just can't see how this could make it through manufacturing or QA. I went to a Sprint store this morning after talking to them on the phone because they said the problem had to be verified there. Following that I called them back and they are sending me yet another replacement. One of the guys at Sprint support said his EVO does this from time to time as well, I'm surprised more people don't experience it and that there are no suggestions for how to possibly go about fixing it. Uggggg....
Another Update : Well, this past Friday I finally received ( believe it or not ) replacement #3. As detailed above, #1 still exhibited this behavior and #2 I didn't even bother trying as it had the worst light leakage crack at the bottom imaginable. Anyway...#3 is doing the same thing and I'm now just about at the end of my rope as the saying goes. As before, I was able to get it to do this with stock and nothing installed. I just can't believe at this point that I could have gotten this many bad models, it has to be something else! What settings could there be on the network side that could be following me that might be making this happen? I was thinking about the stuff you get to using ## codes perhaps? The reason I mention this is because I did change one or two of those back on my very first EVO but it didn't start exhibiting this behavior until months later, do these live on the back end or on the device? I found them in the thread on XDA by a poster with the name of something to the effect of 'technofile'? His thread was originally about using Verizon PRLs on EVOs to get Verizon 3G but there were other things mentioned as well such as these codes to get to call quality settings I think. Please help, I love my EVO but if I can't reliably answer calls I'm going to have to try to get something else under the 'lemon law', probably an EPIC.

[Q] Mytouch 3g Slide Screen Issues ? (WARNING : EXTREMELY LARGE PHOTOS)

So recently my mytouch has been getting worse and worse. I'm not exactly sure if it's me or if it's the stupid phone because it's been degrading over time for some strange reason. First of all, the camera is **** for some reason, this is my second replacement phone from T-Mobile and it's extremely blurry for some reason(apparently it's a common problem but not common enough apparently for the tmobile representatives I've met with have seen before). Secondly, it's been becoming unresponsive at times although i kill my apps after i'm done with them(I probably only have internet, and facebook running most of the time). Third, ever since I've factory reset it, it's become very glitchy for some reason. One of the problems is that I would close the physical keyboard but after sending a text and all of a sudden the screen goes black and the only thing to fix it is to hit the power button and press it again to get it off of sleep. Another problem is after i send a text i close the keyboard and the screen repeats but the location of buttons is still where they're suppose to be on the screen.

Decided to take a picture of me creating the thread if you can even see it lol
Third Problem(Glitchy screen)

As you can see the buttons are on as the phone is on but the screen is black and unresponsive, i realize i can still go to apps while like that somehow but to fix it i just hit the power button which shouldn't be happening though
Fourth(Repeat Screen)

As said before unless you didn't read this happens after i send a message and close the physical keyboard...
And thank you for any suggestions you guys have, help is appreciated, also for taking the time to read the thread
Jezussss!!!!
Dude.. you dont need pictures, and if you post them.. resize them first.
Make the thread want to be readable, like-able. Ask yourself, would you read this thread?? and with yellow highlights that no one can even see????????
You also need to post if you're phone is stock, what rom you are on, what version..

This is a hardware problem (the repeating screen) that seems to be happening to many people. (it happened to me before which is why i replaced my previous slide). After my 2yr contract is done, im gonna stop getting phones with keyboards because this also happened to my previous htc slider phones

So it's actually because of the sliding part of the phone ?
I'm not surprised, this phone was pretty cheaply made imo, literally a piece of crap :\
I guess I'm getting the new iphone once it comes out and my 2yr contract is done

Oh I see, well I tried to get it replaced but HTC was a bit suspicious when they wanted my credit card before anything ......
I have the same issue with my phone
As I was looking at your photos I realized I have the same issue going on with my phone. Does anyone have suggestions on ways to fix it? Personally, I do not believe it is a hardware issue. I do believe it is more of a software issue. That update that HTC offered is definitely screwed up! Ever sine I updated my phone, all of these problems started. This problem did not occur beforehand! My phone was working fine - before this "software update."
Same Problem
I had the same exact problem with the Repeating Screen (and completely agreed about the camera lol). Yesterday I tried demonstrating to my friend the problem, and permanently blacked out my screen. Now, the phone works in the sense that it receives calls, the home keys light up, and the camera still takes pictures. However, with no screen to select any options or perform any functions, the phone has been rendered completely useless. I, too, would like to figure out what the problem is and if there is any possible fix.
Sorry I couldn't be of much help. Just know you're not the only one lol
My girlfriend had the repeating screen issue back in May/June of this year. It was more than likely a software issue, because it became incrementally worse as the phone opened and closed until it came to a point where absolutely nothing could be done when the phone was moved horizontally.
I had T-mobile replace the phone at the time. Unfortuntely an idiot I work with who was supposed to mail it back didn't, I got stuck with an extra $360 on the bill.
Worked out paying for the phone with them yesterday morning, this morning my girlfriend messages me to let me know the screen is acting up again.
Potential Fix?

I would recommend replacing your flex ribbon. It worked for me, and from other threads I've read, I believe it's the cause of these issues. It's a pretty easy fix ( coming from me, who's far better at breaking electronics than fixing them, lol ).
Here's the flex ribbon that I bought off of Ebay ( it's the cheapest I found and it comes with the tools too ):
http://www.ebay.com/itm/170647168235?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
And here's a good video on disassembling your Espresso:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jgFHuVWlig
P.S.: I'd recommend being more delicate than he was with the volume ribbon though, as mine seemed very frail. Also, this video is for replacing the digitizer, so you only need to follow it to get to the flex ribbon.
A month ago, I had issues very similar to the ones you posted. Sliding my keyboard out ( in any way but gently ) would occasionally split the screen or freeze the phone. Even without using my keyboard, the phone would occasionally freeze while "settling" after the boot animation, and sometimes even during the boot animation. Slowly, those "occasionally"s become more and more frequent, until my screen just went black one day. The phone still seemed to work ( lit up when turned on, made sounds, etc. ), just the screen seemed dead. Figured that I was having a combination of software issues ( the random freezes ), and hardware issues ( split & black screen ), but replacing my flex ribbon suprisingly fixed everything.
This is what worked on my MyTouch 3G Slide
i just keep sliding the phone. and turn off the screen then turn it back on. but not turning off the phone.

[Q] Erratic Multi Touch / Continuous Force Closes?

First off, I purchased my Nexus 7 on the 26th from my local Gamestop. 32GB WiFi. Since then, I've had a number of issues with the device, and I just want to know what you guys think on what I should do.
First, I'm one of the users affected by the erratic multi-touch issues on the touch screen, (meaning that the screen will hit stuff by itself without my input). It's only happened to me once, so shrugged it off because i figured its more of a bug, if anything. As I've looked on this forum and found that multiple users are actually affected by this issue, so part of me thinks it may be a hardware issue, but on the other hand, it could be a software thing.
My second issue happened just a couple hours ago. I clicked on the screen to see that my wallpaper was reverted back to stock and was then bombarded with continuous force close after force close (we are talking every 2 seconds on the dot, literally). I clicked The Play Store and it logged me out as well. So I signed in and then cleared data and force closed all of the Google Services and framework and stuff. The force closes seemed to stop, and everything seems to be okay as of right now.
I'm thinking of returning it and getting a replacement, but something tells me that this may be software issue instead of a hardware issue, I'm not really sure to be completely honest.
So I ask you guys if you've ever experienced any of the problems mentioned above or something similar. I'd like to wait it out, but as said before, a return may be the best thing to do. Any opinions are welcome.

Inconsistent Playing of Touch Sounds

So I am hoping someone with some real hardware/software knowledge can provide some input...
I recently received my warranty replacement unit because of unresponsive touch and phantom touches. My new unit seems to work perfectly, except now every 10 to 20 touches, the touch will register, but the touch sound "click" doesn't play (if I put my ear close to the speaker, I can hear the speaker activating though). Repeated touches (like repeatedly pressing back) won't reproduce the problem, but more random timing and touches (like in regular use or typing) will. I'm wondering if anyone thinks this is a hardware issue, or some component of the stock software that wouldn't have been overwritten between the update to JSS15Q, and then to JSS15R (it happens in all three versions).
Think I should go for another replacement? Or do you think I should root and unlock, and see if a full installation of a ROM fixes it. It's definitely a sign that something is wrong and it's annoying, I just can't figure out if it's software or hardware related. I'm definitely not going to just ignore it.
(SIDE STORY: When I called nexus help for my first unit, the guy was so helpful and took my word that I had already tried factory resets, and set me up for an RMA. My call on this unit, the woman told me to reboot and toggle touch sounds, and kind of rudely insisted that I was on 4.3 and that Build Version (e.g. JSS15R) had nothing to do with software!! :what: She then told me she'd send me an email with more troubleshooting steps, which never came. I had figured I'd wait for the email, so that I had her name for my next call. Totally unacceptable.)
You come off as just looking for a reason to complain at this point, there doesn't seem to be any real problem with your device other than you being overly picky
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4
You're completely right. I was so delighted when I managed to find something wrong with my new tablet...
Seriously? You come off as just a worthless ass of a poster at this point. The problem is there, and can be consistently reproduced. I press home and it clicks, and five seconds later I press home and it doesn't click. Your opinion on whether this is a "real problem" or me being overly "picky" is completely irrelevant. It is most certainly real and not normal, and indicates either some software or driver bug on my device, or a strange hardware malfunction. My previous unit (which had very real problems) did not have this problem.
I hope I speak for others here, when I tell you to **** off unless you have something worthwhile to contribute. Just because you don't think something is important, annoying, significant, etc. doesn't make it any less so for someone else.
Do you have this issue with SwiftKey?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yeah. It's actually everywhere throughout the OS. System settings, stock launcher, Nova launcher, Swiftkey, AOSP keyboard, etc.
I have the opposite problem as you. When muted, every 20 or 30 taps I will get a 'pop' from the speakers, similar to the sound of plugging a guitar into an amp when it's on. Pretty bloody annoying, but I don't want to risk returning it for receiving a unit with worse problems.

Exactly my thoughts on going through another RMA. But I do feel that it's reasonable to expect a properly functioning tablet on our parts. What you're experiencing is strange. I can tell you that on my Optimus G, when muted, I can hear a faint speaker "activation". Sounds like maybe yours is a hardware issue. Are you stock, or have you tried flashing other ROMs?
Well, I installed CM10.2 last night, and the problem went away. Maybe you might want to try CM, or even just unlocking and reflashing stock JSS15R. You might get lucky with your popping noises.
FYI: I've seen this on multiple tablets (TF101, GTab, Nooks, 2012N7, 2013N7) with different customed ROMs.
So, I wouldn't blame it specially on the Tab. In fact, I see this issue less often on the 2013N7. It usually happens
after I just freshly loaded a new ROM.

So a couple of nights ago, I decided to try disabling touch sounds in settings. Since doing that I haven't heard a single pop from the speakers. Looks like it was either the touch sounds 'leaking' or the speakers popping from being activated, which they do even when muted (the mute being software)
I'm quite happy with this fix, since the tablet is muted 99.5% of the time, and I don't care for the touch sounds anyway.
Hi Folk's,
Sorry to drag up an old post, but I've noticed my N7 shows this behaviour on KitKat as well.
It misses the touch sound if you pause for about 5 secs during input. Does it every time and it's very annoying. I've tried a couple of different KK roms and it does the same on all of them.
Just tried going back to CM10.2 (JB 4.3) and it works fine!
Does anyone know the cure for this, apart from going back to JB, please? Would really like to be running KK, but this bug is bugging me!
Thanks for any info.
Cheers

@Petermira @Xi2or @spackmanbr
I have this same behavior on a stock 4.4.2 S3.
After 5 seconds, if I click anything UI (keyboard, Soft buttons, shortcuts, toggles) there is no sound. If I quickly click again and keep clicking, the sounds work as normal. It's definitely ROM related but is there a fix???
UPDATE: Issue does not happen with headphones plugged in. STRANGE!!!
UPDATE: Issue does not happen if I keep a song playing in Power Amp or similar.
Affected UI items include:
- keyboard
- shortcuts
- toggles
- capacitive buttons
- dialer pad
- etc.

Multitouch problem, screen is possessed

Hi guys I have a problem with the touch response on my G4 (H815)
Basically when I use multi touch (and sometimes just normal scrolling) in certain apps the phone will recognize screen taps at the bottom of the screen at the home and back buttons and sometimes other areas, I have used the 'multi touch app' from the play store to confirm that this is indeed the case. This is extremely annoying as apps exit by themselves because of this. It doesn't happen every single time either, just sometimes but often enough for it to be annoying and so may be hard to prove to my carrier or LG if i send it back cause they may say there's nothing wrong with it.
It seems like a hardware issue and in that case the phone should still be under warranty right? I got it in August and haven't rooted or done anything invasive.
There are many people having issues with the G4 touchscreen. Check with your carrier and see if you can exchange it or what your options are.
Hi,
Same problem for me, the back and home button seems possessed. Se this video dropbox.com/s/540ozmvdnhemv8f/MOV_0005.mp4?dl=0 for an example. I bought the phone Thursday last week and it have been this pretty much since unboxing. After a factory reset the phone acts normal for a couple of minutes or hours, but goes back to that stage were I can't use the phone at all. I've managed to update to the latest software but the problem didn't go away. I'll try to contact the supplier I bought the phone from and exchange it tomorrow.
Since I do not have enough posts to post external links you have to figure out for youself what to type infront of the "link" I included.
