[Q] about [ROM] [20/08] Pre-rooted Stock Gingerbread (3.14.405.1) from teppic74 - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there Dudes!
First i want to send you my compliments for your GREAT and helpfull sites/ forum about all rootings & stuff
A past few Days i had such no idea about rooting etc. You helped me sooo much, i just want to say thank you...
And NOW?!?!
I'm coming from FROYO_2.2.2 with 5.11.xx now i have the OFFICIAL GB 2.3.3 with 5.17.xx
I HAVE ROOT! I HAVE S-OFF!
I have a new Hboot and CWM flashed!!!
Everything works fine.
But I still have problems with the internal Memory. A few aps and im out of space This is why i now had part my sd with des RomManager Tool. 512 to ext and 256 to cache.
But the Stock-Install don't mount the ext.part.
Now i have read, i had to do it BEVORE install ROM. Right? Not a big Problem, but i want to stay Stock as possible. So this ROM seems to be perfekt.
It shouldn't be any problem with GSM/HSDPA/EDGE and all the european NetworkStuff?!?
By the way: Provider is O2 (but i think it doesn't matter)
BUT:
Now I have a little problem to download the file from mirror placed in the entry-post. Is it a fault of my network or did you move the files to another server?
Can you give me an alternate adress?
I can't post in the developer forms.
THX a LOT
PS: Just another little Q i didn't find an answer:
Must a system be installed on the device, to flash a new ROM with an RUU executive? Or will it work too if the Desire in Bootmenu, only?

Hi,
I Didn't need to activate a2sd before installing rom.
I use Cyanogenmod, but i thing it should work on stock rom too.
Search for “darktremor“.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

And you need only the recovery to flash a rom.

Have you installed a2sd addon from Teppic's thread?
SwiftKeyed from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk.

No, I hadn't install the ap2sd from teppic yet, because the downlink seems to be broken too.
But, it doesn't matter. I want to wipe my phone, because of other (i hope) software errors I had on phone since a long time.
For example the international storage have after install the GB update from 2.2 to 2.3 only ~110 to 120 MB free. This can't be right, can it?
So, now I want to try to do a new installation with min 3 wipes/ factory reset before.
This is why the question is: can I install a RUU file over USB, when there is not longer a system on phone? I think I have to make it from Cmw-Recovery with an zip?
So, my greatest wish is. Please give me a funktional downlink to the system of teppic!
Thanks so far!
Edit: now I realized the post from conch

UPDATE:
Plugged in a new 8GB µSD (C4) and partition it with CWM-Recovery to 1024MB ext and 256MB Swap.
This should be enough
Now coming up a new Question. What is the ext-part now of format? ext-2/3/4? I don't have seen any option to change this in recovery? Is the AmonRa better with this? I read, there you can have a format of your choice.
So, now I only have to get the rom of teppic
EDIT: New thinking way...
1. Can the errors be solved by a damaged kernel? The ROM's dosn't inklude Kernel, does it?
How can completely change/erase the Kernel and flash a new one? Like the Same as flash an ROM or Radio?
2. When i flash an lower ROM (2.1/2.2) coming from a newer/higher (like 2.3.3 with Radio_5.17.xx) do i have to change the Radio too? Maybe for an 2.2 the 5.11.xx? Or will 2.2.x & 2.1 also work with an higher Radio (like 5.17.xx)
Thanks a lot!

I think it is for the best you do it from the scratch. Extending partitions rarely gives desired results IMHO.

So far, so good...
I had now installed the Stock GB Rom. From the official developer update RUU.
A few wipes, before install, seems to be cleaned my system. No I have ~125MB free space on phone!
I installed the CWMR 5.0 again and also the SU 3.x from teppic. Everything looks fine and working.
Just again the same little problem that the diskspace for my apps will be totaly full soon... What did the think about this little storage??? Arrrgglll!
Before installing ROM i changed the partition on SD to 1024MB ext-3 without swap.
And noew I have installed the ap2sd from teppic74 too. In recovery, everything looks fine. The install-procedure runs to end and show no errors.
But I still have 125MB and can't find any ap2sd app or something
Do i have to mount the ext-3 in any way, or did I miss something other?
Best regards and many thanks to all the people answered me! And not much less all the people who created this forum!

1) a2sd is not an app but a script. Besides ls I don't think there is a way except observing how your /data partition behaves. Frankly, I think adb is little over your head now. If not, search Droidzone's guide.
2) exactly what are you doing? You have a ruu installed now and you flash a2sd over it, or you installed Teppic's ROM?
SwiftKeyed from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk.

Exactly I installed the developer RUU. Then flash it over adb with the ClockworkMod-Recovery and than install the v3.x SU from teppic with flashing from CWMR. Make new boot to check if SU works. Seems to be fine.
Then installed the ap2sd, from teppic, again with CWMR. Looks fine. But I don't think it was success. Because I've seen a screenshot in another thread, from an HTC desire, where you can see, the phone storage is more than 1GB. But I don't find this post again:/
Now I go on, first install the "Rom Manager".
So pls my friends tell me what I did wrong. Because the great internal storage with ap2sd+ was the main reason to make my phone root.

Stable Stock ROM with App2SD/Data2SD

Hi,
I want to know if it is possible to have App2SD/Data2SD on a standard Stock ROM with Sense, if not...Could someone tell me what is the closets most stable Stock ROM available.
I have come across Starburst and Cool DesireS (which is not stable with major bugs) and more that I forgot the names of.
Thank you!
Find Teppics one, its basically stock and you add what you want to it. Rock solid by all accounts

Thanks for you reply Eddy. I would like to ask if you could help me one more time and tell me the steps to flash this rom.
Rom:
2.29.405.5 ROM
Updates:
A2SD+
What I have now:
Code:
Android 2.2
Baseband: 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernal: 2.6.32.15
Build: 2.29.405.2
And is it really necessary to install the Radio supplied? After this I should be able to restore apps using Titanium.
Many Thanks

I couldn't agree more, seeing more than 15MB with the Low Storage notification far fetched for my phone would just make my day.
I have standard 4GB card that comes with the desire, and if I decide to go with StarBurst, I'm not sure what 'ext' to pick.
Please someone help me flash 'Teppics ROM' and guide me on what ext for my card I should use, I need to do this quickly. Thanks!
For data2SD ext4 is recommend. Download gparted and use that to do partition. Your 4gb card will be fine am sure its a class 4 just do a ext 1gb partition, am guessing you already rooted your phone if so once you have done the partitioning download the ROM and put it onto the root of your SD card and then boot into recovery.

Your better of downloading Gparted and burn to disk, then boot from it.
download it from here
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
Here video showing how to use it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9d7qhBpCJQc
Because Android is linux its ment to be better to use a linux partitioning software like Gparted, so I have read I had no problems using this. Where on my first time doing this I used a windows app and had lots of problems.

That means the ROM is designed to run with the CM7 hboot - the hboot is a separate thing you may want to flash.
Note that you don't have to do this - ROMs will work fine with the stock hboot, but the custom one will give you more space for apps in the /data partition.
Some roms works only with custom Hboot like CM7 Hboot or Oxygen Hboot, if the rom doesn't need CM7 Hboot stay with stock Hboot

What's the rom in question?
Fr_78: not quite. As stated above you if you are running stock hboot you will be able to use cm7 roms as well.
The difference is in the partition layout, and as the cm7 hboot has a smaller system partition you won't be able to run a sense rom with it. However you will be able to do it the other way around(cm7 rom on std hboot), as there will just be loads of free(and unusable) space on the system partition.
Have been wondering this myself... I am using baadnewz's GS 2.1 ROMs lately in A2SD+... I have been wanting to switch to the CM7 version due it being apparently faster and lighter on internal memory. Have not got around to flashing CM7 HBoot yet, but if I run on stock HBoot, will I still see the advantages in speed and memory??
PS, I am not S-Off yet, either...that was to be part of the CM7 HBoot procedure...
If it's space you want for apps, try using StarBurst or SuperNova ROM, which both use Data2SD. LeeDroid, MIUI also support Data2SD (but you'll need to flash the A2SD killer first, then install Data2SD afterwards). No need to flash custom HBoot, IMO.
It's the one from Robocik rcmix1.0 but with cm i have memory problems but they say its faster...dunno what to do..

The rom sits in the /system partition, and all of that partition is ringfenced according to your partition table, so it can't be used for other things. So even if the rom is smaller, unless you change the hboot, you don't get more free internal memory (/data partition).
how can i have both of them?cm7 and stock?

In fact you may have 2. Just download the appropriate pb99img.zip and put them in SD , with the roms you want to use (one for each partition table). So each time you want to change, just rename it and boot into hboot, then flash the other ROM and voila!
Havent actually tested, but in theory it should work

I don't think that I am ever going to try... See there is not much space on my SD to have two .zip of full roms ready to be installed, 2 different pb99img.zip and 2 full nandroid backups. Not to talk about titanium backups and my explorer
It is just too much complicated to do all that , just to say that you "dual boot" two different hboot roms...

I know I probably seems like a noob because I have like 1 post but I just havent got arpund to posting until now... Anyway

don't know whether that method works on cm7
a couple of things that i know of:
1. S-OFF (search revolutionary) and change partition table to something like cm7r2, check alpharev. your internal memory goes up from stock (only 147MB) to 287MB.
2. flash an A2SD script such as Darktremor to make the most of your ext partition. it won't appear as extra internal memory, just tricks apps to move them there. keep all your apps on internal though i.e. don't manually move them to SD.
3. a different option, separate from A2SD is a data2sd script, don't know much about these, but have a look if they interest you. they extend the internal memory (adding your actual internal + ext)
and nandroid backup before trying any of this.
should have plenty of space after that!
I would combine 1 and 2.

I wouldn't recommend data2sd on 500MB, pretty pointless. If you're going to do it, do it properly
i have S-OFF already and ill look at the partition tables thing too see if that would help thanks, i tried simple2ext or something like that and i had to restore my nandroid is it functioned horribly so ill also look at darktremor
EDIT:
Ill extend it to 1gb then if you think its needed i have like 4gb free on my sd and i could get a 16gb if i could be bothered...
It certainly seems a waste of the script, lol.

I have an faq you can read, which will help. Then if you're still unclear...
Its the adb and fastboot faq via the link in my signature (guides etc). Just skiup the adb stuff as its not relevant.
First read and understand that. Dont do anything yet. Just read
I know how to use fastboot its just that alpharev says flash then wipe cache which is fine but then says "wipe everything and restore" I dont really get that?
I am very happy with CM7 and an ext4 1gb partition made useable for apps and dalvik moved by this tool: S2E (search for it in Android Market)

You should be fine with nandroid backup, flash hboot, nandroid restore.
It never hurts to format system, cache and data via recovery (cwm based) or via fastboot commands

Thanks for clarifying that, I just didn't understand why wipe then restore ... But they just say that to make sure the chances of error are extremely minimal and so it's not needed thanks again I'll flash it tomorrow night

[QUESTION] R-mount on the GB MIUI?

I was just wondering if there was a way to enable the reversed mount thing in the MIUI ROM (gingerbread 2.3.7)...
I googled it and xda'd it, but no luck...
So is there a way, like with flashing a .zip file through recovery or something else (maybe in the settings?)?
Im running out of space for the most important apps (root explorer, setCPU and PACMAN!!)
Thanks
EDIT: Another thought: Is it possible to enable it on ANY ROM (even stock)?
Just asking, since it looks like a useful feature (is one, too) and I'm a noob at these things...

Okay, so I downloaded the +version and flashed it, but phone got stuck at boot logo...
So I read the thread with the scripts and saw that I should remove a2sd+ (which I have)...
So how do I do it?
Probably terminal emulator and something like 'a2sd [command]'...

[Q] Still Unable to Partition sd card using 4EXT in rooted S-OFF STOCK ROM?

coming to the point:-
*my desire is rooted,s-off and have official stock rom gingerbread 2.3.3, software no. 3.14.
.i used 4EXT Method to partition 1GB from 16gb mmc and the process went pretty good inside 4EXT Recovery. (i tried both 3ext,4ext type ).
when phone rebooted, there is no extra space for ext.partition in freespace app, system app and still getting low space error.?
* m i missing something?
p.s i didnt install any a2sd script using emulator because i dont have it :/
i dont have pc so i cant use gparted method.
help me using 4ext method.
Lol u can't just make the partition and suddenly have your apps move to the ext. You need a script.
First of all I would recommend flashing a custom ROM. Try mildwilds oxygen ROM since its very fast, stable, and comes preinstalled with a2sd.
All you need to do at this point since you've already done everything like partitioning and what not, is flash the ROM.
Download it, put it onto your SD, reboot into 4ext and go into the wipe menu. Then format all partitions except SD card. Finally choose install zip from SD card, navigate to the ROM u downloaded and flash it.
Then all the apps u install will be automatically installed onto the ext partition u made on the SD card.
Here's the download link BTW:

I dont think he's promoting that ROM. Its a GB based ROM one of the fastest, stable and fully functional ROM.
If you need Sense based GB ROM, try Cool Droid V3.

Nope, he's suggesting it and it's a pretty good GB ROM. If you don't want to use oxygen maybe go for one of the CM7 versions, I quite like the JG version though for sense (which I guess you're used to) RSK team had a fantastic gb rom.

I'm not promoting it... In fact I've never even used it. I was just recommending it to you since from what I've heard, its one of the most stable and bug free ROMs for the desire. As a bonus it comes with a2sd preinstalled, so your apps will be installed to the ext partition out of the box.
The ROM is GB, it just has a jelly bean like ui. If you want something like the stock sense ROM, try using the one dvsk69 suggested above.

oops, I forgot to add punctuation. Jmcclue has linked to some which he has experience of, but RSK did have a sense rom, I ran it for maybe 6 months.
I'll try again

I had exactly same problem with using deo roms. After using this method i can install any custom ROM and 4ext is working for 90%.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37383522#post37383522
Due the fact some custom ROMs have preinstalled 2SD different way, Im using scripts attached below the instructions. If script isnt working ( 1%) of all cases, Im using apps showing storage information - if the system information are showing still low memory it doesnt mean its not working. Its needed to use only external app to see reality.( lot of them is on google play).
I hope it will help, cos Im satisfied with it for 100% on all of my adroids .
