You set up your APN for your Service Provider.......???
Perhaps they will send out settings OTA by to you SMS?? (OTA is Over The Air)!!

I'm just supporting irishpancake for his answer..
but I just want to warn you..uninstall that rom manager app for ur own good..

Ive had problems sending SMS since i got the phone as well....
It will send eventually, but I have to hit resend over and over...
I can never trust if my SMS arrives or not, so I have enabled delivery reports just to be sure.
I'm being patient with it, in the hope a decent custom ROM is released [not an optimised Samsung ROM]

Ah-ha, I had this exact problem!! And I solved it like this!!
1. Delete ALL APN's from your device!!
2. Input the APN settings from O2 (Here: http://mobilereviews.o2.co.uk/devices/device.jsp?deviceId=651&tab=8&step=2&settingId=3201 )
3. Press so the green dot is selected (This APN will take care of Internet Access AND MMS, no need for 2)
4. Reboot your device.
5. When your phone starts up again, go to Messaging, Press Menu and go to Settings
6. Scroll down to Custom User Agent
7. Select iPhone (3.0)
(Optional) 8. If you are using Handcent (or another SMS App, you will have to change the User Agent in there to match).
PLEASE NOTE!!
If you are using Handcent, you may not be able to download MMS pictures via Handcent itself. If I receive a MMS I need to go to the Stock Messaging app and download it via that!!
Hope it goes well for you and let me know if it works!

I tried LOADS of APN's (including ones which came with various ROMs) and the one from O2 is the only one I have had to work.
Hi Mate
Instructions seemed to work ok but its a bit of a pain that you need to download the mms manually in the stock app first
not sure why the download button within Handcent doesnt work!
but none the less, thanks for the iphone 3 tip
cheers

[Q]Application had to terminate/ Root Question

Hello all,
I am new to android and experiencing this great oss via my htc desire!
I have version 2.2 (I think it's called froyo - non-rooted).
A prolbem occurs sometimes that says (translated from greek):
"There was an unexpected termination of the application "Messaging" (process com.android.mms) Try again."
And the only button I can press is "Close (or Forced Close)"..
This does not happen only with Messaging but wit Google services and a general "Android system", as well..
The problem I 've noticed is that when entering the Messaging application it shows the sms I 've received by my contacts, but these appear not as contacts nut as mobile numbers.
In example, at my contacts, I have Mr.X with mobile number 12345.
Sometimes when I enter the messaging application, I see 12345 and not the Mr.X as sender.
This is solved by forcing the application to close via the Application Manager (or management, through settings).
What can I do to solve these matters?
Is hard/soft reset a solution?
Also if I root my device am I going to lose data?
Is there any guide to follow so as to root my mobile? (I am really new to this android stuff, but have knowledge of PCs general and psp (flashing, wich is the same with custom roms)).
I would like to save my Contacts, Messages and Applications. Which application should I use?
Thank you!
Hard reset will most likely fix it.
By just rooting you don't lose data, and after you're rooted you can make a nandroid backup.
If you want to root you can check the development section for instructions.
Edit: If you do a hard reset you will lose the data on the phone (messages, etc.), so you might want to backup them before that.
Thank you for your reply!
About the backup you've said, is there any good application to backup sms, contacts?
I am taking a backup now and using the one by sprite mobile..Is it good?
Or should I root firstly and then use another backup application that needs rooted device?
Okay I think a better backup would be MyBackup (this is only a demo but should do for you) or LifeSaver
If you root with unrEVOked you'll get a custom recovery, from which you can make a nandroid (If this sentence doesn't make any sense to you please feel free to use search to find what I mean )
Also If you have root you can use Titanium Backup app.
I believe that I got what you said..
I would have Revoked if I bought it in example from a Vodafone store right?
I think mine is not branded...so I have unrevoked?? :S
Yes, "Revoked" will work for you.
But before doing that please get to know android OS a little better, I have a feeling you are not absolutely aware what are you about to do.
So read a little bit about "rooting", you can find plenty of information in the development section.
One of the important things is to check your firmware so in case you have problems you can revert to the "out of the box" state.
Revoked will work?
I thought it is Unrevoked.. :-S
Because I haven't bought my mobile from a provider such as vodafone..
When you say, get to know android OS a little better, what do you recommend doing?
I was refering to this because I didn't quite understand you clearly.

Nevermind it is unrEVOked. And it will work, no matter where did you get your phone from. For more information on rooting and similar stuff check out this threads:

[Q] Unable to receive messages

Heyy
I Just installed MooDeD ICS v80.2 Rom on my Arc with DoomKernel v5 with WiFi Modules.
I'm unable to recieve messages. Although Everything else icluding sending messages, calls etc works fine.
This problem has happened many times before aswell.
Any Solutions anyone?
P.S - If it helps, I use Go SMS, So I install that, restore my prev messages. and then by Root Explorer, Remove the default messaging app.
Isn't it unsafe to delete the default messaging app, is it? I think its not the same as the Home.apk that you can delete if you have a replacement app. Have a look at system cleanup from the play store. You can see there detailed info of your system apps as well as data apps.

[Q] CM Messaging App

I've been trying out some of the CM and AOSP style ROMs and I noticed with the messaging app that is included it displays the 1 first sent/received message instead of the last one received/sent. I'm coming from a Sense-based ROM and was using the stock sense messaging app and backed up my SMS with Mobile Backup II. I don't know if the problem lies in the app I used to back them up or the fact tthat it was backed up from stock sense and because of that the CM messaging app can't read the time-stamp data correctly or what the cause is.
Has anyone experienced this issue and share a way to solve it? Or can anyone recommend a better app that will properly backup the messages in a Sense ROM and restore properly in CM ROM?
My only other thought would be to find and use a third-party messaging app that has it's own message backup feature and is compatible with both, but I'd rather save that as a last resort. I don't need any extra or fancy bells and whistles in a messaging app - it just needs to send and receive - so stock has always been fine for me.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and any help is appreciated.

What I did was (yes, I know, probably stupid, but it's working):
1. I installed GO SMS Pro (you have it on Google Play)
2. Backup of sms-es
3. Transfer that backup to my pc (just to be sure)
4. Install new rom
5. Instal GO SMS Pro on new rom
6. Restore all sms-es
7. Uninstall GO SMS Pro and use roms message app
Long one, but working...

LOL! I didn't really think about using the third-party messaging app simply for just backup and restore then switching back to the stock one. I will definitely give that a shot. Thanks.

[Q] Problem with messages

Well look before I installed a custom rom on my phone I always use to recive messages from movistar (my phone company) and that messages talk about promotions, but now after I installed the new rom I never recive that kind of messages, why??? I want to recive movistar messages again but I dont want to installed again my stock rom so... what can I do?
Sounds like it was an application that sent them to you. Find out which application it was and reinstall it.
