I can't "unroot" my phone! (I tried all variations) - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

Hi!
You read the topic, I will tell you what happened.
I rooted my phone (Galaxy W - original DBT sales code with I8150XXLA2_I8150DBTKJ1_I8150XXKL3), it was a little tricky.
Originaly it had the LA2 Stock Firmware on it and I had to flash a lower firmware (I8150XXKL3_OXXKL2_XEU) on it. After this I could root my phone.
OK. I played a little bit around and the biggest mistake (i think) - for me - was to test the [ROM] GingerICE 1.0 (Android 2.3.6, Custom .35 Kernell).
After I did my phones language was malaysian I think. I could turn it to English but I didn't like the FW and I only wanted to test it.
The next thing I did was to flash a stock Firmware (again the I8150XXKL3_OXXKL2_XEU), a strange thing was that in the telefon infos the phone was not mentioned as root, but it wasn't really unrooted.
When I connect to KIES it says my phone is incompatible and can't be updated.
If I try to select the sales code via the *#272*IMEI# combination there is only XEU, the original DBT (for germany) is gone. There are 10 or more others to choose, but not DBT.
So I really wanted to unroot and put a stock firmware on it to give it a rebirth and get it as it was as I got it. (or 99% percent as I got it)
First I used the DooMLoRD_v1_UNROOTING tool, it went through everything fine (I read everythng in the DOS Box) and suceeded, but the phone was NOT unrooted! There was no superuser, but it is STILL ROOTED.
Then I tried the unroot.zip file.
I first rooted it again, to have the CWM recovery and after that I turned the Samsung into recovery mode and choose the unroot.zip from the recovery menu and - surprise - it is STILL ROOTED!
I can't believe it. People have problems to get their device rooted, I have problems to unroot mine.
The best thing would be a reset to sales code DBT and any stock firmware - don't matter how old.
Are there any ideas what I can do?
I wanted to post it in the development section but I have to write 10 posts first.
If someone could help me you would make me really happy!!

Hi,
my solution would be:
1. Backup everything manually what you can!
2. Flash via ODIN ClockWorkMod Recovery on your device(english). Scroll down to other and select ClockWorkMod.
If you prefer a german instruction. Runterscrollen zu Sonstiges ;-)
3. Once ClockWorkMod is flashed, go to the recovery:
a) backup and restore -> backup to external sdcard
b) backup and restore -> restore from external sdcard
This is to make sure the files aren't corrupted, if this is successful you can be sure everything is backupped. If you get a MD5 mismatch something went wrong. Try again!
c) wipe data/factory reset -> confirm
d) wipe cache partition -> confirm
e) mounts and storage -> format system -> confirm
f) mounts and storage -> format cache -> confirm
g) mounts and storage -> format data -> confirm
4. You restart your phone in Download Mode and flash the german DBT firmware using this instruction, which is provided in the thread under Firmwares.
If you prefer a german instruction.
5. Now you will have to flash again the ClockWorkMod recovery to restore your data.
Than open ClockWorkMod Recovery and:
backup and restore-> advanced restore from external sdcard -> select the backup -> Restore data -> confirm.
Now if you want the stock recovery back(needed for OTA updates) instood of ClockWorkMod, than go to the Others or Sonstiges and select the stock recovery, and flash it on your device.
6. Now you should have a fresh and unrooted device like you have never rooted/flashed!!!
Oh yeah, the reason why you have to make these complicated steps: Because you were flashing all different kinds of firmwares, you system will be a mess. To make sure your device is not a overwritten old firmware these steps are necessary.
Flashing via ODIN does not delete all old data !!!

Hi!
I just read your answer. Thanks A LOT for this step by step answer.
I will try this, but I can't do it this evening, but as soon I did it I will post if it was sucessfull.
I am from Germany - you seem to be from germany too?
I think there a lot of smartphone/computer "freaks" from germany in boards all around the globe!
Anyway, my english isn't perfect but good enough to read instructions and follow these.
Again thanks a lot,

But it is important to make a backup on your physical sd card. ClockWorkMod does not backup the SD card.
But if you ask me, it is not necessary to format the sd card(internal). External sd is anyway not required to format.
And yes I am from Deutschland :-D If you have problems with my explainations, just PM me, I will answer you in german.

Hi!
1st - Sorry for the late answer. I am a little lazy in writing.
Everything is fine now! My Samsung W is absolutely unrooted.
When I use the *272... combination it gives me no choice, there is only DBT and this is - at the moment - exactly what I wanted to have.
I had wiped the handy and the cache before and it didn't worked well, but after I did the things you wrote "format/mounts and storage..." it finally worked!
Thanks again, I will 100% percent keep on flashing, but it is a little different with the galaxy W. I had the SGS2 before and there were dozens of ROMS and it was no problem to change anything in the phone, there was a solution for everything.
I'll give the Galaxy W a little time, until then I love my Phone as it is.
I didn't want such a big phone anymore, it is just tooo big, so I stepped down to the W.
Have a nice evening,
CU

Hi in performance terms the SGS2 is much superior than the galaxy W? Besides the screen size.

Help...Defy stuck in bootloop

I have a stock 2.1 defy with the 2.51 rom (i think). all the mod i did was root the phone using super one click, the phone ran fine for a few months until i experimented with titanium backup and deleted google talk etc. i found out that (too late)doing this would cause the android market to stop downloading and updating my apps. To remedy my situation i tried installing google talk service.apk back to system apps. first by copying the file to my sd card and pushing it to the system file using terminal emulator. after rebooting my phone is now bootlooping. i tried removing the battery and just after i insert it it would go immediately into the bootloop phase. tried using recovery (volume down+power) and wipe cache and reset, still no go. last resort i tried is after wiping i tried installing cm7 but the installation was immediately aborted. please help, right now im close to tears, i didn't know that it was this hard to mod a defy. my previous phone was a wildfire and modding it was pretty easy.
What happens when you turn the phone on? Does it start in the bootloader? Is it stuck in Motorola Logo?
Try to wipe data/cache again and see what happens.
As well you might want to go ahead and download all tools needed to flash an sbf. Because if worst comes to worst your going to have to flash one

the phone turns itslef on automatically when i insert the battery, white moto logo first then bootloops in motoblur animation.i can go into bootloader mode by pressing up and power before inserting the battery. i just wished i hadn't played around with titanium backup. i already downloaded the necessary files to flash a new firmware. hope i learn to do it properly.

Hi I have the same problem,I just tried to flash the Barebone 1.5 ROM.
My Defy was stock,I just root it and made a backup with clockmod before I did as discribed here:
Installing (Rom wipes data/cache partitions)
1. Copy Barbones to sdcard: Barebones_15-signed.zip.
2. Boot into recovery (make a backup ?) and restore nandroid: 3.4.2_177-Nand.NORDIC_DEBLUR.zip.
3. Still in recovery, select install zip from sdcard -> choose zip from sdcard -> Barebones_15-signed.zip.
4. Reboot system, first boot will take time as it builds the dalvik cache; wait for the background to load, and enjoy Barebones.
- Use Easy Installer to install any apk's you feel are missing.
- Removed.Stock.Apps.zip
-- Removed Apps Must Be Copied To /system/app Manually - Remember To Set Permissions & Reboot
To downgrade back to Eclair; just flash the Eclair sbf you where using beforehand; thats it.

after Reboot it just shows Motorola,I can access Recovery Menu stock one and custom, tried wipe restore factory settings and wipe cache but nothing helped!
What version where you coming from ? Eclair or Froyo ?
Btw factory reset and wiping the cache doesnt do anything in these situations.
Did you restore the Nandroid provided ?
Also cant lie only thing I did not test was coming straight from an Eclair build.
I used the Korean Froyo sbf as a starting point; but I'm testing it now.
Got it alive again with this steps.
No wonder why u're stuck on motorola logo.
Let me break it down for you.
Make sure you have motodrivers installed or install them here.
And install the RSD Lite too Here
Turn off your phone, hit the power+volume up together.
Wait till u're in the bootloader.
Open the RSD Lite, u phone should be detected so u click on "..." select the .sbf u downloaded from here
And flash it.
Wait till is over, and your phone should be good again.

I used this .sbf
But I still don't know what went wrong,I did exactly as discribed in the TUT I postetd above!?
Well if you flashed that sbf you wont be able to downgrade back to Eclair anymore.
However; yes doing that will fix it.
Is it not good that I flashed this .sbf? I got the phone just 2 days ago I think it already had the newest firmware etc.!?
EDIT: But something is wrong with my Wlan connection it is very slow and always loses connection
I doubt it came with Froyo seeing as they are all leaked builds.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537 <- Read up
Just means you cant go back to Eclair.
Ok so you wifi is slow ? Are you even using my rom now; because you flashed 3.4.2_155-Stock.CEE_DEBLUR.sbf.
I cant see your phone so you have to tell me what your using.
Yes I just flashed the sbf nothing else, and before I just did what I read in the instructions from the Barebone 1.5 Thread.

I tried this sbf before 3.4.3_11-Stock.UKTmobile_BLUR but it always failed thats why I tried the other one
So your not using my rom now - the sbf overwrites everything.
Ok sorry Im a noob^^ I just wanted to have all this blur stuff removed etc and your rom seems just perfect for me.
I have problems now with the phone and I really wished I would never had tried this.
I cant boot into recovery mode anymore with clockworkmod, I rooted my phone again installed clockwork but the screen stays black after the Motorola Screen came up when I try to make a recovery boot with clockwork.
cause I wanted to restore the backup I did with clockworkmod before I messed it all up,would that make my phone like it was before or not!?
I doubt you will be able to get back to your backup simply cause I dont think its Froyo.
So do this:
1. Boot into bootloader (power + volume up).
2. Flash 3.4.2_155-Stock.CEE_DEBLUR.sbf again.
3. While its rebooting after flashing hold volume down to goto stock recovery.
4. Do a factory reset.
5. Root your device using superoneclick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913709
6. Reboot.
7. Install 2nd Init Recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032212
8. Reboot twice (to finish installing recovery).
9. Reboot into recovery - wait for blue led then hit volume down.
10. At this point you can try to restore your backup or flash a rom of your choice.
If you try your backup and it does not work you will need to start this process over.
Ok thank you so much fritolays for your help! I will try this tomorrow and post back if I had success or not!
greetz!
EDIT: Couldn't wait to try it and it worked! I took the risk and tried to install your rom again (restoring my backup didn't worked anyways 'cause clockworkmod didn't find the backup but it was still in the same folder it got stored before) works like charm as far as I could test it. But now I really have to go to sleep!
Big thanks again fritolays without your quick help I would still try to get my Defy to work without any success! and THANKS! for this great rom!!!
EDIT2: I don't know why but I have problems with the phone since yesterday when I first flashed another ROM,I always have Network Connection Problems now! I can't download anything from the market if I get to the market! 'cause normally it says no network connection! It worked fine for like 20minutes after I got it to work with ur method u told me above then it suddenly took very very long to download an app. Never had these Problems before,I also have very bad Phone Signal and most of the Time I can just make Emergency Calls and I turned Internet Connection OFF for mobile network (like I did before when it was stock) but sometimes I still can go online with Wlan turned off so this is really ****ed up 'cause I have no internet plan with my mobile phone!
But with your ROM the phone is really flying,I did a Benchmark Test before and got 1100 Score and by just putting your ROM on my Defy without any overclocking or something like that I got 1275 Score!
EDIT3 I found the direction it was clockworkmod/backup/ now
I did a wipe factory reset and a cache wipe and now restoring it I really hope everything is like it was before all this!
Ok this got me to the Bootloop Problem again so I did again all the steps u told me and instead of restoring ur ROM I restored my backup wich was now in the right direction, but it is also ended up in Bootloop!
EDIT4 If I try all this with ur ROM it works,is it because of the Froyo .sbf I flashed that I can't get my backup working!?
I get this Error Message after my phone booted with ur ROM maybe that is one of the Problems I have? "Sorry, the process android.process.media got suddenly closed try it again" I had to translate it so maybe the message is a bit different in english but thats what it says generally.
So everything worked great again,I go into Market to download TitaniumBackup (like I always did) then as always I apply the new Busybox Install TitaniumBackup suggests everytime I start it and the Wifi gets slow already by downloading Busybox. Then I tried to go to the Market again and Network Error, I get the feeling it has something to do with this app or the Busybox installation TitaniumBackup is doing!?
I don't know what it is but it alwys messes something in my phone up and I get Wifi Probs!??
EDIT5 I tried another ROM now "xd1 ** new ** ver 1.2" and everything worked fine! I downloaded Quadrant and a Antivirus App just to test it and everything was alright so I tried TitaniumBackup again (the Free Version as always) and guess what the download got fast till 42% then stuck and now I can't download anything again from Market it is very slow and then the downloads got canceled! wtf is wrong with this app!? I need it for all my Apps 'cause I did a backup with this app but since I flash custom ROMS it always does this bull**** when I download it from market!?
update..got my defy unbricked by following Higgsy's step by step method. installed a 2.51 SEA sbf in the process. love the phone without blur. now im thinking of upgrading to a froyo rom, which do you guys think is the best? based from reading the posts here i'm more confused than ever. sbf's here and 2nd init that??? not to mention a fixed sbf?? i really can't understand these terms and the more i read the more i got confused. Could you guys help me in laymans terms the proper process for upgrading to froyo and which rom is you think is best??

Completely new to android and confused

Ok so as the title says im completely new to android os, and im alittle confused. But there is a very good reason for that. I bought my HTC One-x in china (i work and live here) and it is a Vietnamese vr. that came out of the box rooted and with a custom rom.
Now i have no idea what rom it is, but i know for a fact since i get a message telling me im not on official firmware when i try and update (i get an update request every time i connect to wifi very annoying).
basically i just want to update my rom to the latest if i have to go back to stock then so be it but if there is a good homebrew rom that will allow me all the features i had and doesnt have to many problems i would rather do that.
and ive been searching around for a guide on changing my rom but being in china alot of stuff is blocked or just a pain to go to and my vpn isnt always the best.
so the information that i do know:
software number: 1.28.707.10
android vr. 4.0.3
anything else that is needed i can post up. thanks for the help
Head to one of the other forums and follow the instructions for flashing a new rom 'to the letter'
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786696 - this is recommended as a decent advanced Rom but there are plenty to choose from.
If you bought the phone and it already had a custom rom on then your device is Unlocked and rooted already....
Just make sure you;
Make a back up of current rom, in recovery.
Place the new rom on your phones sd,
Flash the correct boot.img to your phone whilst connected with usb and in fastboot mode.
Clear cache,wipe data in recovery
Flash your new Rom in recovery
Flash gApps if neccessary
Reboot phone and give a while for first boot to do its thing - perhaps 5 minutes.
Make sure you understand 100% what you are doing before you commit to any flashing beforehand
All the best
You have a pretty old version of firmware anyway. It was released in April. If you want the best stable Custom ROM, you may try ARHD 7.2.2 Just check it here in your search box. If you want to flash it, check if you have CWM. Just turn off your phone, then press volume - button and power (all together), then in white MENU (it is called Bootloader) check if your phone have unlocked bootloader (check for word "unlocked). Then select in menu RECOVERY. If you get in Blue menu you are in CWM recovery. You may flash custom ROMs from there. But any way to flash custom ROM or stock firmware you will need a PC. If you have any questions, just reply here... By the way, as i know all Developers put there ROM's names instead of sowtware version. You may have ROOTED and UNLOCKED phone but still running a stock firmware. Then you need to relock bootloader and flash RUU file (respectivly to your CID version) to get fully stock rom and you can get OTA updates after that.
Wow thanks guys this helps tremendously.
One quick question i see it kinda mixed all over the place but i am assuming i will have to back up all my files and what not for they will all be wiped?
but i guess i gotta do some focused research and i should be good to go soon. thanks again
When you wipe your data all of your apps will be wiped. So when installing a new Rom it will load a brand new set of the 'basic' apps so your phone is functional. There is an app - Titanium Backup - which can be used to backup and restore apps each side of the flashing process - the apps backed up by Titanium are untouched in the wiping process but instead are protected and can be restored as and when you need.
Also pictures / music / video is left untouched during a wipe as this is in a separate section from the 'wiped section'

You can back up all your contacts with your gmail account and that will sync when you log in to the new rom. As for messages you can download a range of sms backup apps from google play

I need help on re-installing stock ROGERS rom.

Ive been on ICS/JB for a while, but my battery started to swell and i need to flash back the stock rogers rom.
Ive download from samfirware the only rogers rom.
I put it in the PDA slot of Odin3 and everything works.
When the phone reboots i get an error: Can't access /system/csc/att
And the phone reboots to the samsung logo and nothing more.
I tried using the famous oneclick we had for the leak ICS and this one works good. Only the 2.3 from rogers that fails.
Nevermind, the dude at rogers told me that batteries are not covered by the warranty.
It would still be nice to find the answer to the flashing problem.

Can you help - think we have same kinda phones !
Hello,
I have Samsung Captivate Glide but USA Att version and recently ran into a problem - the phone froze and when I tried to reboot all I can see is Samsung Logo and then it just won't do anything else
I'm not very Skilled at fixing Android and it seems like a headache to me, but Im trying to see if I can fix my phone:
what I've tried so far is play with the buttons while trying to reboot a phone and it gives me that menu where I can clear cache and then factory reset, I've tried both and it still does the same thing. The last thing I am trying to do now is to use "Apply update from SD Card" option in the menu recovery mode menu - kinda last chance in my limited knowledge: I have downloaded original packages from Samfirmware website, but somehow it doesn't recognize them when I'm trying to navigate folders in that menu - Im not even sure what to call the files (what extensions ?) or that it is something that it will let me do from external sd card that Im using because when I open the external sd folder it shows nothing but the SD card is plugged in - I'm just trying to see if it would completely reinstall the whole Android 2.3 system this way.
I'm only contacting you because I can see your phone in the forum is kinda like mine but a canadian version and you seem to know much more about androids - I wish I knew more and could somehow reinstall the whole Android 2.3 from scratch - I do not use a Windows laptop but can possibly find it ( I use Linux Ubuntu) if their some kinda PC Suite Software that does this (no cds came with phone though). Also, I have never messed with custom ROMs or anything like that - last time I used it I watched video online and it froze. Do I have any options here ?? The phone is not under any warranty and I do not care about my files on it much - I just want it to work same as before because to me it seems like it's not a hardware issue but I'm not really sure. Although my phone is ATT, it is unlocked to Walmart Straight Talk Unlimited Simcard - which is very affordable to me as well, and I like this phone! I never upgraded to ICS from 2.3 because it ran smoothly all the time - had it for about 6 months - wondering what could be wrong with it, I already spent 3-4 hours on it with no positive outcome.
Can you help ? THANKS IN ADVANCE - ANY TIPS ARE APPRECIATED
Thank You
Vlad
Sounds like a bootloop, it seems you still have access to recovery mode so you might be able to reinstall your stock firmware from here

kk-4.4.2 is troubled. If you got in trouble doing that please request help in the 4.4.2 thread where you got your kk 4.4.2.
1) Normally when we get in trouble we repair via Odin and install a Stock Rom from Samsung. Is you have not move yet to KK 4.4.2 please try to download your old Firmware. Remember their is various models of Tab3 8 usually LTE, 3G and WIFI You need to download the one that Applied to you. You have not said which model you have.
You could go to sammobile
h__p://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=34506
You need to search for your model. As you see that link directs you to a TAB3 10 3g, that is not yours. Just Select you model in that site.
2) Beware that some Samsung Stock Roms are throuble since they have Knox and other method to do your life miserable. I do not own a TAB3 8 so I do not know that situation. You may need to read.
For that reason this is what I do first.
a) I will use Recovery to Install again, yes again one of the ROM that you have. Normally Developers provide you in the form 0f update.zip. To ensure that the Rom.zip is ok decompress it in your PC. If the file is corrupt winzip or winrar will tell you.
b) Put a copy of the inside an External SDCARD.
c) Reboot in to Recovery.
d) This step is the one you may have miss. You need Clean/Wipe your Tab before install. You need to go and select Wipe Cache and Wipe Dalvik Before Installing Rom. There should be also an area to Wipe User data. Some time Wipe is refereed to as Format. Be sure not to Format Recovery partition, I do not recall is that option is in TWRP.
e) Now You can install the Rom. Please when upgrading be sure to let your tablet in a table not in your hand and ensure that your tablet has at least 50% of battery. You do not want to run out of juice on the middle of a programing.
Reboot and test. If this time does not work may be is time to install Stock Rom from sammobile.
Good luck.
Final, since no body with Tab3 8 knowledge is answering to you in QA. Try to explain the mods to allow you to beg for help in other area!
Thanks

[Q] Bought a Note 3 on CL 6 months ago and rentacenter locked it today

Hey guys, I hope y'all can help out.
Back in December I bought a Note 3 on craigslist and all was well with it until today when I received a message from rentacenter saying they have locked the device.
Can anyone please suggest how I can make this phone functional again? I read in another forum that someone with an S5 was able to flash CM12 on his phone and that got rid of lock message.
Go 4 It! Get a new sim also.
You can probably root and flash any custom rom.
I used the following method posted by ttn1185 here on XDA.
PLEASE READ ALL THE STEPS FIRST and ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU ARE NOT CLEAR.
Download Odin3_v3.09
Download TWRP or any other custom recovery of your choice.
Download Cyanogenmod 12 for G900T : https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=klte -> Put this on your external microSD card. You can use internal storage as well.
Download GApps for Cyanogenmod 12 http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps#Downloads -> Put this on your external microSD card. You can use internal storage as well.
Run Odin and flash TWRP or any other custom recovery of your choice to your phone. This will set KNOX security flag to 1, meaning no more warranty for the phone if you send it to Samsung to repair something else.
Boot into custom recovery ( with phone off, press and hold Volume Up and Home keys while turning on the phone ) and Wipe System, Dalvik, Cache and Data. This will erase everything on the phone. No need to do ROM back up as we have Stock ROM available for this model to go back if needed. Your choice.
Flash/Install Cyanogenmod 12 zip file and then GApps zip file
Reboot
Let your phone sit for 10 minutes.
To the ultra novice people. I'll add a few extra details.
Download the Odin app and install it on your computer.
Flash the latest version of TWRP using odin and download the .tar version. Also, when you're flashing twrp w/ odin, check the second box that says "AP" and select twrp file.
On TWRP, before installing CM, go to the wipe option on twrp and select advanced wipe. After that, check the following boxes and slide to wipe : cache, data, system, & dav cache.

I don't know how to root but I was able to follow another threads instructions and get my phone running on CM12. I noticed that my s-pen doesn't work using this so I tried to use another custom rom that utilitzes TW but the RAC lock came back. Looks like the only thing you can use is CM for a device after RAC locks it. If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know.
If you look in the general section there is a post to get your pen working on AOSP roms
in twrp or cwm do a full back up efs everything boot ect
save that folder with all those saved things to your desktop just in case backup your entire rom stock rac crappe done just in case
now i would full erase rom clear internal data where twrp says ar eyou sur eyou want to reboot there is no os !!
then flash another rom or debloated oem ver see what happens
how rac does this idk
you could also see what happens when booting in safe mode ? if rac locks come back or if you can use titaniumbackup pro to freeze rac app while rooted and or keep off wifi is somehow detecting somthing right idk
figured id toss a few pennys out there if all else fail reload from backups
ive only seen a red rac screen on a laptop before it was pretty cool actully and it was @ pwn shop so it was funny to me

i don't see an rac apk, so i don't know how they're doing it.
Does anyone know how to :
a: stop auto play when connecting to the bluetooth car stereo? Kind of goofy having the Samsung song kick on every time I crank the truck and connect the phone.
b: Have info showing when using pandora? When I was on TW, all the info including artist , song, album would populate on my display but w/ CM12, I don't get that info on my screen anymore.
Thanks again to the guys posting in this thread. I'm pretty new to CM and it's been really helpful getting tips from you guys.
