try to change apn..reverts - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So I have been trying to change the apn to the pta apn and every time my nexus reverts to cingular 410. Any ideas why?

Add a new apn rather than modifying the existing one.
Make sure to hit Menu --> Save after you make your changes (back button doesn't save changes in this case)

Did all that. Added the pta apn saved it then restarted the phone and the phone jumps back to the Cingular 410

Is your SIM/account provisioned for LTE? I don't believe the PTA apn will work if not.

this might be what I have to do. I called customer service and they gave me some crap about loosing unlimited so I have to go into a store to get it done. Maybe it will work then

If you're grandfathered in to the "unlimited plan", changing to the 4G plan should not count as a new plan.... so you shouldn't lose your unlimited.
I was able to "upgrade" to the 4G unlimited plan without issue, but that was just to be provisioned for HSPA+. I just walked into the store and asked for it - got a new SIM and everything. Took all of five minutes, the CSR was very helpful.
It *should* work the same way for LTE though you'll probably have to specifically request LTE. You can get them to use the IMEI off of a Jetstream if necessary.

Thats what I will need the IMEI off of a LTE smartphone, because nothing is changing the scenario here. AT&T wont add LTE provisioning to my account and the apn's wont stick for nothing

If you can get them to provision your line for 4G/HSPA+ (and they should without any problem), you can use the "phone" APN. I got decent results with that. You're never going to actually hit the LTE speeds afforded by the "PTA" APN with the Galaxy Nexus - the only difference will likely be the latency.

i actually have that provision as I came from an SGS2 where do I find that apn?

There's a good list that I referenced at http://www.codemonkeyjava.com/2011/12/08/apn-list-for-galaxy-nexus-for-att/
The important bits are:

Add those two APNs, select the "phone" one as the default (little toggle bubble thing), and reboot.

will give it a shot and let you know

switched back to cingular 410 speeds were the same between 5-6k up and 1-2 down and with the cingular 410 mms works flawless

[Q] Connecting my S3 to AT&T data?

Greetings!
This afternoon I received my AT&T branded S3. A friend signed up for AT&T and wanted to keep his old phone so I purchased the S3 from him.
Upon booting up I am able to connect to the AT&T network, however data services are not working. I noticed that it was connecting to the PTA access point pre-setup on the phone so I tried adding the usual AT&T WAP access point (wap.cingular.com). I have had many "international" phones before so I am accustomed to setting up all of the settings myself. I am stuck here though as I am unable to figure this one out.
I would appreciate any and all help!
Thank you in advance,
Matt
data
i received mine today also. i tried cutting my galaxy s ll sim down and using it. i had not data. so i had to call att and it is a totally different data scheme for the 4g lte. i was on the phone for 45 minutes before all was fixed. i had the old grandfathered unlimited data plan and it was looking bad for a while, but they finally did some checking and over rode the system to modify my current unlimited data plan to work with the new s lll. i have never had a problem with the service i get from att, today was no different, they fixed me up and this phone is sweeeet. so it may be your problem also and have to switch to the new data for the 4g lte.
Solved!
Called AT&T, first level support tried reprovisioning my account (turn off phone, wait 2 minutes, call back), had me setup voicemail and then tried telling me my SIM was not a 4G sim (I cut down my old SIM, by old I mean 3 days old). Eventually got escalated to true tech support, they wanted to reprovision my account again, I let them know we just tried that but I'd be happy to do it again. Lo-and-behold this time it worked!
No change of data plan necessary, I had the 2GB plan from before.
I also had no date, but i just added a new apn and it worked. Try this:

I sold my Skyrocket like 2 weeks ago for this. Living with iCrap (iPhone 3GS) for 2 weeks was god awful experience (I gave my iPhone 4 to my wife so..). I'm like in heaven now....
ordered 6/6 premier, blue. bayarea Nocal. It's delivered like 2:15PM.
I hope everyone gets what they want as soon as possible....
Just had a buddy try the wap.cingular settings and it worked.
looking to use my S3 without calling in and changing my phone type. Leaving it at iphone so i can use both with no issues.
Does anybody have the full apn settings? is there a separate one for mms?

You need reprovisioning. PTA is the correct apn And necessary for lte. It will slow down all the way through 4g3g and edge. Mine does.

AT&T gs3 Signal Problems

I have searched here and google and tried about everything but I cannot find a solution. I have been having a problem with my at&t gs3 not picking up a signal, it will have bars sometimes with no data, then randomly drop all signal together. Sometimes I can get 4g after initially changing APNs, but it always drops out after a few seconds. I did get it to stay on edge for a little bit, but that also dropped out. This started right after I rooted the phone. I then installed Task's ROM, first the ICS then the JB version, to see if that would help, and it didn’t. I went through several APN settings to see if that was the problem, nothing gave a solution. So I tried returning to complete stock through Odin and that didn’t fix the problem either. I was getting full 4g before I rooted it, so know the problem was caused in the rooting process. I just want to know if there’s anything I can do to fix this, or should I just try and return the phone now that it is back to stock? Here are the APNs I tried, none of which fix my problem (the x in the hxxp are t):

Funny, I'm having the same exact problem also. I came across this thread looking for a stock image to return my phone back to stock to see if that helps.
I'm on Task's latest build. I even reflashed the modem to see if that helped but no luck.
Have you found a solution to this?

Depends on your data plan on AT&T.
If you have the simple 3G smartphone plan, you can use the wap.cingular APN which is:
Code:
Name: Cingular 410
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: Blank
Port: Blank
Username: [email protected]
Password: CINGULAR1
Server: cingulargprs.com
MMSC: http://mms.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: Blank
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: Blank
APN Type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: leave as is
Bearer: leave as is
If you have the Smartphone on 4G provisioned on your plan you can use the Phone APN which seems to be faster. My Nexus is provisioned for the later 4G plan and I combined my MMS with the Internet for one APN:
Code:
Name: AT&T HSPA+
APN: phone
Proxy: Blank
Port: Blank
Username: blank
Password: blank
Server: blank
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: Blank
APN Type: default,supl,mms,hipri
APN protocol: leave as is
Bearer: leave as is
You'll need to check on your AT&T plan to see what data plan you have. If you don't have Smartphone on 4G you can't use the phone apn. You have to use the cingular.wap one. I'm getting about 5 mb/s down and 1.1 mb/s up using the phone apn.
Hope this helps and remember the Thanks button!

Thanks for this. I searched the forums and whatever else thread that has the supposed APN info did not work. This though, works like a charm. :highfive:
Thanks! This APN for 4G worked on my T999 SG3 from T-Mobile that I just put on ATT. I managed to get 3.49 Mbps down from it. 4G icon. I guess this means my Iphone 5 LTE wont be used now lol.
It's not the APN, it's how the mms.apk was compiled. Download Go SMS Pro from the market, disable stock MMS app, go through the ADVANCE Settings in Go SMS. Find MMS Custom Agent & type "Android"
Done & Done.
I hope it works for you, too!

i can use text and calls but no internet connection ... do you have any idea on how to fix it ?

lt28at - 3g not working

hi guys,
just got an xperia ion lt28at , 3g is not working on att, added the wap.cingular apn but i do not get a radio button besides it to enable it.
att pta apn is the only one enabled, i am on ics.
any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
The PTA apn is the only one you should have in there. Did you get the phone from at&t or where did you get it from?
Sent from my Sony Xperia™ ion
bought it from another xda member, it's the at&t version of ion, just updated to ICS.
just factory reset the phone, went to add a new apn with the defualt one not enabled, and when i added default att hspa settings to new apn, i did see 4g in the notification bar but as soon as i saved the new apn it was gone and I can't enable the newly added apn.

If you factory reset it or flash the stock at&t ics and have an at&t sim in the phone you do not need to input any apn as it will download the settings for you.
Now if you did not have a LTE plan before getting the ion you will need AT&T to change your data plan to an LTE one. This does not cost anything extra and will not change anything other than allow you to use LTE. Even if you won't be using LTE in your area you need the LTE plan.

My UNLOCKED Note 4 is giving me (Phone not allowed MM#6)! What can I do about this?

I have a Note 4 from ATT that I purchased off of craigslist. I network unlocked phone so it can be used on any carrier, it said network unlock successful and it even shows signal bars even though there's no sim card installed. When I try and use my T Mobile sim card with the phone it returns a message that says (Phone not allowed MM#6). Is there any way I can get rid of this? I don't want to use the phone on ATT, only on Tmobile.

Yup I did all that. Still giving me the same error.
I had this happen to a tablet I bought from ebay. After 4 months of working fine the guy I bought it from marked it as stolen and the IMEI was blacklisted. You possibly have been scammed. There is no way you the buyer can get the IMEI unblocked either.
But even if the IMEI is blocked for at&t it has to work on others carriers.
AT&T and T-Mobile have been sharing a black list database for over a year now.
Have a nice pocket size tablet tho
There are a lot of places that clear the IMEI, at least in New York.
It's only flagged for 6 months and anyone who "clears" it, is changing the imei, which is actually illegal in the U.S.
Any better solution? They are charging 100.00 and it works. Is better than having a paperweight. ....no?
i always thought this was due to activating said sim on a device. IE, my att sim works fine on a friends tmobile note 3 but her recently activated metro pcs sim shows phone not allowed mm#6.
