Adapter to use Beats/Other Headphones - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Is there a way to use iBeats or any other non sony headphones on the Play? Would it work using an adapter like the one below:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Griffin-Hea...sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329412297&sr=8-1-spell
The reason im asking is my iBeats work on the Kindle Fire, but on the play they come up as accesorry not supported and you cannot hear anything through them.

My Play came with an adapter for headphones, does that one not work? I haven't actually tried it with anything, as I don't generally use my Play for music unless it's over bluetooth while driving...

I never got an adapter for headphones?

I would also like to know this cause i bought SOUL by Ludacris earphones from america and they are better than my Dre beats i had but don't work on the play. works on ipod, laptop, pc etc.

i can use all headphones in cm7
but for stock i can't find the problem

Came in the box with Verizon, maybe a carrier thing...
"Headset: 3.5mm Audio Jack (3.5mm adapter cable incl. for use with non–Sony Ericcson headsets)"

Why would you need an adapter it works fine on mine always has any headphone any jack

Beats headphones don't work with mine either, but all other headphones do.... Shame as I ended up buying a pair if b&o headphones to replace my senheiser ones that I use in the gym

It is something to do with how sony chose the heaphone jack standard.
iBeats have 3 rings or something (mic) and something like the sony ones have ground on a different ring so they dont work.
@marzak probably a carrier thing as ive got the standard UK version and its not got one.
@psxpetey The headphones say accesory not supported (On any headphones that are not the sony ones...) and the sound plays through the speakers.
Also the sony ones do not work with PC....
http://dl.xda-developers.com/attach.../1/5/headset-smartconnector-smartphone_01.jpg
Something called a TRRS adapter might work....
http://www.kvconnection.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=K-AD35M35F4&click=4101
http://www.meelec.com/MEE_TRRS_Adapter_for_P_Version_Headphones_p/adptr-trrs-35.htm
Also the adapter you are talking about is a EC250 headphone adapter which you cant get.....

I have found that there are a couple headphones that don't work because the jack is to big and the rounded xperia play surface won't clear the jack but all headphones and jacks that go in work I've never tried beats tho

Guys any old adapter will do. I found an old one off an old Samsung phone and tried it with my SOUL by Ludacris earphones and words a treat. Soo much nicer than standard audio

Will that work then?
Yeh, i think it will work. I have something called an iRig which has a headphone port on it. Plugged one end into the play. Plugged iBeats into headphone port. Can now hear sound through my beats

Sorry for bump, but the above adapter (The samsung one) works fine with my beats. There are no ControlTalk features but I have full volume and everything
Basically, any headset (nokia, samsung.etc) SHOULD work

I can confirm this, i found a VERY old nokia adapter and tried it out too. worked a treat. Same as above for my SOUL by Ludacris earphones, the buttons on the earphones dont function but audio is flawless

I used beats by dre solo hd just to see if it works and it worked (without adapter). I did notice that it has two rings on the jack and I got another pair of headphones with three rings and it doesn't work. I do have a pair of sony QLASPs and they work great.

Beats are really not worth the money lol just saying

I have found that holding only the center button and plugging in the headphone jack bypasses it, to keep the center button down, I used tape to hold the button and volume keys just incase since they do not operate on Android handsets. I have Beats Tours with ControlTalk and it works great. My phone is a r800at model (AT&T carrier branded) with custom kernel for CM7 and flashed FXP 119 (CM7.2) Rom.

cool

aight i gotta check the souls out

my beats studio and audio technica ath m50 are both working fine with this phone, then someone told me if i want to use the potential of ath m50 i should buy a headphone amplifier, so i look for a cheap one then i bought this fiio e6 for $28, now my wife's diddy beats doesn't work on her xperia phone so she tried my head[hone amp and voila she can use her diddybeats now..
so that's my suggestion regarding adapter try that fiio e6 headphone amp, it's dual purpose..

1. Buy adapter for two headphones
2. Gets working
3. Problem solved
4. Thread can be closed

[Q] Earphones that work with the HTC Desire (including mic, controls and volume)

I'm a new convert to Android from the iPhone, and for the most part I'm happy with the HTC Desire. There's just one thing I'm having trouble adjusting to, and that's moving away from the iPhone's default earphones for listening to music. My main hangup is the lack of in-line volume controls.
To get to the point - I'm looking for some good earphones that include:
- A mic
- Prev/next track controls
- Volume controls
What are my options? (If any)
Next and previous track not always supported but you get everything else on sennheiser ip50 ear buds. Sound great, loads on ebay for around a tenner, I paid about 50 quid for mine...

Earphones which work with Desire
I have been trying to solve the same problem, as yet with no real success. I tried the Sienhessers but they din't do everything you and I want.
Two suggestions; do your old Apple phones not work with the Desire? Most of the iPhone compatible phones I have tried do (I don't have an Apple set to try). The best solution I have found so far is adding these - http://www.complyfoam.com/Product/Whoomp!-Earbud-Enhancers - to the HTC stock phones. The sound quality is not that great but they are comfortable and the inline control has ALL the functions.
If you're really bothered, cut the buds off some decent ear buds and solder to the original htc set....

The stock HTC phones don't have volume control?
Bluetooth headphones might be an option

No they don't. Bit silly really!
Would be good to have a lead that plugs into the phone with the controls on and then normal headphones plug into that.
Something like this (the RC E100):

Hi I am using sennheiser MM400 for my desire, the best headphones i have ever owned, once you go wireless you'll never go back, bit expensive however but worth it. also has a mike so you can take call in between songs. Just so you are aware back and forward skip sound and play pause works for the first media player you open and that one only. If you want to use it on another media player you'll need to shut all media players down and then open the music app you'd like to use.
It's rechargeable and has a wire if you run out of battery.
Anyone recommend any good in ear ones? Tried my old sony ericcson set... but it fails to work

not only the headphones supplied are good but i can use my other bose headphones when i want! u can plug in any headphones,
and another cool features was the ability to multi pair! i usually use two phones and my laptop on the move. so now i can listen to music from my laptop and choose to take calls from my desire. or listen to music from my desire and take calls from my E71.... etc

Indeed. Must be the nicest headset €50 can buy.
Etymotic HF2s here. They've got one button which plays / pauses music and answers the phone. Not quite perfect functionality, but good enough for me. Also has the microphone on it, and the quality is pretty good.
Of course, the headphones themselves are wonderful. I love my etys, but they are an acquired taste. If you don't like in-ear 'phones that go in so deep that they meet in the middle, these might not be for you
Daern
I am using my good old Jabra bt620 stereo BT headset and its working perfectly.
best headset i ever had
I use iPhone 3GS headphones. Volume control isn't really an issue for me seeing as i listen to music on full anyway and the pause button still works so its all fine.
I am now using Sony wm 600 for a week or so and am very satisfied.

How does the button operate whilst a call is active? If you press it, does it hang-up the call or just mute it?
Thanks.

Pretty sure it hangs up. You know, I've never really scientifically tested it...I will do so.

Is it possible to use a headset and phone's mic for talking on phone?

Hi,
I used to use a Nokia 5310. With it, I could take a call by pressing any button, listenlng via headset and talking to phone's mic, while I was listening to music. Once I hang up the call, the music resumes. All this was done with 5310 phone and a normal 3.5mm headset (without any mic in its line).
Now with SSGS, when I was listening to music via a headset and taking a call with the headset plugged in, voice on the line wouldn't come through the headset. Instead, I had to remove the earpiece and talk to the phone as if the headset wasn't there.
It seems good prople here are able to play with alsa, and I think audio redirecting might be possible.
Could someone point me to the right direction?

I was just thinking about this the other day. I was in town listening to music and a call came through. It would be nice not having to faff around taking out the earphones to answer a call.

Same here, I would love to have this feature, makes the phone that much more useful and 'smart'

It is amazingly annoying to have to pull out my headphones to answer the phone...
In this case galaxy isnt a "smart"phone its from stoneage, have never hade a phone that behave like this..Is it a huge bug in Android?? or maybe the engineers in samsung need a brain transplant.
I'd like to be able to use the cassette adapter in my car for music and hands free
+1
I too would like to see a fix for this problem.
In the meantime I use my old Nokia hands free adapter with an inline mic and a 3.5mm headphone jack inside the car / when using my own headphones

I'm sharing the same dilemma. dunno if there is a software fix for this. I've read a few threads mentioning that Samsung had the mic rigged differently to enable video output thru the 3.5mm jack.
Same problem here. Looking for a solution.

Haven't got this phone yet but are you saying when the wired headset is plugged into the Galaxy S phone you cannot take a call through the headset?
I currently use a Nokia with a headset same as PhoenixFx pic, I listen to music > call comes in > hit inline remote and take call > finish call by hitting inline remote > goes back to music.....
Don't tell me this cant be done????

This is true, and I cannot begin to tell you how pissed I was to discover my Skullcandy headset neither works as headphones or as a headset. IIRC one of the speaker pins and the mic pin are the other way round on the SGS so its not compatible with normal 3-pole 3.5 jacks.
Instead of getting new headphones, I'm going to run with a Jabra BT stereo thing that lets you plug your own headset in. I love my earbuds, and I'm damned if samsung is going to stop me using them, particularly when they don't even have a non-stock set of headphones on sale themselves.
I doubt that this is the cause of the headphones/phonecall thing tho. I guess they just didn't even think of it when they were coding. I don't see why this is impossible, and especially with stuff like Cyanogen just over the horizon, could see it soon.

You can use one of the Nokia hands free adapters like I do (if you want a cheaper solution then get a 3rd party Nokia compatible one from eBay), however you won't be able to plugin your own mic, but at least the in line mic and your own headphones will work. Built in mic of the Nokia HS-45 is pretty sensitive and can be used even from a distance (especially handy inside a car)
I have no idea why Samsung didn't give the option of using the built in mic of the phone with a headset, or at least provide their bundled headset with a detachable earphone cable like Nokia does.
@Lostalone:
I Just managed to buy a samsung jack adaptor today. Samsung does sell one here in singapore. You can plug any third party headphones with the mic adapter. Works like a charm.

My Captivate worked fine but using the same headset on my Bell Vibrant does not work on calls. Where can I find said adaptor or is there a specific headset for the Bell Vibrant/Galaxy S international that works?
It should not be hard if we can see/edit the source of the phone app and recompile it.
I will be looking for the source and how to recompile.
I am aware that using a nokia adapter solved the problem. I am using one myself. Though, There are still Times when such adapter is not suitable, such as jogging.

firstly, all phones with mic that's "made "for iphones and blackberrys" won't work. SE recently releases "LifeSound" accessories that are compatible with androids including this hi-fi earphones> http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/accessories/overview/live-sound?cc=sg&lc=en#view=overview
OR you can try the new Klipsch Image S4A >> http://www.klipsch.com/image-S4A-headphones
both of which doesn't come cheap though.

guys,
i think i figured out the reason.. Its all down to the different standards that are being followed in the market as of date.
Search for "Nokia Adapter" ( i have added an attatchement)
Its a 4pole 3.5mm female to male adapter which alters the internal wirin to make it work in non apple mobiles.
I got a Jabra Rhythm headset which provides the adapter by default and it works spledidly.
You can get the adapter on ebay for $1 depending on your locality
Now you can use any headset/earphone with and without mic.

Link was:

Seller was mobimega and you can also find adapter at amazon.com
iv got Nokia HS 125 Earphones, mic and button works too! =)
but the sound is not so good!

beats earphones

The earphones not headphones, anyone got them do they fit?
Craig
They should, when you buy them check the box and see if it says 3.5mm audio port/jack. Our phone has a standard 3.5mm audio jack wich is standard in earphones, headphones...
the original earphone is very good already
They have a 3.5 audio jack so yes they should, should get great sounds if you install the beats audio drivers too
3.5 is not enough. Make sure it has 3 strips on the port thing.

The first one is an iPhone headphone which doesnt work. The middle one is a Skullcandy one and the third one is the stock. As you can see middle (skullcandy) one has only 2 stripes whereas the stock one has 3. Because of this the skullcandy one give crappy sound on the G3.

WRONG INFO!
the third strip is only required if the earphones have a mic....
also skullcandy gives amazing sound on g3....
i have 2 pairs (skullcrushers and uprock) both give amazing sound.
if the headphones have a mic then it will have 3 strips .
if they dont then only 2.....
wether they have 3 or 2 strips does not affect sound quality at all....
3.5mm is standerd and any earphone with this jack will work on our phone with its best sound quality....
but sometimes the mic may not work due to different standerds...
but as such all headphones itself will work perfectly.....just the mic can be tricky.... also 90% of high quality headphones wont have a 3rd strip cause they are made for listening to music and movies and not as handsfree devices...

btw if they are in-ear headphones i wouldnt know about the sound quality...
mine are on-ear and arround the ear headphones.....they are great.....

I mean the earphones themselves. I know that there is a beats mod here, but the earphones won't work on my g3.

For some reason switching ROMs helped for me. One day in like February I headed down to Best Buy and tried like 10 pairs of headphones. Most of them didn't work, but I found some Sony's. Now I'm on CM7, I went back to Best Buy a couple of days ago and for some reason almost all of the headphones work now. I'm still really happy with my Sony's though.

2 strips or 3 strips dont mind actually. in stock there is 3strips coz 1 is for mic. so tht actually doesnt matter what matters is ot of the 3 which stip is fr which thing. like iphone's earphone has 3strips still dont work properly coz the connection for right ear left ear and mic are different.
List for Samsung htc sony (not sony erricson) and nokika lumia headset and headphones that work all three buttons & mic
- urbeats
- htc beats solo
- Sony smart headset
- Nocs NS200H-001
- Nokia purity

Headphones for Sony Xperia S

Hi all,
Some of you know, that new Sony Xperia (2012) line phones use CTIA 3.5mm standard (basically same as Apple's iPhone). I have seen some phone reviews and noticed, that standard headset is in one piece, you cannot disconnect headphones. I am looking for headset, where you can unplug headphones and connect better ones, and of course it has to work with new Xperia S.
Something like we had with Xperia X10:

You could try something like this:

Thanks for an advice. I checked it somewhere else and it has got rather avarage reviews, apparently cable and clip keep breaking. Do you have one, so you could confirm?

Yeah, why not. Not only for me, you could post something for others as well. I have MW600, but I am not a big fan of listening music over bluetooth.

In the car it's convenient (not only music) and I always have a quarrel with the wire lol
I never can resist an offer when it's free lol

I also have the MW600, and I preordered my Xperia S with that free bluetooth headset as well...
I'm curious if it's any better, if not I may just resell the freebie one I have had my MW600 for awhile, and I have yet to find better
You realize the mw600 won't work right on the xperia s if you just plug it in?
Sony changed the headset standard, to be compatible with the more widely used ctia standard (same as iphone). The pins are connected differently:
You can offcourse buy an adapter cable so that it will work.

you cant plug the MW600 into anything, its a stand alone bluetooth device that you can plug your headphones into. Unless you mean the headphones that might come with the Xperia, which I never use anyways.

So I i really don't care about the jack and the other bluetooth device mentioned above works in the same manner.

Yea, it's a really nice little gadget I highly recommend it if you don't like all the wires. I always have my phone in my pocket or in a case on my side, because I am horrible with dropping phones.
I was on the Sony site looking at the new BT device, and apparently it has a seperate SD card for music and such, which could be big downside to owning that device if you are like me, and keeps a rather large music collection on your phone. With the small LED it would also make it a bit hard to dig through your music collection :/

Or it can go the other way....
Putting all the music to the BT devices SD storage would free up the space on the Xperia S :/ though with that space it's not really necessary to hold back...
meh, I dunno, I will see where this goes...It's over a week til I get even the phone anyways (I need to send in for the BT device apparently) we'll see from there how it goes.
I think the new headset can play music from the phone as well. And besides that it can act as a stand-alone mp3 player with the music on the headset itself.
So you could actually stick some extra music on the headset, it can take up to 32gb sd cards (a 2gb card is in the box).

I agree! Though the new Sony one is looking nice, but the sound quality from my MW600 impresses me every time.
I was trying to put on a pair of bose headset(with microphone) on the phone which i used to use on my iphone 4 but no go...it simply doesn't recognize the headset, anyone know what's going on?

I have the same issue with some Seinhauser ones. What the hell Sony...
iphone comp. headsets
Would be dealbreaker for me too...
At least my htc can use the mic en headphone part...
With headsets app I use the play button for play/pause/volume up etc etc...
I'm selling HTC sensation XE [2 months now] for one x by htc or this
sony xperia s......
I emailed Sony, hopefully they have a reasonable explanation. Cause if they don't know why I am going to be pissed.
"oh yes it is the standard 3.5mm jack" then they whisper "only works with some headsets", FAIL.
Have any of you compared the included headphones plug with one of the non working ones to see if they look similar or not?
I'm starting to get worried and thinking of canceling my preorder that is supposed to ship tomorrow...
Edit: Although after rethinking my question, that won't make a difference, both standards look similar... Hmm, I don't like the idea of having headaches when using different headsets...
They look the same. I had a buddy with a SGSII and his Samsung headphones work in the S AND he can use the sennheisers. Lame.
Headsets
HK being the crazy place that it is has a whole bunch of the headphones shops in the computer center, so I went around trying out a whole bunch of the headsets to see which ones work (HMV also does this too).
My testing included playing music and making phone calls and seeing if the button on the headset works.
Not an exhaustive list:
Sennheisers/Adidas are out (sucks cuz I want a pair of running ones)
Sony's are out (friggin' annoying)
Most that are iphone compatible are out
Jays One+ work (These are specific for Android) I got this pair
Marshall Minor FX work - I should have got this pair
