Crappy signal - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I have noticed lately that my service is way worse than normal, there arent many places I can even use this phone anymore, I first noticed this not too long after I had flashed the newest liquid 3.2 rom, then went on a job all aaround the south east for about 2 weeks. I thought 228 would fix it but no, so I went back to sense (sabatoge), and no change, then I went to mikrunny, still no change, I keep doin full wipes in between, everything but sd card, I even flashed the newest radio, I was on 722, still no change, I can't figure this crap out but my phone is almost useless now, o, and battery life sucked since then too, anyone else having similar issues?

I've been having literally the same issue and it started when I flashed a random rom

Battery life is relevent to signal strength. Crummy signal = crummy battery life. Make sure that your battery cover is on tight. The antennae connectors are actually on the back of the battery cover and if it is not making a good connection then your signal will be dramatically affected.

Thanks, yeah I knew that and already checked, its tight, I think I'm gonna try and clean the connectors

My gps wouldn't work for a while. Turned out the pins that connect to the cover weren't actually making a connection, so I pulled them up, GENTLY of course, and now they connect and my gps works great
Sent from my Incredible 2 running Zeus 1.3

Well I pulled the connector prongs up and scraped them, seems to have helped, there was some kinda gunk on the anttena, but I was afraid to try and clean it off cause I was afraid that the paint that is the antenna would come off

As for you battery life you may try a battery calibration. For some reason when you switch between some ROMs the battery stats get all confused and crap so you have to calibrate it.
Sent from my Sabotaged Droid Incredible 2.

Thanks for this! I'm on mobile and can't hit thanks right now, but I bent the prongs out on my phone and the signal improved drastically! I was planning to send it back for a replacement if the signal didn't improve. Now to re-s/off and reroot since I undid all that to verify the problem was not software. Which ROM to go with though? Hmm:-*

[Q] G2 extended battery problem

I bought an extended red battery, and it was working fine until today. I dropped my phone and now the battery will only work for a little bit and then the phone will shut off and not turn back on.
The original battery works fine, no problems. So my question is could my dropping of the phone have done something to the extended battery?
Did you peel the red sticker off? If you did then what's happening is the battery is making contact with the metal sd card holder and shorting your phone. An easy fix, which was already posted in another thread, is to simply put a piece tape on the battery in the same spot where it would normally touch the sd card holder and you should be good to go.

Probably dropping of the phone Idk but I dropped my phone about three days ago and after that it would not connect to signal so I restored to normal and it started to get signal later on but now it is really weak where I would of gotten full bars like my house now I only get 2 bars usually.

I have the same problem. I have done factory reset, wiped, flashed different ROMs and still have the same issue so I believe it may be a hardware issue but not sure. If you run an AOSP based ROM, AOKP, CM9 it still recognizes it as charging but does not give you the high voltage message. I went back to stock to check it and it gave me the high voltage message so I think it is part of Touch Wiz. Also on TW ROM, it caused problems accessing the SD card unless battery was low. Although not as bad without the message on AOKP or CM9 it still causes the battery to drain. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I took my battery out for like 5 minutes, and is not doing it any more, and is showing 82% battery,i think the problem is when you connect the charger, try removing the battery for a while to see,i will not connect the charger now,but later on i will and see if it does it again.
I had this problem as well. Took it into sprint they said the battery was bad and gave me a new one. I have not had a problem since

I have also had this problem, but managed to fix it. It's a risky procedure (could break charging port if not careful) but, if you look at prong that accepts the cable, it may be slanted or crooked in some way. This happens due to ripping the cord from your phone. Your supposed to grab and pull by the head of the cable and never the actual cable itself. What I did was found a small enough object and wrapped the end of it in scotch tape to prevent damage to the prong. I then slowly pried up on the left bottom side of the prong since it looked as if it were slanted, one it looked like it was level, I then pried up in the middle of the prong since it was still sitting a little low to the bottom. After that all my problems ended and have not had another issues with it since, although I have had to do this twice now, it works every time.
My brother had this problem with his phone. He had to get it replaced. It did the same thing for all batteries mostly charged and worked fine when the battery was low.
I have 3 different batteries so that is not the issue. The connector looks straight but I tried messing with it a little to no avail. Looks like I will need to unroot and take it to Sprint. thanks for the suggestions.
Just a forewarning, this is also a common symptom if minor liquid damage around the charging port. It's 50/50 at my store, sometimes I open it up and there's corrosion, sometimes not.

It depends on where it's at. My E4GT had a tiny water spot on the board where the battery makes contact. I set my phone on the counter to charge one night and didn't realize my roommate had left ice on the counter after making a drink, the ice melted so there was standing water there and it was late and I had been drinking so I didn't turn any lights on, water got behind the battery cover and changed to indicator on the battery but not the phone itself. It wasn't wet I allowed everything to dry out by doing the rice trick.
I bricked a couple months down the line and after taking my phone into a sprint store the tech showed me the corrosion on the board and then cleaned it up with an alcohol based solution. Then referred me to file an insurance claim. I sent it into Samsung instead.

Mine now doesn't shutdown,i turn it off and it just turn it self up on its own,i even remove the battery and when i insert it back it turns on on its own,i am not blaming ICS but the other rom i have before it never gave me any problems.
Also my battery drain incredibly fast,to the point of 7 hours of mild use would have me empty, running a game for like 20 minutes will lower the battery from full like to 55%..
Some times i just remove the battery or restart it,and the drains stops, but as soon as i restart or charge the drain start, even when basically all apps are close.

As a technician at sprint i see this alot. Its usually corrosion on the port from liquid damage

what i did was get a q tip or something small like a peeve of paper folded so that it is sturdy and scraped out the charging port. a lot of black stuff and dust was scraped out. never happened for me since then. make sure you get both top and bottom part of the middle prong

Q[How hot does your phone get]

My first Galaxy S3 went back due to excessive ink markings on the screen and since getting my replacement I have noticed it running hotter than I remember the first one being. The heat feels to be coming from the lower half of the screen / back of the phone.
I compared it to my friends phone and his gets just as hot. I am running FreeGS3 v0.1.0 and my friends was running stock - non rooted.
I ended up going to Sprint and the tech at the store replaced my phone with a new one out of the box and it is displaying the same behavior with temp.
I see no ill effects from this and am getting pretty good battery life for my usage, it is more of an annoyance for my phone to get so hot though. It seems a little warm for just browsing the web or FB on Wi-Fi so who knows.
It never seems to be the battery temp, but the CPU temp that climbs and is responsible for the heat.
I should point out that I had a Speck Candy Shell Case on the first phone, but that case has since been broke and returned. It is possible that my first phone got just as hot but somehow the dual layer design of the case disappated some of the heat, but I still feel it on the bottom half of the screen. My EVO LTE didn't get this hot in the few weeks I have it, and I have an Airave at home where it still heats up so I think we can rule out signal strength as a cause.
Anyone want to chime in with thoughts or suggestions?
Mine does that too, thought I was the only one.

Network related I think. Not necessarily signal strength but a poor data connection.mine gets hot as hell at the Bottem where the antenna is when my data is horrid.my roommates s2/e4gt Does the Same thing except at the top of the phone where the antenna is on that phone. Which would explain the battery life not being affected. The poorer the network performance the hotter it is. Sound familiar to anyone? Put the phone in airplane mode.and stress it in any way possible.overclock and run a benchmark while trying to play a game.what ever comes to mind.just leave in airplane mode and I bet it doesn't get nearly as hot as what your describing. I had a galaxy nexus on Verizon that rarely got hot. Where as my mother just got a sprint galaxy nexus which gets hotter than any phone I've ever felt but only with poor data speed as well. I've hit 120·F on my s3. I've seen her gnex hit around 140·F. So I'm blaming the network

Yeah I would buy that but my Epic Touch never got that hot plus I have an Airave at home. Doesn't heat up as much for me in Power Save mode with the CPU Limited. I think the CPU may be the culprit.

Idk if there's a bug, but check with betterbatterystats and see if gsiff_daemon is running at the top of the list... if it is, it's probably causing the battery to get hot, along with draining battery. You can fix it by using Root Explorer and renaming that file to gsiff_daemon.bak , it's in system/bin

I'm having this issue as well and its kinda bothersome. I was going to post a new thread (glad s I searched first). I especially notice it when playing games, especially graphically intense ones like nova 3 or mass effect. The phone gets hot--real HOT. I'm coming from an evo 4g lte and it didnt get as hot. Love my s3 but I'm concerned I'm really gonna shorten its life by running so hot.

[Q] HELP! phone crashes/hangs-restarts with dead battery

Hi everyone, I am having an unusual problem. I was running re-calked fi29 and when I would be using my phone somewhere between 50-80% battery it would freeze and reset the phone (or I would have to remove the battery). Upon restarting, my battery will be less than 12% then will immediately shut off and won't restart until I put it on the charger (when I do it still shows battery above 50%>. I always flash el29 before flashing roms, reset battery stats, and caulkin format all. I switched to Phantom rom and I continue to have the issue. This is happening every day and has left me up **** Creek since I am on vacation and using maps. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Also, upon plunging the phone in, it works ok, doesn't crash
Are you by chance under volting at all?

Is ur battery bulging out of the battery door?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
No to both questions.
Put your battery on a flat surface, smooth table, countertops, desk, etc and spin it, if it spins like a top its starting to bulge. The symptoms you're describing are those of a bad/bulging battery. Oddly enough it can be bulging but still test good in the machine at the repair center and they will do the spin test to confirm bulging and swap the battery out(as long as they have one in stock) even if it tests good. I've been having the same issue with mine and waiting for the corporate store to get some more batteries in so i can get mine swapped for free. If they don't get any soon I'm just gonna go the Samsung route and get it swapped thru them and just buy a cheap replacement to use while I wait for Samsung to receive my bad one and ship a new one out.
We are legion, for we are many.

Damn I'm having similar issues, but my phone will randomly reset without freezing. It usually happens when I'm in the middle of something on the phone too. I flashed 3 different roms, incase it was a rom incompatibility issue but no dice.
The battery thing is interesting though, I also carry a spare Samsung battery with me and the phone will still restart with either one in. Not sure what the issue is since this recently started happening.

Is My Phone Broken: JB Random Power Downs?!

I realize there's been other threads about the topic, but not this specific model and this situation. Specs...
Model: SPH-D710
Android Version: 4.1.2
Build: GB27
Anyway I haven't installed any new apps, obviously apps have been updating, but I haven't installed anything new recently. It started happening just over the past three days, the phone screen will flicker, like it's struggling to refresh then I'll loose cell phone signal, the screen will lock and then power off. When I try to power back on it shows the battery drained? I plug into a power source, let it set for a minute, it shows the correct charge and I can power it back on. It's happening roughly three times a day!
Aside from being annoying, yesterday I was on the road using it for navigation, and it crapped out. I had to find a rest-stop and do the recharge dance. Thank god I had a charger, otherwise.. well I'd have to find a gas station and ask someone, but really that's so barbaric right
So has anyone heard or seen this before? I'm hoping it doesn't mean I need a new phone, it's barely a year old. When it works I love this phone, but it's such a delicate POS sometimes, it really drives me nuts. Any help would be welcome

Glad to hear it's a battery issue, however I'd remiss if I didn't ask about this spinning battery diagnostic. So does the battery's casing expand when it's going bad, or getting older? Or were you just screwing with the new guy
Screwing with you. Just kidding. On these batteries when they start to swell you can aldo notice an effect on the charhe it holds. I forgot who actually found it out. But when you can spin it feely its going bad. A new battery will maybe get a turn or two.
