BT Headset with Name Announce and Custom Ringtone? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Any good BT headsets working well with ICS on the Galaxy Nexus? I recently did a trade for a Jawbone Icon but the damn thing doesn't work worth a damn. It only announces the number of the caller and plays the same stupid beep-beep audio tone on incoming calls. Aside from A2DP, which is quite useless since the above features don't.
Tried like 10 different apps to get this to work but nothing through the headset.
Things I'm looking for:
Name Announce eg "Call from Johnny".
Plays the ringtone I set for my phone.
Allows Voice Dial using Android's Voice Search eg "Call Mom mobile" or "map of pizza".
Also Voice control would be nice such as "Call from Johnny. Accept?" Then you can say "Yes" or "No". Not a big deal as you can just hold the button down to dismiss.
I don't really care about announcing text messages or calendar appointments. Actually I'd rather it didn't.
I had such high hopes for the Jawbone because it had an android app and was upgradable... and had lots of buzz around it. I've read up on the Q2 but I'm looking for feedback from people here.

Blueant Q2 definitely syncs and announces your contacts as they call with the option to answer by saying "answer".
Great sound quality as well and very comfortable!
Would highly recommend it.
Don't think it plays your ringtone though..

I've used tons of bluetooths and the only one I've found that fits me good is the Jabra Supreme. It announces your caller. So call from mom. And you can say answer or decline/ignore. And I have yet to find one that plays ringtone. But that I think of it. It does play the notification ringtone. And I usually answer before it rings in the headset. I'll test it out later and let you know.

Droid commando do say the name of the caller or if u don't have the name it say the number
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App

BluAnt T1, does all of the above. My only issue is that this is the conversation to do it:
Click the button
T1: Say a Command
ME: Phone Commands
T1: Activating your phones in built voice commands on your connected phone
At this point your phone takes over. I have noticed that if you have multiple apps the first time you use the commands you have to select a default to use otherwise the phone takes to long to respond and the bluetooth cancels the command.

T1 or Q2 seem to be the best answers. Any reason to pick one over the other?
[Update]
Just found a Q2 for $34 with free shipping and no tax here: http://www.bensoutlet.com/products/blueant-q2-bluetooth
It's a refurb unit but so what.
EXT LTE Galaxy Nexus - 4.0.4
Asus Transformer - ICS

You can use the app Headset Droid to get the incoming caller told to you in your headset

I believe the T1 is built to be the more rugged headset, while the Q2 has the latest "sound enhancing yada yada yada"
Q2 is also one of the most comfortable headsets I've ever used!

Have you gotten this to work?
I bought a Voyager Pro HD (which has A2DP), when testing Headset Droid it announces calls through the headset, but when I actually get calls it announces them through the phones speaker.
I've tried a few other apps with the same result.

[Q] iphone headset on MT4?

I bought Sennheiser MM60 for iphone. The sound is exceptionally good (same as PX100 and PXC100) with detachable cable (you can use the mic unit with other headphones).
The only problem is the calling button doesn't work. It can only control music player (either stock player or winamp).
What iphone headset do you use and how does it work?
Interesting. What, specifically, is happening with the headset? I've had good luck with a few iPhone headsets, particularly ones with just the play button like the v-modas I have right now. I normally use the SE MW600 Bluetooth headset, and I've noticed that the call button brings up the menu option of either the Genius Button or Google's voice software. Is that what you're getting when you use the button?

I got music player activated when the button pressed once (it can be the last track it played or play audio randomly.
I am supposed to receive Bose MIE2 today and post the result later.
The purpose of this thread is to share the experience what brand and model of wired (bluetooth excluded this time) headset used and how does it work.
update:
I just received Bose MIE2. The button control is the same (doesn't work on calling, but it works with music control).
So it doesn't work on calling at all? It can't take a call, place a call, or answer one? When double-click my v-moda, it places a call to the last number dialed out. It also works with answering calls. I have the Vibe Duo:
http://www.v-moda.com/headphones/vibeduo.aspx
I haven't tried the stock ear buds because that design isn't particularly comfortable to me.

[Q] Recommendation: Which Bluetooth headset to buy (have to work with Voice Dialing)

Hi
My current Jabra Arrow Bluetooth headset doesn't work with the sgs2 voice dialing (Voice Talk). I can fire up Voice Talk from the headset, but the sound/voice from Voice Talk doesn't appear in the headset.
Anyone who can recommend a good Bluetooth Headset for sgs2 that works flawless with Voice Talk?
I have got SE MW600. I love it. I haven't used the voice talk option as it doesn't support Finnish. But I can try it for you.
How do I fire it up? I heard you should be able to do it by saing hello galaxy but it won't launch. First have to start it? Does it stay in the background after that eating my battery?
Thanx!
Just hold down the button on your headset, that should fire up Voice Talk!
Good news about the mw600. Mine arrives tomorrow
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
MW600. Stand alone FM radio, long battery life (for bluetooth), v good quality audio, tiny and light, supports track ID, voice calling. Not a great clip or volume adjustment. Overall the best. Buy it, end of.
Yes, yes, yes: The recommendation of MW600 is overwhelming
But, please, spell it for me: Does the MW600 work flawless with Voice Talk? Is it actually possible to hear the voice from Voice Talk in the earplug and can you command the phone (dialing contacts) from the headset without problems?
Yes it does, you can hear confirmation through the bluetooth headset on the MW600. I bought a Blueant T1 today and it also works with confirmation over bluetooth headset.
The T1 also works by just saying "hey galaxy" not sure about mw600.
Sometimes the T1 says "this feature is not supported on this handset" but you can still call people through voice command. It also gets a bit annoying having to say voice command and waiting for the T1 to say "activating voice commands on the connected headset" then saying call contact.
Thanx, that was just the answer I was hoping for! Unfortunately I can't get the Blueant T1 here in Denmark, but Ebay might be my friend
I presently have the Sony which works very well with the G2x, but I would prefer a cord-free unit and so got the Nokia BH-505. My SGS2 will be arriving on Friday, and I am hoping the Nokia would rock with this phone.

Voyager Pro+ which is available on amazon is the best bluetooth headset which allows multipoint and a2dp as well. I might have used 13 or 14 headsets and this is the best even for noise cancellation, one word amazing.
VJ
I have had no joy with a Motorola H700 and a BlueParrot VXi Expressway. When initiating a call by pressing the button on the headset the audio/mike used is the one on the phone, and not on the headset.
I cannot believe Samsung still has this problem: a couple of years ago I had an Omnia and only a custom ROM with a different Bluetooth stack solved the problem. My last 2 HTC phones worked flawlessly...
This is an important security issue for me, and if anyone has information on what can be done ( I am new to Android) I would appreciate it. When I call using my VXi my callers can never detect I am on a cellphone:noise cancelling on this unit is outstanding, and I want to continue using it.
But if I find nothing to solve this I will have to go with one of the headsets confirmed to work in the maner they should...
BlueAnt Q2
it even come with an Android app
Currently have problems with Plantronics Discovery 975, low quality and stuttering sound. (Not what you asked about but perhaps don't try this unit!)
I have found a workaround to enable Voice Dialing and Digit Dialing from a Bluetooth Headset on my SGS2:
I purchased Cyberon Voice Commander and Titanium backup from the Market.
Titanium backup anables me to <freeze> the vLingo Voice Command so that it disappears from the installed apps, and installing Cyberon enables everyting I want:
- Tapping the button on the headset starts Voice Commander
- Bluetooth headset is connected to Audio and Mic
- I can say: "Call Jim", or "Digit Dial 8045551212", or "What time is it", etc.
The number of available commands is not as numerous as I had under Winmo and Microsoft VoiceCommand, but it suits me for now and the recognition rate is 99.99% with my Vxi Headset.
Be aware that this breaks all VLingo Voice Recognition apps in the phone because <it is no longer there>.
What I would prefer, and will continue searching for, is to have the headset button start Cyberon Voice Commander (since it handles the bluetooth stack correctly), while leaving VLingo active for other applications.
I am sure there is a setting somewhere that controls what application is started when the Headset button is tapped.
Of course none of this would be required if VLingo handled the Bluetooth headset correctly...

Seems like the T1 would be superior to the Q2 thanks to the noise reduction; is this right?
I'm convinced enough to buy ONE of the Blueants.

Q2 & T1 are top of the line
T1 is though because it's rugged & have slightly better battery life but it has simple voice commands
remember T1 doesnt come with ear hook so you can't attach it to your ear...
you can get a sweet deal on ebay for the Q2

Thanks garden jean,
I lost something in translation though...
It seems to me that both come with voice control (is one better than the other?), both have ear hooks (according to Amazon), so the differences are that the Q2 (Edit: sorry, T1) is rugged and the T1 has noise cancellation.
Is that right?
Can anyone say which they think is best from a usability point of view?

BT headset that doesn't try to be clever

Can anyone suggest a BT headset that gives good sound quality and noise reduction?
I have a Blueant Q2 and it's a PoS. It doesn't tell me who's calling, for a start; and because it's so 'clever', if I want to call someone I have to say "Phone commands", wait a bit, then say "Call person". So an extra step for no reason.
I am looking for one that I can press the button and it'll start up Voice Dial (or whatever it's called). All the name recognition etc can be done by the phone, thanks very much.
Does the Jawbone require this extra step/awkward faffing about?
Any others?
Thanks.
I am using Sonyericsson MW600 with my phone, it works great with music anyway. The song title show's on the display... I presume that the contact name will show on the display as well.
Havent made a phone call with it yet so that part I cant tell but I guess it work great there too.

Stock ROM probably won't do it (may need CM7) and even it if does, the stock music player is about the only one that passes the track info to the device.

Plantronics Voyager 855 is a combination of a standard-looking BT earpiece with a second earpiece unit that plugs into the first via a thin nylon reinforced cable to create stereo BT headset. I have owned at least 30 or 35 BT headsets and this is the best one I've had for sound quality, ease of pairing, long battery life, etc. Try Amazon: w w w .amazon.com/gp/product/B000UBNFT2/ref=oh_o03_s00_i01_details

Pretty cool, but I can't get the phone to hear me, LOL. While I can of course converse through my car's bluetooth, I don't think it has a "listen" option if not in a call. Going to keep testing.
the cool part is that it reads the name of the person who sent you the message.

Yeah I was driving and all of a sudden it pop up asking me if i want to hear it lol. Surprise indeed.
You have to hold down the home button then it will start listening then just say text then the name
If its stereo bluetooth, it will read it out and listen via the phones microphone. If its handsfree bluetooth, it will listen via the bluetooth device's microphone.
Also if you are using handfree bluetooth, hold the call button on the device and it will start the voice recognition on a WP7.
Settings are under "speech" in the settings app.
I used this feature in class all the time lmao. I had a Bluetooth earpiece and it would read the messages to me. Of course I couldn't reply else the instructor would hear me.
But I also am planning to implement this feature in my car. My head unit is Bluetooth capable so I believe I need to purchase a receiver for it. Hopefully the MIC comes with the receiver! Would be a very convenient feature indeed!
Question: If you have music playing, does it fade the music into the background so you can hear the text?

yes, the music will pause when the voice prompt comes up.
you can also set this to be always on, on when connected to BT, or on when connected to a headset.
i have an aux in in my head unit, and it works pretty well, the reading goes through my speakers and the phone uses its mic to hear me. it's pretty spotty with listening to me when the windows are down, but otherwise it works great to send a quick reply without manually texting.
Yes the music will be paused, if you notice my video, I have a DVD playing and it pauses it to pop up the message. Once I read it or ignore it, it resume back to DVD.

Ahh, IDK how I missed that link lol.
I use a bluetooth to Radio transmitter. The Motorola one is nice but I had to run "antenna" wires to my visor where it clips to get the best radio reception. I have use the
Motorola:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...QJJCzQRZNnA6udm6w&sig2=NvwWutkO_Fez31lWmMUVyw
and the Jabra Cruiser 2
http://www.amazon.com/Jabra-CRUISER...ACKAGING/dp/B006FK8CKY/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_2_0
The cruiser 2 DOES NOT have remote control buttons like the original cruiser or the motorola
I like them both for doing all the bluetooth functions but REALLY miss the built in remote control buttons for pausing/starting music or skipping back/forward.
I got the Jabra on eBay for $20 refurbished. They both have their quirks. The jabra on /off is a slide switch on the side whereas the motorola is in the back and you have to hold it for a few seconds. REALLY annoying. If you don't stream music or are out of a call for like 10 minutes it will shut off.
The jabra is easier to get the exact station you want it to be on. The motorola will scan and tell you what to tune.
Yes the texting can be read to you if you are connected to bluetooth. Has been a feature on Windows Phone from day one (back in 2010). You can also say reply, and then you can say your message. It will dectect when you are finished and then you can say retry to redo the message or say send and it will send out the text message. Hands free texting on bluethooth is pretty neat feature.

Yep haha. This is my first window based phone so i find it neat to have this feature. A nice extra surprise haha
This feature alone was worth the price of admission. I don't know why Nokia/Microsoft don't do a commercial with this feature front and center. With all the hub-bub about Siri, etc., this bluetooth, text to speech for SMS is awesome.
I used it in my Xterra with an aftermarket Kenwood deck with Bluetooth and it was stellar. I also used it with my Jawbone and had a great time replying to SMS messages with it connected.
I have had the Galaxy S, many iPhones, and the HD7 on TMobile and none of those phones had this feature.
They really ought to play this up.

I'm pretty sure your HD7 has this feature as well. This is not a Nokia unique feature but rather WP7 feature.
There are many nifty features that WP7 implemented well. Microsoft just doesn't know how to market them. Period. If MS has half the marketing talent of Apple, WP7 should already be No.2 in the smartphone market now.

This is a standard feature in WP7, one of the best if you ask me that I hope they are planning on extending. I use it all the time, if you are able to initiate the phone from you're care you can also sent text messages by saying "text <Name> on mobile" like you would a call. It's also smart enough to translate things like laughing out loud to LOL. But the odd times when you want to say something like "Go F... yourself" it will translate it to Go !#[email protected] yourself
My brother picked up a Lumia 900 after I showed him the feature so he could hear work texts when he's riding his motorcycle. He extended the feature by getting his provider to add a service that sends voice messages to him as text messages so he can hear if someone left him a voice message when he doesn't answer the phone....

Activating voice commands via BlueTooth with ICS?

Hey all,
I have a Sena SMH-10 Motorcycle bluetooth headset. Its always paired up and worked with my SGSII perfectly. All calls, music and even voice commands functioned relatively well. Normally, I'd press the "call" button on my Sena, and it would activate the Samsung voice commands with a "what would you like to do?" voice prompt.
Now that I've upgraded to ICS (unrooted, stock SGSII), the call button on the Sena doesnt activate the voice command. The phone pairs up fine, calls, music and notifications come through the headset. But as you know, riding a motorcycle doesnt really allow me to open apps or dial manually on the road!
Anyone have any ideas? Some setting in BT or Voice that I missed?

It seemed that ICS broke many features that we were all used to. I'm the same way with the blue tooth headset. I purchased a top-of-the-line Blue Ant G2. worked perfectly on GB, but not on ICS.
I'm about to give up and Odin back to GB before ICS and the maintenance update, when everything worked like it suppose to.
Yeah yeah yeah, ill be giving up the smooth transitions. but ill be getting back my scrolling wall paper, working BT, and a bunch more.

I'm having the same problem. I really hope it gets fixed soon! The only function that works is the long press on the BT handsfree (Motorola T505) which redials the last number.
Is this issue also present in CM9?
I'm using stock ICS. It seems to work okay with my BlueAnt. I activate the phone voice command by saying "phone commands" to my BlueAnt.
However, I don't have a headset, I have the BlueAnt S4 handsfree for my car. Haven't finished rebuilding my motorcycle, so haven't bought the headset. Do the headsets have the capability for voice commands? If so, maybe try that and see if it works.

Which voice command do you use on the phone, the stock Google one or vLingo? How is your BT/voice command activation setup? Can you get it to take commands when it's locked (my biggest problem)?
I'm interested to see if, perhaps, it's just a matter of settings.
