Equivalent of ODIN for Gnex? Can't boot phone - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Greetings XDA peeps,
I just purchased the Gnex last week and have loved the stock rom but felt the need for more customization (Not sure why im saying this as it is a given.. )
I found the Wugfresh Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit v1.3 and studied how to use it and read through the post/instructions for a week until I fully understood what was going on and flashed Codename Android http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1479569
I installed my proper drivers and used device manager to get everything straightened away, and made sure fastboot and adb were recognized before doing anything ( I should probably get educated on what exactly ADB and fastboot actually mean...googling now)
Since then I haven't been able to boot my phone and have no idea how to revert back to stock or push the original contents onto my device to just simply start from square one. I know how to do it with ODIN (or I did on my SGS2 Sprint)
For the love of god someone shed some light on this situation please =] I did search btw..couldn't find what I was looking for.

Still new to this, just restored my CWM backup and my phone finally booted.
I guess I overlooked something somewhere...I never checked to see what kernel that rom required as I should still be on stock but I have to find out how to check which kernel I am on.
Im assuming the majority of roms require the stock kernel though?

pretty noobish just read alot recently with my prob
I know about these exe files. They are the sprint ruu files, and are common knowledge. The problem is, I don't have a pc. It would be great if I got a Mac fix.

Dont know if this is what you wanted but i've unrooted fine using this file just put in sd card and enter bootloader. I got it from the how to unroot thread in the dev forum the name of the guy i got it from escapes my mind at the moment.

Rooting

Hey guys a bit ago i wrote a batch script to help people root their nexus s and their nexus s 4g's. why? because i could.. so anyways long story short, ive glanced over the galaxy nexus rooting procedure, seems fairly familiar . ive got a version 5.0 of my one click for teh nexus s 4g which now has menu options for the gsm version of the galaxy nexus. just need someone to confirm taht it all works buttery smooth before i go make a post about it over in development
P.S. Verizon customers your phone is already included, just commented out due to you not having your own CWM image yet. once you guys have that (official or not) ill make 6.0 with you guys
http://goo.gl/2DBZk
This working on Mac?
Nevermind... all .bat and .exe files
sorry when i have some time one of these days i plan on making a bash script version but for now i make too many changes all too often for me to try and maintain 2 separate scripts
Would like someone to confirm if this works properly
Getting my phone this Tuesday and I hope to use this
There's been a batch script out for rooting the GN since a week or so before the phone was released, from a developer who has a test phone: it includes versions for windows, mac and linux.
Superboot:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1352413
yea im aware of it, however that flashes a pre-rooted kernel. id much rather flash cwm so that users can then flash any themes/roms/tweaks. the superboot method indeed does root the gsm model just fine. but all it does is send a fastboot command. you have to unlock the phone yourself and have the drivers from somewhere else get the phone into fastboot mode so the script can send
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
my script on the other hand talks you thru enabling usb debugging, includes drivers gets you into fastboot to unlock (if you need it) flashes cwm and then guides you thru flashing root.zip but still doing most of teh heavy lifting for you (rebooting bootloader, unlocking, pushing the zip etc etc)
i was however unaware of this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356917
which is done by borky. hes a cool guy, when i had made the orginal one click for teh nexus s 4g he asked permission to make it nexus s compatible. was un aware that he had made a GN version tho that was a my bad... as such if anyone wants to use this then its of their free will (obviously) but ill step aside and give any assistance to borky should he need it and everyone should refer to this thread here for further inquiries regarding one clicks that flash cwm
Has anyone tested it yet?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
ive had over 40 downloads of 5.0 and no one has come forward and said anything... i dlike to check it off as a confirmed working by some users so qbking77 can make a nice sexy video on how to use it/root etc etc.
Has anyone tested this?

[Q] Quick summarize [yakju+bootloader+root]

Hey everybody,
I'm planning on getting my GN in the next two weeks and wanted to ask a simple question:
first of all - I will want my GN to be a yakju, I will want to root it and I will want to unlock the bootloader.
Now, I believe I have everything understood just wanted to be sure if you could help me..
these are the steps I will take:
1. Check if GN is yakju
1.1 If GN is yakju simply use the gnex toolkit to unlock bootloader and root.
FINISH.
2. If GN is not yakju -
2.1 Use step-by-step (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1391881) to change rom to yakju 4.0.4.
2.3 Then use gnex toolkit to root (already unlocked bootloader in 2.1).
FINISH.
Am I good to go?
TNX!
Pretty much thats the way it should be,,, advance congrats for the next awesome purchase u r going to make,,,

Hey tnx
I do consider myself an open minded guy and also I usually like to know the bits and insides stuff of things I do, I will usually prefer going the longer way (I.E - rooting\unlocking bootloader) then to just use the toolkit and pressing "next, next, next" because I prefer to know what every "next" does, BUT in this case, I think I managed to (obsessively) learn what everything does, so I decided to take the shorter trip to rooting+unlocking BL, do you think the toolkit has any disadvantages over the longer way?

If it works it works.
The thing I hate about 'em is...
If a user has a soft-bricked phone.
Comes on here...asks for help.
And I tell him to do some adb/fastboot procedure: he asks "lul wut?"
And we have to help him set that up...and assume he set it up correctly.
He then might complain "oh, ya. It won't recognize my device."
Which is possible in some soft-brick situations...but it also might be user error.
Thus making trouble-shooting/fixing 10x harder.
Just...do yourself a favor and make sure ADB/Fastboot work.
run "adb devices"
and "fastboot devices"
If both of those recognize your phone...I guess the toolkit is fine.
As you said, you know whats going on...so what's the harm?
That seems about right. Just be a little cautious when flashing a radio or bootloader, as any of those two when flashed wrong can **** your device up beyond self-repair.
An incorrectly flashed system or boot is "easily" fixable, though.

Tnx Actually I'm not going to flash custom roms\radios\BL's just yet (if ever), just going to flash the official 4.0.4 yakju from Google, including the radio that comes with that bundle

I catch your drift, and I know exactly what you mean.. I'm an IT guy, and apart from my job, I always learn everything there is to know about anything before I buy\change it in any way, to always be super safe and know what to do in every situation I can encounter.
Before I do something I will triple check what could and can happen so that I'm always 3 steps ahead. Thats the reason I already know almost everything there is to know about this phone, about rooting it, about unlocking it, ADB, fastboot etc. even before I bought it call me crazy..
Not crazy by my standards.
I actually did the same thing...
Even posted a thread "OMG LULZ SO I DO THIS, RIGHT?" as you have...
Because I was excited as hell and wanted to reassure myself.
You'll love 'er.
Best phone I've owned...by far.
While the OS (and a Nexus on Verizon...which we thought we'd NEVER see) is a HUGE part of it...
I was/am actually impressed with the hardware as well.
I could go on and on and on about my Droid X (Got it on release day...didn't fully understand the implications of a locked bootloader...and how it would hinder the experience over that of my Original Droid) and how much I hated having a locked bootloader.
That was MY main push. I was like...Oh. My. God. A Nexus?! That **** is MINE.
</rambling>
This phone STILL gives me the shivers.
Love it.
The 4.0.4 radio and bootloader will do for many more releases, I think. I don't think it's the radio's fault for the signal drops as a simple overclocking counters it.

How can i turn my Nexus 100% Stock?

I bought a used nexus its in great condition everything works but the buyer didnt tell me it was rooted already. Thats fine cause i was going to but i wanted to learn the ropes myself. So is there anyone to get back to 100% stock? He flashed a CWM too. I just want to do it myself. And is there anyway to wipe format the internal memory aswell? Thanks!
you can use this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
even if you don't want to convert and already have yakju or takju, this is the way you can go back to pure stock

Yup this guide is the way to go. Flash the "takju" images. There's full 4.1.1 images now too.
Thanks guys i have a usa gsm model and I guess i looked around and found out a way to wipe the internal data with those tools so i think im good and im kinda getting the hang of using the tool kit. But the phone has 4.1 i wanted to install rooted 4.1.1 is that possible? or how would i go about doing that? Thanks alot for your quick and helpful responses!

Don't use a toolkit. Follow that guide posted. That guide will wipe the device completely and put you on 100% stock 4.1.1. If you want root, you can follow the last part of the guide, which has a step-by-step routine to root also.

Why shouldnt i use the tools? they seem pretty straight foward is there something bad about them? But Im finally going to get a chance to follow that guide hopefully and go to 4.1.1 and then root it cause i just want root right now for back up purposes. But thans for the info!

The tools aren't inherently bad, but they're kind of a "black box" to new users, where they put their phone in and it comes out rooted/flashed. The issue occurs when something goes wrong, and the user doesn't know why because they don't understand the procedure, and they can't reverse engineer what happened to fix it. So what they end up doing is coming and posting threads, etc.
If they were doing it the "real" (manual) way, via Fastboot, they'd know what was going on and have a better understanding of what they're doing to their phone. Because we have a Nexus, there's really no reason not to just use Fastboot because it's the tool that Google gives us. You own a ~$650 (much cheaper now w/ the Play Store, but still) device, why not spend 15 minutes learning how to work with it properly?

I can understand that and i usually do want to learn the ropes but i was kind of thrust into the middle cause i bought a used nexus and it was rooted and had CWM 6 flashed to it so I am just trying to figure things out a bit or at least go back to Full stock and no recovory flashed so i can learn the ropes myself and flash recoverys myself if needed and i want to get 4.1.1 and root it myself. If possible can i use the tools to just go to stock and then learn the manual ways from there? I got adb and the fastboot.exe finally so i never had that or new i needed it and when i first used the toolkit to wipe my sd I think it installed some drivers that the tool kit told me to which im hoping are correct. I really hate to ask questions unless its needed and i apprecieate it.

Help Installing Custom Recovery on LG G Pad 8.3

So i just got this tablet out of the blue, didnt realy expect it and its not something thats really needed but it could come in handy. I figured id mod the hell out of it so it would be ready to go when i did decide to use it. I figured it being a name brand that doing all this would be easy. I havnt even looked into ROMs yet id figured id start with some custom recovery TWRP. Everything has been a complete disaster tho.
I had the thing for less than a few hours and done had it bricked and then about 10 more times after that. Ive been able to unbrick each time using the LG Flash Tool 2014 and a stock android 4.2.2 rom. I have the newer stock roms up to 5.?.? whitch is what i think was oroginal on it when i got it, but i figured downgrading would make everything easier. I still cant get anything to work right ive watched dozens of videos and posted and there so much crap out there its kinda hard to know what to use and to try, Were my particular tablet works into this time line.
Ive tried simple one click stuff that i think was the original tools. Ive tried the apps on the device. Ive tried hooking up to the pc. Using the command line on pc and on phone. Ive tried a million and one diffrent tools, programs, and files. My whole desktop is filled up with crap. The one thing i am able to do is root the drvice using kingroot but i beleave thats the one app you guys dont realy aprove of, but its so easy to use. I tried using some other root methods to see if that would help, but it didnt.
I read some were about the bootloader being locked and that being the problem, So i tried different things to unlock that but no luck. Then there was something about needing to downgrade the bootloader to the 4.?.? version or something, IDK. I am so lost any more idk were to go from here. I only get a new android device every few years because as long as it makes call i dont care and i dont tend on modding it all that much because theres the possibility i could be with out a phone for a few days. ive always been pretty good at modding stuff over the years but it just seems like android stuff just gets harder and harder over the years. Its starting to be more trouble then its worth but i guess thats the point. Ive always love doing this stuff but i just dont have the time like i use to spend all day looking this stuff up and getting stuff done but i just dont have the time to do that anymore. My eyes and back cant handle the hours starring down the keybored like they use to. Sometimes taking brakes screws up my concentration and it takes me a minute to get back on track.
Anywase like i said im kinda lost not sure were to go from here and i just figured id post and see if anybody would through me a line. If not well its cool ill figure it out eventually or just use it the way it is.
Dont have original info - I know I should have wrote everyhting down before diving in, but i didnt. This info is from the current stock ROM installed
Model # VK810 4G
Hardware Version # Rev.1.0
Android Version # 4.2.2
Baseband Version # M9615A-CEFWTAZM-4.0.10353
Kernal Version # 3.4.0
Build # JDQ39B
Software Version # VK81011A
Any other needed info please ask.
O its from Verizon
Did i post this in the wrong place.
I encountered the same problem but i've solved it by downgrading the stock ROM because the recovery is locked with last version of stock ROM.
