Make a nandroid backup in clock work mod. If you dont have clock work, you will have to install that first. Search the dev thread for the CWM recovery threads

Okay, i have cwm and i have it backed up. so if i download ics and flash it i will be able to restore my old data?

WAIT HE'S NOT ON MTD No no no.
You can't do that your on stock rooted bml...and flashing cm9 will put you on mtd restoring bml nandroids will bootloop it/ soft brick it and will need to be re odined to get back to stock.

1. Odin
2. Victory.pit file
3. A stock tar
The only reason for this is,it is the way to get back to the BML partition. Once you are back on stock, your back up will work as it should!
edit: If you use a non rooted stock .tar you will have to install CWM again. I am looking for the rooted ec05 tar for you right now.
this is a stock rooted ec05 tar from noobnl. http://www.mediafire.com/?opnq0n0pau8cu01

[Q] RFS vs. EXT4?Froyo or Leaked Gingerbread?

Hey guys, I'm sure this ? has come up numerous times, but, I'm still going to ask, yet, again. Ok, Epic4g Ext4, ACS rom & previously Midnight rom 5.3 which I really liked, but, kept getting FC with txt. msging apps after a couple days, don't know why. Anyways, so going to in all liklihood Odin back to stock and start clean. So, here's my ?, should I go back to EXT4 or stay with RFS? I'm an app/game junkie, so, obviously, going to root & am on my phone all the time. So, for a girl, haha, I'm pretty savy with these things & have been mgr. with Sprint & others, so, need my phone like oxygen, lol. Anyways, advice appreciated and pretty darn quick, if you please, because want to get this over with asap! Lastly, try out Gingerbread or not and what roms do all y'all like out there and why? Keep in mind, need it to be STABLE, STABLE, STABLE, fast would be good, and not a battery sucker, but, one can't have it all! Thanks!
Flash back
-Acs Syndicate
Then Odin the EE03 Modem
-Also the FC's were caused b/c you had Journalizing OFF
you need to turn journalizing off.
ok, still confused. So, yes, knew journaling was off, but, what did I need to do & where to, if I'm reading your answer correctly, to keep it off? Thanks for the quick response, btw.

Here you go when you flash Acs Frozen
Just flash this in Clockwork...
you'll need the Re Enabling one.
hope it solves your problem
Beat me to it. ^^^
U can flash the rom once u set everything how u want it go ahead and boot into clockworkmod do a backup then when that's done wipe everything 3x then restore ur back up. That will re enable journaling

So, advice is to Odin back to stock, yes or no? Then, obviously, root, ext4, correct? Flash Midnight rom (since that's the rom I want most, so far), Odin to modem EE03, then, lastly flash the reenable journaling file you linked me to? Not trying to sound stupid, and, admittedly, not a developer, but, I CAN follow directions pretty well. Thanks, again, guys!

[Q] Odin Won't Work?...

Hey guys,
So, I ran EH06, and liked it, but I prefer EC05 (more stable). I tried to Odin back, followed the instructions, but for some strange reason the phone is stuck on Gingerbread. Any suggestions/explanations?..

So right now, I've got a firmware version of 2.3.4, a baseband version of EH06, and a build number of GINGERBREA.EH06. I CAN change the baseband to EB13, but when I do that the firmware and build number do not change.

....What's that?
Nand backup in CWM creates an MD5 checksum. If it was in any way corrupt,or incomplete, you could experience a succesful restore with issues. Or an unsucessful restore all-together.
.....So does this mea there's no hope for me then?
Not quite, if someone was willing to share their nand backup with you, you could always put that inside the clockworkmod folder found on your sd card and try that.

Then you are only Odining the modem which is the baseband. If you restore a nand backup from 3.1.0.1 it will put your kernel and ROM back on. If you want to be on EB13 or EC05 then you will need to flash a ROM for that or after Odining a stock tar and rooting do only Restore Advanced Data from a nand.
Also if you are getting MD5 mismatches there is a thread for trying to repair those.

[Q] How to restore "Stock" recovery and unroot without reflashing the ROM?

Is there a way to replace CWM with the stock recovery?
Also, is there a way to unroot?

Yes. I can't gve an exact guide right now, but you should delete superuser.apk and /system/xbin/su or /system/bin/su. Then find the stock recovery

I'd like to use the OTA GB whenever it arrives. I'm on stock EC05 except for root and CWM, so I think reflashing stock recovery should allow the OTA without losing my setup.

Do you mean stock? As in the way it was when you first bought it?
---------- Post added at 11:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:42 AM ----------
Well if you did want it bone stock again but with ROOT then I have a link that takes you to Zedomax's website where he has a download that includes root: http://epic4gtouchroot.com/epic-4g-touch-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2-epic-4g-touch-newsph-d710/
To do it just follow the instructions and it will remove everything off of the phone and return it to stock W/root. To remove root just download ES file manager from the "Play Store", I hate that name, and then find the superuser.apk and remove it.
He says how to do this on his website. That's actually how I got into flashing and rooting and all this nonsense. ^^b
Make sure you put you phone into download mode before you connect your phone and also make sure you have KIES with the drivers installed on your computer.

Hate to say it Paden, but your posts have not been very clear.
When posting here, it's very important to be very detailed about what rom you're on, what you flashed, in what order, and any symptoms or problems you are having.
If I've got it correctly...
You flashed some ICS rom, didn't like it, then flashed back to Blazer's?
And things are working?
You didn't do a complete stock restore first?
What recovery was built into the ICS rom?
What kind of wiping did you do before flashing?
And why are you looking for another ics ROM to flash to?...

How do you do that
I was going to post a thread asking a similar question. I've been running blazer for a while, and eventually I downloaded the Goodness and ran with it for a week. It was nice and all but for the moment I still prefer GB...however, my nandroid backup didn't work, it told me I had an MD5 mistmatch. So I just went into the ICS recovery and reflashed Blazer no problem. It's been perfect since. Afterwards I was reading the thread on how to not brick your phone, and it said to do exactly the opposite of that. Does that make me the luckiest man in the world? or am I missing something. Would it be okay to try it again?

It's all luck, the current ICS recovery is very iffy on flashing and even wiping data is bricking some devices, if you want to continue using your phone I suggest making a nandroid backup before you flash ICS then flash ICS, and if you wish to go back to GB then ODIN to EL29 and install clockwork mod and restore nandroid, or it won't be long before you have some fancy paperweight.
MultiLockOn said:

Make sure u do a nandroid back up using the gb recovery before u try these steps...... Simple lets saY u are on blazers 4.0 rom n u have a zip of a ics rom put it on your sdcard go into recovery n do a full wipe i use calkins full wipe then i flash the ics rom keep in mind that after you flash the ics rom you will lose your gb recovery n you will have a ics recovery n if you don't like the ics rom u can go to the ics recovery n restore ur nandroid backup make sure to do a full wipe before restoring your backup n when you finish your restore you will have your gb rom n ur gb recovery... Ive done this like a million times n never had a problem BUT DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK... ONE MORE THING I NEVER FLASH ANY ROM USING A ICS RECOVERY

As long a your just restoring a backup from ics recovery you're fine, it may be a problem when flashing roms from it that results to bricking. So if i read right from your beginning post all you did was just restore so you're fine.

[Q] Do I need to flash back to stuck before sending back the device to tmobile?

P.S. If so, is there anyway to do it over Mac or through the phone itself since I don't have access to PC?

Yes yes yes yes
U should have done a nandroid of your stock -pre-rooted phone before you flashed superuser. If you did as u were suppose to then all u have to do is restore that backup and ull be fine back to stock. U Also have to flash stock recovery I think....in which case u need a PC and Odin.... as far as I know....I'm sure someone knows a better way that may better fit ur needs.
Also, there is a counter that ticks every time u flash. Mr. X, I believe had a post on how to reset that counter so that tmo doesn't see that u have altered ur phone. I'm not, however, sure how important that is to do.
Good luck

U should have done a nandroid of your stock -pre-rooted phone before you flashed superuser. If you did as u were suppose to then all u have to do is restore that backup and ull be fine back to stock. U Also have to flash stock recovery I think....in which case u need a PC and Odin.... as far as I know....I'm sure someone knows a better way that may better fit ur needs.
Also, there is a counter that ticks every time u flash. Mr. X, I believe had a post on how to reset that counter so that tmo doesn't see that u have altered ur phone. I'm not, however, sure how important that is to do.
Good luck

I really appreciate your reply.
I was on Ginger bread before ICS and I'm almost certain that my nandroid backup is from that ROM
I'm worried now! Assuming I can get access to PC somehow, would I have all the required tools to make my device good enough to return?

It doesn't matter whether ur on ics now or not....flashing ur nandroid backup will bring u back to unrooted stock regardless of where u are now. And yes....if u get access to a computer....and download odin and ur drivers...your set....
Do some research on the kernel counter thing I mentioned....a quick search should bring it up. U may or may not need it.
Search Mr.X counter
I don't know if I'm being difficult to understand. Feel free to ask questions.

Thanks again for quick reply.
That's good to know. I though that Nandroid, backs up the current rom of the phone, so since I did it when I was on GB to upgrade to ICS, currently there is a GB backup on my phone. So it is the stock ROM... good.
Ok. I'll probably will restore the nandroid tonight to see what happens. and will sure look for Mr.X. Thank you so much!
Oh, btw, how about radio? do I need to do something about that or it restores back to default by nandroid restore?

Yeah your nandroid will restore back to the exact state it was in when u made the backup....therefore you'll be back on gb and not on ics. Which doesn't matter if ur returning the phone.
Your radio will be restored as well with the nandroid

Oh, the problem is that my previous GB was a custom ROM and I made a nandroid backup on that... oh...
So summary:
1. Look up Mr.X counter thingie and figure out if u need it and if u do all the instructions will be there.
2. Restore nandroid to stock
3. Odin stock recovery.tar using PC. If u don't have the stock recovery a quick search should get it for u as well.

I agree....your not the only person who has been thru this. I'm surprised nobody has joined this conversation. Give it time
all of this may not even be necessary...sometimes they don't even check....but if they do ur screwed so better safe than sorry.

Yes, I should try my best than to be sorry. I hope someone can help me with this quickly. Because I have 7 days to return the device and have a hard time accessing PC...
I really appreciate your support bzlik88!
You will need access to a PC to use Odin to flash back to stock. Once you get a computer, it shouldn't take more than an hour and there are plenty of threads here to help you figure that out.
I don't know anything about resetting the flash counter. Depending on WHY your sending your phone back, it may not matter.
I filed an insurance claim on mine after it got a crack in the side. Even went in to the store, played dumb, told them it wasn't working right, and they sent it back for me.
At every step of the way when you talk to someone at Tmobile, don't give them any indication that you know anything about "flashing".
