[Q] accidentally uninstalled nfc.. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have the verizon galaxy nexus and i somehow accidentally uninstalled nfc.. Last month i tried installing one of the hacked google wallet ports for the nexus. I installed it through the clockwork recovery, and made sure to make a backup before doing this. That version of google wallet didnt work right, so i just deleted it with root explorer. When i found out that google wallet can now be installed from the market, i immediately downloaded it to try it out, but every time i tried to open it, it would get an error. So i went to my backup and attempted to copy the old nfc files back to the system folder (i/e: NfcGoogle.apk and com.android.nfc_extras.jar), but that failed to work.
So any ideas on how to fix this and get nfc working again?
Im kinda new to android as a whole, this phone is my first smartphone. Im hoping this is a simple fix and i dont have to to a factory restore or anything. My phone is rooted too if that helps, and I still have the google wallet files i intalled too.
The attachment is a screenshot of what my wireless and networks menu looks like.
Any help is appreciated

"Secure Element Not Responding" ?
If that's the case, sorry, you need a new phone.
You shouldn't have installed any hacked Google Wallet in CWM.

It said that when I had the nfc files from the hacked google wallet..but with the old files it just says "unfortunately, wallet has stopped" ..and I know that now, at the time I just found the easiest guide to follow for installing it though.

Damn
Sorry man, you borked NFC.
You might be able to use it again by flashing back to stock images, but you won't be able to use Google Wallet again, that's for sure.
If you can, try to get an exchange

Huh oh well , I guess ill just give up on using nfc..its not too important to me. Its just too bad I won't be able to use a feature of the phone.
@samsuck Maybe I will flash the stock images sometime this weekend and see if that fixes anything..hopefully it will bring back at least some nfc functionality. Oh and I'm pretty sure its too late for me to exchange phones 0.o

He clearly stated what he did, and that he used an old method that caused harm to a lot of phones. That's not it.

Backup Google Wallet

So I have Google Wallet and I'm bout to flash my phone... I need to know what the best way to back up and restore Google Wallet data is...
I could definitely be wrong, but i was under the impression that if you restore Wallet data after changing ROMs that it will most likely cause the 'secure element' error and you wont be able to use wallet anymore ever.
I believe the correct thing to do is to open the Wallet app, clear all data from within app. Then after installing your new ROM do a fresh install of Wallet (if it wasnt already included in the GApps you most likely had to flash).
Hopefully others will chime in and correct me if i misspoke
I use Google servers restoring all my apps, when switching to different rom . I've been using google wallet with stock, axiom 2.4, and milestone 2.
I never use Titanium or other method to backup apps.

if I clear my wallet data will it restore my $100 balance after re-installing it in a new ROM?
You won't lose your money. Google Wallet reactivates itself when you reinstall the app and log back in to your Google account. I've done it multiple times already on mine going between different roms and haven't had any problems with my google wallet.

Ahh the beauty of Google services and Android
As stated above, before wiping data and flashing new roms, reset the app from within the Google Wallet settings menu. You should be good to go after that. All your money and card info will transfer over.
make sure you document your user ID so if it doesn't successfully restore your account, google can locate your funds. some people here have lost their balance and sol since they didn't write this number down.

i made some backups. I'll go ahead and do the suggested clear data within the app before flashing

This is probably the safest thing to do. However, I don't even reset the app before i flash a new ROM (which I do twice a week), and i have never had a problem with my $$ transferring when i re-install Wallet
Does anyone know how to flash factory image to the phone via fastboot? I need help with this and my other thread about that is dead :<
Anyone wanna be generous with their knowledge?
http://www.wugfresh.com/dev/gnex-root-toolkit/ If you download the factory rom and use this tool it will flash the factory image for you, I have used it to unroot my Nexus and it works great.
This video encouraged me to activate google wallet on my phone. I got $10 for doing so.

Another google wallet question...

Will google wallet not work on a rooted galaxy nexus? It says unsupported device cause its rooted and ive tried a few times to use it and it wont work...or am i doing something wrong? Thanks

It will work, if you restored the app from a back up, try and this go into the settings in the app and rest the account, you won't lose your money but that helped me it when i switched kernel s

are you trying to install the .apk for google wallet?
I started getting that message a few days after I updated to the latest G Wallet. When I first opened it, it asked for root access and I allowed it. A few days later, I started getting the message and the app quit working. I uninstalled, reinstalled, restored from titanium, etc. Nothing worked. Finally, I tried installing and using a different Google account. The message hasn't been back and it works when i use it. It seems that if you allow root access, google takes note of your account and the fact that you are using a rooted device, but if you use a different account it'll work. Not the ideal workaround, especially if you associate your bank cards with your google account, but its working for me.
Look to pickup the nexus this weekend, i am look to rooted but use the stock. I would like know to know will i get the error unsupported device on the stock rom with G wallet
From what I'm reading it will work, only we are warned that there are no promises that it won't be hacked....

Problem with Google wallet

Ok I have Google wallet and every thing is up the problem is that when I try to scan it nothing comes up. I have nfc enabled so I don't see why it shouldn't work. I have used beam with the n7 and that works fine. Any thoughts?

Are you tapping the phone face up or face down to the nfc terminal?

Face up I have used Google wallet with this phone before but it has just stopped working all of a sudden. I I do flash but I always make sure I reset Google wallet
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I'm not sure then. If you've done it before and you always reset Google wallet then it may be a problem with the terminal. Have you tried using your phone at different terminals?

Curious, did you upgrade to T999UVALH2? It seems my problem started late one night when I installed the OTA. I did do a nandroid beforehand luckily. It took me awhile with nandroid restores and backups to be able to reactivate my Wallet on the latest official OTA. I thought everything was working until I tried to pay at two different stores. The phone did not detect the NFC at the register.
Late last night I restored back again to before I installed UVALH2, got Wallet reactivated, but I have not had the opportunity to try to make payment again. I have read a few posts on either the original Google Wallet install thread, or the OTA thread that a few users can't get Google Wallet working, I have not found a fix. I hope to get to a store today to see if it works from the old stock rom I restored.
Maybe you too are having a problem with UVALH2?
I flashed the OTA update and it broke my NFC as well. Wallet itself works ok, but the NFC doesn't make the payment. And it doesn't detect my NFC tags. I'm still looking for a fix. Maybe a different kernel?
My GW went down after an update from the store. uninstalled the update and got it work but got stuck on activation. any ideas?

Google Wallet Forgot To Reset

If you forgot to reset your Google Wallet before a flash don't panic you may still be ok. I did this the other day and when I loaded my wallet I got the insecure element but after following these steps I was ok:
1. Log on to my google wallet account from a desktop or laptop.
2. Clicked Disable Wallet App under the Devices section.
3. I then did a wipe and reflash a rom on my phone.
One that was completed I went back to the google wallet website and under devices you can click recovered, reactivate or found phone something like that don't remember exactly what it was.
I then reinstalled my google wallet app and today went to Petco and tested it out 3 different times with 3 different google wallet cards, successful each transaction (employee thought I was crazy though).
I would also like to thank ogdobber for giving the steps to install wallet. For anyone who has the issue the link to his thread is below and the steps above combined with his worked for my so might work for you.

I thought that once you get the "insecure element" error that something in the hardware physically changes, like the secure element fries or something like that? Does this really let you fix that error? :S

I'll either get something like "Setting up Wallet. Can take up to 5 mintues" and then it says my device isn't fully initialized OR it'll get past that and then error when adding the card. Anyone found a fix yet? Tried on CM10, AOKP, JellyBeer etc - no luck.

Same issue here. I think its something to do with our hardware. Also if I use the wallet app in the play store everything works but when trying to add card, request failed. I also noticed that about section says Google secure element version not present. A quick search revealed that the "secure element" may have been soft bricked thus causing the request failed error. Further research also shows that it can be fixed by removing your device from wallet using a PC. Then remove app, reflash. I haven't reflashed yet as I have far too many customizations. Someone try this and let me know

I was getting the same error. I contacted google wallet support through email and after a lot of back and forth, they got it working. I don't know what they did but there is a fix. Here is the response I got from them;
Hello,
I apologize for the delayed response. There have been some new updates in regard to your issue. These steps should help in resolving the
issue. If you have already taken these steps, please do so again. Can you please reset the device? You can do this by navigating to app
Settings > Reset -OR-- by navigating to the Android system Settings >Apps > Wallet and select ‘Clear data'. Then, reset the app by logging
into wallet.google.com/manage, disable your device then set up your
account again.
If this does not solve the issue, please inform us so we can
troubleshoot further.
Now, I have run through these steps probably 30 times, with no success. I flashed back to stock and still nothing. That tells me that they have finally figured it out. Funny thing is I RMA'd my phone and the day that I got notice that my new device has shipped, they got it working. Anyway, thought I'd post for others who have probably been pulling their hair out trying to get a fix for the app. Help is on the way (probably)
I have consulted Google support about the card adding issues this is the official response.
Hello,
Thanks for your email.*I understand that you are having issues adding cards to Google Wallet mobile application on your device.*I can see here that you're experiencing a known bug which prevents your device from being able to add your cards to the Wallet app, which we are actively working on. If you have not already, I recommend resetting the Wallet app and trying again periodically while we attempt to resolve the issue.*
Thanks,
