new update for lte galaxy nexus with in next 10 days - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So no matter what modem i run. My service sucks 1 to no bars
.and data so slow almost unuseable. Yet my wife has lte at home i barley have 3g. So o finally called vzw did everything the tech guy said. Lol even though i have already many times. So they are sending me a new vzw nexus for free. But he did say samsung gave them a bulletin. Stating a update was coming with in the next 10 dsys to address poor data signal . And voice quality. And others not being able to her you on the phone. So i wounder what build this wil be. He also said it was a direct update. Not through vzw . So if anyone was woundering no the vzw nexus will not have to wait on updates. We are still getting dorect updates.

Umm, I would believe a politician before any vzw csr....
good day.

that phone rep clearly gets his facts straight from the mayans.
the world will end in 2012.

You know better than to believe a csr Just because they sell mobile devices doesn't mean they are any closer to the vendor and it's development timeline than a monkey flinging its own poop at the zoo.
XDA would have posts from reputable persons about releases sooner than a near minimum wage with commission person would (not knocking csr's, just stating that kind of information is above their pay grade).

Ok, you're right. Thanks OP for posting in the wrong section!

I heard the exact same thing last week, that mid march is the expected release date to address the piss poor audio quality & signal issues (I get 3-4 bars lte at home for about 3 seconds then switches quickly to 3g).

Coincidentally I spoke to a Tier 3 tech last night and he relayed the same information to me. He said mid to end of March. This update can't come soon enough.

This isnt Development related. Moderator please move this to General!

I believe it.

You're new to the Nexus line, aren't you? Because you've got the situation backwards. Nexus will generally be 4-6 months ahead on OS updates. Occasionally, you'll get a small version bump completely unannounced, like the last 2.3.5>2.3.6 update on the Nexus One.

No I understand that Nexus's are Google's flagship and I purchased this phone because it was unlocked and so it wouldn't be outdated (in terms of official OTA's). The fact that Verizon reps have this information makes me believe its a rumor and not a fact.
I'm sure their are intelligent reps out there (and in the forums) but I've never spoke with a tech who could troubleshoot past pulling the battery and doing a factory reset. For them to be supplying OTA info that isn't already in the forums makes is less credible to me.

With respect, I think that is the exact point he was making

I called in because my G'Nex was acting weird during calls. After a few minutes it would begin "clicking" in and out where the caller and myself couldn't hear each other. It literally did it about every 5 seconds and sounded as if you were hanging up a landline phone and picking it back up. On speaker phone it worked better but would often sporadically switch back to phone mic.
After reading several threads of people having their devices replaced because of this issue I called VZW. I spoke to several people over about a 2 hour period who eventually had me factory reset my device. At that point I told him to make a note that I called with the issue, that my issue was "better" at the moment, and that I would like a replacement if the issue returned. He was very nice and agreed but hardly knew anything about my phone and said there were no reports of similar issues.
So again, there are intelligent Verizon reps. I've yet to speak to one.

Ics/samsung/iPhone4s

I think that samsung should pull out all the stops on ICS and let it loose to as many new devices that can support it as possible. Apple will give there phone the latest updates as long as the hard ware can handle it. Sammy in particular should give ICS quickly to compete with iPhones new iOs. Also to make up for the forever long wait we had to get this device. Ya they take forever but they must know its a problem and one would think there guys in samsung's "think tank" would let the company know where its lacking. Samsung's goal after all is to sell tons of phones and keep the customer happy as a fat kid at a ice cream truck ( yes there is a little pun in the ice cream comment )

no it does not
we are all hoping that Samsung tries to stick it to apple and dominate the US market similar to Nokia in the international market. I am as I think we all are that Samsung realizes that establishing support for top tier devices at minimum for 12th Months is what it is going to take. Now I say that we HOPE that they realize that, not saying they will. If that is the case, hopefully the community is strong enough to carry them otherwise for me its one and done on samsung.

isn't samsung now one of the google partners for timely updates? a bunch of manufacturers I think signed a deal with them saying they would release updates within 18 months of google releasing it(HTC, LG and others were also included). But once they release it, then the carriers usually take their sweet ass time pushing it out to us. from what I hear they gave sprint the los fix a while ago. It's sprint that's holding it up now
I believe they are on paper but I also believe that status has no bite to enforce it

Well at least Sammy isn't putting out updates like HTC. Every time I read about an update from HTC recently is says they are pulling it because of issues. Would rather an update be truly tested then just thrown at us with more problems then we started with.
Didn't the HTC Thunderbolt just get Gingerbread a year after it was released? The grass is not always greener on the other side.....
One thing that I don't see mentioned often is the fact the mobile phones are only a small part of Samsungs overall business; tv's, bd players, appliances, industrial equipment and more, are some of the things this gigantic company is involved with...Not defending their slow updating schedules and such, but, keep in mind that a company this big doesn't always focus the amount of attention on every division that they probably should.
I knew this coming into this phone, so, I am not really surprised in how long it has taken them to get updates out in the past, and, I doubt it will get much better moving forward, so don't expect them to be "first to market" when it comes to the latest and greatest software for this phone..

who knows...In their minds, its probably not that big of a problem, and, they probably figure they are working at a proper pace for getting the issue addressed for the "small percentage" of people who have the issue...
I'm sure they are not sitting around in their board room worrying about LOS...
Here again, not defending them, just saying'...

So we all bought a Nexus phone expecting...

That we would get OS updates rolled out pretty much as soon as they are released. So why are we waiting for an "official" release for 4.0.3 to make it's way to the Verizon LTE device?
Verizon is probably testing it to make sure it's reliable and fixes the signal hand off.
There are reportedly problems with the 4.3 update that's been going out else where. They have temporarily suspended it. Also, there is an additional update for the LTE version (assuming that's the one you have), so it may be delayed.
Patience. Not all the galaxy S's are updated simultaneously, there still needs to be approval from the carrier, even though it's a google phone.

I don't think 4.0.3 has even rolled out for the GSM Galaxy Nexus, let alone the LTE one. It's rolling out to the Nexus S right now, so I'm sure the Galaxy Nexus will get it by the end of the month, or early January (it is the holidays you know).
i must admit i found it a little odd that even the GSM GN is only on 4.0.2 and the same day basically the nexus S was updated to 4.0.3, seems maybe something was wrong with the 4.0.3 update making it take a little longer for the GN
i expected:
-no fragmentation
-insta-updates
-google products to work
i dislike that there are multiple builds out; that google only promotes the verizon copy; that it is manufacturer and phone provider-branded; that google's own WALLET app is not officially supported (atleast on GSM)
its beginning to seem less and less "google-like"

Updates are region specific as basebands vary by region based on what frequency bands are used. Only 1 nexus device supports Google Wallet. The NS4G. The original NS doesn't even support wallet officially. Your complains are kind of invalid.
4.0.3 has battery drain issues and supposedly Google pulled that ota. Also the ns4g hasn't even got the ics ota yet...
I guess you can call it fragmentation but devs always compile the latest roms anyways. Iono it'd not a big deal for me lol

please bear in mind, regardless, you will always be the first to get the latest update from google.
question is, people seems to be able to wait for days, not weeks, where as we all know, it does takes weeks for google to release a update.
but in comparison to other manufacturer, we are talking about months in oppose to weeks.

As said already. You are taing about days or weeks. Where as all other phones you are talking a few months.

Google No Longer Supports the LTE - CDMA Verizon Galaxy Nexus? - Updated, New Info.

http://www.droid-life.com/2012/02/0...ons-lte-galaxy-nexus-to-be-a-developer-phone/
Update: It looks like all CDMA devices are no longer supported, this includes the Nexus S 4G on sprint.
Update 2: There's no evidence that this will negatively impact end users and OTA's. Things are still unfolding...
Update 3: Google WILL continue to support the Verizon Galaxy Nexus via OTA's. You can put the pitch forks away if you're not a dev and just want OTA's.

This would not surprise me. Remember this is still Verizon (Major Carrier). They still want control of the devices on their networks. Kudos to them for giving users the choice of the Galaxy Nexus even though its not considered their flagship. Google not providing the device support in the future will be very bad but this shows that updates will have to come from Verizon.

Someone might as well get the petition going now. The war has already broken out in the Droid Life comments. For User's Unlocked/Rooted/ROM'ed this isn't as big a blow but the reason most of us purchased the device was because it was a developer phone. Verizon's refusal to allow Google Wallet and support the openess of a developer phone could easily have caused this. My speculation is that Verizon doesn't want to roll out updates as fast as Google wants too and there is some kind of conflict there. Considering there is a leaked 4.0.4 and we haven't seen 4.0.3 released officially is good evidence of this. Just my opinion.

Seriously, merge these threads into one. That page has nothing to do with updates.
The page stating CDMA devices aren't supported is for building AOSP builds for target devices. It has nothing to do with OTA updates.
You'll notice another Nexus CDMA device missing, the Nexus S 4G. Guess where it gets its updates from and always has (it's not Sprint)?

I've been considering paying the ETF and leaving for awhile now. The only thing holding me to stay has been my unlimited data I was grandfathered into, but I'm sure that won't last much longer with the way things have been going (throttling etc.). I'll probably buy a GSM nexus and go month to month on another carrier. It's kind of the final straw.
Why is this such a big issue ? The ability to apply the stock yoku OS is available. Once that's done the phone will receive Google updates, especially for unlocked GNex

Number 1 reason this whole thing sucks for me.
I am a Pilot with Air Canada.
During recall #1 when Samsung Canada was slow to react saying nothing was wrong with their phones I literally had to ask "are you willing to take the risk of my Note 7 having an incident in my flightdeck" to get somewhere.
I used an old phone until my replacement was ready ( I ordered directly from Samsung Canada and they refused to issue me a loner saying my phone was safe to keep using, even while I told them I AM AN AIRLINE PILOT). I have been using my new Note 7 but now I will have to stop again.
Yet again, Samsung Canada is behind the times (and will continue to be) and told me TODAY that my new Note 7 is perfectly safe and I should continue using it. Once again, telling them I AM AN AIRLINE PILOT went wooosh, right over their heads.
I am getting tired of this. If there is a second recall I am demanding a full refund for the phone and all accessories.

So, if you are pilot, you should never carry any device wilth lithium batteries, ANY lithium batt operated device has the chance of a burning event
I think OS updates are over rated anyway. I rarely update my devices - they are usually one, at most two year devices and if an update does come within the time I actually use the device, it usually has bugs that need to be worked out the first couple months and rarely is there enough upgrade anyway. Sometimes it makes the phone worse. I am on my original custom ROM on my Note 4 Dev edition. Disabled OTA apk's via titanium. I have disabled OTA's on my N7 via Package Disabler. Neither my replacement N7 nor my original N7 did I take the battery "fix" OTA. I froze that first off on my new N7 even though it had downloaded it I never installed the update. So I have no reason to take a VZ OTA and now I can root my N7 if I want to. Doubt that would effect the recall if I have to send my N7 back. I am fine with MM. I am fine with this phone as is - best phone in the world is good enough for me.
