[Q] Compiling Android from Source for Evo 4G - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'd like to start poking around a bit with the Android source; but had a few questions and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.
I just watched XDA's blog regarding compiling Android, but it was all for devices that are made for the native code - and as we all know, the Evo is not one of those.
So I figured before I jump into this and go through all the trouble of setting things up and all, I wanted to ask - what would I need to do differently to compile a flashable zip for my Evo? Obviously I can't go straight from the 4.0.3 source, so where would I be able to find a compatible repository for the Evo?
If I could find something that would work to begin with without any tinkering then that would be great (And then I could break it later while I learn and play around a bit )

Search for a thread in the dev forum by lithid-CM. Its a guide and a good place to start.
Good luck.

[Q] Differences between Fresh Evo and Sprint Lover's?

I've used both ROMs and they're awesome, stable, and fast. Beyond a few differences, though, nothing really different sticks out to me except that Fresh doesn't use the Sense launcher.
You are not going to get flamed because you are not asking which one is better, you are going to get flamed for posting this in development, and it is your first post? You indeed are asking a question so this belongs in the forum called Q&A, it has nothing to do with development. Mods, please move.
Sprint Lovers
For the most part both are quick and work fairly seamlessly. I prefer Sprint Lovers personally but that's me. I think as a whole it works smoother, but that's an aesthetic thing. Both give you what you want out of a custom rom, wifi tethering and all that. Fresh has issues with clockworkmod recovery though, need AmonRA in order to use properly. Personally this irritates me but I don't really see it as a problem. The one nice thing I found in Fresh that came with it automatically was the file manager it provides however all you need is ASTRO with Sprint Lovers and you're good to go. Fresh is more customizable for the average user I suppose but if you are comfortable with adb and SDK then you should be able to customize on your own anyway (look into themeing and how it's done properly before you attempt to do anything and by all means don't mess with .9 files unless you have an understanding of how they work) Other than these issues I didn't find any major differences but have my preference as you can tell. Try some others out too though, some people like Cyanogen's stuff. Good luck.
This WOULD be the Q & A... eh yeah that's all. Moron

Aosp is down right now so if you want to build that your out of luck.
If you wanna build CM go here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Main_Page
They have a good walkthrough there.

Chef Central is a good place to start. The first post is by Cyanogen and explains some of teh things you should know if you really want to be a serious developer. The second post is to the Android kitchen which will allow to make simple ROMs. Maybe once you've got that tackled you can move on to using source.

Site Ideas

So, I have taken a Web Design course and just invested in Dreamweaver and Photoshop (both CS5.5). I am looking to make a site similar to my guides. Kind of an Incredible 2 reference site. I was wondering what things you guys would like to see in this type of site. Thanks.
All your guides you made, and a forum like setup for anyone who doesn't understand them completely as well as other walkthroughs and general android news. Also see about making it tapatalk compatible.
That would a lot of help, to noobs and a directoryof dinc2 info.
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
Well I have no idea about tapatalk and forums, so I would definitely need some help with that.
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda premium
I actually think there are enough Dinc2 forums out there. I'd personally be more interested in a nice, neat maintained list of ROMs, tutorials, and resources. Info tends to get buried in forums, especially for a noob.

Guys, I am working on the site, but I need help with a name. I originally came up with "HTC Resources" but then I might get into copyright issues, and make it seem like I am affiliated with HTC. Any ideas for good names?
Vivowmania.
Hah I dunno I suck at stuff like that.

Well, the site barely has anything done so far, because I've scrapped stuff several times, but I like where it's going now. The name I have decided on is:
quietly rooted: make the most out of your HTC phone
Man I had the same idea as for making a reference site for the phone. Would you mind if I linked you're guides in it? You wrote up some good stuff that's helpful.
Sure. BTW, I'm done working for the weekend, as I'm having some issues, and I need to talk to someone about it, which I'll do Monday or Tuesday.

[Resolved] Where should I start to build from AOSP

Hello everyone,
I'm interested in building my own ROM for my phone and would love to build directly from AOSP source. I've done some research about setting up the build environment and everything, but unfortunately all guides I have read and found is for the Nexus set of devices. I have also read about cooking and building from CM, AOKP, RootBox, ect... But I would much rather build straight from AOSP.
Can anyone give me some tips/links on where I can start?
Thanks!

Google has a bunch of great information on the AOSP website. Guides and everything.

I am aware, I have been primarily searching Google but the only results I find are for other phones. I don't seem to find any information for this phone, and that's what I'm looking for. =)

I don't think you're quite understanding me. The main aosp website has a section that tells you all you need to know about how android is built from the ground up and how to get started doing that.
Edit: at least it did when I started looking into it. Haven't been to that site in a while.

I found somewhere in a thread here in xda someone had put together a pdf that explained how to develop specifically for the I747. Search around. I've been trying to look for the thread but have had no luck so far

Your motivation gave me the will to find it lol. Knowing that it was there I spent about an hour searching and combing these forums to find it, and I finally did! =D
Wasn't the title I was expecting it so I probably overlooked it a few times lol.

Thanks a lot man! Ton of good information I get to look over now lol.

[Q] {Q}Can someone make A list of Wi-Fi calling enabled roms.

Probally will get royally flamed for bthis or have it removed, But for those like me that have to have wifi calling on our phones, is it possible for someone to make a thread with a list of ROMs with this feature. i would, but since I'm relatively new to this scene, and don'tknow any of thedevs, i wouldn't be able to get there permissions. I would make it myself if they would allow.
You can post info like this about roms, just don't post links except ones that are to the rom thread.
Unless you want something old, all roms that are built using the latest T-Mobile build, UVDMD5, will most likely have wifi calling. Just look for that build in the op and if you don't see it, move along to the next. If you want to cross reference an older rom to see if its a T-Mobile base, just compare to the build number in my firmware thread.

So I can configure a list as long as I only list links to threads. I thought even that it was considered wrong to do without consulting the dev. Just dont want to step on toes. And if was to compile the list myself, would I put it in development section or general information section.
Sent from somewhere bizarre and no I don't want to talk about it.

Yup. Perfectly fine to do that. You just dont want to post links to their actual roms w/o permission. Some devs like to keep an eye on download counts and stuff like that. This way they know where everyone gets the download link from. Honestly though, most probably wouldnt even care about that, but still its best to ask for anything else.
Id say this would go in the General Section.
If it is just going to contain info about the ROMs, you should post it in General. If you end up including anything like a FAQ or Q&A, then it could go in the Q&A section.
Never start a thread in the development sections unless you have something to release such as a rom or mod. (or at least the plan to release and are actively developing a WIP (Work In Progress)).
Never post questions or general info guides and such there. If deemed it needs to go there in the future, it can always be moved.

In general section. Linked in sticky roll up. Rom Bible. You can also use the link in mt3g's sig if youre on a computer. You can't see it from the app.

It probably needs to be updated, I might do that today before work, if the time arises. But it shouldn't be too difficult to find them.
