ICS Running on SGH-T989 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

So, Here are some screen shots of ICS running on my T-Mobile SGH-T989. Just about everything does not work yet.... I have downloaded the Android 4.0 rom for the International version that just got released to see if maybe I can pull some info from it...

Well he couldn't continue so he oepened the source for everyone, let<s see where this guy bring us

Yes xboarder open sourced so we could continue working on it... He brought it a long way and hopefully we will get it the rest of the way..
and the eng just means engineering build

you should get someone with kernel experience to check your cpu voltages

Awesome! Good luck!

Good call. Besides removing bloat ware there is really no reason for this phone. None of the custom roms offer much of anything over stock.

Wrong. What about free wifi tethering? I think you can root but do not need to run a custom rom, just run the stock rom.

looks good, getting it to just boot is nice. hopefully someone else can take it the rest of the way so we can get this on our phones asap.

You can easily get wifi tethering without a custom rom along as you are rooted.

How do I do that? I have a rooted, stock ROM, with bloatware removed and is CIQ free, but I do not know if it has free Wi-Fi tethering.

Simple, install titanium manager ( id recommend pro) and either freeze (pro only) or delete tether manager or whatever the programs called that's makes you sign up for hotspot

Its actually just crespo in the updater script. But I'll double check to make sure I dl'd the right one. Its just framework stuff so I'm not sure why it wouldn't worm, but then again I don't know much lol

I wouldn't. I would try the crespo4g version for sure. I don't know if it matters but your odds will be better at least
Well maybe you will have better luck, but I just tried pushing the files over with adb and setting permissions, rebooted and couldn't get pass boot animation for cm9 alpha 2. Maybe things like these require a wipe of cache & dalvik (but ics wiping anything not recommended), but then again I have a feeling using systemui.apk might be ok, but not so sure about the framework since its from a different phone. So now I'm currently odin back and trying to flash back to cm9 before bed time
Yeah I'll think I'll hold off til some nice dev makes it for aokp since I'm mobile right now

What rom are you working it for, and how difficult would it be to adapt to other roms (CM9/AOKP/MIUI)?

So anyone having battery drain problems its probably because of this file taxing the CPU at 100%. All I did was rename it to include .bak and removed the execute permission. Phone is now sleeping and virtually no lag. All that urks me now is that wifi direct is disabled in this build.

Can we root or install roms on the GS3?

My Galaxy nexus just died. I dropped it and cannot read the sdcard inside it. I tried CWM recovery, and it gives me io errors when trying to flash it..
I have 3 options:
Repair, get the S3 or wait for the next nexus if it comes out on october 29th.
What would you guys suggest I do? I really love the Nexus brand because i get all the updates directly from Google.. I also love Android 4.1.2 and I know the S3 does not have it..

you need to slow down and not post until you realize where you are. the is XDA. a place where things in the mainstream are not. that being said. we have Android 4.1.2. unlike the rest in the mainstream that don't. so just take my advice and search around the forums before creating threads of your own.
The answer is Yes, I am currently on the Cyanogen 10 Nightlies ... Everything works great aside from some random screen artifacts in youtube and the overall very functional and worth the dabble.

Well, technically it's not out for AT&T or Verizon or TMO.
But it is officially out for Sprint now I think. Released a day or two ago from what I read.
But most or all of the GSIII's have 4.1.2 available via custom ROM installs.
Really? Your title can't be serious. 1. Your on XDA. 2. You made mention of CWM, so you know rooting. 3. One tab back leads you to all GS3 development - I'm assuming you found your nexus rooting info on here so you're well aware of how the site is organized.
Is it April 1st again? There's another thread asking about rooting tutorial.

In your (hs133) or anyone else's opinion that has made the plunge, besides facebook and netflix working, how does this compare to iBot's MIUI ROM as far as tweaks, smoothness, stability, etc?
Edit: Also, do you plan on updating or porting this ROM with each weeks release?
Thanks for a new flavor of MIUI on our devices!

I have always prefered MiUi Us because of the Tool Box and what it offers with customization. The rom feels pretty smooth right now, but as far as iBot's MIUI. Well he is a pro and I'm still in diapers when it comes to MiUi stuff, but I love to learn new things. I will keep updating as much as possible and more frequently as my porting skills improve. I'm not sure how current I will go at the moment because I believe there are theme issues if I have been reading correctly.
Everything seems to work smooth.. I did check to see if i'm connected to LTE, and it still says hspa.. I know there's LTE where i live, its worked on other roms. Any idea if there's something i'm missing, or an option i can enable? I checked in the settings/network settings/preferred networks, and LTE isn't even an option
Just curious if porting from the i9300 version of miui.us would be easier than the Verizon version. Perhaps less issues with LTE (assuming there are any). Thanks for the work!

Maybe getting ready for the upgrade?? :/
Seems like another minor ota baseband/modem update. Perhaps more phones are getting it though most of the gentlemen on the forum use custom roms so no one noticed. Or maybe..... Just maybe noodles is right.

I'm contemplating on it. At first I wasn't going to since I'm going to sell this handset within the month. I just don't know which method of rerooting I should use.

So.. I just got my replacement phone from T-Mobile. Last ones USB port failed. Any who I haven't rooted or anything. Gonna leave it non rooted and sell this bad boy for a pretty penny to add towards my Nexus 4.
Anywho I just checked About Phone in the settings and my base band is T989UVLI1. My build number is IMM76D.UVLI1.
UVLI1??? Anyone know anything about this??

From the docs provided, T-mobile does not intend on releasing it, not even optionally. Perhaps you can provide a system dump, to show tmobile, dont worry about, we got this!
I'm also running T989UVLI1/IMM76D.UVLI1 after having my PBA replaced by Samsung.

Well... I just flashed CM10 stable. IMO The stock ROM wasn`t worth it. There was no noticeable change from UVLH1 that I saw. In fact I thought it ran a bit worse. Maybe it was all the bloat. But the radio I haven`t changed so we can still rip that bad boy out. Fullflex still has his stock UVLI1 installation intact though.
