Need Some ODIN Help! - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Flashed an ICS tar and after the boot screen it takes me to an android with something spinning and what looks like a bar on the bottom. Let it sit for a while but it just stayed like that. Any ideas on what this is or what I did wrong? Please let me know!

it went to kernel panic upload mode after sitting at that screen for a while

If he is flashing ICS via the Odin tar he should NOT need to wipe anything. The tar could be bad (maybe a bad download) or something. The screen he saw though is normal on first reboot as I've seen it also but it reboots within a minute (or less)

The 1 clicks are not bad to flash. I do have a EG30 tar but it's to big to put anywhere without breaking it down into smaller parts. But using the 1 click flash able tars should do the trick regardless.

i flashed a el29 tar and everything worked in odin but when i boot up after the boot screen i goes to an android guy with a box. any ideas guys? I really dont want to go to sprint and have them give me the run around . I need some help!

I've seen the Android guy with the box but even after a tar install it loads that for a minute or less like I said above does a few more things then reboots. When you flashed the ICS tar did you have ANYTHING but auto reboot selected at all?

after unplugging the phone from usb with that screen this is what reads on that screen.
E:failed to mount /data (unknown error 0)
update logfile does not exist
then it did a data wipe and something else.
it rebooted and after the boot screen it went kernel panic upload mode.
any ideas now?

ok that's odd. I've honestly never seen it do that with mine but I have seen the Android guy a few times (mostly with the ICS builds) Maybe someone with a bit more experience could chime in on the matter and maybe have a few ideas as to what you could do. Someone like sfhub or one of the devs maybe.
Edit
If I had to take a guess however it almost sounds like something is corrupt however. Maybe I'm wrong like I said just taking a guess on it.

im using odin 1.85 never had any problems with it before. When i use the one click root it gets stuck at data. With regular odin it flashes all the way and reboots. Im downloading yet another tar just to test my luck with it.

If you want (it will take some time to upload however) I can rar up my EG30 tar/pit file that I've had forever pretty much and put it on mediafire for you and see if that might work out better?

go for it im willing to try anything and id appreciate it alot if it saves me the hassle of dealing with the idiots at sprint. If it doesnt work ill just take it to them say it was a bad ota update and order a new one. I went in today and I told the guy I rooted it just because Im an idiot, He said it was good because it still had the samsung official binary, not saying anything about my custom binary counter which is somewhere above 30

The files are being uploaded now. Once all 3 are done I'll pm you the mediafire links to download them. The rar has a recovery record so if something happens (by chance) you should be able to recovery it (incase of a bad download)
Here is the thing this is a STOCK EG30 no root nothing. I use sfhubs auto root package to regain root on the device when I use this (which is often lol) I hope this does work however.
I'll pm you in a few once it's all done uploading.
edit.
Pit goes in the PIT option for Odin. Put the TAR in PDA.

I wouldn't mind having those files too if you could pm me.If not it's all good.

Do you mind relaying how Auto Root effed your phone up? All I read was ODIN didn't complete the flash (and the screen you saw is the expected behavior if that happens)

It doesn't really "change by itself". What is really happening is the CWM Touch you flashed is a fake flash and isn't persistent. It works immediately after the fake flash, but since it wasn't actually flashed, at next reboot, it will go back to original. You need to install a CWM Touch that is actually packed into a kernel, then it will be persistent.
Stuck in Downloading Mode!!
Hey dodgeram02, aside from flashing that EG30 kernel in ODIN, what else did you do? I flashed EG30 in ODIN with a PASS but the phone keeps bootlooping. What do I do? Any and all suggestions welcome

I also tried using Odin to update to the fb27 modem leak and Odin got stuck at the end of the process. I was able to restore my phone by flashing a kernel through Odin then manually flashing a new rom and modem.. but now that I try to update profile and prl I get error messages

Need to go back to stock(no odin)

Ok Guys i need a way to go back to stock without odin or heimdal my usb port is out of the equation. Only way to get files onto phone is through my sisters EVO. This needs to be no root no custom rom. I have to take my phone in to sprint cause 1.)the usb port 2.) My touchscreen is useless it doesn't work .
Thanks

MTD? Then you are screwed. You can't get back to stock without Odin or Heimdall. You need to repartition. BUT there is an MTD version of the FB15 leak which should look enough like stock to get you through:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1522816
That is the best you can do. You should also do the 2 flashable modems to get you to EL30 and delete Superuser before you bring it in.

It depends on how interested the tech is in making sure it is not a software problem. There are a few horror stories about accounts getting flagged but most of the time the techs don't care. Just smile a lot...lol.

This thread scares the hell out of me. A bad USB port on your epic is a fatal blow to your potential sprint insurance coverage. I cant think of anything worse, especially if your on MTD. Although, if your paying for insurance, i dont think it should really matter what firmware/rom you have on your device.
To the OP, you should be fine. As long as you can make it look at stock as possible, the average sprint employee is not smart enough to get into specifics. They are usually pretty cool about it. As a matter of fact, the tech at my local sprint store put gingerbread on my phone a week before it was released using odin (this was before I knew anything about flashing or rooting), most of the tech's do exactly what we do, so dont sweat it too much.

The one I posted a few posts back (post 16) by Bbelos is the closest to complete stock for MTD. Just delete superuser when done. Then you are only left with CWM recovery as evidence.

You have to let it load, don't be in such a hurry.. first boot always takes time to reinstall all bloatware and such.. give it about 30 mins if you have not had progress then you might have to clear all your cache, dalvik cache, and data before this might work. Need urgent help !
Sorry to ask, but reading numerous forums has made me absolutely clueless as to what to do.
Long story short, My AT&T i927 is not rooted and i updated to official ICS via kies air and have been having multiple bugs, like the famous keyboard backlight issue (for which ive read the fix but was unable to implement it) and also, the pinch zoom gestures being of almost no use cuz they are THAT slow in response and the hd games on it have become extra laggy, the camera quality has become terrible.
I want to go back to gingerbread but dont know how so PLEASE, i request you to take few minutes out of your precious time and help me with one single post containing the step by step method and links to whatever it is that i need to download. I seriously appreciate this and would make sure this post is popular enough to not to be repeated again.
Eagerly awaiting your reply.
THANKS.

2 options.
1. Use a nandroid backup if you made 1 before upgrading.
2. Go to Sammy firmware "http://www.sammobile.com/firmware"and download the ROM you would like to install with Gingerbread and flash via ODIN. You will have to register with them and using Odin is straight forward see on this forum how to use it.
Much appreciated.
Thank you so much kind sir ! One last ridiculous question, in order to opt for your above mentioned option 2....would it require me to root my phone ?
Nope just have to have it recognized when in download mode. Boot into download mode and star Odin then plug cable to computer and see if it sees you're phone. If not you may wish to install kies. This is the app from Samsung and it installs all necessary drivers for you computer to recognize you're phone. Via Odin or kies.

Cant factory reset, change ROM, or ODIN takes no effect

Hi there, i am currently on the CM10.1.2 build. Phone works, but started getting weird problems on the ROM lately so i decided to try to clean flash the rom again through clockword recovery v5. After doing the usual factory reset, wipe cache, re flashing, etc. After restarting the phone, nothing i did seemed to take effect. So I tried the same thing with a a differnt ROM, noticed that doing the factory reset only lasted like 3 seconds, when usually it takes about 10-20 seconds. So at this point, i tried to ODIN back to stock 4.1. Phone passed through but took zero effect.. I have no idea what to do at this point,
other weird symptoms that my phone had were; automatically turning on when USB plugged in.
Has anyone experienced this, could it be my clockword recovery is corrupted, but even so, ODIN should be able to work..

First try using PDA to flash in Odin. PDA is the only thing I use in Odin for the Hercules.
ill try that now,
also, after a RR(random reboot) earlier today, a message popped up sayig; system error; you need to re partition or partition your phone, and some other error. There is a re-partition option in Odin, but i have no idea what it does and dont want to accidently brick my phone.
Any thoughts on that

Any thoughts on that

Never had that error, but I have read that checking re-partition can brick(hard brick?) your phone. So I would not mess with that option until you do some research about it first.
so i tried flashing the CWM6 through PDA, no luck, then tried flashing it through CWM5, no good either.
and i might have to look into the re partition thing, it might be a potential solution. if anyone else has any knowledge or similar problems, please help me out, running out of ideas
edit: is there a way to go back to stock via kies, or is that only for non-rooted phones

Never check that option, it will seriously damage ur phone if it even boots after, ur best bet is to go with twrp, it a better recovery and has all the newest flashing scripts, try using Odin and PDA to flash the tar file from the link above, I've never seen a phone tell me to repartition it before that's strange bit I wouldn't suggest it, twrp by far has never failed me yet as cwm is rarely updated so sometimes u get errors with new roms

thanks for the input, gonna try twrp now
well, nothing seems to be working, i think ill just use the phone as it is until i find a fix, or until it dies on me. already fixed this phone once (power button), maybe its a sign for me to get a new phone

So even when u used odin and twrp it still didnt change anything? Thats very strange, its like ur system is read only, have u tried fixing permissions, idk dont think itll make much difference but if ur device isnt responding to odin im just taking a stab in the dark, odin says passed but it doeant take effect?

Odin doesn't change a thing, even after the green light PASS. Maybe I should try downloading a newer version of ODIN(im on v1.85). But ive
Used this version in the past a couple times with no problems.

I've always used 1.85 ,don't think I've even used another version as its always worked for me, have u tried loading the tar file into PDA slot, not boot loader, I never touch boot loader, click PDA and try to odin the file from there, and move to twrp, its better, if that doesn't work I'm lost, but I'll help as much as I can, how about flashing a ROM, does that work or does that not take too? This is interesting, it sucks for u I know but I've never had an issue like this before...

so ive been reading around and found out my phone has the faulty emmc bug. and i may have soft bricked my phone from all of the wiping data and cache when flashing new ROMs. apparently this guy http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2094564 has a fix for the i9100 version which i want to try but i have no idea how kernals work, or if i can use the kernal suggested in his thread. Can anyone enlighten me if it is safe to flash a kernal meant for i9100

Really?? I did hear they were supposed to find a fix for it but they never did.. does it matter that the phone is rooted? Because I have no way of uprooting at this point.
Def a hardware problem though so no reciept or anything should be nessesary I'd think?

[Q] Please Help with softbrick

I have T-Mobiles Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919). I upgraded from 4.2.2 to 4.3 yesterday, rooted, and was removing bloatware when something I deleted screwed up my gallery so I decided to re-do everything (go back to stock) and start all over. Of course that was a fail and now my screen says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." (didn't work)(cannot get into download mode or recovery) tried restoring through Odin (did this with an Galaxy s2 before and it fixed the problem) But did not work either!!! At the top of the screen it says:
Odin mode
Product name: sgh-m919
Current Binary: custom
System Status: custom
Knox Kernel Lock: 0x0
Knox Warrany Void: 0x1
CSB-Config-LSB: 0x30
Write Protection: Enabled
eMMC BURST MODE enabled
START (224, 1440)
SW REV. CHECK FAIL : fused : 4 , Binary : 1
I had originally thought that Knox was just a app, but know better now. I am downloading the 4.3 firmware (6 more hours to download) to flash through Odin, but expect the same results. Any ideas on how to fix this issue or do I own a new paper-weight??? I have read through many forums and cannot find a solution.....
Odin flash the 4.3 stock tar and root with Saferoot Verizon method or CF-Autoroot (recommended). If you want autobloatware cleaner, search for TrulyClean. Good luck

I downloaded the 4.3 stock tar and tried to flash, but didn't work. I think there was something wrong with the file so I am going to try to download it from another source and try again.... wish me luck!!! I like to use CF-Autoroot.... I will look for truly clean and try it, because the one I've been using doesn't work on 4.3

Yeah, with large downloads like that sometimes they mess up. You can run a MD5 hash/checksum to make sure the file you downloaded didnt mess up. But download it again from somewhere and give it a shot. No reason why you won't be able to Odin

Mine says that (kernel is not seandroid enforcing. set warranty bit kernel) when it is booting up, but it hasn't effected it negatively. To be honest I don't even know what that means yet.... As long as the phone turns on and works.... lol
I used CF-Auto-root and it worked flawlessly...

Once you are back to stock 4.3 and not rooted all you need to do to root
the phone is to download and Odin flash cf-autoroot.
Here is the direct download link for cf-autoroot in case you want to root your phone:
http://download.chainfire.eu/328/CF...jfltetmo-jfltetmo-sghm919.zip?retrieve_file=1
Unzip cf-autoroot into an empty folder on your computer's desktop, use
Odin which is also included in the zipfile to flash cf-autoroot in pda slot.
Once you are rooted you will need to flash a custom recovery like cwm or twrp.
Good luck!
