SE Liveview is it any good? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm thinking of getting a SE Liveview. I want to know if it's any good as they're selling for about £20 on Play.com and to be fair it looks like a really cool accessory.
Sent from my R800i using xda premium

its just 13 quid by now. but my personal experience i am telling you not to buy. i have liveview for like 3.4 months but never used it cause you need to sacrifice the battery of your phone which is already a problem.

I love it but I would by the new version Sony made much more attractive works better called live watch or some thing
Sent from my R800a using XDA App

I personally think it doesn't affect battery life too much. It does lose connection sometimes, and that can be a pain. I think there is an app to get rid of that problem though. And the new watch is called SmartWatch I think.

It's a pity I don't have the £75 for the Sony Live watch. Tar for the opinions guys.
Sent from my R800i using xda premium

Got mine same day as my play. Doesn't affect battery that much afaik. Connection issues have been a problem. I just shelled out a buck for liveview manager in the store. Supposed to fix connection issues. Haven't fully tested it yet but I hope it works, I love mine. Especially great because I can't always feel vibration and I can when it's on my wrist.

Btw the live view manager works great. Definitelyworth a buck
Sent from my R800i using XDA

Just gotta wait for Play.com to dispatch mine now.

No. It refuses to stay connected.

Sadly yes - I bought one for 20€ at amazon a month ago. Since some people even mentioned good things about the device.
But continuous disconnects made it unuseable - since it refuses to do anything with broken connection it was not more then a little weight,...
Beside the range was really short - wich also broke the connection once the phone was 3m away - and the reconnect when in range again ALWAYS failed.
Ofc i tried to get the latest FW update (last from 01.2011),... even flashed different ROMs to be sure it not the Phone....
I sent it back.
Beside this I noticed - it really not more then a gimmic --- the useability is quite low.

I haven't used the new 'smart' watch/liveview but i still have my MBW-300 Bluetooth watch, and it was a great investment. Not as many features as the Liveview by far, but still looks much better and for basic notifications/music control its awesome!

does anyone know if this can be used with other media players like beyondpod or astro podcast player?
I know it works for the stock music player....but can it take control of other aforementioned apps!

Personally waiting for this one: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/597507018/pebble-e-paper-watch-for-iphone-and-android

I think it's a terrible idea. As I've stated numerous times: Why compromise the specs to fit on your wrist when you have a full-spec device in your pocket already? Make it remotely control the other device and FULLY integrate the functions!
All that does is make me have two Android "smart" devices I have to charge every night (actually, three because I also carry a tablet).

Allways dissconected
Sent from my R800i using xda premium

It disconnects most of the time and I have had some hard time taking the watch back cover off. I even broke one of my fingernails trying to take the damn thing off !
So now it's time for me to get a Sony Smartwach

so its just a notification item? you still have to pull out the phone to respond or access all data right? a bluetooth earpiece/headset can tell me whos calling, switch through music, etc...
i really dont see the point. my phone is always either in my pocket or on my workdesk in plain view for me to easily see. Im not constantly checking personal email, sms, twitter/fb updates while at work or when im out playing or partying regardless.
Do you think it will be compatible with the EVO?
EDIT
They are and I am getting one in a heartbeat, I wonder what the battery is like on it.
EDIT 2
It says its compatible with the Galaxy S series and the HTC Desire, it also says the phone has to have bluetooth 2.1 do we are just fine!
And to the OP THANK YOU for showing me this.
EDIT 3
Well Ive been doing some digging forum and I found this nice spec
- Typical consumer battery usage time: 4 days
and its 69 EUROS or 96 bucks, nice little conversion there I dont mind paying that for one of these, it is also looking at a november release date too.
Being a very active college student, i will be getting one of these, as my evo has replaced my ipod, this should make the music player work better when im going between classes so im prolly gonna grab one

i think his point was why not make it a media player? a remote control for your phone is as useless as a remote control for your car stereo.
of course theres the likes of the bt3030 that can do that already.... hmmm
why get a phone with a huge screen if you're not going to use it =/
It's up for preorder at a few places. Anyone preorder it yet? I found a German outlet selling it the cheapest, but they don't ship to the US. Looks like it goes for $80 at Play.com but it also doesn't look like they ship to the US. Expansys does have it for $99...so I may just have to go with that.
I kinda want one O_O
Bought it, and am using it, and it is a bit buggy with the evo. The music player cannot be controlled from my experience, and the software freezes the phone sometimes. It shows "paired not connected" in bluetooth settings, yet still seems to work, but sometimes loses connection. I am looking for a Desire HD ROM port or a vanilla android build to see if I can get this thing working, but I do not want to lose 4g.

Stil restart problems I give up

As from today I have my arc for sale, its the first time since Ive been around here I only had a phone for less than 3 months...
No matter how many times I flashed my arc it keeps restarting every now and than which means I am not available till I notice it. As I really use my phone for business purposes as well I can't afford missing calls from customers.
I really love the design, brought my phone back twice for repair, and still having this annoying problem.
I want to thank everyone for their help and nice talks and maybe we meet each other in another section once.
For now I don't know which phone to choose, so I will go shopping this weekend.
Cheers for now,
Arnold

To bad the Arc didn't work out for you, i can imagine your frustration.
We have 2 arc's around the house, and indeed, sometimes both rebooted for no reason at all (like just lying on my desk), but since i put the new firmware on them it realy doesn't happen anymore.
The only (rarely) reboots that stay are the ones when stressing the CPU.
Both devices are on firmware 3.0.1.A.0.145, rooted but bootloader still locked.
Hope you find a device that suits your needs better, but i beg to differ you'll find one with a more sexier design

My Arc is annoying my quite a lot in the last time because it reality permanently loses the WLAN connection. The connection is totally lost or the Arc shows a connection but giving the "... no network... " error
I've done all troubleshooting that I could find but nothing helps. May sound stupid but it seems that the connection is lost more often the longer the Arc is running with one FW version.

Have you honestly got nothing better to do with your life than make useless posts like that?
@Pollpixx: have you not considered getting the handset repaired or replaced under warranty?
Yeah I agree with Step666 .. I think instead of repairing see if you get a replacement. Xperia Arc is worth fighting for
Like i said, it was out for repair twice and will not be replaced for free...well I also have my LG optimus 2x which works fine and yesterday I bought an iphone 4 because I have an ipad2 for my birthday and I love the way the graphics and gameplay are on those devices. Real Racing 2 HD on Ipad2 for example is incredible real... but I agree, it is hardly customazible, so i use it for those games and bussiness only...
My Arc is for sale now, just had a bad monday morning item maybe, but I can't afford having my phone turned off daily, that will cost me turnover for my work in the end.
Enjoy your Arc's, I don't have a "burn the device" feeling like some other people, it was just a faulty product I get my hands on and now I don't trust it anymore.
Nevertheless, thanks very much for the advice!
Cheers,
Arnold
That's a pity Pollpixx. I'm sure the other forums would love to have you.
But how about turning it in for repairs and just keep it as a spare phone? I feel it'd be a shame to just sell it.

Why not?
You're in the EU, you must be covered by some sort of consumer protection laws?
My concern if I were in your situation is that I wouldn't feel comfortable selling a faulty item.
Not that I'm suggesting you'll dupe whoever buys it or anything like that, it'd just bother me is all.
As for the iPhone4, can't blame you for getting one - they're nice handsets. Not my cup of tea personally due to how locked-down they are but really nice pieces of kit nonetheless.
The iPad however - boo!

yes I think they removed the video... It was on SEitalian chanell and there was some livesound upgrade too but I can't find them anymore...
As far as I understand this is only a remote for your phone apps ,
such as
Messaging
Social network viewing
Answer /reject calls
Music controls
Camera controls
You can't
Make calls
Sent msg
Post on social networks
Store anything on it
Or use without a phone
That's why I think its too dear ,at 60 quid it would be worth a punt
Or
If it had its own storage 8-16gb for music etc so it could be a stand alone watch/mp3 player for running etc maybe a pedometer ,GPS track etc then I'd pay 150 to 200 no prob
But for me its got to little features for that money ,its a gimmick which would most like remain in my draw after 2 weeks
Its also not pretty enough to be anything but casual wear so it won't replace my current watch.
PS .this is only my opinions and thoughts on this .

Sony Smartwatch

Well I was thinking about getting this Sony Smartwatch for use with the Galaxy Note (International version).
Any tips/suggestions to if it is good or not?
Also does the watch itself have a speaker? (either for the hour beeps or just playing music.)
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
depends on what you plan to do with it. the sony smartwatch MN2 isnt too bad. it has a lot of features i'd probably use. the only thing i didnt like about it is that it cant do much of anything unless it is bluetooth sync'd to a phone. heck, the clock function wont even work unless its sync'd to a phone, which seems kinda pathetic to me for a device that has 'watch' in its name. just for that reason alone, i'd probably choose a pebble or motoactv.
The watch actualy keeps time even if/after bluetooth disconnected. It just needs an initial sync to give it the right time in the first place.
Use search or look further down this exact forum to see a longer thread about this watch.

I got a set but I've only played with them. It's a neat novelty but at the cost not really practical. If they were cents each rather than dollars I might use them more.
Just register your phone on Samsung.com and you'll get a 50% off coupon...buy your TecTiles with that. I have mine by the door to toggle WiFi, in the bathroom to launch Play Music, and by the toilet to launch YouTube.
I use mine a lot, but my only gripe is that the phone has to be on and unlocked in order for it to work...but its better than nothing I guess.
I have thought about putting one in the living room for guests to use to connect to WiFi without asking for the password.

woah buddy, lighten up, lol. of course that was "an opinion", and mine obviously. sorry that I think having an NFC tag setup to launch YT when I'm taking dump is ridiculous. if you don't want conversations that are inherently going to have opinions, and possibly opinions that are not yours, don't post in a public forum, maybe?

no... just want to it things I would expect a phone to do. I'm not even sure how that statement is a "witty comeback", as it's contextually nonsense.
seriously, relax.
Not ubiquitous because people like you keep saying it isn't. Buy it, try it out...you may find something interesting that will intrigue another to do the same. My local mall uses NFC to give out free songs or magazine articles. What's a couple of bucks gonna hurt? You already bought a $300+ phone...might as well use its features.
You don't have to use the Samsung TecTiles...you can buy any of them, and download an NFC programmable app.

believe me, I wish I could think of uses for them that would do something I thought was functional, because gawdamn, the idea is cool. and I do love anything new tech-wise. i'm always an early adopter.
(and I bought the phone outright. $700 bucks w/ tax. worth every damn penny.)
so far, the only implementation I am seeing make NFC worthwhile is sBeam/filesharing, and google wallet (if it worked right now).
I will be keeping a watch on the tech, and I tend to make frivolous purchases (like the AllShare TV dongle), and perhaps I'll keep an eye on you, see if you come up with anything that sparks some ideas.
Anything useful for my personal routine (turning off ringer at work etc.) I have set up in tasker. For little stuff like opening you tube while on toilet, (lol) it just doesnt seem more convienent to tap phone to a tag than to click the app on my homescreen. Tasker really does all of the automation for me for work, my car etc.

Jelly Bomb has nfc with the screen off built in. I tried pulling the Nfc.apk from the 10.20 build and putting it on my own deodexed LJC rom but it didn't allow nfc with the screen off.
One thing that I thought would be useful is if I could set it up as a proximity sensor. Ex: when I put the phone in my car dock it turns on blue tooth and when I take it out it turns it off without having to touch another tag?

yes, just set it up to Toggle the bluetooth - that way if it's on it will turn off and visa versa.
I have similar setups and it works like a charm.
and the tiles will work with Every phone that has NFC, so even when you get a future phone, the tiles will continue to work. I think they are the bees knees.
they become more useful once you mod the phone to work with nfc screen off (someone posted a mod but it only works from lockscreen not screen off hopefully that will be fixed soon)
I have one each on my washer and dryer. they set a "timer" that goes off and tells me when the washer and dryer are done (30 minutes for washer 70minutes for dryer)
I have one on my car to auto set my car locator position one the dev for car locator gets that working right.
I also plan to use them for geo caching. I hope geocaching.com integrates NFC functionality into their service soon is VERY ideal for that.
I also plan to use them on "bins" in storage. I store what is in the bin in the tag. tap and now I know whats inside (working on that soon)
you can use QR codes but they are a pain (have to load an app) and then wait for camera to focus AND they don't like low light. NFC don't care tap done.
also plan to put on on my Radio Transmitter for my competition rocket gliders. tap and 15minute countdown timer starts.
