[Q] Problem with fastboot drivers on windows 7 - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The title says it all, well most of it. heres the problem:
I want to unlock the bootloader on my Xperia Play, I've tried many different ways to actually get fastboot to detect my phone I installed various drivers for S1 Semcboot but no luck, I also tried installing seus, uninstalling the drivers and letting seus re-install the s1 semcboot drivers but still no luck Ive been at it for a whole day... How can I get fastboot on windows 7 to detect my xperia play which is 100% bootloader unlockable...?
NOTE: The blue power led turns on when I hold search and connect the phone, the computer detects the phone but fastboot doesn't.
I have also tried lollylosts thread for drivers and stuff...

Any help would be appreciated please...

The usb driver file is here
its direct link, should work.

Thankyou but how am I supposed to use that driver?, windows 7 doesnt let me install drivers it only lets me update drivers when i try to update it doesnt install ...

Haven't really used Windows for a while but I think you can uninstall then reinstall drivers through device manager

I know you can, I've tried selecting many drivers by browsing and locating the folders but it just wont install...

Which fastboot command are you using?

Maybe the files linked in this thread will help you, worth a shot.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think you manually point to the drivers when your computer says that it doesn't recognise the device. Can't really remember how I installed them lol.

maybe you are using an outdated version of fastboot.exe? Have you tried pressing back key on boot or the volume down key? Have you seen your LED indicator turn or blink blue? Have you used tools or apps that can boot you into fastboot mode? are you rooted already? Have you tried following the Sony Ericsson guide on unlocking bootloader? If you followed this correctly especially downloading the right JAVA and latest Android SDK which includes the ADB drivers, then there will be no problems. Rooting and unlocking bootloader is the easiest part in my opinion when modding your Xplay. The hardest part for me was recovering from an almost bricked phone

check device manager in control panel and check if ADB driver is showing if not, try reinstalling those java and adroid sdk packages again in C:\
btw latest version puts fastboot.exe in android-platform tools folder

If you are still having trouble installing the fastboot drivers and you are using Windows 7 64bit, try the following link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1554805
I had the same problem, but I could fix it by simply adding some lines into the .inf-file.

yesterday i had the same problem hen i tried to boot doomkernel v11. I use this drivers:
http://www.mediafire.com/?1jqvtofgc13figr
and it works (for me)

Thankyou everyone for your help, I will give what you all said a go and will report back here if it worked or not
oh btw @janitory Im using x32 (x86)
EDIT: also I get this error when Im installing the SDK on C:/ "Stopping ADB server failed (code -1)." does that make a difference?

[Q] Galaxy Nexus Bootloader Unlock [HELP]

Hi all, Purchased my Galaxy Nexus today - First thing on the list; Unlock and Root.
I have downloaded all of the necessary files but cmd is stuck on < waiting for device >
My phone is in fastboot mode but i cannot get this command to work to unlock the bootloader - I have installed the Samsung drivers... Is there anything I am missing here?
Any help or suggestions welcome, Thanks!
Try with a different USB cable if you can.
I had the same issue (device not being found) using the cable that came with it, so I swapped it for the one that came with my Desire and it worked fine.
Worth a shot.
Cheers! I'll give it a try!
Just tried my original Nexus One USB cable but no luck - I'm thinking it could be something to do with the drivers?

If you run "fastboot devices" and there's nothing found, then you need to install the fastboot drivers (these are not the same as the USB debug drivers from the zip).
I've found the easiest way to get the drivers is to install pdanet - as part of the installation process you install all needed drivers. You can then uninstall pdanet (or in my case, have the installer crash), leaving just the fastboot driver for you to carry on your rooting

mybe, you can try fastboot devices and check if the device is found.
Just along the lines of using fastboot oem unlock... is the Galaxy the same as the Nexus S in that you can relock the bootloader again?

Honestly, not willing to check this one after spending today setting up my device, and no custom recovery available yet.
But given it's a Nexus device, and noting the ease with which we can unlock, then I'd say it's a pretty surefire bet that relocking will be just as easy.
Thanks alot! It worked
I'm looking to just unlock the bootloader of my Galaxy Nexus which will hopefully arrive tomorrow morning. I currently have AndroidSDK and samsung drivers both installed on my pc as well as a file called fastboot.exe. my question is do I need both the Samsung Drivers as well as AndoidSDK installed for this?

okay thanks
I tried all day yesterday to unlock bootloader with no success. I installed the latest sasmsung usb drivers for mobile (released on 31/10/2011). This allowed the PC to recognise the phone installing the drivers properly. But then starting the phone in recovery mode (power+up+down bottons) I get the android 1 not recognised in device manager.
I then saw this thread and decided to install pdanet 3.02 client on the pc. I couldn't complete that step as pdanet cannot see the phone.
I gave up in the end. If you manage to do it successfully could you please tell me the step you did?
I am going to try tonight on my mac as apparently on mac you do not have this drivers issue. Will post with my results.

Forget my previous post.
Installing pdanet and saying no to install the usb drivers (as part of pdanet install) everything should be fine.
Done mine and working fine.
Thanks.

yes
fastboot oem lock will lock it
Hey I seem to be having some troubles as well,
windows 7 recognizes it as an ADB device and when I use - adb reboot bootloader
it takes me to the fastboot screen that it should.
but once I'm there it doesn't recognize any fastboot devices.
And yes I have reinstalled the SDK, Samsung drivers, and Android ADB driver
Would it matter that I had previously done a bunch of messing around with my ASUS transformer on this computer?
under device manager it says:
ASUS Android Devices - Android ADB Interface
I'm going to try it on another computer tomorrow but I'm curious if that should make a difference.
The driver failed to install on my phone...when I reboot into my bootloader it looks a bit different from in the video. Mine just has an android and it says start above it. The oem unlock command fails to do anything as well.
Why is nothing ever simple?
Does your phone need to be connected when you install the samsung drivers on it? Or does it install these drivers after booting into the bootloader?
When I install the samsung drivers on my computer with the phone connected, it says the following:
Android phone: No drivers found
Samsung Mobile USB Composite Device: Ready to use
Samsung Mobile MTP Device: Failed
Samsung Android ADB Interface: Ready to use
When I hold the volume buttons and power it on now, it just goes straight to the google logo...not even getting the android logo with the start option anymore. I think I might have accidentally uninstalled the ADB drivers in my device manager because I saw 2 copies and thought I installed it twice...

[Q] Problem with the Unlock Bootloader

Right, I hope I am not being a total noob with this but here goes.
I got my HTC One V today, I plan to unlock bootloader and root my device.
So, following the bootloader stages, blah blah blah (at HTCDev).
And then, I get this: (< waiting for device > )
(Attached image 1)
So, I done some research, and it seemed to narrow down to me not having the right drivers. So I've done some driver research and so on, and installed a few. I also installed HTC Sync.
And then I got to this, when the device is turned on and plugged in through USB:
(Attached image 2)
So, now I try to turn it off and enter the bootloader, follow the steps and so on, but I still get < waiting for device >. Also, if I got to device manager while in this mode I am presented with this:
(Attached image 3)
I have tried following some guides and steps to fix this but I'm getting nowhere.
Anyone think they could help me?
when using fastboot or adb make sure you have adb drivers from android sdk and htc drivers from htc sync and also close htc sync in your tray.
Sent from my HTC One V using Tapatalk 2
by the way, anybody can help me how to relock bootloader ?
-EDIT-

I am almost certain I have the ADB drivers and the HTC Drivers from HTC Sync. Although I am not so sure about the HTC Sync drivers. I downloaded and installed the program and then I exited it when I try and fastboot.
My device manager now says this when I go into the bootloader on my HTC One V.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
HI..check ckpv5's post...it is the link to the thread he created to unlock the boot loader...if you need right drivers install htc sync.....
Then put in bootloader and let it install..then wait for it in fastboot....after all drivers have been installed it will work.....
BUT BEFORE THAT YOU HAVE TO DELETE THAT UNKNOWN DEVICE AND RE-CONNECT YOUR DEVICE..

I have followed that thread about 5/6 times but still get waiting for device.
Installed and reinstalled HTC Sync about 4 times.
The drivers appear to be on my computer, yet I'm still getting waiting for device.

Yeah, its installed. Also, if I try and install this driver in fastboot mode on the bootloader it says the driver cannot be found. (attached image 2 & 3).

Try my files here: http://bit.ly/IwbRMu
It has Android SDK but the old version, you can skip that one if you want to.
It has Android USB driver and HTC usb driver. So on any unknown device, just point to the drivers folder and see whether it helps or not. After install, reboot your pc first.
Edit: It may be old version but it works great for my new Win7 PC at work that I receive today

Just to catch everyone up, following on from advice and images above I uninstalled the driver I had installed in this image (image 1).
I am now trying to reinstall a driver which will hopefully work and not give me a <waiting for device> message when trying to unlock the bootloader.
These files in Android Tools still don't seem to want to work, I am getting the following messages below: (images 2 and 3).
Also my hardware ID's are as follows: (image 4).

Image 2, seems like you don't point to driver folder as it read:
C:\Users\James\Downloads\Android Tools
It should read: C:\Users\James\Downloads\Android Tools\HTC Driver\Driver Files\XP_x86
I have finally got it to work, after ages of trying a number of different drivers I have found something which eventually returned a result. I now have my identifier token.

[Q] Computer fails trying to unlock bootloader of R800i

Hello,
I'm trying to unlock the bootloader of my R800i, and every time I plug it into my computer while holding the search button on the phone, the "Point to drivers" window doesn't pop up on my computer.
I've followed everything on Sony Mobile's site, my R800i says bootloader unlockable Yes in the service menu.
Baseband is -56 version
Build number is 4.0.2.A.0.42.
I've got the Android SDK, the modified winusb.inf file, and google USB Rev. 4.
My computer is using Windows 8 Consumer Preview if that means anything.
I've tried searching google and here on xda, but I can't seem to find a thread about the computer failing in the unlock BL process.
Is it operator error (probably), or is it something else?
Install flashtool from here.
Once it's installed, go to the Drivers folder (I think that's what it's called) and install the exe file in there. Then just select the drivers in the list for R800, ADB and fastboot.
It should install them automatically.
EDIT: I do remember seeing something about Windows 8 compatibility issues but I can't seem to find it now and I can't quite remember what wasn't compatible :/
Alrighty, thanks. Will do when I get the chance this afternoon
EDIT: I just installed flashtool, installed the drivers you specified, and it says that everything is fine. However, when I plug my phone into my computer red text comes up in flashtool saying "ERROR - Drivers need to be installed for connected device." and that I can find them in the drivers folder of flashtool.
Not sure what's going wrong here, so any help is really appreciated!
Ok, I think I have it figured out, but I'm only running on a hunch; do I have to be on version 2.3.3? My play is on the latest 2.3.4 release.
You shouldn't have any type of problem with 2.3.4.
If you entered "fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version" and you still got no response then you still have a driver problem.
I had the exact same problem!
Its because Windows 8 doesnt install unsigned drivers as its still in Beta.
I had to re-install Windows 7 on my Computer, which took forever, so my advice is use a different Computer to do it. Saves the hassle of Installing Windows 7

R800i Issues with USB Driver and Bootloader!

Hi Guys,
Any help would be great! i do have google talk if anyone is willing to help me out!
My R800i Is rooted and has a version of recovery but not sure which version, i am wanting to update my phone with a better kernel and rom since the current one i have installed is giving me issues ( not being able to receive incoming calls for example )
Another problem is i reformatted the phone since i was having issues with receiving calls but now when i connect my phone to ANY computer via the USB cable the computer trys to install MTP or MSC driver ( depends on which connection type i select ) the Installer fails and i cant even take any files off my phone.
Provided details below. i want to somehow get into the current bootloader and install the ROM thats on my SD card! i do have flashtool installed and Android tool SDK installed but still no success in phone wanting to talk to my laptop.
I am running windows 7 64 bit. i am starting to think the phone is belond repair since i cant get any software to work between the phone and computer.
does anyone know what buttons i need to push on the Xperia Play to enter into the boot loader, i have tried pressing the back button and search button on phone boot but nothing happens apart from the phone starts up normally.
would a factory reset delete the boot loader and other config-ed software off the phone is this why i cant enter the boot loader or am i not pressing the right buttons on boot.
Any help would be really appreciated!

If you want to change the kernel you must unlock your bootloader. If your Xperia Play is a SIM free one, you can do it for free in this link: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com
For SIM locked devices I think you must find another ways to do it. There are some online sites that unlock bootloader to SIM locked devices for a fee.
Once you have unlocked your bootloader, turn off the phone, hold on the search button, plug the USB cable in the computer, release the search button (power button LED will be blue) and install this driver: http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/Google-USB-Driver-Revision4-Download-139077.html
Now you are ready to flash any kernel you want with Flashtool or any other app.
Thanks for the information, i have already done this, i payed £25 for a guy on this forum to unlock my phone to any network. i'll give this a try and get back to you, problem is the phone doesn't like to talk to my laptop via USB cable keeps on failing to install the drivers..

Check your device manager. The fastest way to open it is running this command: devmgmt.msc
There must be some kind of Android device while your phone is connected in fastboot mode. If you see it, update its driver with the Google USB driver v4 pointing at the folder path with the uncompressed files.

I'm not using gtalk atm. Sorry.
Be sure the driver you downloaded is named usb_driver_rev4.zip: http://drivers.softpedia.com/dyn-postdownload.php?p=139077&t=4&i=1
If Windows doesn't detects any driver in that uncompressed folder, you can choose to select the device from a list, point to that folder and force to install the driver. It's named something like Android ADB Interface.

Thanks for the download link, i going to try this in a bit and get back to you! thanks for the support guys! :good:
Just tried, i put my phone into Media Transfer Mode.. my computer tried to install the MTP usb device and i directed the installation to the driver you linked..
Update Driver Software says: the best driver software for your device is already installed MTP USB DEVICE, there is a small yellow triangle on the icon and in MTP USB Device Properties it says: This device cannot start. (Code 10)
i need someone to Teamviewer with me, for the record i don't have the Sony Ericsson software installed on my Computer because that still wont install the drivers for my phone, i also know its not needed for installing new kernel and roms.
i tried connecting this phone to a bunch of pcs including my friends and it still fails to install any drivers!!! i think i am just going to bin this phone! i have had enough (
You must install that driver when you plug the phone in fastboot mode. It shouldn't work in any other case. In other words, when you plug your Xperia Play being powered on and Android is running it needs one driver, and when you boot it in fastboot mode you need other driver.
Please, install the driver following the steps previously posted with your phone in fastboot mode (blue LED).
Hello, i put my phone into fastboot mode, my device manager shows 1 device not installed S1Boot Fastboot, i right click go to properties and click update driver...
then i browse my computer for driver software i point the location to usb_driver_rev4\usb_driver and it says: Windows was unable to install your s1Boot fastboot!
Ok, let's see...
Try to update the driver using the "choose from a list" option to force the installation, point to the driver folder and select "Android ADB Interface" from the list. If Windows shows a warning message don't worry about it and go ahead.
i tryed this and its not wanting to work (
Sorry to hear that because I don't have any more ideas for your problem.
Maybe you may spend some minutes searching in the forum to find some detail that can help you.
i need someone with teamviewer to help me go though the setup process again, if anyone is willing to get my phone working i will happy pay them some money!
Thanks Jcarbox for all your support!
Regards
Paul
I just check the Windows device manager with my phone plugged in bootloader mode and it appears as Android Bootloader Interface, so this is the device you must choose from the list when you install the driver.
Hope this helps you.

I don't know how to fix it permanently. but i do this to make it work for some time.First, download flashtool and install it.Open your device manager and select view->show hidden drivers. Then, delete all your drivers related to xperia play. like the adb interface, semc flash ,etc. All of them in all categories. then reboot your computer into safe mode with administrator and connect your device with flashtool running in your windows in safe mode. then the flashtool will indicate that you don't have the drivers. then, open the drivers folder in flashtool and use the setup to install arc-play-...,flashmode drivers and fastboot mode drivers.then after the installation is over windows will ask you to reboot.now reboot with your mobile connected. after boot windows will automatically install the drivers. then unplug your phone and turn off it and connect in flash/fastboot mode.it will automatically install drivers.wait for windows to say drivers installed successfully or installation failed. don't unplug it in the middle of the process then you will have to start from first.sometimes it will not work in the first time ,then reboot into safe mode and try again installing the drivers and rebooting into safe mode itself and connecting your device.at one point of time flashtool will say your device is connected in flas/fastboot mode.then continue with flashing
Gladwin.
Thanks for the support guys i managed to solve the issue!

[Q] Fastboot driver problem

Hi, I have a huge problem and I don't know what to do anymore. I try to access fastboot mode on my Xperia Play, so I can flash ICS kernel, I did usual stuff, followed the guides, watches few videos on youtube, now I am stuck on part where I have to install drivers manually.
So basicly I go to device manager, select S1boot, update, select driver... And after I do that, every single time it says that Windows could not find driver software for your device.
I tried downloading many different drivers, I tried many combinations in pointing them like:
C:\Users\T-N-Z\Desktop\Fastboot\fastboot\Drivers\x64
or just
C:\Users\T-N-Z\Desktop\Fastboot\fastboot\Drivers\
etc..
I am on Windows 8 RTM Pro. I had similar issue in Windows 7, but it fixed itself randomly :/
I also installed Android SDK and Android USB drivers from it..
I tried installing fastboot driver with flashtool, but I believe it installs wrong driver, S1boot gets renamed to SEMCFLASH or something called like that, and after that my Xperia Play won't stay in fastboot mode, so I can't do anything.
Please help me out, what am I doing wrong? Thank you.

Ok, I have disabled driver thingie on Windows 8 and installed your package files. Now drivers says that I have Android ADB interface, but... When I boot into fastboot mode, after some time it just turns offs and phone starts charging process.
Maybe it needs to be fully charged or something before I can do anything or what?
It just started working for no reason again... Don't know what I've done differently this time but it works now. Thanks for help.
