Where do you place your car mount? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have a 2011 vw jetta sportwagen tdi, and I don't know where to mount my phone in there. I've seen videos of people driving with the phone mounted so they can record the drive, and I want to do that too, but with the official mount it's difficult for me to find a good place for it. I think the way it's mounted in the picture below is illegal, so I probably won't do that. But I posted the pictures so you might be able to suggest where to put it. I'm trying not to use the sticky pad thing, but if it comes to that then so be it. If you could suggest a different mount that might work better for my car that would be awesome.
vzw galaxy nexus.
Also, I'd like a mount that might work with an extended battery... Not those huge ones though. Thanks!

I have a 2010 VW Jetta and am looking to find a good spot also. I don't want a cup holder. ProClip in expensive. Windshield won't work either.

Any good car mounts yet?

Has anybody tried mounting their tab in their car? I'd like to mount mine on the center console and use it for navigation and music, but I haven't found any mounting solutions for my ZJ that I like. I'm hoping maybe the Broddit Proclip for the 10.1 isn't too far away.
I've seen the ones that bolt to the floor, but I don't think I'm really interested in something like that. Plus, they are expensive.
Anyway, those of you that have done this - let us know what you worked out, and give us a few pictures if you'd be so kind. I'm keen to get my tab mounted in my Jeep as well!
I use this one...
A word of caution is that, compared to a phone or a GPS, the Tab is relatively heavy. It tends to vibrate some at the end of the clip. But if you just stick the mount into a cup holder in the center console of your car you should be fine.
Anybody seen anything new? Not many options thus far
I've been keeping my eye out... but still haven't seen much either.
The 10.1 is a fairly large device to mount to a dash with something like a ProClip. I used a proclip center vent mount for my Garmin and it was great, but I could not imagine the GT sitting there like that.
As awesome and cool as it would be to have the GT mounted nicely on the dash it would block too many things on the dash. The type of vehicle you have will also be a huge factor, maybe you have one of those larger popup drawers that some cars have, maybe the GT can somehow be mounted in that spot.
I'm working on making a custom mount for my car, that will drop the tab over my radio and will look stock.
I modeled the radio and dash in Solidworks and am fabricating the custom mounts later today. I'll post pictures of the process and make a thread later this week.
If you can get me the specs of the radio, I may be able to make you a mount as well.
Since there are no custom car mounts for the 10.1 Tab yet, I bought this car mount from Ebay to use for a 2000+ mile road trip I'm taking next week:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310333108738&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_2583wt_1037
While it is off course a plastic fantastic, non-custom car mount, I just tried it out in my Civic and found it to be quite decent actually. Very simple design and not too bulky at all, and seems fairly sturdy (of course, I wouldn't be surprised if it falls off the window at some point). I'll take some pictures later of it in action and post them in this thread.
For power, I used this dual USB car charger (one 2.1A and one 1A USB jacks to charge both my 10.1 Tab and my Evo 4G at the same time):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120693523948&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
It won't charge the 10.1 Tab without this adapter though:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190522553195&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_3085wt_1037
All together, I have a fairly nice setup for my 10.1 Tab and Evo 4G (with wireless hotspot to my Tab) that will hopefully work well during my trip next week.

I'd like something like this. I don't want to mount my tab in the windshield or on the dash, it's way too big for that imho. But there is PLENTY of room on the center console of my Jeep to hold the tab. It has a 1.5 DIN mount there, so I've been wondering if I could figure something out with that extra half DIN that I had available.
As far as Broddit Proclips go, then already have mounts for the iPad and Xoom, so I don't think it would be much of an issue for the Galaxy Tab 101.1.
Any advice for a good mount for a convertible?
When i drove a Hummer, I would just put my netbook up on the dash and it never moved. Now that I've gone to retro thunderbird, I'm worried that due to the wind factor, it will fly out when I'm on the freeway. The cup holders are a bit back..... so something with a long stem on it might be ideal.
This is what the interiors look like.

I only tried it with glass since it didn't come with a plastic sticker circle, but I'm not sure it would be able to support the 10.1's weight from the dash.
anyone tried this mount yet? add the "HTTP.WWW"

If you have a folio type case you can use my "ultimate $2 car mounting solution" All you need is a 6' bungee cord, available at any Walmart/Target/hardware store for $2 or less. Guide the hooks from each end of the cord into vents on your dash, fold the flap of the case backwords and slide it between the cord and the dash. Presto! Not the prettiest set up, but dirt-cheap and actually works very well.
That looks great exactly what i was looking for. Please post pics when completed, would love to have one made for my car.

I'm using a Ram Mount for a Motorola Xoom as shown here:
http://www.ram-mount.com/NewProducts/motorolaxoommount/tabid/3871/Default.aspx
Fits fine, though I needed to file out the side of the mount slightly to fit the 3.5mm headphone jack in. Nothing 5 minutes with a round file couldn't handle.
Ram have a variety of ways to mount this to your car - I'm using this one:
http://www.ram-mount.com/CatalogRes...45051049054045049045050051056085/Default.aspx
Because I need a nice solid setup for my 4x4.
I got a PadHoldr mount that has spacers to make it work with any tablet (Xoom, Galaxy, iPAd, whatever) and so far I really like it. It bolts underneath your dash and has an arm tha comes out. It covers up my radio controls so I could care less about that. Had this in there for months now going strong, has a foam pad on the back so it doesn't wobble around. Use this for Pandora/music videos/Google nav/Torque/everything. Highly recommended!!

Car Mount?

Does anybody know of a good car mount for the Kindle Fire yet. Luckily my car has auxiliary in so I can use it as some sort of in journey entertainment for my passengers. And a window mount probably wont do since im already using the Bionic car dock.

I would like to know this as well. Coming home last night I held my fire up to my radio (VW Jetta) and it almost fit perfectly. Thinking about taking the radio out and installing it in the radio's place. Anybody done anything like this? Maybe some other in-car tablet installs?

I have this and it works well.
I so want to do this with my KF. But I would want mine to be removable. Something like a dock that goes in place of the current head unit. Of course, without absurd wiring, you would need some kind of real head unit behind or under it.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004E5W3D4/
Just ordered one of these today. I'm really worried that it won't be wide enough for the KF. Couldn't really find any specifications on how far the clamps will widen.
Once I receive it I will update you guys.
Problem for me is my cd slot is covered by the faceplate, and my windshield is rather sloped. I need a way to mount to my dash without damaging the dash itself.

Hi all, i have one of these and unfortunatly it doesnt fit the Fire. The Fire is 4.7" wide and according to Mountek's website: The cradle has a maximum spread of 4.375". I'm also looking for a mount to use the Fire as my car stereo (doing this now with a iPhone, electronic x-over and cradle mount). Plan to do the same with the Fire and an Android phone.

Sorry. Haven't had a chance to post.
I received my Mountek on Saturday. Although the KF bends the mount arms back a little bit so it's an extremely (beyond) tight fit. It's been doing it's job so far, used it about 4 times so far on half-hour drives to work.
One thing that I wish is that is was flatter against the dash rather than stick out and hang down. However, it's most likely made that way so that it works with all types of cars/stereos.

I'm looking pretty seriously at one of the RAM mounts if I do decide to do a similar hack with my car. The only problem is, I currently hate my car right now, and unless I get it fixed, that's not going to go away.

Try the arkon gooseneck mount. I heard one for my Flyer (virtually same width as the Fire). Doesn't mount to the dash, but may work for your situation.

Though it looks like that would vibrate and shake a lot. Heh, to make it more difficult... My car is lowered, on race suspension, and I drive it hard. I may just have to modify another mount...

Windshield mount/dock

Verizon stores in wichita are clearing out the tbt accesories. I got a locking suction cup mount for $10. Best money ive spent. I told my wife i needed a new nav system until i used the phone for nav in houston, then i said i just needed a mount. This thing is awesome, car charger plugs in, phone locks in, and car dock comes on when phone inserted. I answer calls, speak texts, and speak to navigation. Its great!

if you're talking about the "official" mount (from iGrip) then yes, it is pretty awesome. It's even better if you mount the dock onto the dash-mount instead. If you clean the area first and then mount it, that thing will never move out of place - I've had mine installed that way since March 17th (when the phone came out) and it hasn't budged at all. I also put a 90 degree adapter on the 3.5mm audio jack and routed the wires behind it (and through the dash board) so it looks really nice - almost as if it came with my car.

Anyone have a recommendation for a mount that would make it possible to record traffic? Reading about the iGrip one suggests it blocks part of the view.
Right now I am considering the following:
walmart.com/ip/Scosche-Mobile-Windshield-and-Vent-Mount-Kit/14913091
extremepda.com/HTC-Thunderbolt-Gooseneck-Windshield-Suction-Cup-Car-Mount_p_2293.html
(Sorry, new user and can't link yet)
You can reposition the iGrip charger so that it doesn't block any of the camera, I've done it a few times when I felt like recording myself driving for no reason.

Anybody try the ebay car mounts?

Was curious if anybody has tried the cheap car mounts on ebay. I can't post links but they are model specific and around $6. There is one for the Inc2 and a slightly different one for the IncS.
If you wanted to search for them on ebay the titles are:
FOR HTC Droid Incredible 2 CAR MOUNT CRADLE HOLDER dock
Car Mount Holder Cradle For HTC Incredible S G11
I've been thinking about getting one to see if it is total garbage or not and thought maybe somebody else has already done that.

It should work just fine if you are not using a protective case on your DI2 - however, I do not like using these windshield mount, like GPS mount, as it's an open invitation for someone to break car windows looking for something of value in a grab & run.
I got something similar but a generic one with A/C vent mounting - horizontal style for a few dollars off eBay, great when using Google Map/Nav. on the go - the old Garmin has long retired even w. 2 updates.

I would throw the mount in the glove box when not in use. Was thinking about trying one of those bean bag things that just sit on the dash. Seems a lot easier than trying to undo the suction cup or the vent mount all the time.

Car Dock??

Is ibolt still the best car dock? is there seriously nothing better out there?
Made with the S3 in mind, yes (although it says it works with other models, like the S2). I haven't seen anything else out there apart from the Infuse dock which has gone scarce.
I've already got one, and a second on the way for my other car. With the current AT&T ICS software, USB sound works, but phone call sound doesn't route out the USB, so you must use the built-in speaker or a bluetooth unit.
I also have a T-Mobile S3 on official JB release. Works the same as the AT&T software, but I haven't actually tried phone calls to see if Samsung/T-Mobile fixed that issue.
I've been told CM10 supports both USB and phone audio, but I've never seen anyone confirm the phone audio part.

I found this... http://www.wirelessground.com/ibolt-samsung-galaxy-s3-s-iii-intelligent-vehicle-charging-dock.html for $36.95+Shipping (Cyber Monday Special) any better price than that out there?
It's [ibolt] the best option for a dock that has built-in USB cable capability. Unless you use a naked phone, then I would prefer the Infuse dock (does not work with ANY cases).
If you don't need USB cable built into the dock, then there are several options that look better IMO.
I'm really disappointed there aren't better dock options from Samsung themselves. No Infuse type dock for the S3 with case option. Very disappointed considering how many bazillions of S3's they have sold.
I just got the Imagnet holder today gonna test it out
+1 for imagnet. have gone through many docks and couldnt be happier with it
Heres a couple of mounts I found while searching for some different mounting options for my car. They have built-in micro USB plug, but they are a little pricey.
Note, if the link doesn't work, click on device mounts, then choose Samsung and galaxy (obviously) from the drop-downs...

I bought the Infuse as well, unfortunately, there's not really a good place to mount it in my car. If I use the windshield I cant reach the phone, and most of the dash space within reach is used up by vents/controls/compartments, etc. Kinda disappointed, I was looking forward to using the Infuse.
