[Q] Wonders from a newbie - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I have been playing a lot of emulators on PC during the years. But is right now thinking of buying an Xperia Play, because I understand that it´s quite a nice phone. It´s on quite a sale in scandinavia right now, so I might be getting one during the week.
I would however like some input for some questions, and would be thankful if someone would take their time to answer them for me.
1. I have problems finding a reliable compatibility list for PSX-gaming. Three of the games that I really itch to play are "Alundra", "Final Fantasy Tactics" and "Legend of Mana". Can someone please enlighten me how these games will run on a Xperia Play?
2. I also have a question about other emulators. Will SNES & Genesis-emulators run lag-free on an Xperia Play?
Thank you for reading (and maybe answering) .

The Xperia Play is really awesome for playing games in emulators. The only problem is that most of them don't support the touchpad.
These are the emulators I've tried:
NESoid
SNESoid - completely lag-free, to answer your question
N64oid (sometimes a bit laggy)
GBCoid - gameboy color emulator
GameBoid - GBA emulator
FPse - PSX emulator
Unfortunately neither of these support the touchpad. And for PSX games I actually prefer FPse to the official PSX emulator that comes with the Play, because, while the official one supports the touchpad (very nicely, might I add), it is a bit buggy with most games that aren't available officially for it.

not sure about genesis as i haven't tried it yet. snes is no problem as is gameboy/advance/colour. on the psx side of things, you could try fpse or psxdroid for emulators. you would need the roms for those games you want as well as the bios file. or, you could also convert the roms of those games to work via the play's playstation pocket app. the pre-installed crash bandicoot game will give you an idea of how smooth it is once converted using the psxperia tool.

This is a magnificent device for emulators. Nuff said

I have emulators for Yongzhi's emulators for:
-Gameboid - GamBoy Advance
-SNEWSoid - Super Nintendo
-Gensoid - Genesis
-FPse - PSX
-N64oid - N64
And they all work flawlessly and are availble at the SlideMe market for FREE except for the N64 and PSX emulators. The PSX emulator is avaible on the Android Market and works on a lot of games but of course not all of them. I would suggest you visit the FSpe forum to find out which specific games work for the Play.
The N64 emulator is available from the SlideMe market for I think 2 bucks. I works okay with some games but is still be updated. Also u can try the open source one but I forget what it's called. I think it's on the XDA forum somewhere.

[Q] Available PS1 games for Xperia Play?

Hey guys,
I'm considering getting an Xperia Play as my daily driver and using my Samsung Infuse as my "GalaxyS Touch", but I was wondering if a couple games are available.
Has anybody seen the Tony Hawk games available for this? How about Spyro? Ridge Racer Type 4? also, can the game buttons be mapped in NESoid? Aaaand my last question, is it possible to load your own PS1 games onto the device? I'm sorry if some of these questions have already been asked. I did use the search function first, seriously!
As of now the only PS1 game out in the US is Crash Bandicoot which comes with it. There have been some other releases that show on the Android market but can't be downloaded unless your phone is rooted.

That said, you can convert many PS1 games as long as you have the disc to work with the phone using this method, its free:

I believe people are using the control pad with the "oid" emulators as well.

[Q] Playstation Pocket

Hi and good day to all
(this is my 1st post actually)
just got the Xperia Play last week and just sold my old galaxy5 .. been browsing the forums and upgraded it to the latest firmware and kernel(thanks Mr DoomLord!)..
that's why it also inspired me to create an account and be a part of this forum rather than lurking.. anyway,
I saw some games for the xperia play and its all great but
I'm not quite familiar with the playstation pocket feature.. and the're also what they call FPSE and Psx4Droid, and cant seem to understand how to use them or which to use, right now im just playing the stock Crash Bandicoot shipped with it.
Can someone advice what's best to use or the easiest to setup because Ive tried to check those emulators and got me all confused with mixed opinions from people on other forums..
Thank you very much for your time
~nooj
Ok Playstation pocket is and app that list's all your bought "official" playstation games. If you launch the app and click on the search icon, a list of all available games to buy will be listed although there are not many yet.
Both psx4droid and FPse are playstation emulators. FPse is by far the more superior of these applications, I am yet to find a game that dosent run pretty perfectly on FPse. To use these emulators legally, you need to first rip the bios from your PS1 into .bin format, then rip any game you wish to play into .iso/.bin/.cue/ect.
Thanks Androhero!
Okay! Will try FPSE!
Is there already a free downloadable links for this?
I'm excited to play FF7 and MGS1 ! Thanks!

you can also use sony's psone emu. but you need psxperia tool first which i'll post a link later
also FPSE for psone and for SNES, Snes9x EX is available for free from http://www.explusalpha.com/home/snes9x-ex/downloads
not sure if ScummVM can be considered to be an emulator, but if you are (or were) a fan of good old lucas arts classic adventures like indiana jones, full throttle or day of the tentacle then this is a must-have!
Mupen64plus is a decent N64 emulator, and it's optimised for the Xperia Play. You can grab it from this thread.

[Q] Is GameKeyboard 2.0 able to work in any or all emulators?

Ive been searching for a good while on Google Play, Google Code, and sourceforge.net for emulators that fully support my SEMC Xperia PLAY touchpad, and found a small handful. Of that, only mupen64plus AE suited my needs. I dont have a computer at the moment, so PSXperia wont be an option at the moment. I mainly want psone, flash games, gameboy advance, and snes, as my n64 part is solved If there arent any, will the update to GameKeyboard have me covered?
As far as I know - mupen64 is the only emulator supporting the analog sticks.
Drop that as a must have, and there are emulators for PS1/SNES/NES/GBA/GBC/DOS and so on which support the play just fine.
GameKeyboard is to change Game buttons. for example, change on screen controls to the physical Touchpad
psx emu?
could you lead me to a psx emulator with touchpad. support, other than psxperia? I've already found ones for the other consoles I wanted to emulate. should I just keep my eye on fpse for now?

Emulators took down..

Did Ouya play store take emulators down? I was thinking about buying one but may not of this is the case. I know you can sideload but..

Not that I can see, also there are plenty of free emulators on the ouya store that run every bit as good as other 'paid' emulators.
The exception in my findings is that epsxe for android is far superior to other playstation emulators on the platform (also they support ouya out of the box).
Robert Broglia is the name to remember with emulators at the mooment.
Mupen64 is good but if you can find a 2.7 version of n64oid, it works even better for n64 games..
Retroarch android has many of these emulators built into the system and it is open source and free.

Cheers Danny.
I dunno. I paid for several of them. I was playing my GBA emulator of Final Fantasy 5 last night. All of my Emulators were on there. Actually they just updated the "Stock" NES/SNES/Atari Emu (it's weird though)
Ouya plays roms like a champ! The GBA emulator works flawlessly as does all the SNES roms I've tried. The SNES emulator is very jazzy and grabs all of the cover art automatically. I haven't used the "stock" version because you have to throw everything into a "Roms" file on the internal storage I think. I like my roms separated by console.
