About to purchase soon...Worried about potential problems. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I sold my Galaxy S2 yesterday so with the extra cash I acquired, I'm set on purchasing the Nexus since it always has insane developer support.
My only gripe is, I've been observing these forums for a while and I can't help but to see countless posts and many threads about problems with this phone.
I've read from phones boot-looping for no reason, screen issues, and other hardware defects that makes me wonder where Samsung's quality management has gone...
So I want to hear from you guys, have you had any problems/replacements/RMAs? I really want to get this phone but the problems are slowly wearing my wants.
Oh, and also it's extra hard since I won't be able to have warranty of some sort or have easy returns since my buying choices so far are amazon and ebay...

Forums are meant for people to discuss problems and complain.. I'm sure there are thousands of people who have no problems at all. People don't come to forums like this one to discuss how awesome their phone is. I have the GSM and my fiance has the verzion version and we haven't experienced many of the things discussed here.
Its the best phone on the market right now. Go get it!

I had a problem with radios (LTE) but they got fixed with the 4.0.4 leaks. That's really it.
You should be fine buying one.

OP is looking to get a GSM Galaxy Nexus, not LTE.
Haven't had any problems with the phone and love it. No defects whatsoever.

Thanks guys. I guess this is what happens when you get so caught up in the negativity, you kind of become paranoid. Heh.
Yeah, it looks like I'm about to purchase soon, I cannot wait for this device. I've been wanting a phone that has International development.

I haven't had any problems with mine, great battery, great screen, i love everything about this phone, really don't feel the need to buy anything else until the next Nexus device comes out.....

if i were you, i wouldn't even want to touch this phone.

Hahaha. yeah, i wouldn't want it blowing up in my face with all these problems right?

No issues with my gsm nexus.

Do you want fan boy feedback or honest feedback? I can give either. They aren't exactly the same though.

Okay, well up until I got my Galaxy Note yesterday I thought this was the most beautiful screen I'd ever seen. Don't ever do a side-by-side to the Note because the awe will wear off very quickly. The Galaxy Nexus has very obvious banding at lower brightness levels although you won't really see any blobs. (I haven't anyway.) The lack of SD card won't immediately bother you but sooner or later it will cross your mind. The phone does have a tendency to occasionally and randomly reboot. I haven't had the issue in a couple weeks although before that it was happening at least once a day for a couple weeks. Some games on the Galaxy Nexus have multi touch issues. Screen-on time will be significantly shorter than that of the GS2. (About 4 hours is the max.) Other than that, I would still recommend it. I've never looked back after getting rid of my GS2 but I feel you should know the facts before making a decision and potentially being unhappy about it. If you have more questions, I'll be glad to answer if possible.

Well, just dont buy anything second hand. dont wanna land yourself a first batch gnex. the first batch are the ones with the most problems, especially the screen. the made in china ones are the newer batch and seem to have sorted out some screen problems. not everything made in china is bad these days lol.
anyways, had my phone for less than a month, and 85% of the time i spent flashing LOL. enjoy the nexus!

Try it for a couple of weeks... of you like it, keep it, if you don't...

No Probs
I have the gnex and have to say that I have no complaints except for the radios and battery life on 4g. Call quality isnt as good as my old droidx, but the 4.0.4 radios seem to have helped a little.
Other than that i love this phone, I've thought about trading for a razr but I just cant bring myself to do it. There are not enough advantages of doing so. I have had no random reboots or other quirky issues.

Ok my honest opinion. Coming from the fact I feel 50/50 about it. I wouldn't of bought it if i'd had two weeks to test it.
Pros:
Screen is excellent
ICS looks nice
Sound quality through headphones is good
Sat Nav works well
Cons:
Loudspeaker is far too quiet
Back cover creaks and clicks like cheap junk
Vibrate is not powerful enough
Graphics in apps & games are a little slow and laggy
Camera is average at best.
Most of the plus points of the phone I would say are thanks to ICS, most of the cons of the device are hardware, in my opinion.

That's why I came here. I currently have a gs2 skyrocket which is doomed to walk the earth with touchwiz. Really considering the gnex for 460, if not ill wait for the next HTC

Not trying to be a fanboi here but there are some flaws with what you are saying.
I have had 3 different GNexus's and none of them have had this terrible banding issue that everyone is talking about. Maybe I am blind, maybe I am stupid, but this is just a non issue for me.
I have yet (In 4 months of owning the device) to have a problem with not having an SD Card. Not having to worry about an SD Card failing and me losing all my backups actually makes me feel better/safer.
Never had a random reboot trying almost all the ROMs and most kernels out there (Maybe just lucky?)
Multi touch issue is a problem that was fixed in 4.0.4 and can also be fixed in 4.0.3 by turning your screen off and on.
Bigger screen, more pixels, probably brighter, of course screen on time will be less.
This phone has some issues but what you point out here are minor (In my case) and just want to give the OP both sides of the story.

Super Quick Review of the Galaxy Nexus for those that havent bought it yet.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is amazing, but for those already coming from Android(like myself) it wont totally blow you away.
HD Super AMOLED is beautiful...but again...if you are already coming from AMOLED, it wont blow you away even if it is a higher resolution.
Dont ask me about internals, because I honestly dont know much about comparing one dual core from the other or one GPU from the other.
Building materials(plastic) are crap, but on the contrary, the phone still feels nice in the hand. Many complain about it being too big, but I dont feel that it is...and I even have small hands.
The screen on my first Galaxy Nexus(I had to get a replacement because of signal issues) scratched really easily, so buy a tough screen protector...Im going to get ghost armor in the next couple of days.
Software buttons at the bottom are nice, but for some reason my multitasking button lags.
Call quality thus far on my replacement has been good.
SMS/MMS/keyboard are great, however, today I discovered something new since its Christmas. I wanted to send a Merry Christmas SMS to all of my contacts, but stock ICS doesnt have the ability to select multiple people...all you can do is type in their name.
Lastly, the camera....well...it sucks, but the software is fun to play with.
Oh wait...battery life....to me it doesnt suck that bad for a smart phone, I used to have the Droid Incredible and the Droid Incredible 2...I would go from having a full charge at 745am and I would get home from school at 3pm and charge it...and it is exactly the same for my Nexus
Final thoughts:
The whole reason I bought the phone is because of Ice Cream Sandwich and the thought of consistent updates. Coming from someone who used to be extremely partial to HTC Sense, I can assure you that ICS is finally ready to be used without a skin...in fact that is why I left Sense, I love what it was, but I hate what it is/becoming...to me HTC is the Apple of Android OEMS. As far as other skins go, I see a potential future for TouchWiz for those that dont want the Galaxy Nexus. And Motorola, Ive never liked MotoBlur.
All in all, I am happy with my purchase and would recommend it to a friend, if they can cope with having a terrible camera. Just think of pure Android and updates straight from Google...you dont have to wait 6 months to get the next version of Android.
Camera does'nt suck if you know how to use it.. press and hold on the shutter button to let it focus, release to snap the pic.. after you have focust you can snap fast shots.

I'm not bothered by the plastic build quality at all. IMHO SE's android phone line feel way more plasticky in my hand than any samsung phone
I don't quite understand the build quality part, because, when I first held this phone in my hand I was shocked, really.
That's something no iPhone or Sensation, or any other phone could do, this one beat them all, and did it with more durable materials.
I'm a bit worried about screen scratches. I got my Nexus a few days ago and I treated it like a baby. I hate screen protectors, so is it really easily scratchable? Any more insights on this?

from various forum posts; it seems that the glass is quite soft on the GNexus
I have this random cheapo protector on mine; I'm awaiting for my "better skins ever" skin protector
To everyone telling me that the camera doesn't suck...this is my personal review .yes I absolutely know how to use it right... but but my issue is that the pictures are better on my 2 year old Droid Incredible than they are on the Galaxy Nexus.
And yes, the screen is very brittle... I never dropped my first galaxy nexus and somehow I ended up with a a deep scratch on it... I'm still trying to figure out how I got it.

I agree with you it's not the best phone camera! My X10 still takes better shots in good light but the camera on GN does'nt suck, i'm totally satisfied with it, it's fast it takes good shots. My personal favorite setting atm is the partymode. Seems to produce most accuracy in sharpness and all the other benefits of this phone makes up for where more dedicated cameraphones lack. Ofcourse you are more then allowed to have your oppinion on any aspect of your phone, I will still defend the parts I disagree with
Edit: I changed my mind on camera setting might have just been lucky playing around with it a moment ago.. i was really waving it around in my livingroom and got great sharpness pic after pic but 2min ago it was the opposite.. still though, it IS capable! Cheers

How did you go about getting a replacement for your Nexus with signal strength? Mine signal is horrible and I think I might do the same. Do you just bring it in to the Verizon store or are there extra procedures/fees?

I bought it from Best Buy and told them it had horrible signal and the battery overheated...and they exchanged it with no problem.
I would think it would be the same from the Verizon store too...and there shouldnt be extra fees unless you are exchanging it for a different phone such as the Droid RAZR

Convince me!

So I have the option of getting a Galaxy Nexus here in the next few days for Sprint. I currently have the Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch. I have been browsing the Nexus threads for awhile now and I have seen plenty of threads that show both the pros and cons to the phone. The only problem is, everything is so scattered. Do you think you guys would be able to give me the direct pros and cons for the phone? Why would I like it better then the E4GT? I have a couple of friends that have the Nexus and I absolutely love it, but they don't know as much about the actual phone itself then you guys do. And honestly, I am with them on that, but I joined XDA to learn all about this stuff and I have learned a lot
So... Any information would help. I know that Nexus definitely get their updates a lot faster from what I have read.
Actually how about you tell me why I shouldn't get the phone? That might be easier? Regardless, thank you very much.
I am currently on the stock FF18 build for the E4GT and am having just a few minor issues with it. I updated the PRL for the phone this morning and ever since then, I have had horrible battery, my 4G won't start up, the phone is running extremely hot, and just a lot of things that I don't want to deal with.
Mean reason not to get it for me: no SD card. But I bought it anyway, and I'm very happy with it. Extremely smooth, never any lag at all. Just need to be a bit conservative with disc space. I still have 10 GB free so I'm far from worried yet. You can always move some files to your computer with a few clicks if necessary anyway.

Don't buy it. The forum is full of redundant threads where people ask others to make their purchase decisions for them.
You obviously like the phone. Get it. You won't be disappointed by it. I almost fell for the S3 hooblah but happy I chose Gnex first. I don't care for physical buttons and am a HUGE AOSP fan! The SD thing had me concerned but on average everyone is packing about 32gb with SD cards anyhow. The 5mp camera is not as bad as one would think though I don't expect my phone to take professional photos. And once you find a winning kernel/ROM combo battery life is fine. It may not be the most powerful phone in the world but what phone is?? (At least for more than a month or so before the next phone craps on it.) People will flame broil you for this post but hey, they don't have to read it. They choose to. Whatever you decide, enjoy your new device.

Guys be straight here.
PROS:
1. 4.65" high res display
2. No carrier brand
3. Has a strong development group
4. Will have Google's support for a few years.
5. It's easy to tink with it when rooted.
6. Hella easy to root.
7. First in line for updates.
8. Gets the first port for almost everything.
9. Removable battery
10. Unified storage.
11. Soft keys are better and more responsive and don't wear down and can be removed easily.
12. Stock AOSP.
13. Durable.
14. Runs 4.1.1
15. Has a lot of accessories (if Ur getting a GSM)
16. Easy to swap white or black housings. (GSM)
17. Fast and has almost no lag(The OS anyways)
Cons:
1. Bad camera.
2. Eh battery
3. Has grains on the screen when dim.
4. Heats up(always a con for a android)
5. Bad at GPS and WiFi(sometimes)
6. Doesnt use too notch plastics.
7. No SD(reason for unified storage)
8. Dual core and not a S4 or quad like ppl hoped for(4.1 makes it feel fast though)
9. It's really bad on sprint with 3G.(but that's on sprint
Those are my reasons I can think. Other members can extend the list if they can think of more.

If you need convincing to buy a phone over another, then what's the point of even thinking of buying a phone? If we convince you or force you in any way, you might not like the phone when you actually have it.
You'll be thinking: "ugh, why didn't I get the other phone?"
Trust me, I know this from past experiences, and boy have I suffered from making the wrong choices.

Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately I do have Sprint, and the area I'm currently living in doesn't have a full 4G going yet. I'll have to look into that. My E4GT isn't the greatest either I've noticed. I find myself using a lot more Wi-Fi.

Ok, well do note that the LTE variant of the Galaxy S3 is quite different hardware-wise from the GSM version.
I bought this phone yesterday and I'm very happy with it but (there's always but)... I have european GSM version and the speker is way to low with it's sound level even when it's set to it's highest volume point.
build quality is OK, it has plastic covers so it doesn't gives strong impressions when in hand like HTC or Motorola devices in my opinion. Earpiece is also OK, my Motorola Defy had excellent earpiece compared to this.
Also Google changed how volumes are controled in ICS so you can't set separate volume for notifications like on Gingerbread or Froyo for an example.
For people who work in IT sector like me and have a bounch of e-mails or SMS alerts during the night that option was very useful. Luckily ther is application for that and it's called simply: Sound Profile.
I absolutely love the screen and it's size even tho on low brigthess white color is washed out, probably due to SAMOLED screen don't know exactly.
Battery is not lasting very long. I don't have it much but I think that after about 4 hours with screen on you'll have to put it on a charge.
There's my opinion if it can help to someone... After 2 years or so I think I'll buy Motorola again.
I came from the SGS2 last month and this phone is the best phone I have owned, That epic touch was such a pain in the ass to work with that I am glad it's in a box sitting for it's next owner. I bricked my 1st one and hated the phone since.
The GNex was my first Nexus device, and now i have a Nexus 7. I will no longer buy another non nexus phone or tablet again.
Rooting and flashing on this phone is incredible. Honestly best experience I've had.

No, I won't buy it right now. Since the last android 4.1.2 (JB) many users (including me) are experiencing casual and frequent reboots (most likely due to the proximity sensor) and neither Google or Samsung are providing decent support or answers for this major issue (it happens very frequently during calls).
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=37485
So delay the purchase or chose another phone; take in consideration a Galaxy 3 if you can afford it, but check in advance if there are outstanding major problems, or a Galaxy 2 that you can get for a cheap price, or an HTC.
You have been warned, buy it a t your risk because Samsung/Google support sucks.
Funny post.

I'd buy one. Mainly for the fact - 1. If the next nexus is the rumored LG one - It won't have a super amoled screen PLUS the GN looks better. 2 - Software updates would still be awesome for the nexus in spite of another one coming out. 3 - Amazingly cheap.
I broke my nexus on my birthday 2 days back and I'm thinking of buying another one. I had an option to choose between a Nexus, an S3, a note 2 and an iFag 5. I've used them all (Except the iFag) - And trust me, the feel of the GNex can never be beaten.

wow, basically anything you say at this point has no merit. You come to the nexus forum to talk bad about the nexus. You say 'many users' but I would like to see this data. You know this might be a shock to you but sometimes phones are faulty when they ship out and you likely have one of such phones. Contact support and get it replaced. I can only relate my experience, I haven't had a random reboot on my phone since I bought it in july. Also your speculations for the reboot issue is pretty random stabs in the dark, or just roll back to 4.1.1 instead of flashing 4.1.2 just because it's new.
Also notice every phone you list you talk bad about in your signature, im willing to bet its the hand that is holding your phones lol
Personally, the thing that's keeping me from jumping to the next phone is vast array of dev support. There's so many ROMs, kernels, mods (like PGM, trickster) to tweak and customize your phone with. Sure, the hardware is becoming quickly lackluster but in the end it should be the user experience (which can be highly tailored to your liking) that counts.
Easy to root and install roms, first in line for android upgrades for the time being and has adequate hardware. Not bad if you can get it for cheap. :good:
Buy it man, it still worth it, just bought it yesterday and hold it for 8hours no single lag so far, and you never found not working list on any rom
No reboot or anything, battery life still acceptable imo.

Wait until that ugly LG Nexus comes out then buy the GNex as the price will probably drop.

My comment has merit and provides, to the guy asking for support in taking a decision, a useful information. Since there are thousands of users with this outstanding major problem, I gave a suggestion based of facts. I do not speculate, me as well as other thousands users have come to this conclusion; we wouldn't guess if only Samsung or Google had provided an answer. BTW I already provided the info regarding this issue.
If you are happy with this phone, and you do not suffer this outstanding major issue, just provide a "BUY" opinion, instead of bashing others, and respect other community members.
Regarding my phones I've been a happy owner of the HD2, sadly the digitalizer broke for the 3rd time, the only reason to buy a Nexus.
The OMNIA is a crap phone ...yet another Samsung...
I'm not, luckily, one of those "fanatic" that feels enthusiastic about a phone only because they have spent some bucks on it. If something sucks, it sucks. So far is "NO BUY".

This issue seems to affect s significant percentage of recent phones. If you look at the link provided you'll see that the thread has been opened just recently and most likely this is the reason why there is no post here.
The other reason is that is someone should ever dare to discuss it here, blaming this marvelous piece of technology, he would be banned by Nexus fanatics, instead of trying to figure out a solution
GSM Nexus:
Pros:
- gets updates immediately and supported twice as long as carrier Android phones
- not bloated
- nice development
- can use on Tmo or Att
- decent price
- carrier unlocked
- good mid-range phone
- easy to root
- can use with a pre-paid sim to save a lot of money over carriers
Cons:
- old hardware doesn't run the latest version of Android lag free IMO, but does an OK job. Even overclocked it stutters at times.
- screen has good blacks but is yellow and grainy, will have to adjust it via root
- one of the worst cameras I have ever had on a smartphone
- wifi signal is garbage
- speaker is garbage
Sure, it has quite a bad speaker, dancing battery cover, for some not-so-good screen,... But in my opinion, it's the only phone worth buying. I have it for almost a year now, and I didn't have a single problem, it works like a Swiss clock. This phone is pure magic. Just buy it.

I don't think it has a bad speaker at all, using some apps such as Volume+ fixes it.
Battery cover: never had a problem at all.
Screen: no problems, using a kernel with color changer support makes it even more amazing.
I know that the things I've mentioned above are fixable one way or another but it's fair to point them out. Like I said, I wouldn't buy any other phone. But still, build quality is quite poor, tbh. And that's the only thing that can't be fixed by a simple app or kernel.

Besides, the Nexus 4 thread is actually spammed with people having problems with the phone, phone "breaks" randomly in their pocket, pics of broken Nexus 4s, etc

I gotta laugh at everyone that said the n4 blowwwwws the t989 out of the water in every way. Lol
First....go to the n4 forum and read the problems people are having.
Second ...a friend of mine got one...I played with it a bit. Severely unimpressed. Sure its speedy....but barely quicker than my t989. The display looks like crap compared to mine. And it simply seems fragile! Very!
I will hold on to my Hercules til it breaks or my contract ends and I feel like replacing it. Maybe. My phone does everything I want it too very well. So until phones will do my dishes and tune up my car....I'll maybe stick with what I got. Lol
As far as the n4 goes.....I doubt I'd even trade my phone for it. Actually ....no....I wouldn't.

I'm patiently waiting for shipping orders to finish. Then I'm selling this t989 and jumping ship back onto the Nexus. As far as what the guy up top said about development on the Nexus, clearly he's new to XDA. No phone has more dev support than the Nexus line does. In fact, much of your favorite AOSP roms were built and first released on Nexus devices. Not only that but Nexus devices always get Google's newest OS' first. The t989 doesn't even have full Jelly Bean GPU driver support.. you guys don't even know what project butter truly is yet.
Second, the t989s dual core s3/adreno 220 SoC cannot in anyway whatsoever compete with the quad s4 pro/adreno 320 SoC. You can clock this phone as high as you want and score 9000 on antutu and its still not enough to beat the 13,000 the s4 pro SoC averages.. and that's on stock builds.
Third, if you say the 720p IPS display isn't better than the 480p over saturated SAMOLED display on the t989, clearly you're either blind or couldn't tell a good display if one took a dump on your eyeballs. While blacks will never be as deep, color reproduction is much better on the Nexus 4. And if Voodoo follows suit like on the other Nexus devices, well be able to tweak and calibrate the screen to our will.
Battery life? Nexus 4 wins hands down. Build quality? The t989 looks like crap compared to the Nexus 4.
Working for T-Mobile, I've already played with about 4 Nexus 4s. They're beautiful devices. Super fast and smooth.
Now stop hating and come back to reality. This phone wasn't even better than the other GSIIs, let alone any flagship device released this year. We can all use the "my phone does everything well" excuse but frankly, so can my old single core Nexus S.
With that being said, you kids can continue making up all sorts of crazyness up in trying to justify your purchase over a brand new handset that's better in every conceivable way. It makes for some great comedy.

Don't take it so personal is all. No one was "crying" and some don't need the fastest phone on earth to be perfectly happy.
Seems the phone crowd has some min/maxers....which is fine ...their choice. I don't have a top of the line gaming computer either....my laptop "does what I want it to do" just fine. Just like my Hercules.
I will be keeping this phone for some time. I could buy an n4, or anything else for that matter, tomorrow .....but I feel no need to. That's me. Maybe not you.
Can't we all use whatever phone we want without the hate?

Well see, your opinion makes sense. I can dig that. Unfortunately that's not the OPs reasoning as he full out stated that the t989 is better. You can be happy with whatever device you want. You can't take that away from anyone. But facts are facts. And this device doesn't come anywhere close to a Nexus 4. That's all I'm saying.

Dropped it twice, waist high, No problems here seriously it's a phone with glass, just like the t989(don't think the t989 has gorilla glass 2 though) but if your not careful its going to break like every other phone.

As a former T989 owner and a current nexus 4 owner, this thread makes me laugh (and I was running AOKP jellybean on mine). Don't get me wrong, I loved my hercules and it is still a great phone, but let's be realistic here. The nexus 4 is hands down a better device in almost every way possible.
Screen
The display is far from "carp". Yes, if you are used to AMOLED displays (like the one on the T989), you will initially find the colors to be "washed out". But in reality, this is because AMOLED screens have grossly over-saturated and unrealistic colors. The blacks are not as deep as AMOLED but they are damn close (again this is due to the nature of IPS displays). Nexus 4 screen is much much sharper, the whites are actually white (and not blue like the one on the T989) and colors are more natural. There is a reason why most reviewers rate is as one of the best displays on any phone. IMO, there is no competition here.
Performance
Again, there is a big difference here (even with JB on the T989). Nexus 4 is smoother and snappier in general use. But heavy usage like gaming is where the biggest difference lies. As for benchmarks, the lower than expected scores are due to benchmark programs not being optimised for 4.2 (go see the difference between the new and old version of Antutu). And honestly, in reality, benchmarks don't mean s***. All I need to know is that this phone handles everything I throw at it without any hiccups and certainly much better than the T989. If you think that a two gen old dual core with 1 Gb ram preforms as a well as the current top end quad core with twice the ram, you are delusional.
Storage and battery
Storage is the only area where T989 has an advantage with its micro sd slot. If you are the type of person that needs to store all of your life on your phone then nexus 4 is not for you. Personally, I barely store anything on my phone (I had used up only about 4 gb of the internal space on my t989) as everything is on the cloud, so even the 8GB nexus 4 is more than enough. Again this is a personal thing so it's a disadvantage for some people but not others.
Battery life for me has been much better on the nexus 4 than on the t989. Obviously, everyone's usage is different so this will vary from person to person, but I'm extremely happy with mine.
Build quality
Here again, there is no competition. The nexus 4 has a much more solid build and has a very premium feel to it. My T989's plastic back started to creak like crazy just after a few days of owning it and it drove me crazy. I thought I was using a low-end entry level device rather than a premium product.
Yes the nexus has a glass back and yes glass cracks when you drop it...who knew huh? So if you are the type to drop your phone frequently, don't buy it or just get a case for it, end of story.
As for the problems being reported, very few newly released devices are without issues and this is a fact. T989 had it's fair share of problems, some of which have still not been fixed till this day (sticky power button anyone?). If you are someone who can't handle even a minor problem with your device, than a newly released phone is not for you (whether it be a nexus 4 or something else). And let's not forget that problems reported on online forums can be blown out of proportion. After all, only those who have issues are going to complain, while those without issues will probably remain silent. Personally, my nexus 4 is flawless, except for the slight static/buzzing problem from the earpiece reported by many people. However, this noise is very faint and inaudible during calls, so this is a non-issue for me. I'm confident that google will fix the issue and when they do, I will ask them to send me a replacement. After all, that's what the warranty is there for. In the mean time, I'm really enjoying owning this phone over my t989.
Oh and let's not forget about the pure android experience and the fact that you will get updates as soon as google releases them. Even if you are into modding, the nexus is the best phone for that as well as its modding community has always been the strongest out of any android phone. You guys really need to step back and look at things objectively here. As someone who has owned and lived with both phones, I can tell you that there is no competition between the two.

Do you trust this tablet enough to buy a 32GB?

Current 32Gb owners feel free to aviod this topic if you wish, I know you're answer will contain bias
Multitouch issues, GPS issues, random reboots. All making headlines in the tech media. When I see this I have to ask myself do I REALLY want to entrust this company with the higher priced model? I mean it's $40 ok I get it. But when it comes to customer satisfaction and not wanting to get burned you have to draw the line somewhere.
No matter what, you're not going to get burned.
They have a 1 year warranty.
The extra memory, given non expandable storage just makes sense.
If your that concerned about quality control, why buy it in the first place ?
Personally in going for more memory, because I think I may need it.
Also yeah, warranty is included (and you can always flash stock)
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Just like The_Zodiac said. If you are that concerned, why buy it? You're not buying a faulty tablet. You're buying a tablet that has a possibility of being faulty. Let's just say that there is something wrong, why wouldn't you just exchange it for a new one?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
No, I wouldn't trust this thing if it were given to me for free. Like most of you, I'm on my second one. Some of you are even on your third or fourth one. At that point, why not just return the thing for good or deal with the issues? You shouldn't have to return a tablet this many times in order to get a properly functioning one. This is absolutely unacceptable.
I'm worried about quality control because bad quality control shouldn't exist on such a large scale with these tablets. ASUS has had plenty of time to make a tablet properly. From their own Transformers to their other tablets all the way to the first gen Nexus 7. All of them have problems and it's annoying because you'd think after making so many, you'd figure out how to do it right, or at least bring the problem rate down low enough.
You pretty much of a 75% chance of getting a tablet with some issue that manifests itself only after you really start using the damn thing.
Come on Google, get Samsung on this.
Still on my first 32gb, no problems at all. No multi touch issues, no reboots, no dead pixels. I think one of the big problems is that you only hear the bad stuff, you don't hear from the satisfied customers.

This is the problem with these forums.. people come here to complain but don't post when they are satisfied with the product.. as such every little problem is blown out of proportion.. I have this tablet for the past 5 days and yet to face any problems.. All in all highly satisfied with my purchase.. 32 GB is a good option if you keep a lot of media or a heavy gamer.. otherwise 16 gb is good enough ..
First and foremost there is no product released till date that doesn't have some problems... if you are worried about it that you might get a faulty product then you should not buy any electronic item as there is a negligible chance that it may be faulty..
So, if you really want enjoy the nexus experience trust your gut and go ahead.. you will never be able to understand whether you will get a good product or a bad one by asking these questions in a forum

I say if you have a 16GB or God forbid the 8GB 1st gen like I pre ordered GET THE 32! I did and I love it.
Rooted it and put TWRP on it as soon as I got home running the Cyanogen nighties now.
I have no problem here. Work flawlessly. :good:
We have 2 of these 2013 32GB N7s at home.
None of them have shown any of the issues mentioned.
GPS works flawlessly on both of them(use mine daily driving around Houston)
Screen had been impeccable - no light bleed, no dead pixels, no multi-touch issues.
Having been burned before by ASUS on the Prime and disappointed by the Infinity, I bought this with a very critical eye on everything hardware related. That's why I skipped on the first N7. If there was just an iota of something wrong with the unit I have, it would have been returned in a heart beat.
I ended up buying a second one for the rest of the family. This one's mine
Glad to see ASUS finally step up...and hope it lasts longer than a device life-cycle.

Exactly.
I do have the GPS issue and a reboot usually fixes it, at may or may not stop working the rest of the trip.
The touchscreen grounding issues is annoying. If it laying on a table or mounted in my car it touch screen may become unresponsive at times. Picking it up in my hands and it seem to work fine. This issues are annoying, but I'm still keeping my tablet.
Not sure I will be buying Asus products in the future.

Still on my first 32gb, no problems at all. No multi touch issues, no reboots, no dead pixels. I think one of the big problems is that you only hear the bad stuff, you don't hear from the satisfied customers.

Same here. On my first 32GB model that I bought from my local Best Buy 2 days before the "official" release date. No issues whatsoever with mine! I completely agree that happy customers don't get on the Web to praise the tablet for working good, where as unhappy customers do get on the Web to discuss the issues that they're having! Also, I don't know of a single electronic device that doesn't have some issues with some of the products that made their way to the general public's hands! I simply don't think it's possible to have 100% perfect Quality Control for any company...

WTF? Most of us?...You might be the biggest exaggerating liar I have ever had the displeasure of reading...
I trust it. There are less then 100 posts from 100 unique users with the issues you describe in your opening post on this forum of 1000's....
That and warranty = good to go.

Isn't it unfortunate how some people just assume that if they're having a problem then everyone MUST be having the same exact problem! Lol
Anyway.
OP, your question should have been - Do you trust this tablet enough to spend ANY money on it. If you don't trust the device then you shouldn't spend a dime on it! As others have already said, if you're willing to spend $230 for the 16GB model, then spending $270 for the 32GB model is a no-brainer on a device that doesn't have removable storage, IF you need the storage. If you're willing to spend $230 for it, then $40 more isn't a problem. Plus you do get a 1 year manufacturer warranty with the device, so that will take care of natural issue if by chance you do have one. If you have the option to buy at a local store, then I think that is your best choice.
What I'm trying to say is this - You SHOULD NOT be contemplating the $40 difference in storage options based on trust. You SHOULD be contemplating making the purchase at all if you're concerned about it.
That said, I have ZERO issues with mine and couldn't be happier! I already have a 10" tablet and a 5.5" phone, but this 7" tablet fits nicely in between and serves it's on purposes for different scenarios. I HIGHLY recommend it!!!!

Exact same thing here (GPS every now and then... been a few days now) and unresponsive multi when ungrounded. But I have to believe Asus/Google will swap it out f they decide it's not a software thing.
If you are somewhere where a swap would e an issue though, I don't know OP. Check it out thoroughly before taking it too far
My first device had uneven gaps on the bezels. My 2nd one has been flawless. I have had no issues at all.
