ICS on HTC G1 !!! Why not Galaxy W ???? - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

Title says all. here is the link :

Dude, that phone has much bigger user base...and much bigger developer base. Currently we have Arco and some other guys helping him and that's pretty much it. Read some posts in cm9 thread in this section and it should be clear to you.

Friend , I look at the CM9 thread many times in a day to know the status. I think more developer should come up to port the Rom from different devices.

In case you don't know developers don't fall out of the sky nor show up when magically summoned. I think we are pretty lucky as there is already someone who is working on cm9 and has the knowledge to port it.
But if you don't think so, go ahead and start working on it yourself.

this is the very old sentence , I have been listening this since I joined XDA.
You got me wrong. I meant to say that we should appreciate new developers by sharing the knowledge of porting/building so we could have more developers.
As I can imagine there are many developers here (i had this idea by different posts in W), some of them are web developers and some of them are desktop developers.
So if we could just point them to right directions then they would be also the Android developers.
So instead of taunting we should share, spread and welcome new developers also.
@arco is doing his best. But let me know the person who doesn't want a lot of Roms for our galaxy w !!!
If you dont have open source development knowledge then look for Ubuntu. How they are working together to achieve the same goal in a team work. they always welcome new developers by sharing and appreciating knowledge.
i hope you understand my point.
Thanks

and my humble request is to please don't challenge anyone. there is nothing impossible in this world. Working in a right direction, and on right time with excellent knowledge, anyone can achieve impossible things.
what will happen to you if I challenge you for porting a single rom, What would be your feelings ?
99.5% peoples joins XDA to get some test of customized ROMS and for the resolutions of their problems. Then dont want anyone to challenge him.
Thanks

I think the reason of Galaxy W having few developers is the absence of it on USA and some other major countries. As far as I know, I didn't see Galaxy W on Samsung's USA and Australia websites...(and maybe Singapore?? I forgot)
When I first signed up at Mycolorscreen to submit a modified screen of my phone, I didn't see any Galaxy W so maybe that's a way to tell that Galaxy W isn't very popular worldwide.

Hi guys,
I really like this new phone from HTC and I'm seriously considering of buying it. However, even with all the ICS improvements, I still like the original and pure googlish android 4.0 experience more than the new sense. Do you think that a fast, clean and smooth pure-ICS rom will be avaiable soon on the HTC One X? You know...I think HTC published a lot of drivers these days, so I assume it wouldn't be too difficoult to build a clean and simple ICS rom from sources...
Anyway, I hope the answer to this topic will come as a new thread containing directly some interesting download links ;D
Thanks!
A pointless thread in the Developement forum.
I'm sure we will se a CyanogenMod ROM but not because of your request..

You aren't funny. At all. I come from a wonderful experience within the Nexus development area of xda (I've got a N1), and I wanted to start sharing some ideas here in the mind of getting this HTC in the near future. I guess some people here think to be god only for the higher experience or...whatever, and they enjoy themselves answering like as more as possible.
Overall...yes, you've got a result now. I'll probably get a Galaxy Nexus, but surely not for sense-related tastes... just to avoid the need of talking again with people like you. You could have answered "surely CyanogenMod will fit your needs, buy this awesome device and you won't wait long! ;D", and you would have even so 'closed' the request, but with a smile.
A word is enough to the wise
I don't think you're wise enough anyway. You're spamming answering like that, not me. I've made an answer. Nothing forbidden or...whatsoever.
p.s.:CyanogenMod is still unavaiable for many devices that have gingerbread/ICS very well-developed from other devs. Usually, CM comes months after a stable release (official or not) has been shared. On the N1, we've ICS fully working (incl. HWA), and CM devs said we won't get their 'v.9' almost surely.
That's all.
EDIT: I think people should ask about future developments...to developer. Why should I be answered from the 'general section' users? Why should they know if developers are now or are planning of working on a pure ICS release??

Just be honest and tell us that you have never wanted to buy the One X..

Please tell me who is the real spammer?
I felt a decision: I won't buy the One X, the HTC Wildfire is a better smartphone without so many spamming in the forum there..

Its time to say Good-bye

Hello my Friends,
The time has really come to say Good Bye to all my Wonder Friends. I enjoyed and had a good time with all of you by learning/porting stuff.
I8150 is really a nice phone, but I needed to shift from this phone due to some reason.
Long story short, I spent half of my life in coding, leading teams of software engineers, managing enterprise level ERPs and architecting enterprise level application in all the latest and old languages/technologies. I took out some time and did some porting stuff, but my main target was to develop CM7 from sources.
I have most experience in Java/J2EE and less in C++. I tried to take help from different peoples but my bad luck no one guided me due to lack of time or just for no reason.
Not only from our forum I tried to contacted Exihibit II , Galaxy S Plus but I didn't get positive response, whatever the reason is but no one guide me. I searched myself and read a lot of material on net but not a single guide is perfect. There is no problem with Linux setup, I am use to of it.
I believe in Opensource and helping each other by spreading/sharing knowledge but in my case I couldn't search a person like this.
So I decided to switch (just not for CM7) to a device that have a lot of custom roms.
The porting I did is an asset for all of you. I want the guys should come up and take over the Roms from me. I hope you enjoyed my custom roms. If there is anyone who has some programming experience with smali/backsmali, apktool, understanding rom folders, hands on on merging /diff, ready to take risk of bricking then I will be happy to transfer my knowledge, but due to my tough schedule the person should be expert and self starter.
And finally I would like to special thank @arco, @andyroid, @irishpancake and All my Wonder community members.
Thank You All
i wish i had enough knowledge cuz i really wantd to learn from you but im just a noob at these stufff
but i hope u have a better experience with your new device

Hi Ali dsd,
Please stick around as there's no one place or person to obtain this building -information in a reliable and complete form that we're looking for. I too got burnt similarly and still am in process of setting my own build environment based whatever that seemed to work for me from my captures from various blogs, forums and sites.
It's from open minded contributors like you that, when collectively packaged, would effective stuff come and came from. While I respectfully disagree this to be a reason for departure which is quite an expected risk with any open source stuff, I think your presence and continued contribution would benefit others looking to go along your route, though your participation might be less active than earlier.

Don't worry @andyroid, I am not going from XDA, I will be around , I will be checking W forums ( I haven't deleted it from my Fav ) time to time.
Amazingly my new device is not a high end device, Its just Nexus S. I think you will ask why ????
It will save my time . ... How ???? Mostly all types of Rom flavors are there, I just need to flash and use it, and the time I save from here can put on getting some certifications (like PMP, J2EE Architect and MCPD ). Its my decision and it doesn't mean that Nexus S is superior then Galaxy W.
Believe me or not but Galaxy W is an amazing device based on hardware it uses and the small size is very pocket friendly.

I am always here, i can be reached on PM or email.
I have already said that anyone who have some knowledge in porting can contact me , i will happily transfer my knowledge, because sharing knowledge is the major path to increase knowledge and community, but the person should have some experience.
I want someone to continue MIUIv4 and AOKP, or if someone come-up with their own porting version of any Rom then please ask Mod to delete my two threads.
I really appreciate all of your feelings.
Thanks,

HI alidsd, I understand you, cause I have your same motivation on developing. I studied information tecnology, so I have some knowledgies, but I'm new with android and I'm trying to do somenthing with my rom. I have your main target, build cm7 from source, but as u said there isn't a guide that really help in this, and for me is difficult to begin with it.
So now I have begininng to first port some mods to a gb rom, then to learn how to create a kernel and to port a complete rom. After these steps I like to begin cm7 from source, but I know is really hard.
I also have to say that it is demotivating to see there aren't much developers for our phone, that we haven't ICS from Samsung and at this time we haven't a complete ICS rom, while there is a new android version so probably i never work on cm7, too old...and for this, i was thinking it was better if I took a nexus s....however i can't change phone for now, so i continue to study and develop for my W...but in future the only phone i'll buy should be a nexus or a phone with more contribute from community...
Goodbye Ali and good luck with your new phone

happy porting buddy..

i was motivated by your words Alisd, i really was serious and dreamed to learn more about android, i wanted to try what bagux was doing but i ain't got enough time for it. i was amazed and never imagined that a person whose managing software engineers also tried tweaking our W XD i'm just a beginner software engineer about 6months old on work and specialized in VB and for some reasons i can say i also am at Cobol, i was still trying to learn now despite of the schedule i have and i am starting it on making android apps for now and maybe tweaking in the future. can i ask what company are you working?
UPDATE
UPDATE
I got rid of Nexus S and bought HTC Desire S. Most of you will be wondering Why ???, a lot of reasons. if anyone have interest to know then he can PM me.
I would suggest guys not to go for Nexus S now, its not a good time, it could be debatable but its my personal opinion. All of the Roms that are available for NS are also available for DS.
At last Galaxy W is a good phone, so please stick with it till you find a better phone according to your needs.
Because I have been part of this community so I thought that I should update my community.
Thanks,
I am glad to read opinions about me, you are all wonderful people.
@irishpancake, I am really concerned about your health , please take care, and update your health status so our community can pray for you. God bless on you.
I am happy to see that Alex (from Galaxy S+) has ported MIUIv4 successfully , and I hope he will also port AOKP and other CM9 based Roms from S+ to W.

Anyone want to test my rom?

hey guys, i just modified the liquid smooth rom cause i was bored.
all credits go to the liquid team...i really didnt do anything hard, and i dont consider myself to be a real developer now.
just wondering if anyone wants to test it out to see if it works, and give some feedback.
http://www.mediafire.com/?zj1dfa69nmyewzn
Changes made:
-removal/replacement of a few apps
-build.prop changes
-changes to updater-script
-changed boot animation
Like I said, I didn't make this to make a more optimized version of liquid smooth. It's more of an experiment/attempt to learn a bit.
Thanks.
btw gapps arent included.

a few build.prop tweaks, some modification of systemui, deleted some apps and added others, changed bootanimation, and i think some other stuff that i cant remember anymore.
Not really a good way to inspire confidence in a ROM that you don't even know what you did to it...

im not really trying to promote it to everyone. i just did this as an experiment, and i just want to know if its booting ok, not force closing apps, etc. so that i know whether or not to change something.
How about you test it out yourself before asking others to risk trying it. Just a simple piece of advice.

Feedback:
Who'd want to "Test" a rom from a non-developer, when there are many that are from DEVELOPERS, not to mention the Liquid Smooth was developed by a full team. This to me infers that you are better than a team? Oh well, if you want to try peeps, go for it, but remember, it was done by someone who says he was not a developer.
like getting on a bus with a legally blind driver!
I have no understanding why anyone would!....... and "TEST"? OMG

i clearly said in my original post, that i take no credit for this, and that all credit goes to the liquid smooth team.
By test i didnt mean to go through the whole rom and check if every single thing works. Im just asking that you flash it
and let me know if it boots fine and doenst have any major issues.
like i said, im not trying to promote this as the best rom for the s3 that everyone should start using.
no need to get all pissed...it was just a simple question. If you dont want to try it, why even post?
i understand your concern guys, but blind development happens all around XDA. if this guy today had a "Recognized Developer" tag, i bet many of you would try it out. don't underestimate the OP.
that said, make sure you do understand that there is a risk since this is a blind development, although i doubt anything would go wrong since this is just something the OP took from an already working ROM for the TMO Galaxy S III and tweaked it a bit...

+1. We can do without the drama guys. The OP is doing absolutely nothing out of the ordinary by developing blind. Yes, it is always a risk for testers, which is why he posted this here looking for the willing. If you don't want to try it, please move along and stop flaming each other. :good:

Thanks. Like you said I doubt flashing this would cause any harm. All I really did was change a couple apps and replace some pics in systemui and frameworkres.
Just make a nandroid, flash the rom, let me know if it installs/boots properly, and then just restore your nandroid.
My apologies go out to the op. He did make an effort to further improve an already outstanding rom and asking for testers is KEY. It's a great start for experimenting while increasing your knowledge on the more advanced aspects of android. Will give this a try once my S3 is fully charged!

Considering that its possible to modify firmware images and inject custom malicious code, I don't see anything wrong with questioning someone's motives for putting up a ROM that they admit they don't even remember what changes were done to it. I can understand if you think you've improved upon something but without a change log or anything there isn't really any reason to test it. Being cautious is not the same as being an ass.

Everybody has a point to start. May be this is his point.
I swear if I was fan of 4.2 roms I would do it for you. But I already had too much headache with 4.2 roms.
Dont forget to ask original dev before you modify his work like this.
Gud luck ahead.
the rom has 6 downloads, however no one has given any feedback?
if anyone flashed it could you let me know if it works ok.

[Q] Where are the custom ROMs???

I was so beyond elated when I got my Galaxy Note 8 (N5110) last night... couldn't want to flash this puppy and ROM it with some Cyanogen loveliness; but to my incredible surprise, I can't find any custom ROMs that don't have the Touch Wiz crap on it. WTH? This tablet was highly rated and I know it's not abscure so I'm wondering why there's so little development on this little wonderous machine. Ideas? Links that I've missed? Winning lottery numbers? All are welcome.
instead of asking what are others plan on doibg for your tablet wouldn't it be morw productive to ask and learn how to do it yourself?
it seems rather rude to ask for someone else to donate their free time with no compensation.

There's already a few threads like this, so not sure there's a point to another one. Either way, there is CivX custom rom and kernel, but yes it's based on stock TW. Emwno is working on a cm10.1 port too, and beanstown was supposed to develop a custom rom but that has now been delayed. Hopefully he will do it though at some point in the future. Aside from that not many devs seem to have the device which is a shame because the Note 8 rocks.
nothing more annoying on XDA then someone complaining about the lack of free software...quick whining, and learn how to do it yourself, so you can spend endless hours of YOUR personal life creating something that people can post complaints about, request things that you dont put in the rom, and just generally expect you to spend all of your free time upgrading, and improving for them every time they want something..
I agree with you it does rock. Just xame from a Lenovo A2109 where there was a LARGE dev community but no support for Mac users. Thought for sure there would be a crap load of devs here given the Samsung brand and its answer to the iPad mini. Personally, I think its much getter then the mini even though I'm a Mac girl... note: not an Apple fangirl... just a best in class user.
Anyway, thanks for telling me what to look for and which developers to keep and eye out for. Its painful to read post after post and subsequently page after page trying to find answers to my questions. I do appreciate it.

For every ROM that has worked for me, I have donated monetarily. For one device, I actually BOUGHT a unit for development. I've been on this board for several years and have never asked for anything except answers to my questions.
Second of all, I'm a web designer/developer who donates LOTS of time to those who don't know or ask for help. I don't ask for compensation; I ask for them to carry the info forward. It seems rather rude for you to assume and judge rather then ask.

"puzzlement"? what are you puzzled about?
You've been a member here for SIX years; you know where the dev section is in this thread; the roms that are there are what we have at this point..
dont try to "veil" your complaint about so "little development" by saying you weren't complaining, just "asking a question"
We lose enough fantastic developers here when people start threads like this, so please don't encourage the few folks that are dev'ing for this device to leave as well..

Gentlemen please stop making personal attacks.
I am sure she knows where is the place to find a custom rom although she doesn't mean this.
So if there is nothing constructive to add in this thread then just don't post.

It seems rather rude for you to assume and judge rather then ask.

maybe I just misread your enthusiasm for the new tablet as cracking the whip on those hard working guys who do what thwy do and ask for norhing back. so If I mistook you excitement as a demand then I apologize.
the gnote 10.1 took a good while to get some dev work on it. for a good while all we had was root, which really wasn't bad at all. It's still not as active as say the s4 or gn2 development, but it still looks like qualiry work. I'd suppose it wouldn't be too hard to port a rom over, but then again what do I know, I ain't no dev.

I was under the impression you have to keep a lot of the Touch Wiz to keep the pen enabled. Otherwise it's just a generic 8" android tablet.
Thank you... I appreciate that; very much.

I was very pleased that rooting was so easy. I had to unlock the bootloader in the HTC was a flippin' pain in the arse so I was THRILLED to learn we didn't have to do that on the Samsung. So, clearly I'm very glad to have root... and have deleted a lot of the Samsung crapware as I'm sure most of us have as well. Though I do have to ask... what is a "gnote"? I had a GTab once which was actually the Viewsonic GTablet. However, I've never heard of the GNote...
I'm not a software/hardware dev either... just web... and so wish I had time to learn. I'd be all over it like a gnat on poop!

Isn't the Touch Wiz on regular non-Note Samsung devices? For example the Galaxy II & III phones? Though I am just guessing as this is my first Samsung Android device.
*smile* Thank you. However, I am a she.

Gentlemen please stop making personal attacks.
I am sure he knows where is the place to find a custom rom although he doesn't mean this.
So if there is nothing constructive to add in this thread then just don't post.
Thank you.

yep, pretty much all samsung devices, except for the nexuses and the s4 developer ed have touch wiz. the big downside of using cm or aokp is that you'll lose pressure sensitivity with your pen (or at least that's how it was a few months ago and i haven't really check up on it).
I think its fine the way it is....

CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android, or any other ROMs?

Would Cyanogen Mod be interested in developing for this phone now that we have unlocked bootloader? Given the choice, I'd love Paranoid Android, but I went hold my breath.
CM is already in development . https://github.com/CM-zenfone2
BrokenROM https://github.com/BrokenROM/device_asus_moorefield
Seems that are only for ZE551ML I hope that will be compatible with ZE550ML
If someone can get pure AOSP or CM working, the ROMs will flow out like water... once a base is established building many ROMs is easy. If we get CM, then look for ROMs like Beanstalk, BlissPop, Carbon, , etc. to follow closely behind. Patience, it will happen...

Yay! I really hope Paranoid Android follows suit. I LOVE Pa's Halo feature.
custom roms will help this phone.zenny 2 has one of the worst stock firmware optimization ever and seems like asus cant fix the problems.
Be patient guys, I just sent a couple developers phones this week.

Good to see Asus is showing commitment to this phone. Also great to see you guys are embracing the aftermarket ROM community. More vendors need to be supportive like this.
We love the enthusiast community - you guys are the ones that like to tinker and have contributed to our growth over the years when we were just a motherboard vendor. I bet many of you still have fond memories of building PCs with our components before tinkering with phones .

Awesome! Is there/will there be collaboration with the developers regarding the kernel and device tree from ASUS as well? That would be key to have a fully-working custom ROM in the nearer future (versus the developers having to learn from scratch and sort of fend for themselves, kludging their way along and delaying the end goal).
So exciting!
We post our kernel source, but that's all we can offer, unfortunately. Our software development is done at our Taiwan HQ. But if any devs need anything, just send me a PM and I'll ask our software team.

Just got one single request... Open an official outlet or distributer in Pakistan... I am buying your items off international vendors without warranties... Would love to see if I can get some support locally...

This makes not much sense to me honestly. Why locking a bootloader in the first place and then stating to push development hard by providing test phones to specified devs?
But still I want to thank you for your commitment in making this phone a huge success - we'll kick Galaxy and Xperia and the likes out once done
Good thing to see Asus sharing to make custom ROMs efficient.
Already on Harfainx's ROM, can't wait to see things going even further.

Unfortunately in only responsible for North America and have no say for any other regions.

This is my push from Technical Marketing for North America due to needs and wants for the US market. I place great emphasis on the community that has made many of the previous phones I've owned so great. I want that for the ZF2.
I'll probably start development for this phone once i get it. Never worked with an x86 android device before but it sounds like a fun challenge

Hi,
I've got some sort of situation here concerning building the kernel for ZF2 on my own. I downloaded the kernel source from ASUS website and followed the instructions one by one (download the android source code, use the appropriate toolchain, issue the kernel build command using fhd_defconfig, etc.
The phone boots and works good, BUT:
The phone never gets to deep sleep mode because of hsic_s3_wlock (kernel wakelock from USB HSIC). Could you please ask someone from the technical department to check what is causing this or if any config entry is missing? I am really starting to doubt that this is something I can influence at all
