Buggy after Firmware flash - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, ive gotten a lot of junk on my phone recently so i decided to reflash the .62 Firmware. Now, after some days of use, every STOCK app has grown buggy. Gallery not loading pics, browser has infinite loading time, and widgets doesnt work properly.
I run Doomkernel v11 if it makes a difference.
When i reboot though, everything is fixed for a day or so. After that day; the problem returns.
What should i do ? Reflash Firmware ? Get a new kernel ?
Any help is very appreciated ;-)

Get a new custom ROM that is based on stock .62 firmware like what I'm using (JokaWild ROM >>> link is on my signature). When I flashed .62 I noticed those bugs and lags quickly so I flashed custom ROM to fix those things. And now, I'm very happy overclocked at 1.4ghz max and min of 576mhz and is not a battery drainer! ftw!

If your theory was to be true, then how can it be that the stock ROM that followed with the firmware was buggy too ? (using SE Tweaked now)

Issues with custom kernels

For some odd reason I cannot flahs any custom kernels. Whenever I flash some rom, the included kernel will work just fine. But if I flash another one, like franco or matr1x, I end up in bootloop, or stucks at boot. Anyone else experienceing this behaviour?
You need to make sure you flash a kernel that is built for the version of android you are using.
For example ARHD 2.1.1 is 4.0.2 so you can not use the Matr1x v1.5 kernel because it is built for 4.0.3
Always read the OP before flashing, the info is there
Edit: messed up my version numbers
Sent from a phone that is not running ICS
I have the same problem - no matter what kernel I use or how I try to install it I have yet to find one that will work with a stock version of ICS 4.0.2 on my phone - they always freeze at the boot screen, I don't get any further.
I have indeed checked versions before flashing.

[XXLE4]Issue with custom kernel - disturbing reboots
Hi everyone,
I am facing an huge issue that make me unable to flash any custom kernel without rebooting.
I though it was because brand new XXLE4 cannot support 1k+ frequencies or may be another things than I could not have been imagine because of my poor informatic and linux knowledges but it seems that i am just unable to flash custom kernel. only the original CF-ROOT doing his job but others aren't.
May be because of the SetCPU apps but it is less sure that the origin take his effect from that apps. It is a quit anoying because I would have been set my Scary 120 - 1350 to get an impressive battery life with the brand new UC-Kernel but seems to be a mirage for me.
I had got some custom roms but I can't just use them because I want an real free-bugs ROM an official release are the only one option for me and my usual usage.
Thanks in advance for the help provided and I apologies for my bad english.

4.0.2? I believe no custom kernels support 4.0.2 anymore. Updated/latest versions of said custom kernels at least. I think franco has a 4.0.4 version of his though i'm sure very few people are on 4.0.4, 4.0.2 is just a thing of the past.

[Q]Xperia play wont recharge!

Hi guys,
Some help needed. I'm not sure why but my phone won't recharge after i mod it. everything is fine and dandy when I'm on stock ROM. Using Build .62 android 2.3.4.
I have narrowed it down to a couple of problems..
1) after rooting ( doomlords zergling rush)
2)after using doomkernel v01/02
Has anyone else come across this type of problem? I think it's a bit strange or it could be that the build has issues..
I can and have flashed back to stock rom and it's charging again. so thats not an issue. I would just like to know if there any way around having to flash back to stock every damn time i wanna charge the phone.
Sorry posted in the wrong section. Mods can you please move this to the Q & A. So so sorry.

what rom are u using??
doomkernel v1/2?? is it for ICS??
use this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176502 for your gingerbread
Why are you using DooMKernel v1 or v2? Use v13 3013. Just a hunch, but a kernel that was outdated almost right after it appeared could be the problem.

[Q] Why flash custom ROMs?

What are the pros and cons of flashing a new ROM? And is it buggier than the stock ROM that are already flashed into our phones? And whats the best ROM out there for the xperia play?
These questions are despised by some people XD
I advise you google these questions!

Just googled it and found out why you should flash ROMs. Im planning to flash a ROM and also overclock my phone. Whats the best ROM out there for the xperia play which is fully functional (e.g. camera works, 3d data works etc) and resembles a little bit to ICS. Also, is it possible for me to get GB 2.3.7 as a cusom rom (i think thats the latest GB).

I recommend you JokaWild v3 Rom with DooMKerneL... I think that it is the best rom for the XPERIA Play for now. Smooth ,fast ,bugfree and very stable.
Ive had a look on a few roms and it came down to this:
JokaWild v3
OR
TrueAncestor
Will I be able to overclock using this ROM and DL's kernal?

You will need to flash FW 0.62 and custom kernel with root before installing the JokaWild rom. Everything works great ,no bugs! I replaced the theme of the rom to Gin2Ics - very nice.
so basically this is what I have to do. (currently, my phone is on .42, rooted and has cwm installed).
1) unlock bootloader
2) flash .62 Rom
3) get a custom kernal. Can I put DL's kernal? If yes, which one?
4) Flash jokawild using cwm
is that it?
Yep ,all good. You can use v14 ,works great with the JW. Don't forget to flash the wifi modules for this kernel ,very important if you want to remain you wifi/3G.
how would i back up my current stock rom? And will my contacts/messages etc be deleted or only the apps will be deleted when i flash a new rom and kernal?
Also, ive tried looking for the .62 and the kernal but couldnt find it. Could someone post a link. Thanks.
And will the widgets that came with the xperia s ui work on the joka wild rom? (eg the weather widget? )
I think I may have founded the files:
So I download the .62 stock rom = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406589
and then download this kernal = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406589
then flash jokawild v3?
0.62 FW = http://www.mediafire.com/?ytpsh7yay394b7p
DooMKerneL v14 = http://bit.ly/play_dk_14
Wifi Modules = http://d-h.st/JBM
JokaWild v3 Rom = http://www.mediafire.com/?xzvt84s6vy388tk
flash the FW via flashtool
unlock the BL
flash DooMKerneL V14
flash via CWM the WIFI modules
wipe data/factory reset via CWM
flash via CWM JokaWild v3 Rom
Thank you so much. i'll just download those files and then hopefully my phone will be running jokawild v3. (Btw can anybody post screenshots of the ui of jokawild. Ive only managed to find 2 screenshots and their only in the settings menu)..

In my opinion ,the stock theme of the rom isn't so much pretty... I'm using Gin2Ics theme with this rom ,very pretty and looks great.
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?sjfn5q7bltlazl4
im currently flashing the .62 fw now using flashtool but its been on 13% for about 20 minutes, is this normal?
its now been over 2 hours and now its on 19%. How long does this take? Is there any way to pause/stop it instead of plugging the phone out?
Ffinally I have flashed the .62 fw !!!
Now theres another problem, I need root to have cwm in order to flash the ROM and kernels. I tried using ginger break and the superoneclick method and it doesn't work although I heard you cant root on a .62 fw ... If this is the case then how did u get jokawild running ???

Samsung Galaxy 551 very dark screen bug

Hi,
I've purchased a a Samsung Galaxy 551 (I5510) (Middle east region) about a year ago and i was running android 2.2 fine for a while. When the Gingerbread 2.3 update came out i tried installing a European ROM because the ME ROMs weren't updated, it worked fine but had a weird glitch that if the screen was off (phone still working) for a while it would be very dark when turned on afterwards, it looked like this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kwll8ZfgaD0
P.S. I didn't make the video, just linking it because its the same issue
it would randomly work again after a couple of lock-screen off-unlock cycles, then happen again randomly when it's off
I tried a number of GB ROMs (mostly 2.3.4) but to no avail, then finally the latest EU ROMs (I5510XWKPJ) fixed the problem, nowhere to be seen anymore.
After that i tried installing Cyanogen mod for the phone and the problem came back with different degrees:
1. Cyanogen 7 - normal boot, screen gets dark after being off for a while.
2. Cyanogen 9,10 - show Samsung logo at start, screen gets dark as soon as the cyanogen logo appears and continues to be
Any help on what would be causing that especially on the newer CM builds? and why it doesn't happen at all in (I5510XWKPJ)
Thanks in advance,
use stock gb rom XEO-KPG from here...u find no bug in it....install as one pakage through odin...
http://galaxy551.wordpress.com/2011/12/20/new-stock-rom-xeo-kpg/
I will give it a try, though i have to clarify and say that on the current stock rom that i'm using (I5510XWKPJ) the problem doesn't happen. It only happens after i flash Cyanogenmod (any version) and persists till i reflash the Stock rom then it disappears again.
EDIT: Forgot to add that this isn't a CM specific bug as it happened also when i tried other roms too (Arkas, Miui,...)
You cannot say that this is a bug bcaz no other mamber of galaxy 551 and even me also not have this kind of problem....
So I think its problem of ur phone...
Sent from my GT-I5510 using xda premium
No change after installing (XEO-KPG) stock rom, the rom itself works fine with no problems, same as the (XWKPJ) I've been using. but as soon as i install CM the bug rears it's ugly head.

The reason i think it's a bug because it happens across lots of custom roms (which rules a rom being the cause) and it never happens when using the 2.3.6 stock roms. And on the custom roms it only happens after the screen has been off for a while, if i set the screen to never turn off for instance it never happens, but that butchers battery life.
IMO it might be a display driver issue, but since i have no experience with it i came here to get some help
Bump, any help would be appreciated.

[Q] Any other solution other than reverting back to 4.1.2 for lag issue ?

I am fed up with the lag issue in this GRAND duos. tried all these methods
(1) reverting back to amf7
(2) flashing bna4
(3) flashing ubmk3
(4) disbaled stock gallery app
(5) disabled as many as possible official apps....
All the solutions proved to be just temporary. After 24 hours to 4 days it starts lagging again. Now I am sick of flashing firmwares.
My phone is under warranty up to 19 April. If I go to service center and ask for replacement of motherboard/phone, will they replace just on the complain "my this phone hangs a lot. I have googled and found that many users have flashed other firmwares yet phones lag. These users say that this problem has no solution but replacement of motherboard?" (I cannot tell them that I have flashed other firmwares myself).
If any user with same problem has flashed custom ROM, please share your experience.
Bro, though I've never flashed a custom rom on my grand , but my Grand is rooted and I've flashed a lot of mods on it , but my Grand never lags . It is very fast and buttery smooth . I want to ask you that wether you directly started flashing custom roms on your galaxy grand or in the beginning you just rooted and flashed some mods like me ?
@MohdGhufran
From what date is your last stock ROM?
I'm having the same problem. But I've used the CM11 on another occasion and did not face any problem. Then I went back to Stock and updated the same last week.
The phone was very bad (lag). So I returned to the CM11, but the lag continues.
I'll try an earlier stock and after the CM11.
I'll post the result here.
(Sorry for my English by Google)
@Mohdgufran - I agree... I m running umbmk1 ... after 3 to 4 days with out restart the phone starts to lag...
The only solution temporarily is to clear the ram in task manager...
Stay wid 4.2.2 and use a ram cleaner (it sucks a bit battery but its the only possible non technical solution)

it is not like that stock ROMs are not good. It is just a problem with Galaxy Grand Duos. I had rooted my Galaxy R and Galaxy S Advance and had flashed Custom ROMs. All the custom ROMs had some limitations / missing features (like USB PC connection, wifi tethering, USB tethering, etc). This is why I do not want to flash any custom ROM on Galaxy Grand.

I solved my problem by not installing facebook and twitter as well as also installed battery saver pro which kills apps running in background for every five minutes..
