Built-in aptX lossless audio compression Bluetooth

I have learnt that this new cell phone is equipped with this hi-fi codec like S3. Is there any S3 experience of this feature shared? Any recommended BT headphones to match this feature?

I use my HS3000 with my S3 (and One X before it). Cheap, has Apt-X, versatile since you can use whatever IEMs/headphones you want with it or connect it to stereos/speakers etc.

Your headphones must also be compatible with Apt-X, otherwise, it employs normal BT protocol. The BT device and BT earphones or speakers must all have Apt-X to make it work.

Did you even look up the HS3000 before writing that?
It HAS Apt-X, you can connect whatever headphones you like to it and you will be enjoying Apt-X sound because the HS3000 as the receiver has Apt-X.

Did you mean Apt-X does not help improving the sound quality via BT? Or the Samsung devices are not good in Apt-X. In principle, BT with Apt-X should be better than without one.

Listen to the Nokia BH-610 Essence. In ear BT, passive and active noise cancellation, apt-x, nfc. Spec wise I don't think there's anything out there to beat it.

I use the HS3000 also and it has aptX. Sound quality is excellent. Plus it's a very affordable blue tooth receiver with aptX codec.

In terms of output volume, are any BT 'phones or adaptors like these noted for being more powerful than the others? I.e. do any have good built in amps?

Apt x Bluetooth receiver HTC bh s600

Anybody ever use this? Know anything about it? I couldn't find much info on it. When I called HTC they said I had to call internationally to get any info on it. It looks like the best deal. For the price about 64 US dollars with shipping(if my math is correct). Buy the way there is a video of it on YouTube of someone using it to take pictures with there one x. I just want to know if this will work with our Samsung. I don't really care if the camera thing doesn't work. I just want to use it in my cars auxiliary port.

I was on this quest before for my audio system, I spent hours researching apt-x and compatable recievers (and wondering in my mind why such a great technology has not been more widely implemented), I ended up buying this on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-HS3000-Clip-On-Bluetooth-Stereo-Headset-Headphones-/251003339582
Samsung discontinued it, and it was like $30 last year, but considering the availability of apt-x compatable recievers in the united states (for some reason, Europe has way more) and the amount of time other people have spent using the HS3000 and giving positive feedback, its safe to say that $50 is not that bad.

I've read that the HTC is "clunky" to use. With an HTC phone, it supposedly is easier for it to connect and use. But with Samsung there were connection issues, as in it would connect but you had to fiddle with it every time you wanted to use it.
Those were just reviews I read though. I have no personal experience with it.

i have the sony mw600 and the samsung hs3000. I even wrote a review about a couple of weeks ago. The mw600 doesn't have apt-x but can go a lot louder then the hs3000.

Thanks for the reply. I have been looking at the hs 3000. In fact I called samsung and they told me they discontinued it. So I was trying to look for a newer better product but I cant find one. So I may end up getting it anyway.

You should wait if you can. Sony showed the SBH-20 bluetooth headset adapter. Similar to the mw6000 and hs3000. Going to order it when they ship. Should be in February or March.

Thanks for this. I was also considering the HS3000 but this looks like a contender.
However, the reason I wanted the Samsung is because of apt-x which I do not see listed under the Sony's specs.

I have both the mw6000 and hs3000. And the sound qualiry is a little bit better then the sony one but sony does go a lot louder then the samsung one. But the controls on the sony suck but you can disable the phone calling button on the device. You can't do that on the samsung. Very annoying. I would accidently press it and it will call the last person you called. I switched back to the sony because of that.

anyone use the BH S600?
ive purchased the samsung hs3000 and i am using it with shure in-ear-headphones, but the quality is worse than the the direct connection per wire(of course, it is better than another bluetooth headset, which is using the SBC-codec).
so i am now thinking about the HTC BH S600?

It happened to be I having both stereo bluetooth unit too. In fact I still having Moto S705 and i.Tech 803 before.
Yes Sony MW600 tend to have higher output, but it's also still exhibiting Sony typical V-shape, rough and Hi-Fi sound.
To me pairing Samsung HS3000 with Samsung Galaxy S3/Note2, the default Music Player provide are much better sounding than any 3rd party player under default Nomral EQ setting both on the cellphone and the bluetooth unit. They are by far the most cleanness, livelier and better sounds separation MP3 playback I've heard so far, when side-by-side comparing to Motorola S705, Sony MW600 with the my TDK-200 IEM, and I've remebered i.Tech 803 with Sony MDR-EX500SL did not sounded this good too.
The much better sounding I've think most probably was because the S3/Note2 default Music Player was streaming the audio with aptX codec. Switching to any other 3rd party music players, they did not sounded as clean and livelier. And of course aptX not necessary mean better sound, but in HS3000 case it is.
My impression of Sony stereo BT unit, as with my older Sony MW600, it just sounded so rough when side-by-side comparison to Samsung HS3000. Even i.Tech MC803 and Motorola S705 sounded cleaner than MW600. Maybe I put it this way, my impression about Sony BT was they always sounded too Hi-Fi to me as I've always prefer better musical sounding device.
Btw, even though HS3000 output was around 3dB lower than Sony MW600, but it is still loud enough most of the with time, even with low volume CD directly rip to MP3 or FLAC without boosting volume by 150%.

noise cancellation
I just received a Sony SBH20 in the mail today...
pretty impressed overall. quality is excellent and the NFC capability to pair is pretty rad (though if i'm being honest, once you pair it's not that useful)
However the noise cancellation is non existant...
I'm wondering about the HTC now, if the noise cancellation is any better? Does anyone have the HTC BH S600? Ideally I would connect it into my car speaker - which is not possible with the Sony SBH20.

Wired Headset Recommendation

Well I have given up on wireless headsets and am looking for a quality wired headset for my HTC One.
I make quite a few calls and occasionally listen to music.
I am tossing up between a more mp3 audio headset such as the Klipsch Image S4 and the more call orientated Plantronics MX500.
Can anyone recommend a good quality headset with inbuilt microphone?

Out of those two, Id definitely go Klipsch. Ive always liked their products. I do use a Plantronics bluetooth for calls, but ive not used any of their products that Id rave about for music quality (Ive not used the MX500 though).

My gut says similar. The wireless headsets I have used are Plantronics Legend so have some exposure.
I listen to music probably 5-10% of the time though so the ability to play music is secondary.
My impression is that the wired call centre headsets have not been updated in a long time and are outdated.

Oh, i didnt even notice that you had said calls were the primary use. lol The Bluetooth i use is the Voyager Legend as well. I really like it a lot for calls, but it's definitely not for audiophiles

My experiences with the legend were less than pleasant.
I was getting the problem of chronic interference when talking on a cell phone but reasonably clear talking on skype. I could never get to the bottom of it. I am using the headset that came with the phone but looking for something that is a step up in quality.

Anyone got an additional take on this or should I consider giving bluetooth another try?

Usually they have sales and anything with an "m" after the name (example: J4m, J.Fi.m) are "mobile phone" headsets that have the mic and button integrated into the right cable. Right now I am using a J4m (that I got for 5 bucks in a grab bag), it is incredibly rugged.
Have been using Jlabs earbuds for years and they are some of the best sound (until you get into the 100-200 dollar range) I have heard out of an earbud. Also just bought the crasher bluetooth speakers.

Cant go wrong with Bowers & Wilkins, c5 model inline mic works with the one

So I made the mistake of getting another Voyager Legend.
Tried all of the following and had no success.
Ordering a JLabAudio tomorrow
1.) Wifi on and off
2.) Disabling wireless from the router itself
3.) Scanning wifi connections using inSSIDer
4.) Switching handsets to my wife's Samsung
5.) Using another Plantronics Legend
6.) Re paring device several times

[Review] HTC Bluetooth 3.0 Stereo Headphones (BH- S600) Uncompressed Audio

Hello guys​
The purpose of this post is to share with you guys my recent purchase The HTC Bluettoh 3.0 Stereo Headphones. These are the official ones from HTC made for our phones. Those with Sense 4.0 and above and phones with Bluetooth 3.0 and above. What makes these different from other bluetooth heaphones is the fact that they use Bluetooth 3.0 which is a huge advancement meant from Bluetooth v2.1 Enhanced Data Rate. This newer version allows more data to be transferred at a time (wider bandwidth) and HTC has taken advantage of this by providing uncompressed audio with these bluetooth heaphones. The sound quality is so much better. v3.0 is more battery efficient as well than the previous generation. The bluetooth headphone clip allows you to use your own headphones as well!

HTC One series and galaxy s3 are the ones that pops into my mind. Others (the ones that don't have apt-x) will sound like Bluetooth 2.1 edr no mather which version of Bluetooth they use.

Are you suggesting that these sound crisp and clean? I only ask because I stream music via bluetooth quite a bit whether it be to my Yamaha receiver or my head unit in my truck and because of the low bitpool setting in Sense I get a lot of crackling on the high end. AOSP this is not an issue. Only in Sense.
So my question is...How if HTC hasn't fixed the bluetooth bitpool issue in the software can any bluetooth device stream the high quality?

Thanks you very much news, I think his headphones low dive deep, clean and full, flexible and intensity, slow feeling. Good high frequency extension, delicate and supple and housing design is also very good

You can actually use any headsets for jogging and especially walking. Just depends how much wire and bulk you are willing to put up with. Personally, I have the LG Tone+ headset. They sound great and dont make you feel like you are tied to something. They are actually a very practical setup. Any way. Those are my thoughts.

The mic is not built in onto the bluetooth device, your earphones will have to have a mic

it's uncompressed but who cares? it seems those use apt-x lossless codec.

I picked up one of these on the back of this review, and I have to say, I'm really impressed. I got i it mainly for running with, but I've found myself just using it for everything. In the car, at work, - the battery life is really good, and the drain on the phone really in negligible.
My one complaint... I nearly lost my phone in the gym, cause I left it at the rower I was using, but the range is so good ( around 20m without any loss of audio ) I ended up having to backtrack my whole circuit to find it

I cannot believe they did not include a mic in the clip. It really limits your use of alternative headphones/earphones.

It does have a mic in the clip, can't post a link so check the HTC website for details.

I have this as well. I have to say that for a BT tranceiver, it impresses me so much. My only complain is that I can't really monitor the battery capacity in this thing. But at least it will notify me with that robotic female voice that my "battery is low". However, battery life is good.
I use it when I'm travelling because I don't really like brandishing my One in public transport (it's very unsafe to show off your phone here in Indonesia) as it allows me to control my music wirelessly.
I pair this to some other devices as well, like my laptop so that I can use my hifi system to amplify my laptop using aux cable. I don't use the aux cable directly because it's too far to where I usually sit and enjoy my movies.
All in all, I am satisfied with this product.

Because of that sentence, I have bought this device. But NO, it doesn't have the mic in the clip.
Now I am sad and angry I didn't go for a Sony or Samsung.
I have a MW600 at home, which worked perfectly, but last month the clip lost the suspension thingy so I cannot clip it to my shirt anymore... And that's why I decided to buy this one.
But bummer, you cannot use any headphones. You must pick the ones that have the microphone on. And hence, the device is not useful for other stuff, like in-car use and such...
Otherwise, sound is good, can connect to my mac and phone at the same time and can charge it while using it. Really a shame HTC did not put a mic on the clip...
I had these other bluetooth headphones in mind:
1) Sony SBH20
2) Samsung HS3000
and of course
3) Sony MW600

Can you post if any other aftermarket headphones with mics and preferably ear clips or dome speakers that are compatible with this bluetooth device? Maybe if you have others from friends try them and let us know. For now will be considering the other devices you listed for my HTC One.

I am pretty sure any headphone with a built in mike will work.

I have waterproof earphones by Monster designed for iOS and they work perfectly with the bluetooth clip. Any Headphones/ earphones will work with this as long as they have a 3.5mm jack. Of those headphones have a play pause button on the centre it will work as well. The other buttons may not

I've had these things since February(a nice gift from HTC) and I love it. I don't use it as headphones though when I'm home. I have an aux cable going into my surround sound and I have hooked the Bluetooth dongle onto that Aux cable. Streaming the music crisply, clearly, and perfectly through my system.

HTC 10 Audio Thread

Hi all,
Just wanted to put a thread together to talk around the audio capabilities of the HTC 10. From what I can see, the audio is split up into a couple of different areas:
1) Good quality internal hardware (DAC and separate amps for speakers and earphone),
2) Powerful two way speaker setup,
3) Better than normal earphones to take advantage of the hardware, and
4) Good quality software with the Personal Audio Profile System.
5) There is also Airplay support for those with 3rd party airplay speakers.
What hardware are people currently using (earphones, headphones, portable amps, portable usb DAC's)? When the phone is released, it will be good to get peoples impressions and reviews. Also to understand how different hardware affects those experiences (ie. different earphones work better or worse with this phone)??? Also, could this phone be good enough to take you away from dedicated hardware you might have (proper portable music players)?
One thing that I have noted which I haven't seen noted anywhere else is the Personal Audio Profile System being the same as what Aumeo has/is coming out with with their device (click here).
I personally have a couple of pairs of AKG over ear headphones and a pair of Flare R2Pro in-ear phones. Once I get my HTC, I will compare them with the hi-res ear-phones they come with and share my thoughts.
Open questions:
1) What DAC's are being used? What is inbuilt from Qualcomm or specialist 3rd party hardware?
2) What type of 3.5mm connector is being used (AHJ or OMTP), we believe AHJ based on previous HTC phones but could do with confirming)

From what I can see, the audio is split up into a couple of different areas: 1) Good quality internal hardware (DAC and separate amps for speakers and earphone), 2) Powerful two way speaker setup, 3) better than normal earphones to take advantage of the hardware, and 4) Good quality software with the Personal Audio Profile System. Over these, there is the point that it works with Airplay which has a lot of support in terms of the 3rd party speaker market.
Just curious to see how people feel about the Audio capabilities of the 10 and whether that might be enough to take you away from dedicated hardware if you current use that?
One thing that I have noted which I haven't seen noted anywhere else is the Personal Audio Profile System being the same as what Aumeo has/is coming out with with their device (click here).
I currently have a couple of AKG over ears which I can't drive directly from my LG G4 without having a portable amp in the middle. I also have a pair of Flare R2Pro in ear phones that are quite hard to drive. Can't wait to test these out with the 10 when it comes out!!!

The 10 recognizes that you have plugged (wired) earphones into the jack and offers you two options for customization, a 'quick question' method and a more detailed method that requires listening to tones on left then right in different frequency ranges. You then have the option to 'save' the audio profile for those earphones. If you plug a different set of earphones in, the device recognizes it and offers you to use the existing profile or create a new one (you can store multiple profiles). This does not work with BT earphones, by the way.
The sound is superior to anything I've ever heard on any audio device. It can make cheap earphones sound good (although I recommend at least midrange earphones), and with decent earphones (I use a Shure pair) it's terrific.

That's awesome news that it does this for wired earphones!
Which pair of Shure earphones do you use? And other than these headphones, have you had a chance to try them with any other different sets of earphones?? Have you had a chance to try them with any over ear headphones, ones that might be harder to drive?
Whilst I have your attention. Have you had a play around with different audio formats / qualities? MP3 vs 24bit FLAC to see how much of a difference this makes on this setup?

I don't drive with earphones on (that's illegal here).
I have used the Personal Audio Profiles on 3 different pairs of earphones; a test set supplied with the test phone, Shure e3c's and an over-the-ear Audio-Technica pair. The Shure's and the test earphones are the best. The test earphones are my current daily (and may well be what comes in the box for some models, but I don't know because they don't tell us).

How do the speakers sound? As good as HTC One M7/8/9? Better?

Sorry, to clarify when I say 'harder to drive' I mean over ear headphones that have a higher impedance. In this case, on other less powerful music players (or other phones), the headphones sound quiet even at max volume.

Trying to find out if it will have aptx hd enabled but no info. Also air play to aiport to dac should sound pretty decent

Now that the embargo has lifted, I presume we will start seeing more in depth reviews and those should hopefully include more detailed audio tests.
I use a fiio e12 to amp my current phone (LG G4). Nothing fancy but pretty sure the HTC 10 will do much better than that setup now. :victory:

I am curious about this too as i will be buying the new lg bluetooth headset.

Me too! I own a pair of mid-to-top range RHA T10 and I am really anticipating how these will sound with the HTC 10. I am a audiophile and the sound quality is really important to me.

My last two phone's have been the HTC M8 and LG G4. I have found that I use my phone less for music now that I'm using the G4 than the M8 and its because I just enjoy it less. Can't wait to hear how these sound with a good pair of earphones.

Then i'll know if I can use the inline controls of my RHA T20i's as currently with my HTC m8.
Edit: Btw - I strongly advise using the Neutron app if you want high-end music. Already supports FLAC but last update also added DSD support for the SACD fanatics

Why on EARTH is there more than one? This would be standardized now days like USB...

Is the audio upconversion/upsampling BS something that can be disabled from settings?

I am happy with the sound quality of the 10 through the speakers as well as through the jack

What type of DAC is in the HTC 10? Because just amping the Qualcomm native DAC won't result in clean awesome audio, just louder. I'm hoping is cirrus/Wolfson or Ess Sabre premium DAC's
