Flash Superuser (Link)

I tried flashing su.zip and it works, however apps are not asking for root permission anymore. Instead they just freeze or say they can't run privileged commands
EDIT: adfree for example will just run as if nothing was wrong, but it doesn't actually update the hostfile, and Superuser doesn't show AdFree in the list of apps
It just seems as if none of the apps are asking for superuser permissions anymore.

Try to clear data and cache from SU. Are you sure you flashed the latest version? See link? If that does not help maybe delete and reinstall.

I finally fixed, you were right, it was an older version. I went on the superuser website and got this version: Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
I would post a link but I don't have enough posts.
Flashed in recovery and it works now.
thanks

When you say flash, do you mean through CWM? And if so could I flash a temp CWM so I can just flash this?

How do I 'flash'

with Clockworkmod recovery

I tried to flash through cwm su.zip and gave an error, something with 0 . How do I do it manually?

I tried to install latest version of Super user, but i get error status 0 in CWM.. Help please

How to install cwm recovery? I just flashed my nexus with stock 4.0.4 and flash this kernel..

Check my sig, kids.
Make sure to follow gsm/cdma downloads and you'll be butter.

OK I'm not sure which update broke my root, but I am on IMM67I
I noticed too that in the superuser app there were no requests, and when going into a terminal and typing su I get 'permission denied'.
First port of call was superboot v4.. that hung at the google screen. Then I temp booted CWM and flashed su_ICS_GN.zip...
Once booted still no access in terminal (permission denied), so I deleted su and superuser.apk (how? Surely I need su to delete these?), then flashed again.. exactly the same.
Downloaded the linked file above and got:
Error in Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
(status 0)
installation aborted
Incidentally, this is the same version of su that is in su_ICS_GN.zip
When going into superuser and trying to update the binary, it says 'cant get root'..
Downloaded just the binary only and get exactly the same as above (installation aborted). Looked at the update_script and cannot see anything wrong....
I've just tried to boot an unsecure image so I can push the new su binary.... stuck at the Google screen...
Very confused...
---------- Post added at 10:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:45 AM ----------
OK I used the 'Galaxy Nexus Toolkit' which must have an updated insecure image I guess to push the right su binary..
I had to manually get it into bootloader mode as it didnt reboot (even though it detected the phone at adb).... and then the script continued OK..

OTA update failed

This morning I excitedly got a notification to update to 4.02. Installing update failed when phone rebooted to recovery and I got a red exclamation mark over the little Android.
My phone has been rooted with CMW installed. I know I lot of you will be thinking "just flash a different ROM" but the truth is I don't like any of the Roms currently available.
Did my update fail because of CWM? Or am I making a super noob mistake? Please help

yes CWM will cause update to fail the install. Flash the stock recovery img through fastboot if you want OTA's
---------- Post added at 03:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:05 AM ----------
download the stock system image files from google and extact it to find the recovery.img
- copy the recovery.img file to the directory that contains your fastboot utility
- start-up a terminal/command session
- put your phone into fastboot / bootloader mode
- type the following fastboot command to flash the stock recovery:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Thank you very much, i had the same problem this morning, the update disappeared so will it get back when i flash the recovery?
plus my launcher is modified will it affect the update?
it should come back if you check for updates in the system menu. If not it might take a few days to show back up from what I have heard. The launcher will not effect OTA's.
Please hit the thanks button if I helped
having this issue
I am having this issue also, but I didn't flash cwm into my phone, I only fastboot it, will this also cause this problem, or because I rooted my phone and on locked it, really need help.

It won't work because you are rooted. The install looks for the stock bootloader. You don't have the stock bootloader because you rooted.

You are WRONG. Stop telling people wrong info. CWM is what caused the failure. Root doesn't mean you changed your bootloader.

Yeah apologies! I got my wires crossed. Thanks for clearing it up for me. I wasn't sure if it was the bootloader or the custom recovery. Thanks again and sorry for misleading anyone.
reply
thanks for reply, but as I said, I didn't flash CWM into my phone, I just boot it, in this case, it will also making this problem?
So, to clear this up for noobs (like me!)
If I root my Nexus, but keep it all stock, will I still get OTA updates?
If so, will an OTA update remove the root?
Thanks
The update won't work because you will be using a different recovery when you root. So the update does not install at all.
However the benefits of rooting will allow you to have the latest Google updates thanks to the hard work of devs here. So root and get romming!!!

If you just root the Phone and keep it complete stock (including Stock recovery, so not CWM) then OTA should work. I'm not sure about removing root though but I guess the OTA would not remove root. And if it does: It is easy to re-root isn't it?
The OTA should work if you didn't install CWM recovery or something like flashing a different radio. It removes root but you can easily re-root. I have not received 4.0.2 yet but when I received the volume fix update OTA I did not have any issues with it even though I was rooted. I just had to re-root after the update.

[Q] Can you root ICS4.04?

Hi all,
Bit of a noob query, apologies.
I had never rooted a device until last night when I took the plunge with WugFresh's (thankyou so much) program. Great program had an issue with the adb drivers (turned out I needed more power for the USB port) hence I plugged the USB into the rear port and it magically appeared and installed, thus if you have problems installing the driver make sure you are plugged into the rear.
But I am now on the 4.04 google factory flash.
Now my query is, now I am on this 4.04, I presume I am no longer rooted. Can I use WugFresh's program to root the phone again or do I have to wait for another update to the program?
I was rather twitchy during rooting, expecting power cuts across the UK, earth tremor to knock the lead out at the wrong time, aliens to come down and screw it up etc that I dare not try it (don't really understand what I did even though it has worked)...
There is a program on now called superuser, but does not seem to have root access, so I presume I am not rooted now??
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Darren
I did refer to a guide but can't post the link to it.
this is why you don't use toolkits... when you use them you dont know what's going on.
fastboot oem unlock (bootloader unlocked already?)
fastboot flash recovery <get clockwork recovery img>
get su.zip (find it on forum)
flash it in clockwork
you have root.
alternatively, you can flash a custom rom.

Yip, I can agree with the statement, I don't know what was happening.
However, I could follow some of it, I think the bootloader is unlocked (can boot into with vol and off switch), I have clockwork and su, the installer did flash with clockwork.
Wonder if I am indeed rooted then???

When you boot the phone is there an unlocked lock at the bottom of the Google screen? That means your bootloader is unlocked. You can always get into the bootloader using the volume buttons and power.
Once again...using toolkits suck. Now you're stuck in limbo. Try installing an app that needs root like Titanium Backup and see if it works.

If you see a superuser app in your app drawer then you have a proper root. If not then something went wrong.
Hi guys, just curious but is there anyway to gain root temporarily in 4.0.4 without unlocking bootloader? Similar to the escalation of privileges hack that worked on 4.0.1/4.0.2.
I want to remove the /system/bin/su and /system/app/Superuser.apk files on the device to get rid of the "Unsupported Device" warning in Google Wallet.
Thanks in advance.

This is not entirely true. You can have the Superuser app in your app drawer and still not have root. The permissions on su need to be set properly.

[Q] Rooting on 4.3

Hello all,
I recently got my hands on a Note 2 running Android 4.3 on the MK6 bootloader. I have done a bit of research, but am still somewhat confused about how to root the phone. If I am correct, I just use Odin to flash this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589891
Onto the phone to have root access, correct?
Next, if I want to have CWM, I flash this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159652
If there are any steps I am missing, please let me know. I would like to procede with as much knowledge as possible to avoid bricking the phone. I am aware that doing this will trip the Knox e-fuse, and I am ok with that.
Thanks in advance!

So, today I tried to root my phone, and as soon as I was finished flashing CF Auto Root, Knox blocked the root and said that "Unauthorized access to a secured area has been blocked."
Does that mean I cannot root my phone?

Superuser installation issues after installing over SuperSU
It seems SuperSU is writing a file that is confusing Superuser installation on stock builds. If you want to install Superuser over SuperSU, you will need to manually remove the /system/etc/.has_su_daemon file.
I have the /system/etc/.has_su_daemon file.l I'm creating a CWM zip to remove it.
Hopefully that's the solution.

But I did kick it's a$$.
Like I said earlier I running the 【ROM】【March 01】【4.3】Note2_lte_e250_R7. 2 . It's a N7105 port for the ATT.
So I knew there was something called a Multitool in the N7105 threads from Dr Ketan.
I flashed that in TWRP, it's an aroma install type flash, so I only choose Root and install Busybox.
Like all of our other flash installs it looked like it completed successfully.
Every flash or ODIN I've done or most today, I've gotten into adb shell and did
ls -l /system/xbin/su. never saw the file.
After flashing root and busybox I finally saw
[email protected]:/ $ ls -l /system/xbin/su
-rwxr-xr-x root root 100452 2008-08-01 05:00 su
Woo Hoo !
Got into phone, ran supersu, still said no binary.
Not sure why I did this really buy I typed su while in adb shell, Supersu window popped up on my phone, I clicked accept and all root stuff is working.
I have no clue why this worked. But it did, for me anyways. Hopefully it'll work for you, Luigi.

And it wasn't ..... I created a flashable zip that deleted them and it didn't work.

Thanks for all the info!
So, let me get this straight:
I don't need the ROM you're running on my phone. What I should do is find the Multitool, flash it via recovery, and root and Busybox. Then, connect my phone to my computer to run adb (which I don't really know how to do, so I'll have to look that up), type in su, and then from there everything should work as normal.
Also, an extra piece of information I forgot to mention earlier that you might find useful: SuperSU does NOT start at all; it just immediately closes when I click the icon, and then the Knox warning comes up. Did this happen for you?

Really have no clue. All I know is it worked for me.
For me SuperSU opened all he way. It told me I didn't have the su binary, do a manually install. Everything I did, did not work until my last post. 99% sure it will work for you.
For ADB use this....
http://four-nineteen.com/veronica/XDA Developers/Nook Tablet/DRIVERs/ADB + Fastboot + Drivers.zip
Unzip and save only the files that start with ADB. Create a directory like ADB under C:\.
Copy all the ADB files to C\ADB
Go to command prompt in windows, cd to c:\adb directory (whatever you created)
Type adb devices. Make sure it has a device listed
C:\xUltimate-v2.4.2\jar>adb devices
List of devices attached
8675309JennieJennie device
If so, type adb shell
C:\xUltimate-v2.4.2\jar>adb shell

Just found something else that works.... I've tried it also.
Flash the AGNI kernel. (Awesome addition to a ROM)
https://app.box.com/s/9wlk6y1o50gbhmhvjp2u
Credit to @mjohnson4580 for fix.
Then flash the root update.
http://download.chainfire.eu/382/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.93.zip
See what that does.
Here's info in the kernel

Someone if you know and tested it, can I root my htc one m8 device having the new firmware updated 5.0.1 lolipop??
Please anwser and if there is a way please send a link
THANKS A LOTTT!!
It's exactly the same as before.
Look for how do I root here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711073
You unlock bootloader. Flash a custom recovery... I suggest twrp. It will ask you when you exit if you want to root. Say yes.
Boot into android, install supersu if it or superuser aren't there already. (from play store)
Or just flash recovery . Install a rom , likely rooted already.

thanks for that but when I did it in my phone it says su binary out of date! what can I do now?
Can you explain everything you did, beginning to end. And exactly when/where you get that message?
I had already TWRP in my phone so I download your files. Opened the recovery and I did from there (install). When it finished rebooted the device and after that when i did a root check it said root access not properly install or sometihing

This ^^^^
If it asks to update with a "normal" and "twrp/cwm" option... Try normal first. The other option if that doesn't work.

I tried the normal it didnt work, how I do the second, I pressed it but nothing happened!
I don't think you have twrp installed anymore, or not properly. You've flashed it with fastboot, since updating to lollipop? How did you update to lollipop?
Normal, I never had root before. Upgraded my phone to 5.0 and then i tried to root it
Rooted fine here with normal method. Just had to update super su.
OK, can you please walk us through exactly what steps to Root you took. From the beginning. And we'll see what happened.
?
i havent been able to find the option to disable fast boot so i havent even tried yet but if anyone has let me know

You need to be rooted before you flash TWRP. Have you already gone through the steps to root your phone?

You may be confusing flashing supersu in a custom recovery, with rooting your phone. There are a number of steps you have to go through before you can gain root on the Verizon Note 4. Flashing a custom recovery will not root your phone. You have to first follow the steps here, before you can flash a custom recovery, then flash supersu, in order to gain access to your root.

Try flashing the supersu zip in your custom recovery, instead of installing it through the app store. You also have an N910F, this thread is for N910V. You'd probably get a more accurate response if you posted to the N910F thread.

Manually flash SuperSU 2.79 (or later) if you are prior to 7.0.1 at this point systemless root becomes necessary .....and I don't know man . I have it working on 7.1.1 but it came loaded I didn't have to install ....hmmmm I'd start at chain fires web site see what he says . ignore anything involving cfauto root unless u achieved root by this means in which case u r in the wrong forum

When you flash supersu it does install app and binary  see if u got to the point u could flash from twrp it would signify you are on unlocked boot loader. Without unlocking root will only persist til reboot then process would need to be repeated. The only way to fix this is to be able to mod the boot IMG which requires developer mode to be enabled . this is notable by the presence of an unlocked lock on the first splash screen (secondary program loader splash)
