If the battery size between 1700 mAh and 2000 mAh, I advise you to get it.
If more than 2000, no.
+
Consider that charging period will increase as well.

A 3600 mAh battery like the Mugen one does really give you an extra day. Smaller batteries don't guarantee that.

Weight and size.
Sent from my R800x using XDA

as netizenmt mentioned, weight and size are factors to consider. a buddy of mine has the extended batteries and they're thick. if you have a leather case it'll be quite a challenge to close it...let alone use the case snaps to clamp on the sides of the phone. given that the play is slightly thicker already, the thick batts really make it bigger. just be careful if you do order the batts. i read somewhere in the forum about them being sold through ebay...only to find out that some aren't "compatible". can't remember if that meant function-wise.

Do you think the mugen will fit inside the Trident case? Perhaps without the battery cover. Or maybe modifying original battery cover along with the case?

If the case requires the PLAY's original dimensions, then no. The MUGEN battery protrudes further than the stock battery

the MUGEN battery is bigger and heavier, but you would have to really work your phone to get through it in a day, ive left my phone running castlevania sotn at 180fps for about 8+ hours with a 1.5ghz oc and i still had power to spare..
essentially the great thing about these batteries is that battery life doesnt become a concern anymore, i get about 3 days battery life with standard use, if i turned off data, god knows how much i would get.
iphone users jaws drop when i tell them i get 3 days battery, i love it.

Yeah but you carry a behemoth around with you

i dont think about the weight, in fact i usually still have trouble feeling it vibrate and i have to touch my pocket every now and then to make sure i still have it.
ive had a comment off a teenage girl before who seemed rather offended at the prospect of trading size for battery life.. but she probably also doesnt understand why i want a gamepad.. noone else, or me cares.
the part i care about is being able to use my phone, for anything, whenever i want and never having battery be a factor. its completely worry free. my ultimate device in my pocket that can always be relied upon. i quite like the feel of the gamepad with the thicker back cover, and i honestly dont think the replacement cover is anywhere near as visually offensive as many slab phone back covers which jut out in crazy places, im 100% happy with it.
you have already decided to sacrifice some form for having a gamepad, why not sacrifice a bit more form to be able to use it to its fullest extent?

Too bad it's hella delayed. It says "PRE-ORDER NOW for shipping end of this week." So that means it's pretty soon.
I'd suggest getting the 3600 mah over the 1800 because the 3600 makes typing much quicker, but it hurts in your pockets.

I believe he meant that you can type easier/quicker because the 3600 battery increases the thickness of your X1
Hmm
A battery is not an application or a theme so...
Misplaced thread?
First of all, who would trust a battery/manufacturer that cannot even spell Sony Ericsson (Erisson!) correct?
Then, what makes me wonder, what kind of a battery COVER they include! Remember, ours are brushed aluminum and people state that is used to reflect heat (heatsink).
So, one could imagine they include a Plastic Cover. How would that affect the phones heating problem...
Kindly, anybody that gets the first 3600 battery from them, let us all know if they spelled finally Ericsson correctly and what material the battery cover is (and if it fits correctly and tightly!).
Thanks

Try this: Get a bifold wallet and put it behind the battery cover of the Xperia.
Now type the same sentences on your x1 keyboard with and without the wallet.
The battery is thinner than the wallet and so typing would not be as easy than with a wallet.
I am guessing you did not see the extended battery cover because I accidentally posted a link to the home page instead of the extended battery page.
And the 1800 mah battery is the same size as the original oem 1500 mah battery except it has more capacity.

Sony Ericsson... the web site labeled the phone as a Sony Ericsson. This is correct, you're just ignorant to double check!
And the battery cover for the extended battery is metallic. I just posted the wrong link, I posted a link to homepage instead of extended battery page.

You mean the black battery right?
Anyways, it doesn't matter until we get the actual battery. But who cares about the name, I will only complain about the name if I get an oem battery that spelled their brand name wrong, otherwise if it's from a 3rd party company, then quality is the best thing to be concerned about.
Also there were prototype Nokia N86's that were labeled N86 on its shell, and these phones were N86's. Also, the 1800 mah battery spelled it correctly with the same phrasing that the 2700 mah battery has: "FOR SONY ERICSSON XPERIA". The black battery is unclear quality too.
We will see when we get the battery.
I just saw the clear version and it's indeed spelled wrong.
That's why I went the 1800 road! When I get it I will know if that's a real working battery and if it blows up, I paid much less then if it would be the 3600 battery

think i must hold the xperia differently to you, would make no difference to me how thick the phone is. i kinda hook my first fingers around the top and side of the fone so the finger makes a C shape. the whole inside of the finger is gripping the phone and my second fingers are barely touching the back. i can type very fast this way and the phone is well supported. one problem i see with the thicker battery is getting the phone to fit in the phone case i have. ive got the official sony case and its a very tight squeeze as it is. another 5mm would probably be ok but anymore than that and i doubt it would fit. its hard to see from the picture the dimensions of the 3600mah battery but im guessing since its twice the capacity its probably twice the size too.

Looks generic for sure, it also looks like not only is this made from china but it's a chinese company... the model number is a legal trick...
I think this is how it works:
It's ok to call your generic fake battery a BST-41
It's not ok to call you generic fake batter a Mugen BST-41
It's ok to call your generic fake N95 an N95
It's not ok to call your generic fake N95 a Nokia N95
And dave, I have fixed the URL link to the extended 3600 mah battery, you will see the actual battery.
Or you can go here http://picasaweb.google.com/mugenpower8/SonyEricssonXperiaX1BST41#5307678349589177746
It's thicker than it looks, because look at the Xperia, the Xperia in this picture looks thin, therefore the battery cover looks thin even though it is much thinker.
Anyways you will see the battery is black and it says Sony Erisson instead of Sony Ericsson... this still makes it a REAL MUGEN battery. No worries.

Dudess, don't think of sueing before you even have the battery or before it even explodes in your face.
So why don't we just wait until one has the battery for real in hand...!
think ill stick with the proper mugen 1800mah battery. its only a tenner more.
WELL? i want to know what happened! ...did they both get cheap explosive batteries and die or...?
Hmm... think can consider the 1800mAh one...

Extended capacity battery and cover

Has anyone been able to find a extended capacity battery and cover yet? I know I for one would be willing to put up with a thicker captivate and pay say $65 for a double capacity battery. How about you?
Thanks for voting, rumor has it this thread is going to be watched by R&D So please vote!
I vote higher capacity, but same size.
That will depend on what's possibly with current battery chemistries.
The Galaxy S has a 3500 mAh option out now. It looks pretty massive with the replacement cover though.

Holy crap that thing is huge... I think I would prefer to just carry a second normal sized battery around in the evnt that I need more juice.
Unless like others said, same form factor, higher output.. or maybe slightly thicker.. but not double the thickness.
Besides, the design of the back cover for the captivate would not facilitate a battery that size.
I'm waiting for the Seidio products.
again I wouldn't mind paying the price for an extended battery with a door that has a kick stand. Something like the HTC HD2.

I guess some guys who like fat chicks might carry that fat ass phone around. I wouldn't be seen in public with that fatty.
I'll keep my sexy sleek Captivate and carry a spare battery.
hahaha, seriously. the second battery/case in the video had me rolling when i saw how big the phone got.
I could see a metal cover with a .5 mm bump in it to accommodate a larger battery couldn't harm the captivate looks too much. IMO.

larger battery but no bulk. It's 2010 people, they should be able to make 2000mah bat without bulk.
If the bulk needs to be added then the battery cover needs to keep the device looking pretty and not like an experiment done at home.

Personally, I want something like THIS
But instead of having the battery pack be so contained, you spread out the battery cells throughout the entire backside of the phone. You could have as large a battery capacity wise, but you wouldn't add as much thickness.
That said I know very little of battery technology, so I don't know if what I want is even possible.

Kills two birds with one stone.

Seidio extended battery... IT'S COMING!

I know many of us have been anxiously waiting to see for an extended battery option from Seidio (or other reputable 3rd party), but nobody has announced one for the Captivate until now. Finally:
http://www.seidioonline.com/category-s/4411.htm
Unfortunately, no mention of price or when it will be released as it's currently "under development" but that they have added it to their store is exciting enough!
Yeah I just saw that too, and wow 3200mah is huge!
Do you think they will make a case for it? I have the body glove that was launched with the phone. I kind of like it. Has anyone purchased from these guys before? Any experiences to share. Did you buy a case? They made a huge battery for the EVO didn't they?
This means a battery about 2 times as thick as the current one, so expect a custom back with a bumpout for battery.
The Moto Droid 2800 extended battery is $69 so this one will be between $70 and $90 - I would rather have a spare battery or an external rechargeable charger for half the price. I would never make "The Captain" thicker. No pot bellies (or junk in the trunk) on my captain just a slim toned physique.
But Seido has always made a good product - usually they can take the current sized battery and squeeze a little more in - like an 1800mAh in the current size. I hope.
Has anyone actually tried to wrap their head around what this thing will look like?
Our fancy locking closure will either make this thing hideous or cause our phones to look like the back of an Incredible (which I don't mind personally, I liked the terraced back. It reminds me of the zen like nature of steppes carved into a mountain for hillside farming.)
Either way, I want one. I'm just actually trying to fathom the design, and what will happen to the sound quality being the speaker is built underneath the battery cover.
We'll see... I don't think it will be that bad, as the Evo battery only adds "5-6mm" to the phone and that is a 3500mAh battery. But given the option, I would prefer a battery in the range of 2200-2400mAh that only adds maybe 2-3mm. But beggars can't be choosers.
If they could crank out a 1800mAh "slim" battery that does not require a cover, that would be excellent as well. They have 1750mAh for the Incredible and Evo, so who knows.
I have one of their "big" 2600 mAh batteries for my old Bold 9000 and while it put hump in its back, it fit my hand great and having that extra power was fantastic. I'll get this when it comes out.
Im totally down for this hopefully they make the back tapered and not just a straight "step" up, I'm 6 foot 3 and consequently have large hands so I wouldnt even mind my phone being a lil bit thicker.

16 reviews for a company that has been selling accessories for many years (5 that i know of) is not much of a statistic.
I can tell you that, when I was a moderator for Qusers, many people bought from Seido and never had a problem. that doesn't mean there is no problem, but everyone I know that has bought from Seido was satisfied. Their products are regularly review by major blogs, and amazon shoppers give their cases 4.5/5.
I have shopped at hundreds of sites and never filled out a review for resellerratings - so I am not sure that they are the best source for any information.
From my knowledge of the company I would not hesitate to buy from them. if they put out a 2000mAh battery that is the same size as OEM, i will buy it in a second.
I would rather leave the internal battery in place and add a accessory cover with a priority battery slot. The internal battery might have to be replaced with one a mm or two shorter to allow room for the internal battery disconect. With an internal secondary and external primary, the phone could remain in operation during battery changes. Yes, this would add a hump, but I think the phone would fit my hand better...

Who proof reads these things?
"Samsung launches the Power Pack EBB-U10 for the Galaxy S i9000 in Germany. The Power Pack is an external battery that attaches to the back of the phone basicallt and offers 8.5 hours talk time and 500 hours of talk time."
So is that 508.5 hours of talk time?

Who has extended batteries and can we get pictures?

I am thinking about getting an extended battery for my Vibrant, specifically this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/3500mAh-Battery-w-Back-Cover-Samsung-Vibrant-T959-/280576737493. Now, I was wondering if I could get feedback from owners for extended batteries:
Which one did you get?
What is the quality -- how long does it last you?
Can you provide pics of how much fatter it made your phone?
Thanks!

Oh you mean back cover. I thought you meant a case, like a TPU case.
Extended battery with Clear Protector for entire phone
Use this and your battery life more than doubles. It is very comfortable, rubberized coating, and the battery rocks. The door is quite thin considering and fits comfortably in the hand. They are also going to make custom clear protectors for the entire phone and have them up for sale within 2 weeks.

The Mugen batteries. I have the 3200mAh and really like it. There are many places from which to order it, but I can personally vouch for the great customer service of http://mugenpoweronline.com/
Am i seeing the price right? $135?!

Reputable battery vs cheap knock-off manufactured with who knows what QA--if any. I avoid the dirt cheap batteries and chargers. Maybe I am just a snob tho

Yes. About 3.5 times the cost of a typical OEM 1500mAh battery but it's not like there is much competition at size. If they produced them on a scale closer to Samsung's own, they'd possibly be cheaper.
I've also seen the cheap non OEM batteries not even charge all the way up to their advertised capacity and then their efficiency is also worse than the OEM battery. I've also seen many Vibrants busted by using cheap batteries. They've overheated, exploded or caused component failures before exploding.
At least OEM batteries perform as expected for the most part. Anyone done any or seen any performance tests done on these Mugen batteries? I'd expect them to at least perform as advertised given the price. I might actually consider getting one of these even though it costs more than what I paid for the phone itself! LOL
If you don't buy direct, you can find the Mugen one online for less than $100.

Just an update with my Cheap Knockoff battery LOL. Its been running great with no leaks, no overheating or anything. its the 2800mah extended battery. Ive been getting 2+days with the battery. Thats with 3g on always, screen at brightest level and streaming slacker/pandora a couple hours a day. Please dont be scared to order one of the cheap batteries, they actually do work. Im just a cheapo that perfers grocery store brands vs the Big Name brands.

Looks like this battery will work and is on special due to a "Black Friday" sale for $88.

Can you please post some pics of your phone with new back plate on? Maybe next to a pencil or another common object for comparison?
Thank you.
I would like to see something better comparison wise than a lighter, I really want to be able to keep on 3g all day and get most of a days charge.. I have to keep off 3g, bluetooth, gps all the time to get 17+ hours out of my phone.. and heaven forbid I use google maps or something.
Don't get me wrong, my phone is awesome, I am used to having to keep things like 3g off to have enough battery, but it would be nice to be able to USE the phone without fear of it dying too early..

new battery for xperia play

I have a fat 3600 and the stock. Just a word of caution. If you buy a battery that's listed as a higher rating then then stock battery but its the same size. Be warned the battery can give you issues as they cram more juice into the same size the following things can occur. I bought a battery same size as stock and it listed it as 1800. I had excessive heat issues the batteries output to the phone was not a consistent steady flow of power and caused games and my phone to glitch to the point using the phone was almost unbearable. But when I switch to stock or to the fat 3600 battery everything was golden. So just be careful. I would never get another battery that was more power but same size. I lost $20 on that battery. Not saying I don't buy aftermarket barriers. My 3600 is not a mughen but one of those batteries for $17-20 on Amazon from Hong Kong and of works great. I also have a 2600 battery as well. Anyways again be careful of what you and for me never buy a larger capacity battery shoved into the same form factor as stock. Too many issues.

i want a better battery , i have no problems with increased size , its the no cover thing that bothers me.
I dont drop my phone a lot but if i ever did , i would like some protection .
I think that way too. I don't want my phone to be without a cover, I have a great cover now that costs a lot and I don't want to throw it...

I love my gigantic eBay battery and huge cover, but only once my original battery is pretty much dead.
I would never use the thing full time, though.. it's just way too big and unsightly.
Does anyone know if the 3600mah extended batteries will still allow the Xperia Play to fit in the DK300 Sony dock? There's a lip on the back but I think it only covers the silver side part, so it might still fit.
If anyone has both an extended battery and the dock and could clear this up for me I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

I have the 3600mah battery, it makes the phone massive. I doubt it will fit.

It looks like it might fit - it'll be close, that's why I'm asking, I'd like to hear from someone who has actually tried both, rather than just conjecture.
I already have the dock, but not the extended battery.
No, it does not look like it will fit. Go ahead and buy it, let us know!

would be excellent to take out a battery with greater capasidad and that is the same size but the manufacturer is not the idea occurred to them yet .. such as the Motorola Razr has 3300 mAh and Maxxx is so thin .. : (
Success!!

Just kidding though, it really doesn't fit. It upsets me. But I just don't use it anymore.
GO (SEX)P! You know they did that on purpose.
