[Q] Alarm question on ICS - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello all....
Those of you familiar with Beautiful Widgets will understand my question...
Previously with Gingerbread roms on my SGS, there was an actual Alarm Clock app that you can hit and it would go straight into the alarm clock.
With Beautiful widgets, you can map the "Time Tap" to open up the Alarm clock, which to me was a great feature.
Now, with ICS on this thing, I can't find a way to go into the Alarm clock directly anymore... I have to go into the Clock app, then hit 'Set Alarm' Not a big deal, but kind of redundant and annoying.
Oddly enough, if you use the stock 'Analog Clock' Widget on your home screen, it does exactly what I want when you tap it.. it goes straight to alarms.
Am I missing something? Can I not get into alarms automatically with one tap somehow the way the Analog widget can?

In beautiful widget settings, go under advanced and select there which app should be opened when you tap the time part of the widget.

I already know how to do that, that wasn't my question.

Just checked and noticed the same thing, Clock is an option, but nothing for Alarm Clock.

When I tap the clock from the widget I get sent straight to alarm clock.

I think he was referring to the stock clock widget. That is what I use to get into the alarm directly. I didn't see you mention that anywhere. Be kind, anyone who replies is only trying to help you with your question.

As for mentioning it, it clearly states that in my original post that the stock widget performs this function.

Hello Greeced,
Can you please clarify your question? I think it got a bit confusing down the line.
The stock "Analog Clock" widget takes you to the alarm menu when tapping on it.
That is the only widget ICS stock offers for the clock.
The Beautiful Widgets clock widgets also have that functionality. A tap on the clock part takes you to the alarm menu.
Are you looking for a way to get into the alarm settings without a clock widget?

Beautiful Widgets only has the functionality to select which program you want to open when you click on the time or date in the settings... but no longer has the option to select inside the "Choose Application" area to select Alarm Clocks... You can select Clock, but it only takes you to the desktop clock, a further tap below the time at that point will take you into the alarms.
So in essence, what you can do with the Analog Clock widget you can no longer do with Beautiful Widgets. (1 tap vs 2 to get into alarms.)
I hope thats clear.

Thanks for the clarification, but Beautiful Widgets behaves differently for me.
It behaves exactly like the stock analog widget. When I tap on the clock part it takes me straight to the alarms, not just to the desktop clock which would require another tap to get to the alarms.
I have nothing selected under super clock settings/clock settings/advanced/Time Application.

EDIT: That's great! Who would have known not selecting anything works!
Thanks Pal, appreciate the help. I was going bananas.
Previously on my SGS, i had to select "clock".
Thanks a million

Beautiful Widgets

I've just downloaded this and have no idea how to get it to work, it says to long press on home screen and select widgets, but it doesn't have that option. Not supported for ICS??

Obviously not tried this with beautiful widgets. Their widgets do not show up in app draw. Only way to get them to work is 'long-pressing' home screen, which we know doesn't give a widget option in ICS.
As far as I'm aware, you would need a custom launcher which has long-press home screen for widgets option. Not worth it imo. I uninstalled my BeautifulWidgets App within 10 minutes of paying 10p for it yesterday, not wasting that kind of money!

4. press and hold the widget of your choice for it
5. place on the screen of your choice you want it to be on

What are you talking about? You use beautiful widgets just like any other widget. Did you happen to look at all the widgets that started with the word beautiful in the app drawer? I'm using it now and its super easy

You sometimes have to reboot for widgets to appear in the app drawer... You guys really take this stuff personally LMFAO
Thanks for calling tech support, have you tried turning it off and on again?
Lol, about half the widgets I've downloaded required a reboot to show up in the app drawer...when something doesn't work right, reboot.
A question, when I go in my widget setting to try and change it as I want to change something, I go into settings -> general and it force closes on me, I'm trying to get the black squares to disappear for the Ice Cream Sandwich Super Clock skin by a person named Tama-Chan.
If you can't do it using the app, is there any way to edit a current skin? I just want to remove the black squares and change the font to Roboto to match the ICS font? Any guidance would be much appreciated!

There was an update this morning that mentioned ics compatibility so maybe you can now edit preferences for a widget properly or you could try this:
I did it by removing and re-adding the widget. When you re-add it you get a dialogue asking you what settings you want to use which works.

[Q]Calendar widget?

I just got ADW launcher and I need a calendar widget to replace the stock one.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
I'd like one similar to the stock month calendar widget. One that shows the whole month, some kind of bullet or marker on days that have an event, and some kind of text box showing the event for the day you touch.
Thanks.

I second that question/request. I wonder if theres a way to use the stock one with other launchers, it seems to be the only stock widget thats missing if i remember correctly.

Actually there's a couple more I need to find replacements for too.
The task manager widget that displays the number of active apps and takes you to the task manager if pressed.
And the double clock widget that will let you display two different clocks, with time zone and location of your choosing displayed.

Thanks! I'm trying it out right now. There's still a few things from the stock one I miss though. It doesn't have a widget with a text box on the bottom that can show the whole event. Instead it shows small text in the day box that gets cut off, and you have to click on that day to see the whole event title. The tasks seem to be a little limited too. Like you can't add a location that you can navigate to later. I'm gonna keep playing with it though. Thanks.

yeah I saw Go launcher yesterday during my search and told myself I gotta try that one. Looks like a lot of good stuff on that one. I especially like that task manager widget that they have.
Thanks for the recommendation AllGamer! I'm using Go Launcher now and loving it.
lilant510, if you're still missing stuff from the stock, I suggest you try that one. Has everything I was missing from stock and more. Better than ADW IMO.
AllGamer,
Do you use the Go launcher toggle widget? Does it work ok for you?
When I press the GPS toggle, it goes to the GPS settings menu, instead of just automatically toggling it off/on.
The 4g toggle sometimes does and sometimes doesn't work also. Seems to depend on if the wifi is toggled on with it or not.
Wondering if anyone else is having the same problem.
i do not use the Go Toggle
because the ROM already has all the on/off switches i need build in

[Q] Which apk is the stock TW alarm clock?

I used to be able to access it through my Beautiful Widgets, but now nothing happens when I press the time. I believe it's due to me not having the stock alarm clock installed. Does anyone know what the name of it is? I'm wanting to say it may be integrated into the TWcalendar apk, but I could be wrong.

Accessing Alarm Clock via clock widget in JellyBean???

Hi,
I recently flashed my phone to the stock FK23 JB rom, and I'm liking all of the added features after coming from GB. However, the one thing I do not like and can't seem to figure out is this: On GB, I had the digital clock widget on my home screen that when tapped, would open the alarm/timer/stopwatch utility.
Why doesn't this behavior work in JB???? Sure, if I put a shortcut to the Clock app on one of the home screens, I can click that to get to the alarm. But why can't I use the digital (or analog for that matter) widget as a shortcut to the alarms anymore???? I don't want a shortcut to the clock or alarm on my home screen, and I don't want to have to make more than one tap or gesture to access the alarm. I want a one-tap solution to access the alarms, as I set and reset multiple alarms throughout the day.
Can someone tell me if there is something I'm missing here? Why was this feature removed, or how can I restore it? I liked having the digital clock widget act as a shortcut to the alarms. And honestly without this functionality, the digital clock is pointless because the time is already in the status bar.
Someone please enlighten me! Thank you!

I assume you mean in the notification pane? When I pull down the notification pane and tap the clock in the upper left, it takes me to a 'World Clock' popup - not the alarm.
And for the record, tapping the clock in the status bar does nothing.
Any other ideas? Why was this feature removed???
There should be a widget called "Alarm" or "simple alarm clock" widget.
When world clock pops up touch it again it opens the entire clock with alarm and everything

Or get the Go Weather app and add the 4x2 widget, tap the clock and you get access to alarm, world clock, stop watch and timer.
Thanks for the replies, guys. But I was really wanting to have a 1-tap access directly to the alarm clock, without using a 3rd party app.
For the notification clock tap idea, that takes (1) a swipe to bring down the notification pane (2) a tap on the clock (3) a tap on the world clock popup (4) a tap on the Alarm tab -- way too many taps.
If I had to use a 3rd party app, I'd probably go with something with the HTC Sense design, but I have yet to find one that will take me to the Alarm. I still don't understand why the native clock widgets in Jellybean do not link to the clock app.

How to get weather on the "At A Glance" widget ?

I've been running Nova since I got my Pixel 2 XL earlier this month, but just for fun wanted to try out the stock default Pixel launcher. I like the default launcher for now, may or may not stick with it ( been using Nova on every phone for years now )
But when using the stock launcher, I noticed the 'At A Glance' widget is just showing me Day and Date, and not the weather next to it. I tried to remove that widget and use my good old Chronus widget looks 99.99% exactly the same but is more customization and I can have it with the weather to the right looking just like the Google one., but it looks stupid if I can't remove the stock one.
Any help would be appreciated thx

Let me try that. I only use Location when running Maps, never else. It's silly the weather app doesn't let us manually enter on our prefered location.
Ok I turned Location / GPS on in the drop down notification shade, still no weather on the widget.
Wish I could just remove the default widget and put my Chronus widget there instead. But that's what Nova is for I guess.
I followed this guys guide, and it still isn't working;
Swipe from home screen to your cards.
Tap on the three vertical dots in the top right hand corner (I'm original pixel on 8.1 mind, you're on the newer pixel 8.0).
Select "customize feed".
Scroll down to "Weather", select "view all settings". Ensure "weather updates" and "weather updates for your location" are both on. It might take a while if these were off for the widget to appear.
After that (if it's still not working) you can go to the weather card itself (search weather after swiping to your cards and enter the weather card). Tap the three horizontal lines in the top left corner.
Select "settings".
Select "Your feed"
Under "Get notified about", two things to enter and turn on:
"Weather alerts for substantial changes"
And
"Current Weather condition"
I did all of that, and still no weather on the At A Glance widget on the home screen.
